⁵ A man who flatters his neighbor spreads a net for his feet.

¹⁷ And your handmaid said, The word of my lord the king shall now be comforting. For as an angel of God, so is my lord the king, to see what is good and bad. And Jehovah your God will be with you. ¹⁸ And the king answered and said to the woman, Please do not hide from me the thing that I shall ask you. And the woman said, Let my lord the king now speak. ¹⁹ And the king said, Is the hand of Joab with you in all this? And the woman answered and said, As your soul lives, my lord the king, none shall turn to the right hand or to the left from anything which my lord the king has spoken. For your servant Joab commanded me. And he put all these words in the mouth of your handmaid. ²⁰ Your servant Joab has done this thing to change the face of the matter. And my lord is wise according to the wisdom of an angel of God, to know all that is in the land. ²¹ And the king said to Joab, Behold now, I have done this thing. Go therefore and bring the young man Absalom again. ²² And Joab fell to the ground on his face, and bowed himself, and thanked the king. And Joab said, Today your servant knows that I have found grace in your sight, my lord, O, king, in that the king has done what your servant has asked. ²³ And Joab arose and went to Geshur, and brought Absalom to Jerusalem. ²⁴ And the king said, Let him turn to his own house, and let him not see my face. And Absalom returned to his own house, and did not see the king's face.

⁵ He who for a share informs against friends, even the eyes of his children shall fail.

⁹ For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is wickedness; their throat is an open grave; they flatter with their tongue.

² They speak vanity each one with his neighbor; with flattering lips and a double heart they speak.

¹⁷ Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird,

⁵ so that they may keep you from the strange woman, from the stranger who flatters with her words.

²¹ With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him.

¹⁹ A gossip is a revealer of secrets; so do not mix with him who flatters with his lips.

²⁴ He who hates pretends with his lips and stores up deceit within him. ²⁵ When he makes his voice gracious, do not believe him; for seven hateful things are in his heart.

²⁸ A lying tongue hates those afflicted by it, and a flattering mouth works ruin.

¹³ From above He has sent fire into my bones and it has laid them low. He has spread a net for my feet; He has turned me back; He has made me amazed and faint all the day.

¹ Hear this, O priests, and listen, house of Israel. And give ear, house of the king. For judgment is toward you, because you have been a snare on Mizpah and a net spread on Tabor.

²⁰ And they watched and sent forth spies, pretending themselves to be righteous men, so that they might seize upon a word of His, that they might deliver Him in this way to the power and authority of the governor. ²¹ And they asked Him, saying, Teacher, we know that you say and teach rightly, and do not accept the person of anyone, but truly teach the way of God.

¹⁸ For they who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches they deceive the hearts of the simple.

⁵ For neither at any time did we use flattering words, as you know, nor with pretense of covetousness; God is witness.
