⁶ My people have been lost sheep; their shepherds have caused them to go astray; they have turned them away on the mountains. They have gone from mountain to hill; they have forgotten their resting place.

² He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.

⁷ You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall circle me with songs of deliverance. Selah.

¹ A Prayer of Moses, the man of God. O Jehovah, You have been our dwelling-place in all generations.

¹ He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall rest under the shadow of the Almighty.

⁷ Return to your rest, O my soul; for Jehovah has dealt bountifully with you.

¹⁷⁶ I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek Your servant; for I do not forget Your Commandments.

⁷ Tell me, You whom my soul loves, where do You feed, where do You lie down at noon? For why should I be as one who is veiled beside the flocks of Your companions? ⁸ If you know not, most beautiful among women, go in the footsteps of the flock; and feed your kids beside the shepherds' tents.

¹⁵ For so says the Lord Jehovah, the Holy One of Israel, In returning and rest you shall be saved; and in quietness and hope shall be your strength. And you were not willing.

² And a man shall be as a hiding place from the wind, and a shelter from the tempest, like streams of water in a dry place, like the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.

⁶ All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, each one to his own way; and Jehovah has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

¹⁰ His watchmen are blind; they are all ignorant; they are all dumb dogs who cannot bark, dreaming, lying down, loving to slumber. ¹¹ Yea, they are greedy dogs which can never have enough; and they are shepherds who cannot understand. They all look to their own way, every one for his gain, to his own end. ¹² They say, come, Let us take wine, and let us gulp strong drink; and tomorrow shall be like today, and much more abundant.

²⁰ For long ago you broke your yoke and tore up your bonds; and you said, I will not transgress, when on every high hill and under every green tree you lay down like a harlot.

³² Can a virgin forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? Yet My people have forgotten Me days without number.

⁶ Jehovah also said to me in the days of Josiah the king, Have you seen that which backsliding Israel has done? She has gone up on every high mountain and under every green tree, and has fornicated there.

²³ Truly, for delusion comes from the high hills, tumult on the mountains. Truly, in Jehovah our God is the salvation of Israel.

²¹ For the pastors have become stupid, and have not sought Jehovah, therefore they shall not be blessed, and all their flocks shall be scattered.

¹¹ For both prophet and priest are ungodly; yes, in My house I have found their evil, says Jehovah. ¹² So their way shall be to them as slippery ways in the darkness; they shall be driven on, and fall in them; for I will bring evil on them, even the year of their judgment, says Jehovah. ¹³ And I have seen frivolity in the prophets of Samaria; they prophesied by Baal and caused My people Israel to go astray. ¹⁴ I have also seen in the prophets of Jerusalem a horrible thing; they commit adultery and walk in falsehood. They also strengthen to the hands of evildoers, so that none returns from his evil; they are all of them like Sodom to Me, and its inhabitants like Gomorrah. ¹⁵ So Jehovah of Hosts says this concerning the prophets: Behold, I will feed them wormwood, and make them drink poisonous water; for from the prophets of Jerusalem ungodliness has gone forth into all the land.

¹⁷ Israel is a scattered sheep, driven away by lions. First the king of Assyria devoured him, and last this Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon crunched his bones.

¹⁹ And I will again bring Israel to his home, and he shall feed on Carmel and Bashan, and his soul shall be satisfied on Mount Ephraim and Gilead.

⁴ You have not made the weak strong, nor have you healed the sick, nor have you bound up the broken. You have not brought again those driven away, nor have you sought that which was lost; but you have ruled them with force and with cruelty. ⁵ And they were scattered for lack of a shepherd. And they became food to all the beasts of the field when they were scattered. ⁶ My sheep wandered through all the mountains and on every high hill. Yea, My flock was scattered on all the face of the earth, and none searched nor sought for them. ⁷ Therefore, shepherds, hear the Word of Jehovah: ⁸ As I live, says the Lord Jehovah, surely because My flock became a prey, and My flock became food to every beast of the field, because there was no shepherd, nor did My shepherds search for My flock, but the shepherds fed themselves and did not feed My flock, ⁹ therefore, O shepherds, hear the Word of Jehovah. ¹⁰ So says the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I am against the shepherds, and I will require My flock at their hand, and cause them to cease from feeding the flock. Nor shall the shepherds feed themselves any more; for I will deliver My flock from their mouth, and they will not be food to devour. ¹¹ For so says the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I Myself will search for My sheep and seek them out. ¹² As a shepherd seeks out his flock in the day that he is among his scattered sheep, so I will seek out My sheep and will deliver them out of all places where they have been scattered in the cloudy and dark day.

¹⁴ I will feed them in a good pasture, and their fold shall be on the high mountains of Israel. There they shall lie in a good fold, and in a fat pasture they shall feed on the mountains of Israel.

²⁵ And I will make a covenant of peace with them, and will send the evil beasts out of the land. And they shall dwell safely in the wilderness and sleep in the woods. ²⁶ And I will make them, and the places around My hill, a blessing; and I will bring down the shower in its season. There shall be showers of blessing. ²⁷ And the tree of the field shall yield her fruit, and the earth shall yield her increase. And they shall be safe in their land, and they shall know that I am Jehovah, when I have broken the bands of their yoke, and have delivered them out of the hands of those who enslaved them. ²⁸ And no more shall they be a prey to the nations, nor shall the beast of the land eat them. But they shall dwell safely, and none shall terrify them.

⁴ For so says Jehovah my God: Feed the flock of the slaughter, ⁵ those buying them kill them, and hold themselves not guilty. And those who sell them say, Blessed be Jehovah, for I am rich; and their shepherds do not pity them. ⁶ For I will never again pity the people of the land, says Jehovah; but lo, I will make the men come out, each one into his neighbor's hand and into his king's hand. And they shall strike the land, and I will not deliver out of their hand. ⁷ And I fed the flock of slaughter, even the poor of the flock. And I took two staffs for myself; the one I called Kindness, and the other I called Union. And I fed the flock. ⁸ I also cut off three shepherds in one month; and my soul was impatient with them, and their soul also despised me. ⁹ And I said, I will not feed you; that which dies, let it die; and that which is to be cut off, let it be cut off. And those left, let them eat, each woman her neighbor's flesh.

³⁶ But seeing the crowds, He was moved with compassion on them, because they were tired and scattered like sheep having no shepherd.

⁶ But rather go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

²⁴ But He answered and said, I am not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

¹⁰ Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I say to you that in Heaven their angels always behold the face of My Father in Heaven. ¹¹ For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost. ¹² What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them strays, does he not leave the ninety and nine and go into the mountains and seek the straying one? ¹³ And if it happens that he finds it, truly I say to you, he rejoices more over it than over the ninety and nine which did not stray.

⁴ What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness and go after that which is lost until he finds it? ⁵ And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. ⁶ And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost. ⁷ I say to you that likewise joy shall be in Heaven over one sinner who repents, more than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.

²⁵ For you were as sheep going astray, but now you are turned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
