²³ And now be ye cursed, and there shall not cease to be of you servants and hewers of wood and drawers of water for the house of my God.

²⁵ And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren. ²⁶ And he said, Blessed be the Lord, the God of Shem; and Canaan shall be a servant unto them.

²⁸ But any devoted thing, which a man may devote unto the Lord of all that he hath, both of man and beast, and of the field of his possession, shall not be sold nor redeemed: every devoted thing is most holy unto the Lord. ²⁹ Any one condemned, who shall be condemned to death among men, shall not be redeemed: he shall be put to death.

²¹ And the princes said unto them, Let them live: and they became hewers of wood and drawers of water unto all the congregation, as the princes had spoken unto them.

²⁷ And Joshua appointed them on that day hewers of wood and drawers of water for the congregation, and for the altar of the Lord, even unto this day, for the place which he should choose.
