¹⁴ But I have a few things against you, because you have there those who hold the teachings of Balaam, who taught Balak to cast a stumbling-block before the sons of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols and to commit fornication.

¹⁴ And now, behold, I go to my people. Come! I will make known to you what this people shall do to your people in the latter days.

¹ And Israel lived in Shittim, and the people began to fornicate with the daughters of Moab. ² And they called the people to the sacrifices of their gods. And the people ate and bowed down to their gods. ³ And Israel joined himself to Baal-peor. And the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel.

⁸ And they killed the kings of Midian, besides the rest of their slain: Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian. They also killed Balaam the son of Beor with the sword.

¹⁶ Behold, these caused the sons of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit sin against Jehovah in the matter of Peor, and the plague was on the congregation of Jehovah.

⁹ Then Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, arose and warred against Israel, and sent and called Balaam the son of Beor to curse you.

¹⁴ And He shall say, Raise up! Raise up! Clear the way! Make the stumbling-block rise out of the way of My people.

²¹ Therefore so says Jehovah, Behold, I will lay stumbling-blocks before this people, and the fathers and the sons together shall fall on them; the neighbor and his friend shall perish.

²⁰ And when the righteous turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, and when I lay a stumbling block before him, he shall die. Because you have not given him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he has done shall not be remembered; but his blood I will require at your hand.

¹² Because they ministered to them before their idols, and caused the house of Israel to fall into iniquity, therefore I have lifted up My hand against them, says the Lord Jehovah, and they shall bear their iniquity.

⁷ Woe to the world because of offenses! For it is necessary that offenses come; but woe to that man by whom the offense comes!

²⁰ but that we write to them that they should abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood. ²¹ For Moses from ages past has those in every city proclaiming him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath day.

²⁹ that you abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication; from which, if you keep yourselves, you shall do well. Be prospered.

²⁵ And as to the nations who believe, we joined in writing, judging them to observe no such things, except only that they keep themselves from both idol sacrifice, and blood, and a thing strangled, and from fornication.

³² Why? Because it was not of faith, but as it were by the works of the Law. For they stumbled at that Stumbling-stone;

⁹ And David said, "Let their table become for a snare and a trap and a stumbling block and a recompense to them.

¹³ Then let us not judge one another any more, but rather judge this, not to put a stumbling-block or an offense toward his brother.

²¹ It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor anything by which your brother stumbles, or is offended, or is made weak.

²³ but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block, and to the Greeks foolishness.

¹³ Meats for the belly and the belly for meats, but God shall destroy both it and them. But the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord is for the body. ¹⁴ And God has both raised up the Lord, and also will raise us up by His own power. ¹⁵ Do you not know that your bodies are the members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them the members of a harlot? Let it not be! ¹⁶ Or do you not know that he being joined to a harlot is one body? For He says, The two shall be one flesh. ¹⁷ But he being joined to the Lord is one spirit. ¹⁸ Flee fornication. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits fornication sins against his own body.

² But, because of the fornications, let each have his own wife, and let each have her own husband.

⁴ Then concerning the eating of the things sacrificed to idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no other God except one. ⁵ For though there are those who are called gods, whether in Heaven or in earth (as there are many gods and many lords), ⁶ but there is to us only one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and we by Him. ⁷ But this knowledge is not in all. But some being aware of the idol eat as an idolatrous sacrifice until now, and their conscience being weak is defiled. ⁸ But food does not commend us to God. For neither if we eat are we the better, nor if we do not eat are we the worse. ⁹ But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours becomes a stumbling block to those who are weak. ¹⁰ For if anyone sees you who have knowledge sitting in an idol temple, will not the weak one's conscience be lifted up so as to eat things sacrificed to idols? ¹¹ And on your knowledge the weak brother will fall, he for whom Christ died. ¹² And sinning in this way against your brothers, and wounding their conscience, being weak, you sin against Christ. ¹³ Therefore, if food offends my brother, I will eat no flesh forever, that I do not offend my brother.

¹⁸ Behold Israel after the flesh. Are not those who eat of the sacrifices also partakers of the altar? ¹⁹ What then do I say? That the idol is anything, or that an idolatrous sacrifice is anything? ²⁰ But I say that the things which the nations sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons and not to God. And I do not desire that you should have fellowship with demons. ²¹ You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot be partakers of the Lord's table and of a table of demons. ²² Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than He? ²³ All things are lawful to me, but not all things profit. All things are lawful to me, but not all things build up. ²⁴ Let no one seek his own, but each one another's. ²⁵ Eat whatever is sold in the meat market, asking no question for conscience' sake; ²⁶ "for the earth is the Lord's, and the fullness of it." ²⁷ If any of those who do not believe invite you to a feast, and if you are disposed to go, eat whatever is set before you, asking no questions for conscience' sake. ²⁸ But if anyone says to you, This is slain in sacrifice to idols, do not eat for the sake of him who showed it, and for conscience' sake; "for the earth is the Lord's, and the fullness of it"; ²⁹ conscience, I say, not your own, but the other's. For why is my liberty judged by another's conscience? ³⁰ For if I by grace am a partaker, why am I evil spoken of for that for which I give thanks? ³¹ Therefore whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

⁴ Marriage is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled, but fornicators and adulterers God will judge.

⁸ and a Stone-of-stumbling and a Rock-of-offense to those disobeying, who stumble at the Word, to which they also were appointed.

¹⁵ who have forsaken the right way and have gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness,

¹¹ Woe to them! For they went the way of Cain, and gave themselves up to the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Korah.

⁴ But I have against you that you left your first love.

²⁰ But I have a few things against you because you allow that woman Jezebel to teach, she saying herself to be a prophetess, and to cause My servants to go astray, and to commit fornication, and to eat idol-sacrifices.

⁸ But the fearful, and the unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, will have their part in the Lake burning with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.

¹⁵ But outside are the dogs, and the sorcerers, and the fornicators, and the murderers, and the idolaters, and everyone who loves and makes a lie.
