⁴ And David's men said to him, Behold, the day of which Jehovah said to you, Behold, I will deliver your enemy into your hand, and you shall do to him as it is good in your eyes. But David rose up and quietly cut off the skirt of Saul's robe. ⁵ And it happened afterward, the heart of David struck him, because he had cut off Saul's skirt. ⁶ And he said to his men, Far be it from me, by Jehovah. I shall not do this thing to my lord, to the anointed of Jehovah, to put out my hand against him. For he is the anointed of Jehovah. ⁷ And David held back his men by words, and did not allow them to rise up against Saul. And Saul rose up from the cave, and went in the way.

¹³ As the proverb of the ancients says, Wickedness proceeds from the wicked. But my hand shall not be on you.

⁹ And David said to Abishai, Do not destroy him. For who shall put forth his hand against the anointed of Jehovah and be guiltless? ¹⁰ And David said, As Jehovah lives, except Jehovah strike him, or his day shall come and he dies, or he goes down and is devoured in battle, ¹¹ far be it from me, by Jehovah, from putting forth my hand against the anointed of Jehovah. And now, please take the spear at his head-place, and the jar of water, and we will go.

²⁸ And in the third year of Asa the king of Judah, Baasha killed him, and reigned in his place.

³⁰ And Hoshea the son of Elah conspired a conspiracy against Pekah the son of Remaliah, and struck him, and killed him, and reigned in his place, in the twentieth year of Jotham the son of Uzziah.

⁴ He plots evil on his bed; he sets himself on a way that is not good; he does not hate evil.

¹ Woe to the destroyer, and you not being destroyed; and to the betrayer, and they did not betray you! When you finish destroying, you will be destroyed; when you stop betraying, they will betray you.

¹ Woe to those plotting wickedness and preparing evil on their beds! In the light of the morning they practice it, because it is in the power of their hand.
