¹ And in those days it happened that the Philistines gathered their armies for warfare, to fight against Israel. And Achish said to David, You shall surely go out with me in the army, you and our men. ² And David said to Achish, By this you shall know that which your servant will do. And Achish said to David, Then I appoint you keeper of my head all the days. ³ And Samuel was dead. And all Israel had mourned for him, and buried him in Ramah, even in his city. And Saul had taken away the mediums and spiritists out of the land. ⁴ And the Philistines had gathered and had come in and camped in Shunem. And Saul gathered all Israel, and they camped in Gilboa. ⁵ And Saul saw the camp of the Philistines, and his heart trembled and he greatly feared. ⁶ And Saul asked of Jehovah, but Jehovah did not answer him, either by dreams, or by Urim, or by prophets. ⁷ And Saul said to his servants, Seek out for me a woman possessing a familiar spirit a medium, and I will go to her and inquire of her. And his servants said to him, Behold, a woman, a possessor of a familiar spirit, is in Endor. ⁸ And Saul disguised himself and put on other clothes. And he and two of the men with him went; and they came to the woman by night. And he said, I beg you, divine for me by the familiar spirit, calling up the dead, and bring up to me him whom I say to you. ⁹ And the woman said to him, Behold, you know that which Saul has done, that he has cut off those having familiar spirits, and the fortune-tellers, out of the land. And why are you laying a snare for my life, to kill me? ¹⁰ And Saul swore to her by Jehovah, saying, As Jehovah lives, no evil shall happen to you because of this thing. ¹¹ And the woman said, Whom shall I bring up to you? And he said, Bring up Samuel to me. ¹² And the woman saw Samuel, and cried out with a loud voice. And the woman spoke to Saul, saying, Why have you deceived me, for you are Saul? ¹³ And the king said to her, Do not be afraid. For what have you seen? And the woman said to Saul, I have seen a god coming up out of the earth. ¹⁴ And he said to her, What is his appearance? And she said, An old man is coming up, and he is covered with a robe. And Saul knew that he was Samuel. And he bowed his face to the earth, and prostrated himself. ¹⁵ And Samuel said to Saul, Why have you disturbed me, to bring me up. And Saul said, I am grievously distressed. And the Philistines are fighting against me, and God has turned from me and has not answered me any more, either by the hand of the prophets, or by dreams. And I called for you to make known to me what I should do. ¹⁶ And Samuel said, And why do you ask me, since Jehovah has departed from you and is your foe? ¹⁷ And Jehovah is doing for Himself as He spoke by my hand. And Jehovah is tearing the kingdom out of your hand, and is giving it to your neighbor, to David. ¹⁸ Because you did not listen to the voice of Jehovah, or execute His burning anger on Amalek, on this account Jehovah is doing this thing to you today. ¹⁹ Yea, Jehovah is also giving Israel into the hand of the Philistines along with you. And tomorrow you and your sons will be with me. And Jehovah will give the army of Israel into the hand of the Philistines. ²⁰ And Saul hurried and fell the full length of his stature to the earth, and greatly feared from the words of Samuel. And there was no power in him, for he had not eaten food all that day, and all the night. ²¹ And the woman came to Saul. And she saw that he was greatly distressed, and said to him, Behold, your servant has listened to your voice, and I put my life in my hand, and I obeyed your words which you spoke to me. ²² And now I beg you, you also listen to the voice of your servant, and I will set before you a bit of bread; and eat, and there will be strength in you when you go on your way. ²³ And he refused, and said, I will not eat. But his servants forced him, and the woman also. And he listened to their voices and rose from the earth and sat on the bed. ²⁴ And the woman had a fat calf in the house. And she hurried and slaughtered it, and took flour, and kneaded it, and baked unleavened cakes of it. ²⁵ And she brought it near before Saul, and before his servants. And they ate, and rose up, and went on during that night.

