¹⁴ And Ahimelech answered the king and said, And who is so faithful among all your servants as David, who is the king's son-in-law, and who goes at your bidding, and who is honorable in your house?

²⁵ And the men of Israel said, Have you seen this man that has come up? Surely he has come up to defy Israel. And it shall be, the king will enrich the man who kills him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father's house free in Israel.

¹³ And Saul moved him away from himself, and made him his commander over a thousand. And he went out and came in before the people.

³² And Jonathan answered Saul his father and said to him, Why shall he be killed? What has he done?

² And David said to Ahimelech the priest, The king has commanded me a business and has said to me, Let no man know anything of the business about which I send you, and what I have sent you. And I have sent servants to such and such a place.

¹³ And Saul said to him, Why have you conspired against me, you and the son of Jesse, in that you have given him bread and a sword, and have asked of God for him, that he should rise against me to lie in wait, as at this day?

¹¹ And, my father, behold! Yes, see the skirt of your robe in my hand. For in that I cut off the skirt of your robe and did not kill you, know and see that there is neither evil nor transgression in my hand, and I have not sinned against you. Yet you hunt my soul to take it.

²³ May Jehovah give to each his righteousness and his faithfulness. For Jehovah delivered you into my hand today, but I would not stretch forth my hand against Jehovah's anointed.

²³ For all His judgments were before me. And as for His statutes, I did not depart from them. ²⁴ I was also upright before Him, and have kept myself from my iniquity. ²⁵ And Jehovah rewarded me according to my righteousness, according to my cleanness in His eyes.

¹¹ Deliver those being taken to death, and those stumbling to be killed, unless you hold back. ¹² If you say, Behold, we did not know; does not He who searches the heart consider it? And the Keeper of your soul, does He know? And He repays to a man according to his works.

⁸ Open your mouth for the dumb, for the cause of all the sons of those passing away. ⁹ Open your mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.
