¹ In those days there was no king in Israel. And in those days the tribe of the Danites sought for them an inheritance to dwell in, for to that day their inheritance had not fallen to them among the tribes of Israel.
² And the sons of Dan sent of their family five men from their whole number, men of valor, from Zorah and from Eshtaol, to spy out the land and to search it. And they said to them, Go, search the land. And they came to the hill-country of Ephraim to the house of Micah and lodged there.
³ When they were by the house of Micah, they recognized the voice of the young man the Levite. And they turned aside there and said to him, Who brought you here? And what are you doing in this place? And what have you here? ⁴ And he said to them, Thus and thus has Micah dealt with me and he has hired me and I have become his priest.
⁵ And they said to him, Please ask counsel from God, that we may know whether our way which we go will be prosperous. ⁶ And the priest said to them, Go in peace. Your* way is before Jehovah in which you* go.
⁷ Then the five men departed and came to Laish and saw the people that were in it, how they dwelt in security, according to the manner of the Sidonians, quiet and secure, for there was none in the land possessing authority, that might put them to shame in anything. And they were far from the Sidonians and had no dealings with any man.
⁸ And they came to their brothers to Zorah and Eshtaol. And their brothers said to them, What do you* say? ⁹ And they said, Arise and let us go up against them, for we have seen the land, and behold, it is very good and are you* idle? Do not be slothful to go and to enter in to possess the land. ¹⁰ When you* go, you* will come to a people secure. And the land is large, for God has given it into your* hand, a place where there is no want of anything that is on the earth.
¹¹ And there set forth from there of the family of the Danites, out of Zorah and out of Eshtaol, six hundred men girded with weapons of war. ¹² And they went up and encamped in Kiriath-jearim, in Judah. Therefore they called that place Mahaneh-dan, to this day. Behold, it is behind Kiriath-jearim. ¹³ And they passed from there to the hill-country of Ephraim and came to the house of Micah.
¹⁴ Then the five men who went to spy out the country of Laish, answered and said to their brothers, Do you* know that there is in these houses an ephod and household-idol and a graven image and a molten image? Now therefore consider what you* have to do. ¹⁵ And they turned aside there and came to the house of the young man the Levite, even to the house of Micah and asked him of his welfare. ¹⁶ And the six hundred men girded with their weapons of war, who were of the sons of Dan, stood by the entrance of the gate.
¹⁷ And the five men who went to spy out the land went up and came in there and took the graven image and the ephod and the household-idol and the molten image. And the priest stood by the entrance of the gate with the six hundred men girded with weapons of war. ¹⁸ And when these went into Micah's house and fetched the graven image, the ephod and the household-idol and the molten image, the priest said to them, What do you* say?
¹⁹ And they said to him, Hold your peace, lay your hand upon your mouth and go with us and be to us a father and a priest. Is it better for you to be priest to the house of one man, or to be priest to a tribe and a family in Israel? ²⁰ And the priest's heart was glad and he took the ephod and the household-idol and the graven image and went in the midst of the people.
²¹ So they turned and departed and put the little ones and the cattle and the goods before them. ²² When they were a good way from the house of Micah, the men who were in the houses near to Micah's house were gathered together and overtook the sons of Dan.
²³ And they cried out to the sons of Dan. And they turned their faces and said to Micah, What troubles you that you come with such a company? ²⁴ And he said, you* have taken away my gods which I made and the priest and have gone away and what have I more? And how do you* then say to me, What troubles you?
²⁵ And the sons of Dan said to him, Do not let your voice be heard among us, lest angry fellows fall upon you* and you lose your life, with the lives of your household. ²⁶ And the sons of Dan went their way. And when Micah saw that they were too strong for him, he turned and went back to his house.
²⁷ And they took what Micah had made and the priest whom he had and came to Laish, to a people quiet and secure and killed* them with the edge of the sword and they burnt the city with fire. ²⁸ And there was no deliverer because it was far from Sidon and they had no dealings with any man and it was in the valley that lies by Beth-rehob. And they built the city and dwelt in it. ²⁹ And they called the name of the city Dan, after the name of Dan their father who was born to Israel. However the name of the city was Laish at first.
³⁰ And the sons of Dan set up for themselves the graven image. And Jonathan, the son of Gershom, the son of Moses, he and his sons were priests to the tribe of the Danites until the day of the captivity of the land. ³¹ So they set up for them Micah's graven image which he made, all the time that the house of God was in Shiloh.

