¹⁴ And I progressed in Judaism beyond many contemporaries in my race, being much more a zealot of the traditions of my ancestors.

¹³ And the Lord says, Because this people draws near with its mouth, and they honor Me with its lip; but its heart is far from Me, and their fear of Me is taught by the command of men;

¹² I will reveal your righteousness and your works, and they will not benefit you.

¹⁴ but have walked after the stubbornness of their own heart, and after the Baals, which their fathers taught them;

² And it will be, if they say to you, Where shall we go? Then you will tell them, So says Jehovah, Those who are for death, go to death; and those for the sword, to the sword; and those for the famine, to the famine; and those for the captivity, to the captivity.

² Why do your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread. ³ But answering He said to them, Why do you also transgress the command of God on account of your tradition?

⁶ and in no way he honors his father or his mother. And you annulled the command of God on account of your tradition.

³ For the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they immerse the hands with the fist, holding the tradition of the elders. ⁴ And coming from the market, they do not eat without immersing. And there are many other things which they received to hold: dippings of cups, and of utensils, and of copper vessels, and couches. ⁵ Then the Pharisees and scribes questioned Him, Why do your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashed hands? ⁶ And answering, He said to them, Well did Isaiah prophesy concerning you, hypocrites; as it has been written: "This people honors Me with the lips, but their heart is far away from Me; ⁷ and in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men." Isa. 29:13 ⁸ For forsaking the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men: dippings of utensils and cups, and many other such like things you do. ⁹ And He said to them, Do you do well to set aside the commandment of God so that you may keep your tradition? ¹⁰ For Moses said, "Honor your father and your mother;" Ex. 20:12; Deut. 5:16 and, "The one speaking evil of father or mother, let him expire by death." Ex. 21:17 ¹¹ But you say, If a man says to his father or mother, Corban, (which is, A gift!) whatever you may profit by me. ¹² And you no longer allow him to do anything for his father or mother, ¹³ making the Word of God of no effect by your tradition which you delivered. And many such like things you do.

³ Indeed I am a man, a Jew having been born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but having been brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, having been trained according to the exactness of the ancestral law, being a zealous one of God, even as you all are today.

⁵ who before knew me from the first, if they will testify, that according to the most exact sect of our religion, I lived a Pharisee.

⁹ Indeed, I then thought to myself that I ought to do many things contrary to the name of Jesus the Nazarene.

⁴ Though I also might have trust in flesh; if any other thinks to trust in flesh, I more; ⁵ in circumcision, the eighth day, of the race of Israel, the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of the Hebrews; according to Law, a Pharisee; ⁶ according to zeal, persecuting the church; according to righteousness in Law, being blameless.

⁸ Watch that there not be one robbing you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the elements of the world, and not according to Christ.

⁸ whom having not seen, you love; in whom not yet seeing, but believing, you exult with unspeakable and having been glorified,
