¹⁶ Go, gather all the Jews who are present in Shushan, and fast for me, and do not eat nor drink three days, night or day. My maidservants and I will also fast in the same way. And so I will go in to the king, which is not according to the law. And if I perish, I perish.

¹⁹ For I know him, that he will command his sons and his house after him, and they shall keep the way of Jehovah, to do justice and judgment, that Jehovah may bring upon Abraham that which He has spoken of him.

¹⁴ And God Almighty give you mercy before the man, so that he may send away your other brother and Benjamin. If I am bereaved, I am bereaved.

¹⁵ And if it seems evil to you to serve Jehovah, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served Beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you live. But as for me and my house, we will serve Jehovah.

⁵ For he took his life in his hand and killed the Philistine, and Jehovah worked out a great salvation for all Israel. You saw and rejoiced! Why then will you sin against innocent blood, to kill David without a cause?

¹² Be of good courage, and let us play the men for our people and for the cities of our God. And may Jehovah do that which seems good to Him.

³ And Jehoshaphat feared and set himself to seek Jehovah, and called for a fast throughout all Judah.

¹ And it happened on the third day, Esther put on royal clothing, and stood in the inner court of the king's house, across from the king's house. And the king sat on his royal throne in the royal house, across from the gate of the house.

¹² And in that day Jehovah of Hosts called to weeping and mourning, and to baldness, and to girding with sackcloth.

¹⁴ Set apart a fast; call a solemn gathering; gather the elders and all the people of the land into the house of Jehovah your God, and cry to the Lord, ¹⁵ Alas for the day! For the day of Jehovah is at hand, and it shall come as a ruin from the Almighty.

¹² Yet even now, says Jehovah, turn to Me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning. ¹³ Yes, tear your heart and not your robes, and turn to Jehovah your God: for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and He pities because of the evil. ¹⁴ Who knows if He will turn and have pity and leave a blessing behind Him, a food offering and a drink offering to Jehovah your God? ¹⁵ Blow a trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn gathering. ¹⁶ Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, gather the elders, gather the children and those who suck the breasts. Let the bridegroom go forth out of his chamber, and the bride out of her room. ¹⁷ Let the priests, the ministers of Jehovah, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, Have pity on Your people, O Jehovah, and give not Your inheritance to shame, for a proverb among those of the nations. Why should they say among the people, Where is their God?

⁴ And Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey, and he cried and said, Yet forty days and Nineveh shall be overthrown! ⁵ And the people of Nineveh believed God. And they called a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them. ⁶ For word came to the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne. And he laid his robe from him, and covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in ashes. ⁷ And he cried out and said in Nineveh by the decree of the king and his great ones, saying, Do not let man or beast, herd or flock taste anything; do not let them feed, nor drink water. ⁸ But let man and animal be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily to God. And let them each one turn from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands. ⁹ Who knows? He may repent, and God may have pity and turn away from the glow of His anger, so that we do not perish.

⁴⁰ For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the huge fish, so the Son of Man shall be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

²⁴ For whoever will save his life shall lose it, but whoever will lose his life for My sake, he shall save it.

⁹ And he was three days not seeing, and did not eat or drink.

⁷ And when the angel who spoke to Cornelius departed, he called two of his servants and a devout soldier from those who waited on him continually.

²⁴ But none of these things move me, neither do I count my life dear to myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus Christ, to testify fully the gospel of the grace of God.

¹³ Then Paul answered, What are you doing, weeping and breaking my heart? For I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.

³³ And until day was about to come, Paul begged all to take food, saying, This is the fourteenth day that you continued waiting without food, having taken nothing.

⁴ who have laid down their own necks for my life; to whom not only I give thanks, but also the churches of the nations.

³⁰ because for the work of Christ he was near death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me.