¹ And these are the nations which Jehovah left in order to test Israel by them, all who did not know all the wars of Canaan; ² only that the generations of the sons of Israel might know, to teach them war, only those who did not before know them: ³ five lords of the Philistines, and all the Canaanites, and the Sidonians, and the Hivites that lived in Mount Lebanon from Mount Baal-hermon to the entering of Hamath. ⁴ And they existed to test Israel by them, to know whether they would listen to the commands of Jehovah, which He had commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.

⁷ And the Philistines heard that the sons of Israel had gathered to Mizpah. And the rulers of the Philistines went up against Israel, and the sons of Israel heard, and were afraid before the Philistines.

⁵ And the Philistines gathered to fight with Israel, with thirty thousand chariots and six thousand horsemen, and people as the sand which is on the lip of the sea for multitude. And they came up and pitched in Michmash, east of Beth-aven.

¹ And the Philistines had gathered their armies for battle, and were gathered at Socoh of Judah. And they camped between Socoh and Azekah in Ephesdammim.

¹² And Achish trusted David, saying, Surely he has made himself to be hated among his people in Israel, and has become my servant forever.

¹ And the Philistines gathered all their armies to Aphek. And Israel was camped at a fountain in Jezreel. ² And the Philistine rulers were passing on by hundreds and by thousands. And David and his men were passing on in the rear with Achish. ³ And the Philistine rulers said, What are these Hebrews? And Achish said to the Philistine rulers, Is this not David the servant of Saul the king of Israel who has been with me these days and years? And I have not found anything evil in him from the day he fell away until today.

¹⁰ And Achish said, Did you not make raids today? And David said, Against the south of Judah, and against the south of the Jerahmeelites, and to the south of the Kenites.

¹⁶ And it happened, when Hushai the Archite, David's friend, had come to Absalom, Hushai said to Absalom, Let the king live! Let the king live! ¹⁷ And Absalom said to Hushai, Is this your kindness with your friend? Why have you not gone with your friend? ¹⁸ And Hushai said to Absalom, No, for he whom Jehovah and this people have chosen, even all the men of Israel, his I shall be, and I shall remain with him. ¹⁹ And a second time, Whom should I serve? Should I not serve before the face of his son. As I served before the face of your father, so shall I be before your face.

⁹ Let love be without dissimulation, shrinking from evil, cleaving to the good,

¹⁸ You shall not allow a sorceress to live.

³¹ You shall not turn to those having familiar spirits; and you shall not seek to spiritists to be defiled by them; I am Jehovah your God.

⁶ And the person who turns to those having familiar spirits, and to the spiritists, to go whoring after them, I shall set my face against that person, and cut him off from the midst of his people.

²⁷ And a man or woman, when there is among them a medium, or a familiar spirit, shall certainly be put to death; they shall stone them with stones; their blood is on them.

¹⁰ There shall not be found in you one who passes his son or his daughter through the fire, one that uses divination, an observer of clouds, or a fortuneteller, or a whisperer of spells, ¹¹ or a magic charmer, or one asking of familiar spirits, or a wizard, or one inquiring of the dead.

¹⁷ And he returned to Ramah, for his house was there. And there he judged Israel; and he built an altar to Jehovah there.

²³ For the sin of divination is rebellion; insolence is both iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of Jehovah, so He has rejected you from being king.

¹ And Samuel died, and all Israel was gathered, and mourned for him. And they buried him in his house, in Ramah. And David rose up and went down to the wilderness of Paran.

⁹ And the woman said to him, Behold, you know that which Saul has done, that he has cut off those having familiar spirits, and the fortune-tellers, out of the land. And why are you laying a snare for my life, to kill me?

¹ The righteous one perishes, and no one lays it to heart; yea, merciful men are gathered, with no one discerning that the righteous is gathered from the face of evil. ² He shall enter peace; they shall rest on their couches, walking in his uprightness.

