¹² This is my commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you.

³⁴ A new commandment I give you, that you love one another; just as I have loved you, that you also love one another.

¹⁰ Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honor preferring one another;

² And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and has given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet example.

¹² And may the LORD increase and enrich your love toward one another and toward all men, even as we love you:

⁹ Now concerning brotherly love, you do not need me to write to you for you yourselves are taught by God to love one another.

³ We are bound to give thanks to God always for you, my brethren, as it is appropriate to do, because your faith grows exceedingly, and the love of all of you for one another increases;

²² Let your souls be sanctified by obedience to the truth, and be filled with sincere love, so that you may love one another with pure and perfect hearts:

⁸ Finally, live in harmony, share the suffering of those who suffer, be affectionate one to another, and be kind and gentle:

⁸ And above all things have fervent charity towards one another: because charity covers a multitude of sins.

⁷ My beloved, I do not write a new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which you have already heard. ⁸ Again, a new commandment I do write to you, which thing is true in Him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shines. ⁹ He who says he is in the light but hates his brother, is therefore in darkness even until now. ¹⁰ He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for displeasure in him.

¹¹ For this is the commandment that you have heard from the beginning, that you must love one another, ¹² Not as Cain, who belonged to the wicked one and slew his brother. And why did he kill him? Because his own works were evil, and those of his brother were righteous. ¹³ So be not surprised, my brethren, if the world hates you. ¹⁴ We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love our brethren. He who does not love his brother abides in death. ¹⁵ Whosoever hates his brother is a murderer: and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. ¹⁶ By this we know his love for us, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for our brethren. ¹⁷ Whoever has worldly goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts his mercy from him, how can the love of God dwell in him? ¹⁸ My children, let us not love one another in word and in tongue, but in deed and in truth.

²³ And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he has commanded us.

²¹ And this commandment we have from him, That he who loves God loves his brother also.