⁴⁰ The seventh lot came out for the tribe of the sons of Dan according to their families. ⁴¹ And the border of their inheritance was Zorah and Eshtaol and Ir-shemesh, ⁴² and Shaalabbin and Aijalon and Ithlah, ⁴³ and Elon and Timnah and Ekron, ⁴⁴ and Eltekeh and Gibbethon and Baalath, ⁴⁵ and Jehud and Bene-berak and Gath-rimmon, ⁴⁶ and Me-jarkon and Rakkon, with the border opposite Joppa.
⁴⁷ And the border of the sons of Dan went out beyond them, for the sons of Dan went up and fought against Leshem and took it and killed* it with the edge of the sword and possessed it and dwelt in it and called Leshem, Dan, after the name of Dan their father.
⁴⁸ This is the inheritance of the tribe of the sons of Dan according to their families, these cities with their villages.

³⁴ And the Amorites forced the sons of Dan into the hill-country, for they would not allow them to come down to the valley,

¹ And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men as spies secretly, saying, Go, view the land and Jericho. And they went and came into the house of a prostitute whose name was Rahab and lay down there.

¹⁵ And Joshua said to them, If you are a great people, get up to the forest and cut down for yourself there in the land of the Perizzites and of the Rephaim, since the hill-country of Ephraim is too narrow for you.
¹⁶ And the sons of Joseph said, The hill-country is not enough for us and all the Canaanites who dwell in the land of the valley have chariots of iron, both those who are in Beth-shean and its towns and those who are in the valley of Jezreel.
¹⁷ And Joshua spoke to the house of Joseph, even to Ephraim and to Manasseh, saying, You are a great people and have great power. You will not have only one lot, ¹⁸ but the hill-country will be your, for though it is a forest, you will cut it down and the goings out of it will be your. For you will drive out the Canaanites, though they have chariots of iron and though they are strong.

⁴¹ And the border of their inheritance was Zorah and Eshtaol and Ir-shemesh,

² And there was a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah and his wife was barren and did not bear.

²⁵ And the Spirit of Jehovah began to move him in Mahaneh-dan, between Zorah and Eshtaol.

³¹ Then his brothers and all the house of his father came down and took him and brought him up and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the burying-place of Manoah his father. And he judged Israel twenty years.

⁸ And they came to their brothers to Zorah and Eshtaol. And their brothers said to them, What do you* say?

¹¹ And there set forth from there of the family of the Danites, out of Zorah and out of Eshtaol, six hundred men girded with weapons of war.

¹⁸ And he said to him, We are passing from Bethlehem in Judah to the farther side of the hill-country of Ephraim. I am from there and I went to Bethlehem in Judah. And I am now going to the house of Jehovah and there is no man that takes me into his house.

¹⁸ Every purpose is established by counsel and make war with wise guidance.

³¹ Or what king, while traveling to encounter a different king in war, has not sit down first and plans if he is able at ten-thousand to encounter the one who is coming against him with twenty thousand?

²² And Jacob went near to Isaac his father. And he felt him and said, The voice is Jacob's voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau.

⁶ then they said to him, Say now Shibboleth and he said Sibboleth, for he could not frame to pronounce it right, then they laid hold on him and killed him at the fords of the Jordan. And there fell at that time of Ephraim forty-two thousand.

¹⁶ What are you doing here? And whom have you here, that you have hewed you out here a sepulcher? Hewing him out a sepulcher on high, carving a habitation for himself in the rock!

⁷³ Now after a little while, those who are standing by, came near and said to Peter, You truly also are one out of them; for even your speech makes it evident.

¹⁰ And Micah said to him, Dwell with me and be to me a father and a priest and I will give you ten pieces of silver by the year and a suit of apparel and your food. So the Levite went in.

¹² And Micah consecrated the Levite and the young man became his priest and was in the house of Micah.

²¹ To have respect of persons is not good, nor that a man should transgress for a piece of bread.

