¹⁴ Blessed is the man dreading God, but he who hardens his heart shall fall into mischief. ¹⁵ Like a roaring lion and a ranging bear, so is a wicked ruler over the helpless people. ¹⁶ A ruler lacking understanding even adds oppressions; he who hates unjust gain shall prolong his days. ¹⁷ A man who is pressed down with the blood of a soul shall flee to the pit; do not let them uphold him. ¹⁸ Whoever walks uprightly shall be saved; but he who is perverse in his ways shall fall at once.

² The virgin of Israel has fallen; she shall rise no more; she lies forsaken on her land. There is none to raise her up.

¹⁴ They who swear by the sin of Samaria and say, As your god lives, O Dan; and, As the way of Beer-sheba lives; even they shall fall and never rise up again.

⁸ Rejoice not against me, my enemy; for if I fall, I shall arise; for if I sit in darkness, Jehovah shall be a light to me. ⁹ I will bear the fury of Jehovah, because I have sinned against Him, until He pleads my cause and brings out judgment for me. He will bring me out to the light, and I shall behold His righteousness. ¹⁰ Then my enemy shall see it; and shame shall cover her who said to me, Where is Jehovah your God? My eyes shall behold her; now she shall be trampled like the mud of the streets.

²³ And immediately the angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give God the glory. And he was eaten by worms and gave up the spirit.

²³ Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as beside myself,) I am more! I have been in labors more abundantly, in stripes above measure, in prisons more, in deaths many times. ²⁴ Five times from the Jews I received forty stripes minus one. ²⁵ Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked. I have spent a night and a day in the deep. ²⁶ I have been in travels often; in dangers from waters; in dangers from robbers; in dangers from my race; in dangers from the heathen; in dangers in the city; in dangers in the wilderness; in dangers on the sea; in dangers among false brothers. ²⁷ I have been in hardship and toil; often in watchings; in hunger and thirst; often in fastings; in cold and nakedness;

³ For when they shall say, Peace and safety! Then sudden destruction comes on them, as travail upon a woman with child. And they shall not escape.

²⁰ Rejoice over her, Heaven, and the holy apostles, and the prophets, since God judged your judgment on her. ²¹ And one strong angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying, So on an impulse the great city, Babylon, will be thrown down and not at all will be found any more.
