⁵⁷ And evening having come, a rich man from Arimathea (Joseph by name) who also himself was discipled to Jesus,

¹ And there was a certain man of Ramathaim-zophim from the hills of Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephrathite.

¹⁷ And he returned to Ramah, for his house was there. And there he judged Israel; and he built an altar to Jehovah there.

⁴² And it becoming evening already, since it was the preparation, that is, the day before sabbath, ⁴³ Joseph of Arimathea came, an honorable councillor, who himself was also waiting for the kingdom of God. And taking courage, he went in to Pilate and begged the body of Jesus. ⁴⁴ And Pilate marveled if He had already died. And calling the centurion near, he asked him if He died already. ⁴⁵ And knowing from the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph. ⁴⁶ And having bought a linen cloth, and having taken Him down, he wrapped Him in the linen, and laid Him in a tomb which was cut out of rock. And he rolled a stone against the mouth of the tomb. ⁴⁷ And Mary Magdalene, and Mary of Joses, saw where He was laid.

⁵⁰ And, behold, a man named Joseph, being a councillor, a good and righteous man. ⁵¹ This one was not assenting to their counsel and deed ( he was from Arimathea, a city of the Jews), and who himself was eagerly expecting the kingdom of God, ⁵² coming near to Pilate, this one asked for the body of Jesus. ⁵³ And taking it down, he wrapped it in linen, and placed it in a quarried tomb, where no one was ever yet laid. ⁵⁴ And it was Preparation Day, and a sabbath was coming on. ⁵⁵ And also women were following, who were accompanying Him out of Galilee, who watched the tomb, and how His body was placed. ⁵⁶ And returning, they prepared spices and ointment. And indeed they rested on the sabbath, according to the commandment.

³⁸ And after these things, Joseph from Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but concealed because of fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take the body of Jesus. And Pilate gave permission. Then he came and took the body of Jesus. ³⁹ And Nicodemus also came, the one coming at first to Jesus by night, bearing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred Roman pounds. ⁴⁰ Then they took the body of Jesus and bound it in linens, with the spices, as is usual with the Jews in burying. ⁴¹ And there was a garden in the place where He was crucified, and a new tomb in the garden, in which no one yet ever had been placed. ⁴² There, then, because of the Preparation of the Jews, because the tomb was near, they put Jesus.
