⁴ And I gave to Isaac Jacob and Esau. And I gave Esau Mount Seir for his own, but Jacob and his sons went down to Egypt.

²⁴ And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, twins were in her womb! ²⁵ And the first came out red, all over like a hairy garment. And they called his name Esau. ²⁶ And after that his brother came out, and his hand took hold on Esau's heel. And his name was called Jacob. And Isaac was sixty years old when she bore them.

³ And Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother, to the land of Seir, the country of Edom.

⁸ And Esau lived in Mount Seir. Esau is Edom.

¹ And Israel took his journey with all that he had, and came to Beer-sheba, and offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac. ² And God spoke to Israel in the visions of the night, and said, Jacob, Jacob! And he said, Here I am. ³ And He said, I am God, the God of your fathers. Do not fear to go down into Egypt, for I will make of you a great nation. ⁴ I will go down with you into Egypt, and I will also surely bring you up again. And Joseph shall put his hand on your eyes. ⁵ And Jacob rose up from Beer-sheba. And the sons of Israel carried Jacob their father, and their little ones, and their wives, in the wagons which Pharaoh had sent to carry him. ⁶ And they took their cattle, and their goods which they had gotten in the land of Canaan, and came into Egypt, Jacob and all his seed with him. ⁷ His sons, and his sons' sons with him, his daughters, and his sons' daughters, and all his seed, he brought with him into Egypt.

⁵ Do not meddle with them, for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as a foot breadth, because I have given Mount Seir to Esau for a possession.

²³ Israel also came into Egypt, and Jacob resided in the land of Ham.
