¹⁷ And the appearance of the glory of Jehovah was like devouring fire on the top of the mountain in the eyes of the sons of Israel.

² And the messenger of Jehovah appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush. And he looked, and behold, the bush burned with fire and the bush was not consumed.

¹⁸ And Mount Sinai, the whole of it, smoked, because Jehovah descended upon it in fire and the smoke of it ascended as the smoke of a furnace. And the whole mountain quaked greatly.

²⁴ For Jehovah your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.

³⁶ Out of heaven he made you to hear his voice, that he might instruct you. And upon earth he made you to see his great fire and you heard his words out of the midst of the fire.

⁶ Who can stand before his indignation? And who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? His wrath is poured out like fire and the rocks are broken apart by him.

⁴ And his brightness was as the light. He had rays from his hand and there was the hiding of his power. ⁵ Before him went the pestilence. And fiery bolts went forth at his feet.

¹⁸ For you have not come to a mountain which has been touched and burned with fire and to blackness and to darkness and to whirlwind,

²⁹ for our God is also a consuming fire.
