¹⁶ The fathers will not be put to death for the sons, neither will the sons be put to death for the fathers. Every man will be put to death for his own sin.

⁵ And it happened, as soon as the kingdom was established in his hand, that he killed his servants who had slain the king his father, ⁶ but he did not put to death the sons of the murderers, according to what is written in the book of the law of Moses, as Jehovah commanded, saying, The fathers will not be put to death for the sons, nor the sons be put to death for the fathers, but every man will die for his own sin.

⁴ But he did not put their sons to death, but did according to what is written in the law in the book of Moses, as Jehovah commanded, saying, The fathers will not die for the sons, neither will the sons die for the fathers, but every man will die for his own sin.

²⁹ In those days they will no more say, The fathers have eaten sour grapes and the son's teeth are set on edge. ³⁰ But everyone will die for his own iniquity. Every man who eats the sour grapes, his teeth will be set on edge.

²⁰ The soul that sins, it will die.
The son will not bear the iniquity of the father, nor will the father bear the iniquity of the son. The righteousness of a righteous man will be upon him and the wickedness of a wicked man will be upon him.
