¹⁶ And Zedekiah the king swore secretly to Jeremiah, saying, As Jehovah lives, who made us this soul, I will not put you to death, nor will I give you into the hand of these men who seek your life.

²² And they fell on their faces, and said, O God, God of the spirits of all flesh; shall one man sin, and will You be angry with all the congregation?

¹⁶ Let Jehovah, the God of the spirits of all flesh, appoint a man over the congregation

⁷ then the dust shall return to the earth as it was, and the spirit shall return to God who gave it.

⁵ So says Jehovah God, creating the heavens and stretching them out; spreading out the earth and its offspring, giving breath to the people on it, and spirit to those walking in it.

¹⁶ For I will not contend forever, nor will I always be angry, for the spirit would faint before Me, even the breaths I have made.

²⁰ I will even give them into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those seeking their life. And their dead bodies shall be for food to the birds of the heavens, and to the beasts of the earth.

¹⁷ And Zedekiah the king sent and took him out. And the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there word from Jehovah? And Jeremiah said, There is. For He said, You shall be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.

¹ And Shephatiah the son of Mattan, and Gedaliah the son of Pashur, and Jucal, the son of Shelemiah, and Pashur, the son of Melchiah, heard the words that Jeremiah had spoken to all the people, saying, ² So says Jehovah, He who remains in this city shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the plague. But he who goes forth to the Chaldeans shall live; and his life shall be a prize; and he shall live. ³ So says Jehovah, This city shall surely be given into the hand of the king of Babylon's army, and he shall capture it. ⁴ And the rulers said to the king, Please let this man be put to death. For in this way he weakens the hands of the men of war who remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking these words to them. For this man does not seek the peace of this people, but the evil. ⁵ And Zedekiah the king said, Behold, he is in your hand. For. the king cannot do anything against you. ⁶ And they took Jeremiah and threw him into the pit of Malchiah, the king's son, which was in the court of the guardhouse. And they let Jeremiah down with ropes. But no water was in the pit, only mud. So Jeremiah sank into the mud.

² This one came to Jesus by night and said to Him, Rabbi, we know that You have come as a teacher from God. For no one is able to do these miracles which You do, except God be with Him.

⁹ Furthermore, indeed we have had fathers of our flesh as correctors, and we respected them . Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits, and we shall live?
