¹¹ Judah has dealt treacherously and an abomination is committed in Israel and in Jerusalem. For Judah has profaned the holiness of Jehovah which he loves and has married the daughter of a foreign god.

¹ And it happened, when men began to multiply on the face of the ground and daughters were born to them, ² that the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair. And they took to them wives of all that they chose.

⁵ Now therefore, if you* will obey my voice indeed and keep my covenant, then you* will be my own possession from among all peoples, for all the earth is mine, ⁶ and you* will be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. These are the words which you will speak to the sons of Israel.

²⁴ Do not defile you* yourselves in any of these things. For in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out from before you*, ²⁵ and the land is defiled. Therefore I visit the iniquity of it upon it and the land vomits out its inhabitants.
²⁶ You* therefore will keep my statutes and my ordinances and will not do any of these abominations, neither the home-born, nor the stranger that travels among you*, ²⁷ (for all these abominations the men of the land have done, who were before you* and the land is defiled), ²⁸ that the land not vomit you* out also, when you* defile it, as it vomited out the nation that was before you*. ²⁹ For whoever will do any of these abominations, even the souls that do them will be cut off from among their people. ³⁰ Therefore you* will keep my charge, that you* not practice any of these abominable customs, which were practiced before you* and that you* not defile yourselves in it. I am Jehovah your* God.

²⁶ And you* will be holy to me, for I, Jehovah, am holy and have set you* apart from the peoples, that you* should be mine.

³ Neither will you make marriages with them. Your daughter you will not give to his son, nor his daughter will you take to your son. ⁴ For he will turn away your son from following me, that they may serve other gods, so the anger of Jehovah will be kindled against you* and he will destroy you quickly.
⁵ But thus will you* deal with them: You* will break down their altars and dash in pieces their pillars and hew down their Asherim and burn their graven images with fire.
⁶ For you are a holy people to Jehovah your God. Jehovah your God has chosen you to be a people for his own possession, above all peoples that are upon the face of the earth.

²⁶ There is none like God, O Jeshurun, who rides upon the heavens for your help and in his excellency on the skies. ²⁷ The God of long-ago is your dwelling-place and underneath are the everlasting arms. And he thrust out the enemy from before you and said, Destroy. ²⁸ And Israel dwells in safety, the fountain of Jacob alone, in a land of grain and new wine. Yes, his heavens drop down dew. ²⁹ You are fortunate, O Israel. Who is like you, a people saved by Jehovah, the shield of your help and the sword of your excellency! And your enemies will submit themselves to you and you will tread upon their high places.

⁶ And they took their daughters to be their wives and gave their own daughters to their sons and served their gods.

¹ Now king Solomon loved many foreign women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians and Hittites, ² of the nations concerning which Jehovah said to the sons of Israel, You* will not go among them, neither will they come among you*, for surely they will turn away your* heart after their gods. Solomon clung to these in love.
³ And he had seven hundred wives, princesses and three hundred concubines. And his wives turned away his heart.
⁴ For it happened, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods. And his heart was not perfect with Jehovah his God as was the heart of David his father. ⁵ For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites.
⁶ And Solomon did what was evil in the sight of Jehovah and went not fully after Jehovah as did David his father. ⁷ Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the abomination of Moab on the mountain that is before Jerusalem and for Molech the abomination of the sons of Ammon. ⁸ And so he did for all his foreign wives, who burnt incense and sacrificed to their gods.

¹ Now when these things were done, the rulers drew near to me, saying, The people of Israel and the priests and the Levites, have not separated themselves from the peoples of the lands, doing according to their abominations, even of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians and the Amorites. ² For they have taken of their daughters for themselves and for their sons, so that the holy seed have mingled themselves with the peoples of the lands. Yes, the hand of the heads and rulers has been chief in this trespass.

¹² Now therefore do not give your* daughters to their sons, neither take their daughters to your* sons, nor seek their peace or their prosperity forever, that you* may be strong and eat the good of the land and leave it for an inheritance to your* sons until everlasting.