¹¹ Yes, the dogs are greedy; they can never have enough. And these are shepherds who cannot understand. They have all turned to their own way, each one to his gain, from every quarter.

¹⁹ And you* have profaned me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, to kill the souls who should not die and to save the souls alive who should not live, by your* lying to my people who listen to lies.

⁸ They feed on the sin of my people and set their heart on their iniquity. ⁹ And it will be, like people, like priest. And I will punish them for their ways and will requite them for their practices.

¹⁰ Oh that there was among you* who would shut the doors, that you* might not kindle my altar in vain! I have no pleasure in you*, says Jehovah of hosts, nor will I accept an offering at your* hand.

¹² But the hired-servant and not being the shepherd, whose sheep are not his own, views the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees and the wolf seizes them and scatters the sheep. ¹³ Now the hired-servant flees because he is a hired-servant and he himself does not care concerning the sheep.

¹⁸ But when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles’hands the Holy Spirit is given, he offered them monies, ¹⁹ saying, Give to me also this authority, in order that I may lay my hands on whomever, and he may receive the Holy Spirit.
²⁰ But Peter said to him, May your silver together with you be sent into destruction, because you have thought to procure the gift of God through monies! ²¹ You have neither part nor inheritance in this word, for this heart of yours is not straight in God’s sight.

³³ I coveted no one’s silver or gold or garment.

³ not a drunkard, not a bully, not covetous, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a money-lover;

¹¹ whom it is essential to gag; men who are perverting whole houses, teaching things which they ought not teach, because of shameful gain.

³ And in their greed, they will be merchants of you with fabricated words; to whom the condemnation from long-ago is not idle, and their destruction will not be slumbering.

¹⁴ having eyes full of an adulteress and an unceasing sin; enticing unstable souls; having a heart which has been exercised from greed; children of the curse; ¹⁵ having left the straight way. They were misled, having followed in the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;

⁵ And the man Micah had a house of gods and he made an ephod and household-idol and consecrated one of his sons, who became his priest.

¹³ Then Micah said, Now I know that Jehovah will do me good, seeing I have a Levite for my priest.

¹⁴ Then the five men who went to spy out the country of Laish, answered and said to their brothers, Do you* know that there is in these houses an ephod and household-idol and a graven image and a molten image? Now therefore consider what you* have to do.

⁵ And Jehoshaphat said to the King of Israel, I beseech you, inquire first for the word of Jehovah.

¹⁵ And king Ahaz commanded Urijah the priest, saying, Upon the great altar burn the morning burnt offering and the evening meal offering and the king's burnt offering and his meal offering, with the burnt offering of all the people of the land and their meal offering and their drink offerings. And sprinkle upon it all the blood of the burnt offering and all the blood of the sacrifice. But the brazen altar will be for me to inquire by.

¹ Woe to the rebellious sons, says Jehovah, who take counsel, but not of me and who make a league, but not of my Spirit, that they may add sin to sin,

²¹ For the king of Babylon stood at the parting of the way, at the head of the two ways, to use divination. He shook the arrows to and fro. He consulted the household-idol. He looked in the liver.

¹² My people ask counsel at their stock and their staff declares to them, for the spirit of prostitution has made them go-astray and they have played the prostitute, departing from under their God.

¹⁰ To whom they were taking-heed, from the little to the great, saying, This one is the power of God, the Great.

¹² a land which Jehovah your God cares for. The eyes of Jehovah your God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year even to the end of the year.

⁶ Then the King of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men and said to them, Shall I go against Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up, for the Lord will deliver it into the hand of the king.

¹² And all the prophets prophesied so, saying, Go up to Ramoth-gilead and prosper, for Jehovah will deliver it into the hand of the king.

¹⁵ And when he came to the king, the king said to him, Micaiah, will we go to Ramoth-gilead to battle, or will we forbear? And he answered him, Go up and prosper and Jehovah will deliver it into the hand of the king.

¹⁸ Behold, the eye of Jehovah is upon those who fear him, upon those who hope in his loving kindness,

²¹ I did not send these prophets, yet they ran. I did not speak to them, yet they prophesied. ²² But if they had stood in my council, then they would have caused my people to hear my words and would have turned them from their evil way and from the evil of their practices.

