⁵ When a man has taken a new wife, he shall not go out to war, neither shall he be charged with any duty. He shall be free at home one year, and shall cheer up his wife whom he has taken.

²⁴ Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave to his wife and they shall be one flesh.

⁷ And who is the man that has become engaged to a wife and has not taken her? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle and another man take her.

¹⁸ Let your fountain be blessed, and rejoice with the wife of your youth.

⁹ Look on life with the wife whom you love all the days of the life of your vanity, which He has given you under the sun, all the days of your vanity. For that is your share in this life, and in your labor which you labor under the sun.

⁴ And He answered and said to them, Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning "made them male and female", ⁵ and said, For this cause a man shall leave father and mother and shall cling to his wife, and the two of them shall be one flesh? ⁶ Therefore they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.

¹⁰ And to the married I command (not I, but the Lord), a woman not to be separated from her husband. ¹¹ But if she is indeed separated, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband. And a husband is not to leave his wife. ¹² But to the rest I speak, not the Lord, If any brother has a wife who does not believe, and she is pleased to dwell with him, do not let him put her away. ¹³ And the woman who has a husband who does not believe, if he is pleased to dwell with her, do not let her leave him. ¹⁴ For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband; else your children would be unclean, but now they are holy. ¹⁵ But if the unbelieving one separates, let him be separated. A brother or a sister is not in bondage in such cases, but God has called us in peace.

²⁹ But this I say, brothers, The time is short. It remains that both those who have wives should be as not having one.

²⁸ So men ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. ²⁹ For no man ever yet hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, even as the Lord loves the church.

⁴ that they may train the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, ⁵ to be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, subject to their own husbands, that the Word of God may not be blasphemed.