¹⁶ And it happened, as we went into a place of prayer, a certain girl slave having a Pythonic spirit met us, whose divining brought much gain to her lords. ¹⁷ Following after Paul and us, she cried out, saying, These men are slaves of the Most High God, who are announcing to us a way of salvation! ¹⁸ And she did this over many days. But becoming distressed, and turning to the demonic spirit, Paul said, In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out from her! And it came out in that same hour. ¹⁹ And seeing that the hope of their gain went out, having seized Paul and Silas, her lords dragged them to the market before the rulers.

¹⁸ And their border was toward Jezreel, and Chesulloth, and Shunem,

¹ And the Philistines were fighting against Israel. And the men of Israel fled from the face of the Philistines, and they fell down wounded in Mount Gilboa.

⁶ And the youth who was telling him said, By chance I happened to be on Mount Gilboa. And behold, Saul was leaning on his spear. And, behold, the chariots and the masters of horses closely followed him!

²¹ Mountains of Gilboa, let not dew or rain be on you, nor fields of offerings; for there the shield of the mighty was vilely cast away, the shield of Saul, not being anointed with oil.

¹² And David went and took the bones of Saul, and the bones of his son Jonathan from the rulers of Jabesh-gilead, who had stolen them from the plaza of Beth-shan, there where the Philistines hanged them in the day the Philistines struck Saul in Gilboa.

⁸ And the day came that Elisha crossed over to Shunem. And a great woman was there. And she lay hold on him to eat bread. And it happened, as often as he passed by, he turned aside there to eat bread.

²¹ A dreadful sound of things is in his ears; the destroyer shall come on him in peace.

¹¹ Terrors frighten him on every side and shall dash him at his feet.

⁵ they saw, so they marveled; they were troubled and fled away. ⁶ Trembling and pain seized them there, like a woman in labor.

¹⁹ How they are destroyed in a moment, swept away with terrors!

²⁴ That which the wicked fears shall come upon him, but the desire of the righteous is granted.

² And the house of David was told, saying, Syria is allied with Ephraim, and his heart and the heart of his people shook, as the trees of the forest shake from the wind.

³ Because of this my loins are filled with pain; pangs have taken hold on me like the pangs of a travailing woman. I am bowed from hearing; I am troubled from seeing. ⁴ My heart wanders; terror overwhelms me; He has turned the twilight of my pleasure into trembling.

²⁰ But the wicked are like the driven sea, which cannot be quiet, and its waves cast up mire and dirt. ²¹ There is no peace to the wicked, says my God.

⁶ Then the king's color was changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his loins shook, and his knees knocked one against the other .

¹² And he dreamed. And, behold, a ladder was placed on the earth, its top reaching to the heavens. And, behold, the angels of God were going up and going down on it! ¹³ And, behold, Jehovah stood above it and said, I am Jehovah the God of your father Abraham, and the God of Isaac; the land on which you are lying, I will give it to you and to your seed. ¹⁴ And your seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and you shall spread to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south; and all the families of the earth shall be blessed in you and in your seed. ¹⁵ And, behold, I will be with you and will guard you in every place in which you may go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not forsake you until I have surely done that which I have spoken to you.

² And God said to Israel in visions of the night, and He spoke, Jacob! Jacob! And he answered, Behold me. ³ And He said, I am God, the God of your fathers. Do not fear to go down into Egypt, for I will make of you a great nation there. ⁴ I will go down with you into Egypt, and I will also surely return you. And Joseph shall put his hand on your eyes.

²⁰ And the fourth row: chrysolite, onyx and jasper. They shall be plaited with gold in their settings.

³⁰ And you shall put the Urim and the Thummim into the breast pocket of judgment; and they shall be on the heart of Aaron in his going before the face of Jehovah. And Aaron shall bear the judgment of the sons of Israel on his heart before the face of Jehovah continually.

⁶ And He said, Now hear My words, If your prophet is of Jehovah, I shall make Myself known to him in an appearance; I will speak to him in a dream.

²¹ And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall ask for him according to the judgment of the Urim before Jehovah. At his mouth they shall go out, and at his mouth they shall come in, he and all the sons of Israel with him, even all the congregation.