³² Behold, I am against those who prophesy lying dreams, says Jehovah and tell them. And make my people go-astray by their lies and by their vain boasting. Yet I sent them not, nor commanded them, neither do they profit this people at all, says Jehovah.

¹¹ Now may our God and Father himself and our Lord Jesus Christ, steer our way toward you.

¹³ For I have told him that I will judge his house everlasting, for the iniquity which he knew, because his sons brought a curse upon themselves and he did not restrain them.

⁶ And his father had not displeased him at any time in saying, Why have you done so? And he was also a very handsome man. And he was born after Absalom.

³ For rulers are not a fear to those of the good works, but to those of the evil works. And you do not wish to be afraid of the authority, do you? Do what is the good thing and you will have praise from it;

¹⁴ or to governors, as they are sent through him for vengeance on evildoers and praise to the doers of good.

⁷ In how-much she glorified herself and was promiscuous, give to her so-much more torment and mourning, because she says in her heart, I am sitting as a queen and I am no widow and may never see mourning.

³¹ Then his brothers and all the house of his father came down and took him and brought him up and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the burying-place of Manoah his father. And he judged Israel twenty years.

³⁰ And Caleb stilled the people before Moses and said, Let us go up at once and possess it, for we are well able to overcome it.

⁷ And they spoke to all the congregation of the sons of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to spy it out, is an exceedingly good land. ⁸ If Jehovah delights in us, then he will bring us into this land and give it to us, a land which flows with milk and honey. ⁹ Only do not rebel against Jehovah, neither fear the people of the land, for they are bread for us. Their defense is removed from over them and Jehovah is with us. Fear them not.

²³ Then the two men returned and descended from the mountain and passed over and came to Joshua the son of Nun. And they told him all that had befallen them. ²⁴ And they said to Joshua, Truly Jehovah has delivered into our hands all the land and moreover all the inhabitants of the land melt away before us.

³ And Joshua said to the sons of Israel, How long are you* slack to go in to possess the land, which Jehovah, the God of your* fathers, has given you*?

⁹ Be strong and strengthen yourselves like men, O you* Philistines, that you* are not servants to the Hebrews, as they have been to you*. Conduct yourselves like men and fight.

¹² Be of good courage and let us play the man on behalf of our people and the cities of our God. And Jehovah do what seems good to him.

³ And the King of Israel said to his servants, Know that Ramoth-gilead is ours and we are still and do not take it out of the hand of the king of Syria?

²³ Now therefore, behold, Jehovah has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets and Jehovah has spoken evil concerning you.

²⁷ Do not work for the food which perishes, but for the food which remains to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will be giving to you; for God, the Father, has sealed this one.

¹¹ But we are desiring each of you to show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope till the end; ¹² in order that you should not become sluggish, but imitators of those who are inheriting the promises through faith and patience.

¹⁰ Hence brethren, be more diligent to make your calling and choice steadfast; for, you may never trip someday while practicing these things; ¹¹ for so the entrance into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be richly supplied to you.

⁸ And I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land to a good and large land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Amorite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite.

²⁹ as the sons of Esau who dwell in Seir and the Moabites who dwell in Ar, did to me, until I will pass over the Jordan into the land which Jehovah our God gives us.

¹ And now, O Israel, listen to the statutes and to the ordinances, which I teach you*, to do them, that you* may live and go in and possess the land which Jehovah, the God of your* fathers, gives you*.

⁷ For Jehovah your God brings you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, flowing forth in valleys and hills; ⁸ a land of wheat and barley and vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olive trees and honey, ⁹ a land in which you will eat bread without scarceness. You will not lack anything in it, a land whose stones are iron and out of whose hills you may dig copper.

¹¹ but the land, where you* go over to possess it, is a land of hills and valleys, and drinks water from the rain of heaven, ¹² a land which Jehovah your God cares for. The eyes of Jehovah your God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year even to the end of the year.

¹⁶ And it happened at the seventh time, when the priests blew the trumpets, Joshua said to the people, Shout, for Jehovah has given you* the city.

