⁵³ He has filled the hungry with good things, and He has sent away the rich empty.

⁵ They that were full have hired themselves out for bread, and they that were hungry ceased; yea, while the barren has borne seven, and she who had many sons has languished.

¹⁰ The young lions lack, and suffer hunger; but those who seek Jehovah shall not lack any good thing.

⁸ Oh that men would praise Jehovah for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the sons of man! ⁹ For He satisfies the thirsty soul, and fills the hungry soul with good.

⁷ who carries out judgment for the mistreated; who gives food to the hungry. Jehovah lets the prisoners loose;

²⁹ And I will raise up for them a noted planting place, and they shall never again be of those gathered by famine in the land, nor shall they bear the shame of the nations any more.

⁶ Blessed are they who hunger and thirst after righteousness! For they shall be filled.

²¹ Blessed are you who hunger now, for you shall be filled. Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh.

²⁴ But woe to you who are rich! For you have received your consolation.

¹⁶ And He spoke a parable to them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully. ¹⁷ And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room in which to store my fruits? ¹⁸ And he said, I will do this. I will pull down my barns and build bigger ones, and I will store all my fruits and my goods there. ¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years. Take your ease, eat drink and be merry. ²⁰ But God said to him, Fool! This night your soul shall be required of you, then whose shall be those things which you have prepared? ²¹ So is he who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.

¹⁹ There was a certain rich man who was customarily clothed in purple and fine linen and making merry in luxury every day. ²⁰ And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, who was laid at his gate, full of sores ²¹ and desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table. But even the dogs came and licked his sores. ²² And it happened that the beggar died and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom. The rich one also died and was buried. ²³ And in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. ²⁴ And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus so that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am tormented in this flame. ²⁵ But Abraham said, Son, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things. But now he is comforted and you are tormented.

¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed within himself in this way: God, I thank You that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax-collector. ¹² I fast twice on the Sabbath, I give tithes of all that I possess. ¹³ And standing afar off, the tax-collector would not even lift up his eyes to Heaven, but struck on his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner! ¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself shall be abased, and he who humbles himself shall be exalted.

²⁴ And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, He said, How hardly those having riches shall enter into the kingdom of God! ²⁵ For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye than for a rich one to enter into the kingdom of God.

¹¹ And Jesus took the loaves, and when He had given thanks, He distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to those who had reclined; and likewise of the fish, as much as they wanted. ¹² And when they were filled, He said to His disciples, Gather up the fragments left over, so that nothing is lost. ¹³ Therefore they gathered and filled twelve handbaskets with fragments of the five barley loaves which were left over to those who had eaten.

³⁵ And Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes on Me shall never thirst.

²⁶ For you see your calling, brothers, that not many wise men according to the flesh are called, not many mighty, not many noble.

⁸ Already you are full! Already you are rich! You have reigned as kings without us! And oh that indeed you did reign, that we also might reign with you.

⁵ Listen, my beloved brothers, has not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He has promised to those who love Him? ⁶ But you dishonored the poor one. Do not rich men oppress you and draw you before the judgment seats?

¹ Come now, rich ones, weep and howl for your hardships coming on. ² Your riches have rotted, and your clothes have become moth-eaten. ³ Your gold and silver have corroded, and their poison will be a witness against you, and will eat your flesh as fire. You heaped treasure in the last days. ⁴ Behold, the hire of the laborers reaping your fields cry out, being kept back by you. And the cries of those who have reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of hosts. ⁵ You have lived luxuriously on the earth, and lived wantonly. You have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter. ⁶ You have condemned and murdered the just; he does not resist you.

¹⁷ Because you say, I am rich and increased with goods and have need of nothing, and do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked, ¹⁸ I counsel you to buy from Me gold purified by fire, so that you may be rich; and white clothing, so that you may be clothed, and so that the shame of your nakedness does not appear. And anoint your eyes with eye salve, so that you may see.

¹⁶ They will not hunger any more, nor thirst any more, nor will the sun light on them, nor any heat. ¹⁷ For the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will feed them and will lead them to the fountains of living waters. And God will wipe away all tears from their eyes.
