7 And when it was told Jotham, he went and stood in the top of mount Gerizim, and lift up his voice and called, and said unto them, "Hearken unto me you citizens of Shechem, that God may hearken unto you. 8 The trees went to anoint a king over them, and said unto the olive tree, 'Reign over us.' 9 But the olive tree said unto them, 'Should I leave my fatness which both God and man praiseth in me, and go to be promoted over the trees?' 10 Then said the trees to the fig tree, 'Come thou and be king over us.' 11 And the fig tree answered them, 'Should I forsake my sweetness and my good fruit, and should go to be promoted over the trees?' 12 Then said the trees unto the vine, 'Come thou and be king over us.' 13 And the vine answered, 'Should I leave my wine that cheereth both God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?' 14 Then said all the trees unto the furze-bush, 'Come thou and reign over us.' 15 And the furze bush said unto the trees, "If it will be true that ye will anoint me king over you, then come and rest under my shadow, and ye shall see that a fire shall come out of the furze-bush and waste the cypress trees of Lebanon!' 16 And even so, now: if ye have done truly and uncorruptly to make Abimelech king, and if ye have dealt well with Jerubbaal and his house, and have done unto him according to the deserving of his hands, 17 — forasmuch as my father fought for you and adventured his life, and rid you out of the hands of the Midianites - 18 and ye are risen up against my father's house this day. And have slain his children, even seventy persons upon one stone and have made Abimelech — the son of his maidservant — king over the citizens of Shechem, because he is your brother. 19 If, then, ye have dealt purely and truly with Jerubbaal and with his house this day: then rejoice ye in Abimelech, and let him also rejoice in you. 20 But, if ye have not dealt truly, then I pray God a fire may come out of Abimelech and consume the citizens of Shechem and the house of Mello. And that there come a fire out of the citizens of Shechem, and out of the house of Mello and consume Abimelech."

And he came unto him and said unto him, "There were two men in one city, a rich and a poor. 2 And the rich had exceeding great abundance of sheep and oxen. 3 But the poor had nothing, save one little lamb which he bought and nourished up. And it grew up with him and his children, and did eat of his own meat and drank of his own cup, and slept in his bosom, and was as dear unto him as his daughter. 4 And there came a stranger unto the rich man. And he could not find in his heart to take of his own sheep nor of his beasts to dress for the stranger that was come unto him. But took the poor man's lamb and dressed it for the man that was come to him." 5 And David was exceeding wroth with the man, and said to Nathan, "As surely as the LORD liveth, the fellow that hath done this thing is the child of death 6 and shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing and because he had no pity." 7 Then Nathan said to David, "Thou art the man. Thus sayeth the LORD God of Israel, 'I anointed thee king over Israel and rid thee out of the hands of Saul.

Mark 12:1-12

1 And he began to speak unto them in similitudes. "A certain man planted a vineyard, and compassed it with a hedge, and ordained a winepress, and built a tower in it, and let it out to hire unto husbandmen, and went into a strange country. 2 And when the time was come, he sent to the tenants a servant that he might receive of the tenants of the fruit of the vineyard. 3 And they caught him and beat him and sent him again empty. 4 And moreover he sent unto them another servant, and at him they cast stones and brake his head, and sent him again all too reviled. 5 And again he sent another, and him they killed: and many others, beating some, and killing some. 6 "Yet had he one son whom he loved tenderly, him also sent he at the last unto them, saying, 'They will fear my son.' 7 But the tenants said amongst themselves, 'This is the heir: come, let us kill him and the inheritance shall be ours.' 8 And they took him and killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard. 9 What shall then the Lord of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the tenants, and let out the vineyard to others. 10 Have ye not read this scripture? 'The stone which the builders did refuse, is made the chief stone in the corner: 11 This was done of the Lord, and is marvelous in our eyes.'" 12 And they went about to take him, but they feared the people. For they perceived that he spake that similitude against them. And they left him and went their way.
