⁴⁰ When He came to the place, He told them, “Pray that you will not enter into temptation.”

¹⁰ And Jabez called out to the God of Israel, “If only You would bless me and enlarge my territory! May Your hand be with me and keep me from harm, so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted the request of Jabez.

⁵ My steps have held to Your paths; my feet have not slipped.

¹³ Keep Your servant also from willful sins; may they not rule over me. Then I will be blameless and cleansed of great transgression.

¹¹⁶ Sustain me as You promised, that I may live; let me not be ashamed of my hope. ¹¹⁷ Uphold me, and I will be saved, that I may always regard Your statutes.

¹³³ Order my steps in Your word; let no sin rule over me.

⁸ Keep falsehood and deceitful words far from me. Give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the bread that is my portion. ⁹ Otherwise, I may have too much and deny You, saying, ‘Who is the LORD?’ Or I may become poor and steal, profaning the name of my God.

¹³ And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.’

³⁶ At that time Jesus went with His disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and He told them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” ³⁷ He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee and began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed. ³⁸ Then Jesus said to them, “My soul is consumed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with Me.” ³⁹ Going a little farther, He fell facedown and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me. Yet not as I will, but as You will.” ⁴⁰ Then Jesus returned to the disciples and found them sleeping. “Were you not able to keep watch with Me for one hour?” He asked Peter. ⁴¹ “Watch and pray so that you will not enter into temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak.” ⁴² A second time He went away and prayed, “My Father, if this cup cannot pass from Me unless I drink it, may Your will be done.” ⁴³ And again Jesus returned and found them sleeping—for their eyes were heavy. ⁴⁴ So He left them and went away once more and prayed a third time, saying the same thing. ⁴⁵ Then He returned to His disciples and said, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour is near, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. ⁴⁶ Rise, let us go! See, My betrayer is approaching!”

Yet not what I will, but what You will.” ³⁷ Then Jesus returned and found them sleeping. “Simon, are you asleep?” He asked. “Were you not able to keep watch for one hour? ³⁸ Watch and pray so that you will not enter into temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak.” ³⁹ Again He went away and prayed, saying the same thing. ⁴⁰ And again Jesus returned and found them sleeping—for their eyes were heavy. And they did not know what to answer Him. ⁴¹ When Jesus returned the third time, He said, “Are you still sleeping and resting? That is enough! The hour has come. Look, the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. ⁴² Rise, let us go. See, My betrayer is approaching!”

⁴ And forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’”

⁴⁶ “Why are you sleeping?” He asked. “Get up and pray so that you will not enter into temptation.”

⁷ or because of these surpassingly great revelations. So to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. ⁸ Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. ⁹ But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest on me. ¹⁰ That is why, for the sake of Christ, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

¹⁸ Pray in the Spirit at all times, with every kind of prayer and petition. To this end, stay alert with all perseverance in your prayers for all the saints. ¹⁹ Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will boldly make known the mystery of the gospel,

⁷ The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear-minded and sober, so that you can pray.

⁸ Be sober-minded and alert. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. ⁹ Resist him, standing firm in your faith and in the knowledge that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kinds of suffering.

¹⁰ Because you have kept My command to persevere, I will also keep you from the hour of testing that is about to come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth.
