¹³ He who rewards evil for good, evil will not depart from his house.

¹⁷ And he said to David, You are more righteous than I, for you have rendered to me good, and I have rendered to you evil.

² And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons and the Philistines killed Jonathan and Abinadab and Malchi shua, the sons of Saul. ³ And the battle went severely against Saul and the archers overtook him and he was greatly distressed because of the archers.

¹⁰ Now therefore the sword will not depart (everlasting and forever) from your house, because you have despised me and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.

¹ And there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David sought the face of Jehovah. And Jehovah said, It is for Saul and for his bloody house, because he put to death the Gibeonites.
² And the king called the Gibeonites and spoke to them (now the Gibeonites were not of the sons of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorites and the sons of Israel had sworn to them and yet Saul sought to kill them in his zeal for the sons of Israel and Judah), ³ and David said to the Gibeonites, What shall I do for you*? And with what shall I make atonement that you* may bless the inheritance of Jehovah?
⁴ And the Gibeonites said to him, It is no matter of silver or gold between us and Saul or his house, neither is it for us to put any man to death in Israel. And he said, Whatever you* will say, that I will do for you*. ⁵ And they said to the king, The man who consumed us and who devised against us, that we should be destroyed from remaining in any of the borders of Israel, ⁶ let seven men of his sons be delivered to us and we will hang them up to Jehovah in Gibeah of Saul, the chosen of Jehovah. And the king said, I will give them.
⁷ But the king spared Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan the son of Saul, because of Jehovah's oath that was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul. ⁸ But the king took Armoni and Mephibosheth, the two sons of Rizpah the daughter of Aiah whom she bore to Saul, and the five sons of Merab the daughter of Saul whom she bore to Adriel the son of Barzillai the Meholathite.
⁹ And he delivered them into the hands of the Gibeonites. And they hanged them in the mountain before Jehovah and they fell all seven together. And they were put to death in the days of harvest, in the first days, at the beginning of barley harvest.
¹⁰ And Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took sackcloth and spread it for her upon the rock, from the beginning of harvest until water was poured upon them from heaven. And she neither allowed the birds of the heaven to rest on them by day, nor the beasts of the field by night. ¹¹ And it was told David what Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, the concubine of Saul, had done.
¹² And David went and took the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son from the men of Jabesh-gilead, who had stolen them from the street of Beth-shan where the Philistines had hanged them in the day that the Philistines killed Saul in Gilboa, ¹³ and he brought up from there the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son and they gathered the bones of those who were hanged.
¹⁴ And they buried the bones of Saul and Jonathan his son in the country of Benjamin in Zela, in the sepulcher of Kish his father. And they performed all that the king commanded. And after that God was entreated for the land.

¹² They reward me evil for good, bereaving my soul.

²⁰ They who also render evil for good are adversaries to me, because I follow the good thing.

¹² Because it was not an enemy who reproached me. Then I could have borne it. Neither was it he who hated me that magnified himself against me. Then I would have hid myself from him.
¹³ But it was you, a man my equal, my companion and my familiar friend. ¹⁴ We took sweet counsel together. We walked in the house of God with the crowd.
¹⁵ Let death come suddenly upon them. Let them go down alive into Sheol. Because wickedness is in their dwelling, in the midst of them.

⁴ They are my adversaries instead of my love, but I make prayer. ⁵ And they have rewarded me evil for good and hatred for my love.
⁶ Set a wicked man over him and let an adversary stand at his right hand. ⁷ When he is judged, let him come out guilty and let his prayer be turned into sin. ⁸ Let his days be few and let another take his office.
⁹ Let his sons be fatherless and his wife a widow. ¹⁰ Let his sons be vagabonds and beg and let them seek out of their desolate places. ¹¹ Let a creditor exact all that he has and let strangers make spoil of his labor.
¹² Let there be none to prolong kindness to him, nor let there be any to have pity on his fatherless sons. ¹³ Let his posterity be cut off. Let their name be blotted out in the following generation.

²⁰ Shall evil be recompensed for good? For they have dug a pit for my soul. Remember how I stood before you to speak good for them, to turn away your wrath from them.
²¹ Therefore deliver up their sons to the famine and give them over to the power of the sword and let their wives become childless and widows and let their men be slain of death and their young men struck of the sword in battle.

⁵ And tossing the pieces of silver in the temple, he departed. And having gone away, he hanged himself.

²⁵ And all the people answered and said, His blood is upon us and upon our children.

¹⁷ Repay to no one evil in exchange-for evil. Plan-for good things in the sight of all men.

¹⁵ See that not anyone repays evil in exchange-for evil to anyone, but always pursue the good, both toward one another and toward all.

⁹ not repaying evil in exchange-for evil or reviling in exchange-for reviling, but instead, speaking well of others; knowing that you were called for this, in order that you should inherit a blessing.