⁷ Then the five men departed and came to Laish and saw the people that were in it, how they dwelt in security, according to the manner of the Sidonians, quiet and secure, for there was none in the land possessing authority, that might put them to shame in anything. ¹⁷ Command the rich in this current age, not to be cavalier, nor to have hope on the uncertainty of riches, but have hope in the living God, who is richly providing to us all things toward enjoyment;

¹⁶ And the six hundred men girded with their weapons of war, who were of the sons of Dan, stood by the entrance of the gate.

¹ And the men of Kiriath-jearim came and fetched up the ark of Jehovah and brought it into the house of Abinadab in the hill and made Eleazar his son holy to keep the ark of Jehovah.

⁵ So David assembled all Israel together, from the Shihor the brook of Egypt even to the entrance of Hamath, to bring the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim. ⁶ And David went up and all Israel, to Baalah, that is to Kiriath-jearim, which belonged to Judah, to bring up from there the ark of God, Jehovah who sits above the cherubim that is called by the Name.

⁴ But the ark of God David had brought up from Kiriath-jearim to the place that David had prepared for it. For he had pitched a tent for it at Jerusalem.

³⁰ And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnath-Serah, which is in the hill-country of Ephraim, on the north of the mountain of Gaash.

³³ And Eleazar the son of Aaron died. And they buried him in the hill of Phinehas his son, which was given him in the hill-country of Ephraim.

¹ And there was a man of the hill-country of Ephraim, whose name was Micah.

¹⁹ And when they will say to you*, Seek for those who have familiar spirits and for the wizards, who chirp and who mutter, should not a people seek for their God? On behalf of the living seek to the dead?
²⁰ Seek to the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, surely there is no morning for them.

¹⁴ And he said to him, Go now, see whether it is well with your brothers and well with the flock and bring me word again. So he sent him out of the valley of Hebron and he came to Shechem.

²⁷ And he asked them of their welfare and said, Is your* father well, the old man of whom you* spoke? Is he yet alive?

²² And David left his baggage in the hand of the keeper of the baggage and ran to the army and came and saluted his brothers.

²⁶ I beseech you, run now to meet her and say to her, Is it well with you? Is it well with your husband? Is it well with the child? And she answered, It is well.

¹² Now while entering into the house, greet it. ¹³ And if indeed the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it, but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you.

⁴ Bear no money-bag, no knapsack, no shoes, and greet no one on the road. ⁵ Now into whatever house you enter, say first, Peace is to this house. ⁶ And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest upon it, otherwise it will revisit you.

²⁷ I am leaving peace with you. I am giving my peace to you; not like the world gives, I am giving to you. Let your heart not be disturbed, nor let it be cowardly.

¹⁹ Now Laban had gone to shear his sheep and Rachel stole the household-idol that was her father's.

²⁰ And he took the calf which they had made and burnt it with fire and ground it to powder and scattered it upon the water and made the sons of Israel drink of it.

³¹ And Joash said to all who stood against him, Will you* contend for Baal? Or will you* save him? He who will contend for him, let him be put to death while it is morning. If he is a god, let him contend for himself because he has broken down his altar.

⁴ And when he restored the money to his mother, his mother took two hundred pieces of silver and gave them to the founder, who made of it a graven image and a molten image. And it was in the house of Micah. ⁵ And the man Micah had a house of gods and he made an ephod and household-idol and consecrated one of his sons, who became his priest.

¹¹ And the ark of God was taken and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were killed.

² And the Philistines called for the priests and the psychics, saying, What will we do with the ark of Jehovah? Show us with what we will sent it to its place. ³ And they said, If you* send away the ark of the God of Israel, do not send it empty, but by all means return for him a trespass offering. Then you* will be healed and it will be known to you* why his hand is not removed from you*.
⁴ Then they said, What will be the trespass offering which we will return to him? And they said, Five golden tumors and five golden mice, according to the number of the lords of the Philistines, for one plague was on you* all and on your* lords. ⁵ Therefore you* will make images of your* tumors and images of your* mice that mar the land. And you* will give glory to the God of Israel. Perhaps he will lighten his hand from you* and from your* gods and from your* land.
⁶ Why then do you* harden your* hearts as the Egyptians and Pharaoh hardened their hearts? When he had worked wonderfully among them, did they not let the people go and they departed? ⁷ Now therefore take and prepare for you* a new cart and two milk cows on which there has come no yoke. And tie the cows to the cart and bring their calves home from them. ⁸ And take the ark of Jehovah and lay it upon the cart. And put the jewels of gold, which you* return to him for a trespass offering, in a coffer by the side of it and send it away, that it may go.
⁹ And watch. If it goes up by the way of its own border to Beth-shemesh, then he has done to us this great evil, but if not, then we will know that it is not his hand that killed* us; it was a chance that happened to us.