⁸ And of Levi he said, Your Thummim and your Urim are for your devout man whom You tested at Massah; You contended with him at the Waters of Strife;

³⁷ And Saul asked of God, Shall I go down after the Philistines? Will You give them into the hand of Israel? But He did not answer him on that day.

¹³ And Saul died because of his trespass that he trespassed against Jehovah, against the word of Jehovah that he did not keep, and also for asking of a medium, to inquire; ¹⁴ and did not inquire of Jehovah. Then He killed him, and turned the kingdom to David the son of Jesse.

¹⁴ For in one way God may speak, and in a second, but one does not notice it. ¹⁵ In a dream, a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men; while they slumber on the bed, ¹⁶ then He opens the ear of men and seals their instruction,

⁹ We did not see our signs; there is no longer a prophet; nor any among us who knows until when.

¹ The Proverbs of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel: ² To know wisdom and instruction; to understand the words of understanding; ³ to receive instruction in prudence, justice, and judgment, and uprightness; ⁴ to give sense to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the young man. ⁵ The wise hears and increases learning, and the understanding ones gets wise counsel, ⁶ to understand a proverb and an enigma; the words of the wise, and their acute sayings. ⁷ The fear of Jehovah is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction. ⁸ My son, hear your father's instruction, and do not forsake the teaching of your mother; ⁹ for they shall be an ornament of grace to your head, and chains for your neck. ¹⁰ My son, if sinners lure you, do not be willing. ¹¹ If they say, Walk with us, let us lie in wait for blood, let us secretly lurk for the innocent without cause, ¹² let us swallow them up alive as Sheol; and whole, as those who go down into the Pit, ¹³ we shall find all precious goods; we shall fill our houses with plunder; ¹⁴ cast in your lot among us; one purse shall be to all of us. ¹⁵ My son, do not walk in the way with them! Hold back your foot from their path; ¹⁶ for their feet run to evil and they haste to shed blood. ¹⁷ For in vain the net is spread in the sight of every bird. ¹⁸ And they lie in wait for their own blood; they lurk secretly for their own souls. ¹⁹ So are the ways of everyone who gets unjust gain; it takes away its owner's soul. ²⁰ Wisdom cries aloud outside; she gives her voice in the square; ²¹ she calls at the head of gathering places; in the opening of the gates, in the city she utters her words: ²² How long will you love to be simple, you simple ones? And will scorners desire scorn for themselves? And will fools hate knowledge? ²³ Turn back at my warning; behold, I will pour out my Spirit to you; I will make my words known to you. ²⁴ Because I called, and you refused; I stretch out a hand, and none inclines, ²⁵ but you have ignored all my counsel, and you did not desire my warning. ²⁶ I also will laugh in your calamity, I will mock when your dread comes; ²⁷ when your dread comes like a storm; and your calamity arrives like a tempest, when distress and constraint come on you. ²⁸ Then they shall call on me, and I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me. ²⁹ Instead they hated knowledge and chose not the fear of Jehovah. ³⁰ They did not want my counsel; they despised all my reproof, ³¹ and they shall eat of the fruit of their own way and be filled with their own lusts. ³² For the going astray of the simple kills them, and the ease of fools destroys them. ³³ But he who listens to me shall live securely and shall be at ease from the dread of evil.

