¹⁴ I will be his father and he will be my son. If he commits wicked things, I will chasten him with the rod of men and with the stripes of the sons of men,

⁵ And you will consider in your heart, that, as a man disciplines his son, so Jehovah your God disciplines you.

¹³ I will be his father and he will be my son. And I will not take my loving kindness away from him as I took it from him who was before you.

⁶ And he said to me, Solomon your son, he will build my house and my courts, for I have chosen him to be my son and I will be his father.

¹⁷ Behold, fortunate is the man whom God corrects. Therefore do not despise you the chastening of the Almighty.

²⁰ I have found David my servant. I have anointed him with my holy oil, ²¹ with whom my hand will be established. My arm also will strengthen him.
²² The enemy will not exact from him, nor the son of wickedness afflict him. ²³ And I will beat down his adversaries before him and kill* those who hate him, ²⁴ but my faithfulness and my loving kindness will be with him and in my name will his horn be exalted.
²⁵ I will also set his hand on the sea and his right hand on the rivers.
²⁶ He will cry to me, You are my Father, my God and the rock of my salvation. ²⁷ I also will make him firstborn, the highest of the kings of the earth.
²⁸ I will keep my loving kindness for him everlasting. And my covenant will stand fast with him. ²⁹ I will also make his seed to endure forever and his throne as the days of heaven.
³⁰ If his sons forsake my law and do not walk in my ordinances, ³¹ if they break my statutes and do not keep my commandments, ³² then I will visit their transgression with the rod and their iniquity with stripes, ³³ but my loving kindness I will not utterly take from him, nor allow my faithfulness to fail.
³⁴ I will not break my covenant, nor alter the thing that has gone out of my lips.
³⁵ I have sworn once by my holiness; I will not lie to David. ³⁶ His seed will endure everlasting and his throne as the sun before me. ³⁷ It will be established everlasting as the moon and as the faithful witness in the sky. Selah.

¹² The man whom you discipline is fortunate, O Jehovah and teach out of your law, ¹³ that you may give him rest from the days of adversity, until the pit is dug for a wicked man.

¹¹ My son, do not despise the chastening of Jehovah, nor be weary of his reproof. ¹² Because whom Jehovah loves he reproves and he whips every son whom he receives.

¹¹ For I am with you, says Jehovah, to save you. For I will make a full end of all the nations where I have scattered you, but I will not make a full end of you. But I will discipline you in measure and will in no way leave you unpunished.

¹⁷ and behold, a voice came out of the heavens, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am delighted.

³² But being judged, we are disciplined by the Lord, in order that we should not be condemned together with the world.

⁵ For to which of the messengers has he previously said, ‘You are my Son; I have fathered you today.’? And again, ‘I will be a Father to him and he will be for Son to me.’?

⁵ And you have forgotten the encouragement which reasons with you as with sons, ‘My son, do not regard-lightly the disciplining of the Lord, nor be fainting when you are reproved by him. ⁶ For whom the Lord loves, he disciplines, and scourges every son whom he is accepting.’ ⁷ It is for disciplining that you endure; God is dealing with you as with sons; for what is the son whom his father is not disciplining? ⁸ But if you are without discipline, of which all have become partakers, consequently, you are illegitimate and not sons. ⁹ Thereafter, we have indeed had the fathers of our flesh as correctors of us, and we were revering them. Will we not much rather be made subject to the Father of spirits and we will live? ¹⁰ For they indeed were disciplining us for a few days according to what did seem right to them, but he does it upon what is advantageous for us, that we may receive of his holiness. ¹¹ Now indeed all disciplining does not seem to be a thing of joy for the present, but of sorrow; now later it gives peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been exercised because of it.

¹⁹ As many as I love, I reprove and discipline; therefore be zealous and repent.