² And Shecaniah the son of Jehiel, one of the sons of Elam, answered and said to Ezra, We have trespassed against our God and have married foreign women of the peoples of the land. Yet now there is hope for Israel concerning this thing.

²³ In those days also I saw the Jews who had married women of Ashdod, of Ammon, and of Moab. ²⁴ And their sons spoke half in the speech of Ashdod and could not speak in the Jews' language, but according to the language of each people. ²⁵ And I contended with them and cursed them and killed* certain of them and plucked off their hair and made them swear by God, saying, You* will not give your* daughters to their sons, nor take their daughters for your* sons, or for yourselves.
²⁶ Did not Solomon King of Israel sin by these things? Yet there was no king like him among many nations and he was beloved of his God and God made him king over all Israel. Nevertheless foreign women caused even him to sin. ²⁷ Shall we then listen to you* to do all this great evil, to trespass against our God in marrying foreign women? ²⁸ And one of the sons of Joiada, the son of Eliashib the high priest, was son-in-law to Sanballat the Horonite. Therefore I chased him from me.
²⁹ Remember them, O my God, because they have defiled the priesthood and the covenant of the priesthood and of the Levites.

²⁸ They also joined themselves to Baal of Peor and ate the sacrifices of the dead.

³⁴ They did not destroy the peoples, as Jehovah commanded them, ³⁵ but mingled themselves with the nations and learned their works, ³⁶ and served their idols, which became a snare to them.
³⁷ Yes, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons, ³⁸ and shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan. And the land was polluted with blood.
³⁹ Thus they were defiled with their works and played the prostitute in their practices.

³ Israel was holiness to Jehovah, the first-fruits of his increase. All who devour him will be held guilty. Evil will come upon them, says Jehovah.

⁷ And I brought you* into a plentiful land, to eat the fruit of it and the goodness of it.
But when you* entered, you* defiled my land and made my heritage an abomination. ⁸ The priests did not say, Where is Jehovah? And those who handle the law did not know me. The rulers also transgressed against me. And the prophets prophesied by Baal and walked after things that do not profit.

²¹ Yet I had planted you a noble vine, entirely a right seed. How then have you turned into the degenerate branches of a foreign vine to me?
²² For though you wash with lye and take much soap, yet your iniquity is marked before me, says the lord Jehovah.

⁷ And I said after she had done all these things, She will return to me, but she returned not. And her treacherous sister Judah saw it.
⁸ And I saw, when, for this very cause that backsliding Israel had committed adultery, I had put her away and given her a document of divorcement, yet treacherous Judah her sister did not fear, but she also went and played the prostitute.
⁹ And it happened through the lightness of her prostitution, that the land was polluted and she committed adultery with stones and with stocks.

¹⁰ and then come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name and say, We are delivered, that you* may do all these abominations?

¹³ has given forth upon interest and has taken increase, will he then live? He will not live. He has done all these abominations. He will surely die. His blood will be upon him.

¹¹ And one has committed abomination with his neighbor's wife and another has lewdly defiled his daughter-in-law and another in you has humbled his sister, his father's daughter.

⁷ But like Adam they have transgressed the covenant. There they have dealt treacherously against me.

¹⁴ Do not become unequally yoked with unbelieving ones; for what partnership has righteousness and lawlessness? And what fellowship has light with darkness? ¹⁵ And what agreement has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with unbelieving ones? ¹⁶ And what alliance has a temple of God with idols? For you are a temple of the living God; just-as God said, ‘I will be dwelling among them and will be walking among them, and I will be their God and they will be a people to me.’ ¹⁷ Hence ‘Come out from the midst of them and be separate,’says the Lord, ‘And touch no unclean thing, and I will accept you\super\'b0 ¹⁸ and will be a Father to you and you will be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.’

⁸ But to the cowardly and unbelieving and sinners and detestable and murderers and fornicators and sorcerers and idolaters and to all the false witnesses, their part will be in the lake which is burning with fire and brimstone; which is the second death.
