³ And I will make you swear by Jehovah, the God of Heaven and the God of the earth, that you shall not take a wife to my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell.

² the sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were good. And they took wives for themselves from all whom they chose.

⁴ There were giants in the earth in those days. And also after that, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore to them, they were mighty men who existed of old, men of renown.

¹⁵ And Canaan fathered Sidon, his first-born, and Heth, ¹⁶ and the Jebusite and the Amorite, and the Girgashite, ¹⁷ and the Hivite, and the Arkite, and the Sinite, ¹⁸ and the Arvadite, and the Zemarite, and the Hamathite. And afterward the families of the Canaanites were spread abroad. ¹⁹ And the border of the Canaanites was from Sidon (as you come to Gerar) to Gaza, as you go in towards Sodom and Gomorrah and Admah and Zeboim, even to Lasha.

¹⁹ And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of Heaven and earth.

²² And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lifted up my hand to Jehovah, the most high God, the possessor of Heaven and earth,

²³ Now therefore swear to me here by God that you will not deal falsely with me, nor with my son, nor with my son's son. Do to me according to the kindness that I have sworn to you, and to the land in which you have lived.

²⁸ And they said, We saw certainly that Jehovah was with you. And we said, Let there be now an oath between us, between us and you, and let us make a covenant with you; ²⁹ that you will do us no harm since we have not touched you, and since we have done nothing but good to you, and have sent you away in peace. You are now the blessed of Jehovah. ³⁰ And he made them a feast, and they ate and drank. ³¹ And they rose up early in the morning, and swore to one another. And Isaac sent them away, and they departed from him in peace.

³⁴ And Esau was forty years old when he took to wife Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Basemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite; ³⁵ who were a grief of spirit to Isaac and to Rebekah.

⁴⁶ And Rebekah said to Isaac, I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth. If Jacob takes a wife of the daughters of Heth, like these of the daughters of the land, what good is my life to me?

⁸ and when Esau saw that the daughters of Canaan did not please Isaac his father;

⁴⁴ And come now, let us make a covenant, you and I. And let it be for a witness between you and me. ⁴⁵ And Jacob took a stone and set it up as a memorial pillar. ⁴⁶ And Jacob said to his brothers, Gather stones. And they took stones and made a heap. And they ate there upon the heap. ⁴⁷ And Laban called it in Syrian, Heap of the Testimony, and Jacob called it in Hebrew, Heap of Testimony. ⁴⁸ And Laban said, This heap is a witness between you and me this day. Therefore the name of it was called Heap of Testimony, ⁴⁹ and Watchtower, for he said, Jehovah watch between you and me when we are absent from one another. ⁵⁰ If you shall not afflict my daughters, or if you shall take wives besides my daughters, no man is with us. See! God is witness between you and me. ⁵¹ And Laban said to Jacob, Behold this heap, and behold the pillar which I have set up between you and me. ⁵² This heap is a witness, and the pillar is a witness, that I will not pass over this heap to you, and that you shall not pass over this heap and this pillar to me, for harm. ⁵³ The God of Abraham, and the God of Nahor, the God of their father, judge between us. And Jacob swore by the Fear of his father Isaac.

²⁵ And Joseph took an oath of the sons of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones from here.

⁷ You shall not take the name of Jehovah your God in vain. For Jehovah will not hold him guiltless that takes His name in vain.

¹¹ an oath of Jehovah shall be between them both, that he has not put his hand to his neighbor's goods. And the owner of it shall accept it, and he shall not make it good.

¹³ And be watchful in all that I have said to you. And make no mention of the name of other gods, neither let it be heard out of your mouth.

¹⁶ and lest you take from their daughters for your sons, and their daughters go whoring after their gods and make your sons go whoring after their gods.

¹² And you shall not swear by My name falsely; nor shall you profane the name of your God. I am Jehovah.

²¹ then the priest shall charge the woman with an oath of cursing. And the priest shall say to the woman, Jehovah make you a curse and an oath among your people, when Jehovah makes your thigh to fall away and your belly to swell.

¹³ You shall fear Jehovah your God and serve Him, and shall swear by His name.

³ Nor shall you make marriages with them. You shall not give your daughter to his son, nor shall you take his daughter to your son. ⁴ For they will turn away your son from following Me, so that they may serve other gods. So the anger of Jehovah will be kindled against you and will destroy you suddenly.

²⁰ You shall fear Jehovah your God. You shall serve Him, and you shall hold fast to Him, and swear by His name.

¹² Now therefore, I pray you, swear to me by Jehovah, since I have dealt with you in kindness, that you will also deal with kindness to my father's house. And give me a true token,

¹⁷ And Jonathan caused David to swear again, because he loved him. For he loved him as he loved his own soul.

¹⁵ And Hezekiah prayed before Jehovah and said, O Jehovah, the God of Israel, who dwells between the cherubs, You are God Himself, You alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made the heavens and the earth.

¹² And Hiram said, Blessed be Jehovah, the God of Israel, who made heaven and earth, who has given to David the king a wise son blessed with judgment and understanding, who might build a house for Jehovah and a house for his kingdom.

⁶ You, even You, are Jehovah alone. You have made the heavens, heaven of the heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things on it, the seas, and all in them, and You preserve them all. And the host of the heavens worships You.

²⁵ And I contended with them, and cursed them, and struck certain of them, and plucked off their hair. And I made them swear by the name of God, saying, You shall not give your daughters to their sons, or take their daughters to your sons, or for yourselves.

¹⁵ You are blessed of Jehovah who made the heavens and the earth.

²³ I have sworn by Myself, the word has gone out of My mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, that to Me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.

¹ Hear this, O house of Jacob, who are called by the name of Israel, and have come out of the waters of Judah; who swear by the name of Jehovah and make mention of the God of Israel (but not in truth nor in righteousness).

¹⁶ He who blesses himself in the earth shall bless himself in the God of truth. And he who swears in the earth will swear by the God of truth; because the former troubles are forgotten, and because they are hidden from My eyes.

² And you shall swear, Jehovah lives, in truth, in judgment, and in righteousness; and the nations shall bless themselves in Him, and in Him they shall glory.

¹¹ So you shall say to them, The gods who have not made the heavens and the earth, they shall perish from the earth and from under these heavens.

¹⁶ And it will be if they will carefully learn the ways of My people, to swear by My name, As Jehovah lives; as they taught the people to swear by Baal; then they shall be built in the midst of My people.

⁵ and those bowing to the host of heaven on the housetops, and those bowing, swearing to Jehovah, also swearing by Malcham;

³⁹ The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband lives, but if her husband sleeps in death, she is at liberty to be remarried to whom she will, only in the Lord.

¹⁴ Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers; for what fellowship does righteousness have with lawlessness? And what partnership does light have with darkness? ¹⁵ And what agreement does Christ have with Belial? Or what part does a believer have with an unbeliever? ¹⁶ And what agreement does a temple of God have with idols? For you are the temple of the living God, as God has said, "I will dwell in them and walk among them; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people." ¹⁷ Therefore come out from among them and be separated, says the Lord, and do not touch the unclean thing. And I will receive you

¹⁶ For men truly swear by the greater, and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife.
