³⁰ The king spoke and said, Is this not great Babylon that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power and for the honor of my majesty?

¹⁰ And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.

² And it happened, as they traveled from the east, they found a plain in the land of Shinar. And they lived there. ³ And they said to one another, Come, let us make brick and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and they had asphalt for mortar. ⁴ And they said, Come, let us build us a city and a tower, and its top in the heavens. And let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered upon the face of the whole earth. ⁵ And Jehovah came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of Adam had built. ⁶ And Jehovah said, Behold! The people is one and they all have one language. And this they begin to do. And now nothing which they have imagined to do will be restrained from them. ⁷ Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, so that they cannot understand one another's speech. ⁸ So Jehovah scattered them abroad from that place upon the face of all the earth. And they quit building the city. ⁹ Therefore the name of it is called Babel; because Jehovah confused the language of all the earth there. And from there Jehovah scattered them abroad on the face of all the earth.

¹² And the riches and the honor are from You, and You reign over all. And in Your hand is power and might. And it is in Your hand to make great and to give strength to all. ¹³ And now, our God, we thank You and praise Your glorious name. ¹⁴ But who am I, and who my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? For all things are from You, and we have given to You that which is Yours.

⁵ And the house which I am building is great. For our God is great above all gods. ⁶ But who is able to build Him a house, since the heavens and heaven of the heavens cannot contain Him? Who am I then, that I should build Him a house, except only to burn sacrifice before Him?

⁴ And he showed the riches of his glorious kingdom and the honor of his excellent majesty many days, a hundred and eighty days.

²⁰ Man in honor, but without understanding, is like the animals; they shall perish.

⁸ They scoff and speak in malice of cruelty; from on high they speak.

¹ Bless Jehovah, O my soul. O Jehovah my God, You are very great; You have put on honor and majesty,

⁵ I will speak of the glorious honor of Your majesty, and of Your wonderful works. ⁶ And men shall speak of the might of Your awesome works; and I will declare Your greatness. ⁷ They shall pour forth the memory of Your great goodness, and shall sing of Your righteousness. ⁸ Jehovah is gracious and full of pity; slow to anger, and of great mercy. ⁹ Jehovah is good to all; and His tender mercies are over all His works. ¹⁰ All Your works shall praise You, O Jehovah; and Your saints shall bless You. ¹¹ They shall speak of the glory of Your kingdom and talk of Your power, ¹² to make known to the sons of men His mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of His kingdom.

¹⁸ Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

⁸ For he says, Are not my commanders all like kings? ⁹ Is not Calno like Carchemish? Is not Hamath like Arpad? Is not Samaria like Damascus? ¹⁰ As my hand has reached to the kingdoms of the idols, and their graven images more than Jerusalem's and Samaria's; ¹¹ shall I not do to Jerusalem and her idols as I have done to Samaria and her idols? ¹² And it will be, when the Lord has broken off all His work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the proud heart of the king of Assyria and the glory of his high looks. ¹³ For he says, By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I am wise. And I have removed the bounds of the people, and have robbed their treasures, and I have put down the people like a strong man. ¹⁴ And my hand has found as a nest the riches of the people; and as one gathers eggs that are left, I have gathered all the earth; and there was none who moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped. ¹⁵ Shall the axe boast itself against him who chops with it? Shall the saw magnify itself against him who moves it? As if the rod could wave those who lift itself up! As if a staff could raise what is not wood!

²⁴ By your servants you have mocked Jehovah and have said, by my many chariots I have come up to the height of the mountains, to the sides of Lebanon; and I will cut down the tall cedars of it, and its choice fir trees; and I will go to its greatest height, the forest of its Carmel. ²⁵ I have dug and drunk water; and with the sole of my feet I have dried up all the streams of Egypt.

² Son of man, say to the ruler of Tyre. So says the Lord Jehovah: Because your heart is lifted up, and you have said, I am a god, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas; yet you are a man and not God, though you set your heart as the heart of gods; ³ Behold, you are wiser than Daniel; all secret things are not hidden from you! ⁴ With your wisdom and with your understanding you have made riches for yourselves, and have worked gold and silver into your treasuries. ⁵ By your great wisdom and by your trade you have multiplied your riches, and your heart is lifted up because of your riches.

³ Speak and say, So says the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I, even I, am against you, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great dragon who lies in the midst of his rivers, who has said, My river is mine, and I have made it.

¹⁸ O king, the Most High God gave Nebuchadnezzar your father a kingdom, and majesty, and glory, and honor. ¹⁹ And for the majesty that He gave him, all people, nations, and languages trembled and feared before him. He killed whom he would, and whom he would he kept alive. And whom he would, he set up; and whom he would, he put down. ²⁰ But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he was put down from the throne of his kingdom, and they took his glory from him.

¹⁵ He takes up all of them with the hook; he drags him with his net and gathers him with his seine; therefore he rejoices and exults. ¹⁶ So he sacrifices to his net and burns incense to his seine; because by them his portion is fat and his food rich.

⁴ Behold, the soul of him is lifted up, and is not upright; but the just shall live by his faith. ⁵ And also wine indeed betrays a proud man, and he is not content. He widens his soul like Sheol, and he is like death, and is not satisfied, but gathers all nations to himself, and heaps to himself all the peoples.

¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years. Take your ease, eat drink and be merry. ²⁰ But God said to him, Fool! This night your soul shall be required of you, then whose shall be those things which you have prepared?

¹¹ For whoever exalts himself shall be abased, and he who humbles himself shall be exalted.

³¹ Therefore whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

⁵ Likewise, younger ones, be subject to older ones, and all being subject to one another. Put on humility. For God resists proud ones, but He gives grace to the humble.

¹⁹ And the great city came to be into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell. And great Babylon was remembered before God, to give to her the cup of the wine of the anger of His wrath.

⁵ And on her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

¹⁰ standing afar off for fear of her torment, saying, Woe! Woe to the great city, Babylon, that strong city! For in one hour your judgment came.

²¹ And one strong angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying, So on an impulse the great city, Babylon, will be thrown down and not at all will be found any more.

²⁴ And the nations of those who are saved will walk in the light of it; and the kings of the earth bring their glory and honor into it. ²⁵ And its gates may not be shut at all by day, for there shall be no night there. ²⁶ And they shall bring the glory and honor of the nations into it.
