¹⁶ Ephraim is stricken; their root is dried up; they shall bear no fruit. Yea, though they bear, yet I will kill the beloved ones of their womb.

²⁴ So, as the tongue of fire devours the stubble, and the flame burns up the chaff; their root shall be like rottenness, and their blossoms shall go up like dust, because they have cast away the law of Jehovah of Hosts; and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.

²⁴ Yea, they shall not be planted; yea, they are not sown; yea, their stem is not taking root in the earth. And He shall also blow on them, and they shall wither, and the tempest shall take them away like stubble.

²¹ Speak to the house of Israel, So says the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I will profane My sanctuary, the pride of your strength, the desire of your eyes, and that which your soul pities. And your sons and your daughters whom you have forsaken shall fall by the sword.

¹¹ Ephraim is oppressed, crushed in judgment; because he was pleased, he walked after the command.

⁷ For they sow the wind, and they reap the whirlwind. He has no stalk; the bud shall make no flour. If it does make it, strangers will swallow it up.

¹¹ Ephraim is like a bird; their glory shall fly away, from birth, and from the womb, and from conception. ¹² Though they nourish their sons, yet I will make them childless, without a man. Yea, woe also to them when I turn away from them! ¹³ As when I looked toward Tyre, Ephraim was planted in a pleasant place. But Ephraim shall bring forth his sons to the slayer.

¹ For, behold, the day is coming, burning like a fire pot; and all the proud and every doer of wickedness shall be chaff. And the coming day will set them ablaze, says Jehovah of hosts, which will not leave root or branches to them.
