Call me Mara, for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me. ²¹ I went out full and Jehovah has brought me home again empty. Why do you* call me Naomi, seeing Jehovah has testified against me and the Almighty has afflicted me?

³⁰ My skin is black, and falls from me. And my bones are burned with heat.

⁸ I have become a stranger to my brothers and an alien to my mother's sons.

¹¹ Solomon had a vineyard at Baal-hamon. He let out the vineyard to keepers. Every one for the fruit of it was to bring a thousand pieces of silver. ¹² My vineyard, which is mine, is before me. You, O Solomon, will have the thousand and those who keep the fruit of it, two hundred.

²¹ For the hurt of the daughter of my people I am hurt. I mourn. Dismay has taken hold on me.

⁶ For even your brothers and the house of your father, even they have dealt treacherously with you, even they have cried aloud after you. Believe them not, though they speak fair words to you.

⁸ Their visage is blacker than a coal. They are not known in the streets. Their skin clings to their bones. It is withered. It has become like a stick.

⁶ For the son dishonors the father. The daughter rises up against her mother, the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. A man's enemies are the men of his own house.

²² And you will be hated by all men because of my name. But he who has endured to the end, this one will be saved.

²⁵ It is enough for the disciple that he should become like his teacher and the bondservant like his lord. If they have called the householder Beelzebub, how much more the kinfolk!

³⁵ For I came to pit man against his father and the daughter against her mother and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; ³⁶ and, ‘A man’s enemies will be his own kinfolk.’

⁶ now when the sun rose, it was burnt, and it dried up because it had no root.

⁵¹ You are thinking that I have come to give peace in the earth? I tell you, No, but rather division. ⁵² For there will be from hereafter five in one house having been divided, three against two, and two against three. ⁵³ Father will be divided against son, and son against father; mother against daughter, and daughter against her mother; mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law, and daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.

²² further strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to remain in the faith, and that it is essential for us through many afflictions to enter into the kingdom of God.

²⁹ But just-like then, he who was born according to the flesh was persecuting the one who was born according to the Spirit, so it is also now.
