And he had peace on all sides all around him. ²⁵ And Judah and Israel lived safely, every man under his vine and under his fig-tree, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, all the days of Solomon. ²⁶ And Solomon had forty thousand stalls of horses for his chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen. ²⁷ And those officers provided food for King Solomon and for all who came to King Solomon's table, every man in his month. They did not lack anything. ²⁸ They also brought barley and straw for the horses and mules, to the place where the officers were, every man according to his charge.

²⁵ And over the king's treasures was Azmaveth the son of Adiel. And over the storehouses in the fields, in the cities, and in the villages, and in the strongholds, was Jehonathan the son of Uzziah. ²⁶ Ezri the son of Chelub was over the work of the field for farming the ground. ²⁷ And over the vineyards was Shimei of Ramah. Over the increase of the vineyards for the wine cellars was Zabdi the Shiphmite. ²⁸ And over the olive trees and the sycamore trees that were in the low plains was Baal-hanan of Geder. And over the cellars of oil was Joash. ²⁹ And over the herds that fed in Sharon was Shitrai of Sharon. And over the herds in the valleys was Shaphat the son of Adlai. ³⁰ Over the camels also was Obil the Ishmaelite. And over the asses was Jehdeiah the Meronothite. ³¹ And over the flocks was Jaziz the son of Hagar. All these were the rulers of the substance which was King David's.

² And I have prepared with all my might for the house of my God the gold for things of gold, and the silver for things of silver, and the bronze for things of bronze, the iron for things of iron, and wood for things of wood, onyx stones, and stones to be set, and also stones of antimony, and stones of many colors, and every precious stone, and stones of alabaster, in abundance. ³ And also, because I have delighted in the house of my God, out of my own treasure of gold and silver I have given to the house of my God over and above all that I have prepared for the holy house, ⁴ three thousand talents of gold, of the gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined silver, to overlay the walls of the houses; ⁵ the gold for things of gold, and the silver for things of silver, and for all kinds of work by the hands of skillful workers. And who is willing to consecrate his service this day to Jehovah? ⁶ And the chiefs of the fathers, and the rulers of the tribes of Israel, and the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, with the rulers of the king's work, offered willingly. ⁷ And they gave for the service of the house of God five thousand talents of gold and ten thousand darics, and ten thousand talents of silver, and eighteen thousand talents of bronze, and one hundred thousand talents of iron. ⁸ And he who had precious stones gave to the treasury of the house of Jehovah by the hand of Jehiel the Gershonite. ⁹ And the people rejoiced, because they offered willingly, because with perfect heart they offered willingly to Jehovah. And David the king also rejoiced with great joy.

¹⁸ And Solomon made all these vessels in great abundance. For the weight of the bronze could not be found out. ¹⁹ And Solomon made all the vessels for the house of God, and the golden altar, and the tables on which the showbread was set; ²⁰ and the lampstands of pure gold with their lamps, so that they should burn according to the Law before the holy place; ²¹ and the flowers, and the lamps, and the tongs of gold, perfect gold; ²² and the snuffers, and the basins, and the spoons, and the censers, of pure gold; and the entrance of the house, the inner doors of it for the Holy of Holies, and the doors of the house of the temple, of gold.

⁴ And he did the right in the sight of Jehovah, according to all that his father Amaziah did. ⁵ And he sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God. As long as he sought Jehovah, God blessed him. ⁶ And he went out and warred against the Philistines, and broke down the wall of Gath, and the wall of Jabneh, and the wall of Ashdod, and built cities around Ashdod, and among the Philistines. ⁷ And God helped him against the Philistines, and against the Arabians who lived in Gurbaal, and the Meunites. ⁸ And the Ammonites paid tribute to Uzziah. And his name spread abroad even to the entrance of Egypt, for he was made very strong. ⁹ And Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the Corner Gate and at the Valley Gate, and at the Turning, and fortified them. ¹⁰ And he built towers in the desert, and dug many wells. For he had many cattle, both in the low country and in the plains. He also had husbandmen and vinedressers in the mountains, and in Carmel. For he loved the earth. ¹¹ And, Uzziah had an army making war, going out to war by troops, according to the number of their oversight by the hand of Jeiel the scribe and Maaseiah the ruler, under the hand of Hananiah, one of the king's leaders.

³⁹ For the sons of Israel and the sons of Levi shall bring the offering of the grain, of the new wine, and the oil, to the rooms where the vessels of the sanctuary are, and the priests who minister, and the gatekeepers and the singers. And we will not forsake the house of our God.

⁵ and he had prepared for himself a large room where they had in days of old laid the food offering, the frankincense, and the vessels, and the tithes of the grain, the new wine, and the oil, which was commanded to be given to the Levites, and the singers, and the gatekeepers, and the offerings of the priests. ⁶ But in all this time I was not at Jerusalem. For in the thirty-second year of Artaxerxes king of Babylon, I came to the king. And after some days I was given permission to leave the king. ⁷ And I came to Jerusalem, and understood the evil which Eliashib did for Tobiah in preparing him a room in the courts of the house of God. ⁸ And it grieved me very much. And I threw all the household stuff of Tobiah out of the room. ⁹ Then I commanded, and they purified the rooms. And I brought there again the vessels of the house of God, with the food offering and the frankincense. ¹⁰ And I saw that the portions of the Levites had not been given to them; for the Levites and the singers, who did the work, had fled each one to his field. ¹¹ And I contended with the rulers and said, Why is the house of God forsaken? And I gathered them together and set them in their place. ¹² And all Judah brought the tithe of the grain and the new wine and the oil into the treasuries. ¹³ And I made treasurers over the treasuries, Shelemiah the priest, and Zadok the scribe, and of the Levites, Pedaiah. And next to them was Hanan the son of Zaccur, the son of Mattaniah. For they were counted faithful, and their office was to distribute to their brothers.

²¹ I may cause those who love me to inherit riches; and I will fill their treasuries.

⁶ In the house of the righteous is much treasure, but in the gain of the wicked is trouble.

¹⁵ There is gold and a multitude of rubies; but the lips of knowledge are a rare jewel.

²⁰ A desirable treasure and oil are in the home of the wise; but a foolish man swallows it up.

²³ Know well the face of your flocks; set your heart on your herds. ²⁴ For riches are not forever; nor the crown from generation to generation. ²⁵ When the hay is removed, and the tender grass is seen, and mountain-plants are gathered, ²⁶ the lambs are for your clothing, and the goats are the price of the field. ²⁷ And you shall have goats' milk enough for your food, for the food of your household, and a living for your young women.

⁵² Then He said to them, Therefore every scribe who is instructed to the kingdom of Heaven is like a man who is a householder, who brings out things new and old out of his treasure.
