¹⁷ And David spoke to Jehovah when he saw the messenger who killed* the people and said, Behold, I have sinned and I have done perversely, but these sheep, what have they done? I beseech you, let your hand, be against me and against my father's house.

³³ Now therefore, I beseech you, let your servant abide a bondman to my lord instead of the young man and let the young man go up with his brothers.

¹⁰ And David's heart killed* him after he had numbered the people. And David said to Jehovah, I have sinned greatly in what I have done, but now, O Jehovah, I beseech you, put away the iniquity of your servant, for I have done very foolishly.

¹⁷ And he said, I saw all Israel scattered upon the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd. And Jehovah said, These have no master, let them return every man to his house in peace.

¹⁶ And David lifted up his eyes and saw the messenger of Jehovah standing between earth and heaven, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces.
¹⁷ And David said to God, Is it not I who commanded the people to be numbered? Even I it is who have sinned and done very badly. But these sheep, what have they done? I beseech you, O Jehovah my God, let your hand be against me and against my father's house, but not against your people, that they should be plagued.

²⁰ If I have sinned, what do I do to you, O you, watcher of men? Why have you set me as a mark for you, so that I am a burden to myself?

⁶ Therefore I abhor myself and repent in dust and ashes.

¹¹ You have made us like sheep for food and have scattered us among the nations.

² Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. ³ Because I know my transgressions and my sin is always before me.
⁴ Against you, you only, I have sinned and done what is evil in your sight, that you may be justified when you speak and may prevail when you are criticized.
⁵ Behold, I was brought out in iniquity and my mother conceived me in sin.

¹ O God, why have you cast off forever? Why does your anger smoke against the sheep of your pasture?

⁵ Then I said, Woe is me! For I am undone, because I am a man of unclean lips and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips. For my eyes have seen the King, Jehovah of hosts.

² Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel. Prophesy and say to them, even to the shepherds, Thus says the Lord Jehovah: Woe to the shepherds of Israel who feed themselves! Should not the shepherds feed the sheep?
³ You* eat the fat and you* clothe yourselves with the wool. You* kill the fattened-ones, but you* do not feed the sheep. ⁴ You* have not strengthened the diseased, nor have you* healed what was sick, nor have you* bound up what was broken, nor have you* brought back what was driven away, nor have you* sought what was lost, but you* have ruled over them with force and with rigor.
⁵ And they were scattered because there was no shepherd. And they became food to all the beasts of the field and were scattered. ⁶ My sheep wandered through all the mountains and upon every high hill. Yes, my sheep were scattered upon all the face of the earth and there was none who searched or sought.

²³ And I will set up one shepherd over them and he will feed them, even my servant David. He will feed them and he will be their shepherd. ²⁴ And I, Jehovah, will be their God and my servant David ruler among them. I, Jehovah, have spoken it.

⁷ Awake, O sword, against my shepherd and against the man who is my companion, says Jehovah of hosts. Strike the shepherd and the sheep will be scattered. And I will turn my hand upon the little ones.

¹¹ I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life on behalf of the sheep. ¹² But the hired-servant and not being the shepherd, whose sheep are not his own, views the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees and the wolf seizes them and scatters the sheep.

²⁴ who, himself, carried our sins in his body upon the tree, in order that we might live to righteousness, having died to our sins; by whose wound s you were healed. ²⁵ For you were being misled like sheep, but now were returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