¹⁸ and have cast their gods into the fire, for they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone. Therefore they have destroyed them. ¹⁹ Now therefore, O Jehovah our God, I beseech you, save us out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you Jehovah are God alone.

¹ Bel bows down, Nebo stoops, their idols are upon the beasts and upon the cattle. The things that you* carried about are made a load, a burden to the weary beast. ² They stoop, they bow down together. They could not deliver the burden, but themselves are gone into captivity.

⁷ They bear it upon the shoulder. They carry it and set it in its place and it stands. From its place it will not remove. Yes, he may cry to it, yet it cannot answer, nor save him out of his trouble.

¹³ And I will cut off your graven images and your pillars out of the midst of you and you will no more worship the work of your hands.

²¹ And the King of Israel said to Elisha, when he saw them, My father, shall I kill* them? Shall I kill* them?

⁸ And the king said to Hazael, Take a present in your hand and go, meet the man of God and inquire of Jehovah by him, saying, Shall I recover of this sickness?
⁹ So Hazael went to meet him and took a present with him, even of every good thing of Damascus, forty camels' burden and came and stood before him and said, Your son Ben-hadad king of Syria has sent me to you, saying, Shall I recover of this sickness?

¹⁴ Now Elisha was fallen sick of his sickness of which he died. And Joash the King of Israel came down to him and wept over him and said, My father, my father, the chariots of Israel and the horsemen of it!

⁵ Mark me and be astonished and lay your* hand upon your* mouth.

⁹ The rulers refrained from talking and laid their hand on their mouth.

⁴ Behold, I am of small account. What shall I answer you? I lay my hand upon my mouth. ⁵ I have spoken once and I will not answer, yes, twice, but I will proceed no further.

³² If you have done foolishly in lifting up yourself, or if you have thought evil, lay your hand upon your mouth.

⁸ Those who make them will be like them. Yes, everyone who trusts in them.

¹⁸ They do not know, nor do they consider. ²⁰ He feeds on ashes. A deceived heart has turned him aside. And he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand?

³⁸ A drought is upon her waters and they will be dried up. For it is a land of graven images and they are mad over idols.

¹⁷ Every man has become stupid, without knowledge. Every goldsmith is put to shame by his image, for his molten image is falsehood and there is no breath in them.

⁵ And Oholah played the prostitute when she was mine and she doted on her lovers, on the Assyrians her neighbors,

¹⁸ What profits the graven image, that the maker of it has engraved it, the molten image, even the teacher of lies, that he who fashions its form trusts in it, to make dumb idols?
¹⁹ Woe to him who says to the wood, Awake! To the dumb stone, Arise! Shall this teach? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.

²⁶ And you view and hear, that not only from Ephesus, but almost all of Asia, this Paul has persuaded and seduced a considerable crowd, saying that they are not gods, those born through man’s hands.

² with whom the kings of the earth fornicated and those who are dwelling in the earth were made drunken from the wine of her fornication.

⁵ Let darkness and the shadow of death claim it for their own. Let a cloud dwell upon it. Let blackness come upon it.

¹ In those days there was no king in Israel. And in those days the tribe of the Danites sought for them an inheritance to dwell in, for to that day their inheritance had not fallen to them among the tribes of Israel.

⁶ And when the sons of Ammon saw that they stunk to David, the sons of Ammon sent and hired the Syrians of Beth-rehob and the Syrians of Zobah, twenty thousand footmen and the king of Maacah with a thousand men and the men of Tob twelve thousand men.

⁶ And your handmaid had two sons and they two strove together in the field and there was none to part them, but the one killed* the other and killed him.

