² “So my anxious thoughts compel me to answer, because of the turmoil within me.

² “If one ventures a word with you, will you be wearied? Yet who can keep from speaking?

¹⁹ Can anyone indict me? If so, I will be silent and die.

³ I have heard a rebuke that insults me, and my understanding prompts a reply.

¹³ So do not claim, ‘We have found wisdom; let God, not man, refute him.’ ¹⁴ But Job has not directed his words against me, and I will not answer him with your arguments. ¹⁵ Job’s friends are dismayed, with no more to say; words have escaped them. ¹⁶ Must I wait, now that they are silent, now that they stand and no longer reply? ¹⁷ I too will answer; yes, I will declare what I know. ¹⁸ For I am full of words, and my spirit within me compels me. ¹⁹ Behold, my belly is like unvented wine; it is about to burst like a new wineskin. ²⁰ I must speak and find relief; I must open my lips and respond.

²² In my alarm I said, “I am cut off from Your sight!” But You heard my plea for mercy when I called to You for help.

² I was speechless and still; I remained silent, even from speaking good, and my sorrow was stirred. ³ My heart grew hot within me; as I mused, the fire burned. Then I spoke with my tongue:

¹¹ In my alarm I said, “All men are liars!”

²⁹ A patient man has great understanding, but a quick-tempered man promotes folly.

²⁰ Do you see a man who speaks in haste? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

⁹ Do not be quickly provoked in your spirit, for anger settles in the lap of a fool.

⁹ If I say, “I will not mention Him or speak any more in His name,” His message becomes a fire burning in my heart, shut up in my bones, and I become weary of holding it in, and I cannot prevail.

²⁵ At once the girl hurried back to the king with her request: “I want you to give me the head of John the Baptist on a platter immediately.”
