²³ and now turn away from the strange gods among you, and incline your heart to Jehovah the God of Israel.

² And Jacob said to his house, and to all those with him, Put away the strange gods in your midst, and purify yourselves, and change your clothing. ³ And let us rise up and go up to Bethel. And I will make an altar there to God, who answered me in the day of my distress. And He was with me in the way in which I went. ⁴ And they gave all the strange gods in their hand to Jacob, and the earrings which were in their ears. And Jacob hid them under the oak which was near Shechem.

²³ You shall not make gods of silver along with Me, and you shall not make gods of gold for yourselves.

¹⁴ Now, then, fear Jehovah, and serve Him in sincerity and truth, and turn away from the gods which your fathers served Beyond the River, and in Egypt; and you serve Jehovah.

¹⁵ And the sons of Israel said to Jehovah, We have sinned. Do to us whatever may be good in Your eyes; only please deliver us his day. ¹⁶ And they removed the gods of the alien from among them, and served Jehovah. And His soul was grieved with the misery of Israel.

³ And Samuel said to all the house of Israel, saying, If you are returning to Jehovah with all your heart, put aside the alien gods from among you, and the Ashtoreths. And prepare your heart to Jehovah, and serve Him only, and He will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines. ⁴ And the sons of Israel put away the Baals and the Ashtaroth, and served Jehovah only.

⁵⁸ to incline our heart to Himself, to walk in all His ways, and to keep His commands, and His statutes, and His judgments, which He commanded our fathers;

³⁶ Bow my heart to Your testimonies, and not to unjust gain.

⁴ Do not let my heart turn aside to any evil thing, to practice deeds in wickedness with men who do evil; and do not let me eat of their delicacies.

² so that you attend to wisdom, you shall extend your heart to understanding.

² Take words with you and return to Jehovah. Say to Him, Take away all iniquity and receive us well, that we may repay with the calves of our lips. ³ Assyria shall not save us; we will not ride on horses. We shall not say any more to the work of our hands, Our gods! For in You the fatherless finds mercy.

⁸ Ephraim shall say, What is to me any more with idols? I eyed him, and I surveyed him. I am as a green cypress tree; your fruit is found from Me.

¹⁹ What then do I say, that an idol is anything, or that an idolatrous sacrifice is anything? ²⁰ But the things the nations sacrifice, " they sacrifice to demons, and not to God." Deut. 32:17 But I do not want you to become sharers of demons; ²¹ you cannot drink the cup of the Lord and a cup of demons; you cannot partake of the table of the Lord, and a table of demons.

¹⁶ And what agreement does a temple of God have with idols? For you are a temple of the living God, even as God said, "I will" dwell in them and "walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be My people." Lev. 26:12; Ezek. 37:27 ¹⁷ Because of this, "come out from among them" "and be separated," says the Lord, "and do not touch the unclean thing," and I will receive you. Isa. 52:11 ¹⁸ "And I will be a Father to you, and you will be sons" and daughters to Me, says the Lord Almighty. 2 Sam. 7:8, 14; Isa. 43:6

²⁸ For this reason, receiving an unshakable kingdom, let us have grace, by which we may serve God pleasingly, with reverence and awe; ²⁹ for also, Our God is a consuming fire." Deut. 4:24
