1 And it happened after the death of Joshua, that the sons of Israel asked of Jehovah, saying, Who will go up for us first against the Canaanites, to fight against them?

Exodus 28:30

4 And they were left, to prove Israel by them, to know whether they would listen to the commandments of Jehovah, which he commanded their fathers by Moses. 5 And the sons of Israel dwelt among the Canaanites, the Hittites and the Amorites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites. 6 And they took their daughters to be their wives and gave their own daughters to their sons and served their gods.

Judges 20:18

18 And the sons of Israel arose and went up to Bethel and asked counsel of God. And they said, Who will go up for us first to battle against the sons of Benjamin? And Jehovah said, Judah first.

Judges 20:28