¹ Do not boast in the day of tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth. ² Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; let it be a stranger, and not your own lips. ³ A stone is heavy, and sand a burden, but a fool's anger is heavier than both. ⁴ Fury is fierce, and anger overflows, but who can stand before jealousy? ⁵ Better is revealed reproof than secret love. ⁶ Faithful are the wounds of a lover, and the kisses of a hated one are plentiful. ⁷ One who is full tramples a honeycomb, but to a hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet. ⁸ A man wandering from his place is like a bird that wanders from the nest. ⁹ Ointment and perfume give joy to the heart, and one's friend is sweet from the counsel of the soul. ¹⁰ Do not forsake your friend, nor your father's friend, and do not go into your brother's house in the day of your calamity, for a near neighbor is better than a brother far away. ¹¹ My son, become wise and give joy to my heart, so that I may return a word to him that taunts me. ¹² A sensible man sees the evil and hides himself; the simple go on and are punished. ¹³ Take the garment of him who is surety for a stranger, and hold him in pledge who is surety for a strange woman. ¹⁴ He who rises early in the morning and blesses his friend with a loud voice, it is counted as cursing to him. ¹⁵ Drops that never cease on a rainy day, and a contentious woman are alike; ¹⁶ he who hides her hides the wind, and his right hand encounters slippery oil. ¹⁷ Iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens his friend's face. ¹⁸ The keeper of the fig tree eats its fruit, so he keeping his master is honored. ¹⁹ As face reflects face in the water, so the heart of man reflects a man. ²⁰ Sheol and destruction are never satisfied, so the eyes of man are never satisfied. ²¹ The refining pot tries silver, and the furnace tries gold, but a man is tried by the mouth of his praise. ²² If you pound a fool in the mortar with a pestle amidst grain, his foolishness will not turn away from him. ²³ Know well the face of your flock; set your heart on your herds, ²⁴ for wealth is not forever, nor the crown from generation to generation. ²⁵ When the hay is removed, and the tender grass is seen, and the mountain plants are taken up, ²⁶ The lambs will be for your clothing, and the he goats the price for a field, ²⁷ and there will be goat's milk enough for your food, for the food of your household, and for the life of your maidens.

¹ The wicked flee though no one is pursuing, but the righteous are as bold as a lion. ² Because of transgression in a land, many are its rulers, but it is prolonged by a man who has understanding, who knows right . ³ A poor man that oppresses the weak is like a sweeping rain that leaves no food. ⁴ Those who forsake the law praise the wicked, but those who keep the law strive with them. ⁵ Evil men do not understand justice, but those seeking Jehovah understand all. ⁶ Better is the poor walking in his integrity than the perverse of two ways, even if he is rich. ⁷ He who keeps the law is a wise son, but he who is a feeder of gluttons shames his father. ⁸ He who multiplies his wealth by interest and usury, he shall gather it for him who pities the weak. ⁹ Whoever turns aside his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination. ¹⁰ He who causes the upright to go astray in an evil way shall fall into his own pit, and the blameless shall inherit good. ¹¹ A rich man is wise in his own eyes, but the discerning poor searches him out. ¹² When the righteous rejoice, great is the glory, but when the wicked rise, a man will be sought for. ¹³ He who covers his sins never prospers, but he who confesses and forsakes them shall have pity. ¹⁴ Oh the happiness of a man who is awed by God constantly! But he who hardens his heart falls into evil. ¹⁵ The wicked ruler is a roaring lion and a ranging bear over a helpless people. ¹⁶ The ruler that lacks understanding even adds oppressions, but he who hates unjust gain prolongs his days. ¹⁷ Any man oppressed with the blood of a soul shall flee to the pit; let them not uphold him. ¹⁸ He who walks uprightly shall be saved, but he who is perverse in his ways shall fall at once. ¹⁹ He who cultivates his ground shall have plenty of bread, but one pursuing vanities shall have much poverty. ²⁰ A faithful man shall be full of blessings, but he rushing to be rich shall not be innocent. ²¹ To respect faces is not good, yea, for a man will transgress for a piece of bread. ²² A man with an evil eye hastens after wealth, but he does not know that poverty will come on him. ²³ He who reproves a man afterwards finds grace, more than he who flatters with the tongue. ²⁴ He who robs his father or his mother, and says, It is not a transgression, he shall be a companion to a destroyer. ²⁵ The proud in soul stirs up strife, but he who is trusting on Jehovah shall be abundantly satisfied. ²⁶ He who trusts in his own heart is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom shall be delivered. ²⁷ He who gives to the poor shall not lack, but he who hides his eyes shall have plenty of curses. ²⁸ When the wicked rise, a man hides himself; but when they perish, the righteous multiply.