But if you* do not worship, you* will be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. And who is that god who will deliver you* out of my hands?
¹⁶ Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. ¹⁷ If it is so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king.

¹⁴ And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he led out his trained men, born in his house, three hundred and eighteen of them and pursued as far as Dan.

²⁰ And Ben-hadad listened to king Asa and sent the captains of his armies against the cities of Israel and killed* Ijon and Dan and Abelbeth-maacah and all Chinneroth, with all the land of Naphtali.

²² And she bore a son and he called his name Gershom, because he said, I have been a traveler in a foreign land.

³ and her two sons, of whom the name of the one was Gershom, because he said, I have been a traveler in a foreign land.

⁴ You will not make to you a graven image, nor any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

¹ You* will make for you* no idols. Neither will you* rear up for you* a graven image, or a pillar. Neither will you* place any figured stone in your* land, to bow down to it. For I am Jehovah your* God.

² If there is found in the midst of you, within any of your gates which Jehovah your God gives you, man or woman, who does what is evil in the sight of Jehovah your God, in transgressing his covenant, ³ and has gone and served other gods and worshiped them, or the sun, or the moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded, ⁴ and it is told you and you have heard of it, then will you inquire diligently. And behold, if it is true and the thing certain, that such abomination is worked in Israel, ⁵ then you will bring forth that man or that woman, who has done this evil thing, to your gates, even the man or the woman and you will stone them to death with stones.
⁶ At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, will he who is to die be put to death. He will not be put to death at the mouth of one witness. ⁷ The hand of the witnesses will be first upon him to put him to death and afterward the hand of all the people. So you will put away the evil from the midst of you.

¹⁵ Cursed be the man who makes a graven or molten image, an abomination to Jehovah, the work of the hands of the craftsman and sets it up in secret. And all the people will answer and say, Truly.

¹⁶ And Jehovah said to Moses, Behold, you will sleep with your fathers. And this people will rise up and play the prostitute after the strange gods of the land where they go to be among them and will forsake me and break my covenant which I have made with them.

²⁹ For I know that after my death you* will utterly corrupt yourselves and turn aside from the way which I have commanded you*. And evil will befall you* in the latter days, because you* will do what is evil in the sight of Jehovah, to provoke him to anger through the work of your* hands.

¹ And the sons of Israel again did what was evil in the sight of Jehovah and Jehovah delivered them into the hand of the Philistines forty years.

³ And he restored the eleven hundred pieces of silver to his mother. And his mother said, I verily dedicate the silver to Jehovah from my hand for my son to make a graven image and a molten image. Now therefore I will restore it to you.

² And the Philistines put themselves in array against Israel. And when they joined battle, Israel was struck before the Philistines; and they killed of the army in the field about four thousand men.
³ And when the people came into the camp, the elders of Israel said, Why has Jehovah struck us today before the Philistines? Let us fetch the ark of the covenant of Jehovah out of Shiloh to us, that it may come among us and save us out of the hand of our enemies.

¹⁰ And the Philistines fought and Israel was struck and they fled every man to his tent. And there was a very great slaughter, for there fell of Israel thirty thousand footmen.
¹¹ And the ark of God was taken and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were killed.

⁶⁰ so that he forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men, ⁶¹ and delivered their strength into captivity and their glory into the adversary's hand.
⁶² He also gave his people over to the sword and was angry with his inheritance.

⁴⁴ And he gave them the lands of the nations and they took the labor of the peoples in possession, ⁴⁵ that they might keep his statutes and observe his laws. Praise Jehovah.

¹ And the whole congregation of the sons of Israel assembled themselves together at Shiloh and set up the tent of meeting there and the land was subdued before them.

²¹ and watch. And behold, if the daughters of Shiloh come out to dance in the dances, then come out of the vineyards and catch for you* every man his wife from the daughters of Shiloh and go to the land of Benjamin.

³ And this man went up out of his city from year to year to worship and to sacrifice to Jehovah of hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, priests to Jehovah, were there.

⁴ So the people sent to Shiloh and they brought from there the ark of the covenant of Jehovah of hosts, who sits above the cherubim. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.

¹² But go now to my place which was in Shiloh, where I caused my name to dwell at the first and see what I did to it for the wickedness of my people Israel.
