³³ The lot is cast into the lap, but the whole disposing of it is from Jehovah.

⁵⁵ But the land shall be divided by lot. According to the names of the tribes of their fathers they shall inherit. ⁵⁶ According to the lot shall the possession of it be divided between many and few. ⁵⁷ And these are the numbered ones of the Levites according to their families: of Gershon, the family of the Gershonites; of Kohath, the family of the Kohathites; of Merari, the family of the Merarites. ⁵⁸ These are the families of the Levites: the family of the Libnites, the family of the Hebronites, the family of the Mahlites, the family of the Mushites, the family of the Korathites. And Korah fathered Amram. ⁵⁹ And the name of Amram's wife was Jochebed, the daughter of Levi, whom one bore to Levi in Egypt. And she bore to Amram Aaron and Moses, and Miriam their sister. ⁶⁰ And to Aaron was born Nadab, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. ⁶¹ And Nadab and Abihu died when they offered strange fire before Jehovah. ⁶² And their numbered ones, twenty-three thousand, all males from a month old and upward. For they were not numbered among the sons of Israel, because there was no inheritance given them among the sons of Israel. ⁶³ These are those numbered by Moses and Eleazar the priest, who numbered the sons of Israel in the plains of Moab beside Jordan at Jericho. ⁶⁴ But among these there was not a man of them whom Moses and Aaron the priest numbered, when they numbered the sons of Israel in the wilderness of Sinai. ⁶⁵ For Jehovah had said of them, They shall surely die in the wilderness. ¹⁴ And in the morning, you shall be brought according to your tribes. And it shall be, the tribe which Jehovah takes shall come, according to its families. And the family which Jehovah shall take shall come by households. And the household which Jehovah shall take shall come man by man.

⁵ And they shall divide it into seven parts. Judah shall stay within their border on the south, and the house of Joseph shall stay within their borders on the north.

¹⁰ And Joshua cast lots for them in Shiloh before Jehovah. And Joshua divided the land to the sons of Israel there, according to their divisions.

⁴¹ And Saul said to Jehovah, the God of Israel, Give a perfect lot. And Saul and Jonathan were taken, but the people escaped. ⁴² And Saul said, Cast lots between me and my son Jonathan. And Jonathan was taken.

¹⁸ The lot causes arguments to cease, and divides between the mighty.

²⁶ Many seek the ruler's favor; but each man's judgment comes from Jehovah.
