²⁷ "But the man who was ill-treating his neighbor thrust him aside, saying, "'Who made you a magistrate and ruler over us?

²³ When he had entered the Temple courts, and was teaching, the high priests and elders of the people came to him and asked him, "By what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority?"

¹⁴ "Man," said he, "who made me a judge or arbitrator over you?"

³⁶ Jesus answered him. "My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants have fought hard that I should not be handed the Jews; but in reality my kingdom is not of such origins." ³⁷ "You are a king, then? You!" said Pilate. "You say truly that I am a king." answered Jesus, "for this purpose I was born, and to this end came I into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Every man who is of the truth listens to my voice."

¹² After that Pilate began to seek to release him, but the Jews shouted out. "If you release this man you are no friend of the Emperor. Any man who makes himself out to be king is a rebel against the Emperor." ¹³ On hearing what they said, Pilate brought Jesus out and made him sit on the judge's seat in a place called the Mosaic Pavement (the Hebrew name is Gabbatha). ¹⁴ And it was the day of Preparation for the Passover, about six o'clock in the morning. Then he said to the Jews, "Behold your King!" ¹⁵ Then they shouted. "Away with him! Away with him! Crucify him!" "Crucify your King?" said Pilate. The chief priests answered, "We have no king but Caesar!"

¹³ "The God of Abram, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his Servant Jesus, whom you betrayed and disowned before Pilate, when he had decided to let him go; ¹⁴ "but you disowned the holy and righteous One, and asked as a favor the release of a murderer. ¹⁵ "The Pioneer of Life you put to death. But God has raised him from the dead, and we are witnesses of that fact.

⁷ Then they made the men stand before them and demanded, "By what power, or in what name, have you fellows done this?"

¹¹ "For he is the Stone, cast aside by you builders, which has become the head stone of the corner. ¹² "There is no salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men, in which we must be saved."

³³ When they heard this they were infuriated, and were minded to kill the apostles;

³⁵ "This Moses whom they refused when they said, Who made you to be a ruler and a judge? that same Moses we find God sending as a ruler and a redeemer by the hand in the bush.

³⁹ "To him our ancestors would not be obedient, but thrust him aside, and in their hearts turned back into Egypt.

⁵⁴ As they heard these words they became furious and gnashed their teeth at him.
