³ And four great beasts came up from the sea, different from one another.

⁴ You are more glorious and excellent than the mountains of prey.

³ And she brought up one of her cubs; it became a strong lion and learned to tear the prey. It ate men. ⁴ The nations also heard of him. He was taken in their pit, and they brought him with chains to the land of Egypt. ⁵ And when she saw that she had waited and that her hope was lost, she took another of her cubs and made him a strong lion. ⁶ And he went up and down among the lions; he became a young lion and learned to tear the prey, and ate men. ⁷ And he knew his widows, and he laid their cities waste, and the land and its fullness was desolated, from the sound of his roaring. ⁸ And the nations set against him on every side from the provinces, and spread their net over him. He was taken in their pit.

³⁷ You, O king, are a king of kings. For the God of Heaven has given you a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory. ³⁸ And wherever the sons of men, the beasts of the field, and the birds of the heavens live, He has given them into your hand, and has made you ruler over them all. You are this head of gold. ³⁹ And after you shall arise another kingdom lower than you, and another third kingdom of bronze, which shall rule over all the earth. ⁴⁰ And the fourth kingdom shall be as strong as iron. Since iron crushes and smashes all things; and as the iron that shatters all these, it will crush and shatter.

⁴ The first was like a lion and had eagle's wings. I watched until its wings were plucked, and it was lifted up from the earth and made to stand on its feet like a man. And a man's heart was given to it. ⁵ And behold another beast, a second, like a bear. And it raised itself up on one side, and it had three ribs in its mouth between its teeth. And they said this to it: Arise, eat up much flesh. ⁶ After this I saw, and lo, another, like a leopard, which had four wings of a bird on its back. The beast also had four heads; and rulership was given to it. ⁷ After this I looked in the night visions, and behold, a fourth beast, frightening and terrifying, and very strong. And it had great iron teeth; it devoured and broke in pieces, and stamped the rest with its feet. And it was different from all the beasts before it; and it had ten horns. ⁸ I was thinking about the horns, and behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom three of the first horns were uprooted. And behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things.

¹⁷ These four great beasts are four kings; they shall arise out of the earth.

¹ And I turned and lifted up my eyes and looked. And behold! Four chariots were coming from between two mountains. And the mountains were mountains of bronze. ² Red horses were in the first chariot; and in the second chariot black horses; ³ and in the third chariot white horses; and in the fourth chariot horses with dappled, strong colors. ⁴ And I answered and said to the angel who talked with me, What are these, my lord? ⁵ And the angel answered and said to me, These are the four spirits of the heavens who go forth from standing before the Lord of all the earth. ⁶ The black horses in it go forth into the north country; and the white go forth after them; and the dappled go forth to a south country. ⁷ And the strong colored ones went forth and sought to go, so to walk to and fro through the earth. And he said, Go! Walk to and fro through the earth. So they walked to and fro through the earth. ⁸ And he cried to me and spoke to me, saying, Behold, these who go toward the north country have caused My Spirit to rest in the north country.

¹ And I stood on the sand of the sea, and I saw a beast coming up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns. And on its horns were ten crowns, and on its heads was the name of blasphemy.
