²⁰ For everyone who is practicing evil, hates the light, and is not coming to the light, in order that his works should not convict him.

⁸ And the King of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, there is yet one man by whom we may inquire of Jehovah, Micaiah the son of Imlah, but I hate him, for he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. And Jehoshaphat said, Do not let the king say so.

¹³ These are of those who rebel against the light. They do not know the ways of it, nor abide in the paths of it. ¹⁴ The murderer rises with the light. He kills the poor and needy. And in the night he is as a thief. ¹⁵ The eye also of the adulterer waits for the twilight, saying, No eye will see me. And he disguises his face.
¹⁶ In the dark they dig through houses. They shut themselves up in the daytime. They do not know the light. ¹⁷ For the morning is to all of them as thick darkness. For they know the terrors of the thick darkness.

¹⁷ since you hate instruction and cast my words behind you?

²⁹ because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of Jehovah.

¹⁸ But the path of the righteous is as the dawning light, that shines more and more to the perfect day.

¹² and say, How I have hated instruction and my heart despised reproof.

¹² A scoffer does not like to be reproved. He will not go to the wise.

¹⁰ They hate he who reproves in the gate and they abhor he who speaks uprightly. ¹¹ Inasmuch therefore as you* trample upon the poor and take exactions of wheat from him. You* have built houses of hewn stone, but you* will not dwell in them. You* have planted pleasant vineyards, but you* will not drink the wine of it.

⁴⁵ Now someone from the professors of the law, answered and says to him, Teacher, you are also insulting us in saying these things.

⁷ The world is not able to hate you, but it hates me, because I am testifying concerning it, that its works are evil.

¹¹ And have no fellowship together with the unfruitful works of darkness, but also rather reprove them; ¹² for it is shameful even to speak of the things happening by them covertly. ¹³ But being reproved, all things are manifested by the light; for everything which is manifested is light.

²³ Because if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he resembles a man considering his face (which was his from birth) in a mirror. ²⁴ For he has considered himself, and has gone away and immediately forgot what sort of man he was. ²⁵ But he who has peered into the complete law, the law of freedom, and has remained in it, this one, having not become a forgetful hearer, but a doer of works, this one will be fortunate in his doing.
