⁴ Do not speak in your heart, after Jehovah your God has cast them out from before you, saying: For my righteousness, Jehovah has brought me in to possess this land. But for the wickedness of these nations, Jehovah your God drives them out from before you.

¹⁶ But in the fourth generation they shall come here again, for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.

²⁴ Do not defile yourselves in any of these things. For in all these the nations are defiled, which I cast out before you. ²⁵ And the land is defiled. Therefore I visit its wickedness on it, and the land itself vomits out those who live in it. ²⁶ You shall therefore keep My statutes and My judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations, neither the native, nor any stranger that lives among you. ²⁷ For the men of the land who were before you have done all these abominations, and the land is defiled. ²⁸ You shall not do these so that the land may not spew you out also when you defile it, as it spewed out the nations that were before you. ²⁹ For whoever shall commit any of these abominations, even the souls who commit them shall be cut off from among their people. ³⁰ And you shall keep My ordinance, so as not to do any of these abominable customs which were committed before you, and that you do not defile yourselves in them. I am Jehovah your God.

⁷ Jehovah did not set His love upon you, nor choose you, because you were more in number than any people, for you were the fewest of all people. ⁸ But because Jehovah loved you, and because He would keep the oath which He had sworn to your fathers, Jehovah has brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you out of the house of slaves, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

¹⁷ and so that you might not say in your heart, My power and the might of my hand has gotten me this wealth.

⁵ Not for your righteousness, or for the uprightness of your heart, do you go to possess their land. But for the wickedness of these nations Jehovah your God drives them out from before you, so that He may perform the Word which Jehovah swore to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

³¹ You shall not do so to Jehovah your God. For every abomination to Jehovah, which He hates, they have done to their gods; even their sons and their daughters they have burned in the fire to their gods.

⁹ When you come to the land which Jehovah your God gives you, you shall not learn to do according to the abominations of those nations. ¹⁰ There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that uses divination, an observer of clouds, or a fortune-teller, or a witch, ¹¹ or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or one who calls to the dead. ¹² For all that do these things are an abomination to Jehovah. And because of these abominations Jehovah your God drives them out from before you. ¹³ You shall be perfect with Jehovah your God. ¹⁴ For these nations whom you shall possess listened to observers of clouds and to diviners. But as for you, Jehovah your God has not allowed you to do so.

²² Therefore say to the house of Israel, So says the Lord Jehovah: I do not do this for your sake, O house of Israel, but for My holy name's sake, which you have profaned among the nations where you went.

³² I do not do this for your sake, says the Lord Jehovah, be it known to you. Be ashamed and confounded for your ways, O house of Israel.

⁶ But if by grace, then it is no more of works; otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it is of works, then it is no more of grace; otherwise work is no more work.

²⁰ Well, because of unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by faith. Do not be high-minded, but fear.

⁴ for I know nothing by myself. Yet I have not been justified by this, but He who judges me is the Lord.

⁷ For who makes you to differ from another? And what do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?

⁴ But God, who is rich in mercy, for His great love with which He loved us ⁵ (even when we were dead in sins) has made us alive together with Christ (by grace you are saved),

⁹ who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given us in Christ Jesus before the eternal times.

³ For we ourselves also were once foolish, disobedient, deceived, slaving for various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, hating one another. ⁴ But when the kindness and love of God our Savior toward man appeared, ⁵ not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit,
