² Dost thou deem this to be just, that thou hast said, “My righteousness is more than God’s?”

¹⁷ He that bruiseth me with his tempest, and multiplieth my wounds without a cause.

⁷ Still it is within thy knowledge that I am not wicked, and there is none that can deliver me out of thy hand.

¹⁷ Not because any violence is in my hands, and while my prayer is pure.

⁶ Then know for certain that God hath bent me down, and hath laid his net all around me. ⁷ Behold, I cry out concerning the violence done me, but I am not answered: I entreat aloud, but there is no justice.

² As God liveth, who hath removed justice from me; and by the Almighty, who hath embittered my soul: ³ All the while my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils; ⁴ Shall my lips not speak any wrong, nor shall my tongue utter deceit. ⁵ Far be it from me that I should justify you; till I depart hence will I not allow any one to take my integrity away from me. ⁶ I have laid fast hold on my righteousness, and I will not let it go: my heart shall not reproach me for my conduct during all my life.

⁵ For Job hath said, “I am righteous; and God hath taken away justice from me.

⁸ Wilt thou indeed annul my decree? wilt thou condemn me, in order that thou mayest appear righteous?
