⁵ So says Jehovah, the God of Israel: Like these good figs, so I will acknowledge the exiles of Judah, whom I have sent out of this place into the land of the Chaldeans for their good.

¹⁶ who fed you in the wilderness with manna which your fathers did not know, so that He might humble you and so that He might prove you, to do you good in your latter end,

¹² Blessed is the man whom You chasten, O Jehovah, to teach him out of Your Law; ¹³ that You may give him rest from the days of trouble, until the pit is dug for the wicked. ¹⁴ For Jehovah will not cast off His people, nor will He forsake His inheritance.

⁶⁷ Before I was afflicted I went astray; but now I have kept Your Word.

⁷¹ It is good for me that I have been afflicted, so that I might learn Your Precepts.

⁷ Jehovah is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knows those who trust in Him.

⁹ And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried. They shall call on My name, and I will answer them; I will say, It is My people; and they shall say, Jehovah is my God.

¹² But he answered and said, Truly I say to you, I do not know you.

²⁷ My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.

²⁸ And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

³ But if any one loves God, he has been known of him.

⁹ But now, knowing God, but rather are known by God, how do you turn again to the weak and beggarly elements to which you again desire to slave anew?

¹⁹ Nevertheless the foundation of God stands sure, having this seal: "The Lord knew those who are His." And, "Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity!"

⁵ And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons, "My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when you are rebuked by Him; ⁶ for whom the Lord loves He chastens, and He scourges every son whom He receives." ⁷ If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons, for what son is he whom the father does not chasten? ⁸ But if you are without chastisement, of which all are partakers, then you are bastards and not sons. ⁹ Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh who corrected us, and we gave them reverence. Shall we not much rather be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live? ¹⁰ For truly they chastened us for a few days according to their own pleasure, but He for our profit, that we might be partakers of His holiness.

¹⁹ As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten; therefore be zealous and repent.
