² And Hezekiah set the courses of the priests and the Levites according to their divisions, each according to his service, the priests and Levites for burnt offerings and for peace offerings, to minister and to give thanks, and to praise in the gates of the tents of Jehovah.

⁴ And he appointed certain of the Levites to minister before the ark of Jehovah, and to record, and to thank and praise Jehovah, the God of Israel: ⁵ Asaph the chief, and next to him Zechariah, Jeiel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Mattithiah, and Eliab, and Benaiah, and Obed-edom. And Jeiel praised with instruments of harps and with lyres; and Asaph made a sound with cymbals. ⁶ Also Benaiah and Jahaziel the priests praised with trumpets continually before the ark of the covenant of God.

³⁷ And he left there before the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, for Asaph and his brothers, to minister before the ark continually, as every day's work required;

⁴⁰ to offer burnt offerings to Jehovah on the altar of the burnt offering morning and evening without end, and to do according to all that is written in the Law of Jehovah which He commanded Israel. ⁴¹ And he left with them Heman and Jeduthun, and the rest who were chosen, who were called by name, to give thanks to Jehovah, because His mercy endures forever.

¹ And David was old and full of days, and he made his son Solomon king over Israel. ² And he gathered all the rulers of Israel, with the priests and the Levites. ³ And the Levites were numbered from the age of thirty years and upward. And their number by their heads, man by man, was thirty-eight thousand. ⁴ Of these, twenty-four thousand were to set forward the work of the house of Jehovah, and six thousand officers and judges. ⁵ And four thousand were gatekeepers, and four thousand praised Jehovah with the instruments which David made for praising. ⁶ And David divided them into courses among the sons of Levi, Gershon, Kohath and Merari. ⁷ Of the men of Gershon were Laadan and Shimei. ⁸ The sons of Laadan: Jehiel the chief, and Zetham, and Joel, three. ⁹ The sons of Shimei: Shelomith, and Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the chief of the fathers of Laadan. ¹⁰ And the sons of Shimei: Jahath, Zina, and Jeush, and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei. ¹¹ And Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second. But Jeush and Beriah did not have many sons. Therefore they were in one roster, according to their father's house. ¹² The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four. ¹³ The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses. And Aaron was separated so that he should sanctify the most holy things, he and his sons forever, to burn incense before Jehovah, to minister to Him, and to bless in His name forever. ¹⁴ And as to Moses the man of God, his sons were named of the tribe of Levi. ¹⁵ The sons of Moses: Gershom and Eliezer. ¹⁶ Of the sons of Gershom, Shebuel was the chief. ¹⁷ And the sons of Eliezer: Rehabiah the chief. And Eliezer had no other sons, but the sons of Rehabiah were very many. ¹⁸ Of the sons of Izhar, Shelomith was the chief; ¹⁹ of the sons of Hebron, Jeriah the first, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth. ²⁰ Of the sons of Uzziel, Michah the first, and Jesiah the second. ²¹ The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli: Eleazar and Kish. ²² And Eleazar died, and had no sons, but had daughters. And their brothers, the sons of Kish, took them. ²³ The sons of Mushi: Mahli, and Eder, and Jeremoth, three. ²⁴ These were the sons of Levi after the house of their fathers, the chief of the fathers, as they were counted by number of names by their heads, the ones who did the work for the service of the house of Jehovah, from the age of twenty years and upward. ²⁵ For David said, Jehovah, the God of Israel has given rest to His people so that they may dwell in Jerusalem forever, ²⁶ and also to the Levites, so that they shall no more carry the tabernacle, nor any of its vessels for its service.

²⁸ because their office was to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of Jehovah, in the courts and in the chambers, and in the purifying of all holy things, and the work of the service of the house of God ²⁹ both for the showbread, and for the fine flour for food offering, and for the unleavened cakes, and for the pan, and for that which is fried, and for all kinds of measure and size, ³⁰ and to stand every morning to thank and praise Jehovah, and likewise at evening. ³¹ And they were to offer all burnt sacrifices to Jehovah in the sabbath, in the new moons, and on the set feasts, by number, according to the order commanded to them, continually before Jehovah,

¹ And the divisions of the sons of Aaron were: The sons of Aaron: Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

¹ And David and the army commanders separated to the service those of the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who were prophets with lyres and with cymbals. And the number of the workmen according to their service was: ² of the sons of Asaph, Zaccur, and Joseph, and Nethaniah, and Asarelah, the sons under the hands of Asaph, who prophesied according to the order of the king. ³ Of Jeduthun, the sons of Jeduthun: Gedaliah, and Zeri, and Jeshaiah, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, and Shimei, six, under the hands of their father Jeduthun, who prophesied with the lyre to give thanks and to praise Jehovah.

¹¹ And it happened as the priests came out of the holy place, for all the priests present were sanctified, and did not wait by division.

¹⁴ And according to the order of David his father, he appointed the divisions of the priests to their service, and the Levites to their charges, to praise and minister before the priests, as the duty of every day required; and the gatekeepers by their divisions at every gate; for so David the man of God had commanded.

⁸ And the Levites and all Judah did according to all things that Jehoiada the priest had commanded. And every man took his men who were to come in on the sabbath, with the ones who were to go out on the sabbath. For Jehoiada the priest did not dismiss the divisions.

²⁴ And the priest killed them, and they made atonement with their blood on the altar, to make atonement for all Israel. For the king commanded the burnt offering and the sin offering to be made for all Israel. ²⁵ And he set the Levites in the house of Jehovah with cymbals, with harps, and with lyres, according to the command of David, and of Gad the king's seer and Nathan the prophet. For the commandment was by the hand of Jehovah by His prophets. ²⁶ And the Levites stood with the instruments of David, and the priests with the trumpets.

¹⁸ And they set the priests in their sections, and the Levites in their divisions, for the service of God which is at Jerusalem, as it is written in the book of Moses.

¹⁷ And Mattaniah the son of Micha, the son of Zabdi, the son of Asaph, was the leader to begin the thanksgiving in prayer. And Bakbukiah was second among his brothers, and then Abda the son of Shammua, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun.

¹ A Song of degrees. Behold, bless Jehovah, all servants of Jehovah, who stand by night in the house of Jehovah. ² Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and bless Jehovah. ³ May Jehovah, who made the heavens and earth, bless you out of Zion.

¹ Praise Jehovah! Praise the name of Jehovah; praise Him, servants of Jehovah. ² Those who stand in the house of Jehovah, in the courts of the house of our God, ³ praise Jehovah; for Jehovah is good; sing praises to His name, for it is full of delight.

¹¹ the voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the voice of those who shall say, Praise Jehovah of Hosts, for Jehovah is good, for His mercy endures forever; and the voice of those who shall bring the sacrifice of praise into the house of Jehovah. For I will cause the captivity of the land to return, as at the first, says Jehovah.

⁵ In the days of Herod, the king of Judea, there was a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abijah. And his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.