²⁸ The prophet who has a dream, let him tell a dream. And he who has My word, let him speak My word faithfully. What has the straw to do with the grain, says Jehovah?

⁹ Her gates have sunk in the ground; He has dispersed and shattered her bars. Her kings and her rulers are among the nations. The law is not. Also her prophets have not found a vision from Jehovah.

¹ And it was in the seventh year, in the fifth month, the tenth of the month, men came from the elders of Israel to inquire of Jehovah, and sat before me. ² And the word of Jehovah was to me, saying, ³ Son of man, speak to the elders of Israel and say to them, So says the Lord Jehovah: Have you come to inquire of Me? As I live, declares the Lord Jehovah, I will not be inquired of by you.

²⁰ And as he was thinking about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord was seen by him in a dream, saying, Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For that in her is fathered by the Holy Spirit.

³¹ But we know that God does not hear sinful ones, but if anyone is God fearing, and does His will, He hears that one.

³ You ask, and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, in order that you may spend on your lusts.

¹¹ or a magic charmer, or one asking of familiar spirits, or a wizard, or one inquiring of the dead.

¹¹ And Manasseh had in Issachar and in Asher, Beth-shean and its daughter-villages, and Ibleam and its daughter-villages, and the inhabitants of Dor and its daughter-villages, and the inhabitants of Endor and its daughter-villages, and the inhabitants of Taanach and its daughter-villages, and the inhabitants of Megiddo and its daughter-villages; three regions.

³ And Samuel was dead. And all Israel had mourned for him, and buried him in Ramah, even in his city. And Saul had taken away the mediums and spiritists out of the land.

² And Ahaziah fell through the lattice in his upper room in Samaria, and was sick. And he sent messengers and said to them, Go, ask of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron if I will recover from this sickness. ³ And an angel of Jehovah spoke to Elijah the Tishbite, Rise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say to them, Is it because there is not a God in Israel that you are going to ask of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron?

³³ While he was speaking with them, then, behold, the messenger came down to him. And he said, Behold, this is the evil from Jehovah. Why should I wait for Jehovah any more?

¹³ And Saul died because of his trespass that he trespassed against Jehovah, against the word of Jehovah that he did not keep, and also for asking of a medium, to inquire;

¹⁰ At Endor they were destroyed; they became dung for the ground.

¹⁹ And when they say to you, Seek to the mediums, and to wizards who peep and mutter; should not a people seek to its God, than for the living to seek to the dead? ²⁰ To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no dawn to them!

³ And the spirit of the Egyptians shall be empty in its midst; and I will swallow its counsel. And they shall seek to idols, and to the enchanters, and to the mediums, and to the knowing ones.

²⁵ Jehovah is good to those waiting on Him, to the soul seeking Him. ²⁶ It is good that a man hopes for the salvation of Jehovah, even in silence.

³ For the vision is still for the appointed time, but it breathes to the end, and it does not lie. Though it delays, wait for it, because it will surely come; it will not tarry.

² And Jeroboam said to his wife, Please rise up and disguise yourself, that you may not be known to be the wife of Jeroboam. And you shall go to Shiloh. Behold, Ahijah the prophet is there. ³⁰ And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, I will disguise myself and enter into the battle. But you put on your robes. And the king of Israel disguised himself and went into the battle.

³⁴ And a man drew a bow in his simplicity, and he struck the king of Israel between the joints and the breastplate. And he said to his charioteer, Turn your hand and take me out from the battle, for I have been wounded.

²⁹ And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, I will disguise myself, and go into battle; and you put on your robes. And the king of Israel disguised himself. And they went into battle.

²² Josiah would not turn his face from him, but disguised himself to fight against him, and did not listen to the words of Necho from the mouth of God; and came to fight in the valley of Megiddo.

