³ Bear with me while I speak; then, after I have spoken, you may go on mocking.

⁴ I am a laughingstock to my friends, though I called on God, and He answered. The righteous and upright man is a laughingstock. ⁵ The one at ease scorns misfortune as the fate of those whose feet are slipping.

⁹ Would it be well when He examined you? Could you deceive Him like a man?

¹³ Be silent, and I will speak. Then let come to me what may.

¹⁰ They open their mouths against me and strike my cheeks with contempt; they join together against me.

²⁰ My friends are my scoffers as my eyes pour out tears to God.

² Surely mockers surround me, and my eyes must gaze at their rebellion.

³¹ Pay attention, Job, and listen to me; be silent, and I will speak. ³² But if you have something to say, answer me; speak up, for I would like to vindicate you. ³³ But if not, then listen to me; be quiet, and I will teach you wisdom.”
