¹¹ There is a crying in the streets because of the wine. All joy is darkened. The gladness of the land has gone.

⁶ Give strong drink to him who is ready to perish and wine to the bitter in soul.

²² And they will look to the earth, and behold, distress and darkness, the gloom of anguish and into thick darkness to be driven away.

¹⁹ Through the wrath of Jehovah of hosts is the land burnt up and the people are as the fuel of fire; no man spares his brother.

¹⁰ And gladness is taken away and joy out of the fruitful field. And there will be no singing nor joyful noise in the vineyards. No treader will tread out wine in the presses. I have made the vintage shout to cease.

⁷ The new wine mourns. The vine languishes. All the merry-hearted do sigh. ⁸ The joy of tambourine ceases. The noise of those who rejoice ends. The joy of the harp ceases. ⁹ They will not drink wine with a song. Strong drink will be bitter to those who drink it.

¹³ Thorns and briers will come up on the land of my people, yes, upon all the houses of joy in the joyous city.

³³ And gladness and joy is taken away from the fruitful field and from the land of Moab. And I have caused wine to cease from the winepresses. None will tread with shouting. The shouting will be no shouting.

¹⁴ The elders have ceased from the gate, the young men from their music. ¹⁵ The joy of our heart is ceased, our dance is turned into mourning.

¹⁴ And they have not cried to me with their heart, but they howl upon their beds. They assemble themselves for grain and new wine. They rebel against me.

¹⁵ Alas for the day! For the day of Jehovah is at hand and it will come as destruction from the Almighty.

¹⁶ Therefore Jehovah says thus, the God of hosts, the Lord: Wailing will be in all the broad ways. And they will say in all the streets, Alas! Alas! And they will call the farmer to mourning and such as are skillful in lamentation to wailing. ¹⁷ And in all vineyards will be wailing, for I will pass through the midst of you, says Jehovah.
¹⁸ Woe to you* who desire the day of Jehovah! Why would you* have the day of Jehovah? It is darkness and not light. ¹⁹ As if a man fled from a lion and a bear met him, or went into the house and leaned his hand on the wall and a serpent bit him. ²⁰ Shall not the day of Jehovah be darkness and not light, even very dark and no brightness in it?

¹¹ But when the king came in to look at those reclining at the table, he saw a man there who has not clothed himself in wedding attire; ¹² and he says to him, Comrade, how did you come in here not having on your wedding attire? Now he was dumbfounded. ¹³ Then the king said to the servants, When you bind him hand and foot, take him away and cast him out into the outer darkness–the weeping and the gnashing of teeth will be there.

²⁵ But Abraham said, Child, remember that you received your good things in your life and Lazarus likewise evil things, but now he is comforted here and you are in anguish.