¹³ They are among rebellers against light; they do not recognize His ways, nor do they stay in His paths. ¹⁴ The murderer rising with the light kills the poor and needy, and in the night he is a thief. ¹⁵ And the adulterer's eye keeps watch for twilight, saying, No eye will see me; and he puts a covering on his face.

¹⁹ And when they say to you, Seek to the mediums, and to wizards who peep and mutter; should not a people seek to its God, than for the living to seek to the dead?

²⁴ Or can anyone hide himself in secret places so that I do not see him, says Jehovah? Do I not fill the heavens and the earth, says Jehovah?

¹⁹ And this is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness more than the Light, for their works were evil.

¹³ Or I would have dealt falsely against my soul. For no matter is hidden from the king, and you, you yourself would have set against me.

⁷ And it happened, when the king of Israel read the letter, he tore his garments and said, Am I God, to kill and to keep alive, that this one is sending to me to recover a man from his leprosy? For consider now, and see for he is coiling himself toward me.

⁵ for God knows that in the day you eat of it, your eyes shall be opened, and you shall be as God, knowing good and evil.

⁷ You shall not take the name of Jehovah your God in vain; for Jehovah will not leave unpunished the one who takes His name in vain.

¹⁰ There shall not be found in you one who passes his son or his daughter through the fire, one that uses divination, an observer of clouds, or a fortuneteller, or a whisperer of spells, ¹¹ or a magic charmer, or one asking of familiar spirits, or a wizard, or one inquiring of the dead. ¹² For all doing these things are an abomination to Jehovah. And because of these filthy acts Jehovah your God is expelling these nations before you.

³⁹ For as Jehovah lives, who delivers Israel, surely if it is my son Jonathan, he shall certainly die. And no one answered him from all the people.

⁶ And Saul listened to Jonathan's voice, and Saul swore, As Jehovah lives he shall not die.

¹¹ And she said, Please let the king remember Jehovah your God, that the redeemer of blood not destroy any more, and that they may not destroy my son. And he said, As Jehovah lives, not one hair of your son shall fall to the earth.

⁷² And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man.

²³ And he swore to her, Whatever you ask me, I will give to you, up to half of my kingdom.

⁵ And Jehovah said to Ahijah, Behold, the wife of Jeroboam is coming to ask a thing of you for her son, for he is sick. You shall say this and this to her, and it shall be when she comes in, she will act as a foreigner.

¹⁶ And he shall speak for you to the people. And it shall be, he shall be a mouth for you, and you shall be a god for him.

²⁸ You shall not revile God, and you shall not curse a ruler among your people.

⁶ I have said, You are gods, and all of you are sons of the Most High. ⁷ But you shall die as men, and fall like one of the rulers.

³⁴ Jesus answered them, Has it not been written in your Law, "I said, you are gods"? Psa. 82:6 ³⁵ If He called those gods with whom the Word of God was, and the Scripture cannot be broken,

²⁷ And Samuel turned around to go. And he took hold on the skirt of his robe, and it tore.

⁸ And David rose up afterward and went out from the cave, and called after Saul, saying, My lord the king! And Saul looked behind him. And David was bowing, face to the earth, and prostrated himself.

⁸ And Elijah took his mantle, and rolled it up, and struck the waters. And they were divided here and there, so that they both went over on dry ground.

¹³ And he lifted up the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and turned back and stood on the lip of the Jordan. ¹⁴ And he took Elijah's mantle that had fallen from him, and struck the waters, and said, Where is Jehovah the God of Elijah, even He? And he struck the waters; and they were split in two here and there, and Elisha crossed over.

²⁰ And she said, Samson, the Philistines are upon you! And He awakened from his sleep, and said, I will go out and shake myself free as time after time. But he did not know that Jehovah had departed from him.

¹³ And Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. And the Spirit of Jehovah came upon David from that day and onward. And Samuel rose up and went to Ramah. ¹⁴ And the Spirit of Jehovah departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from Jehovah terrified him.

¹² And Saul feared David, because Jehovah was with him, and had departed from Saul.

² And David asked of Jehovah, saying, Shall I go? And shall I strike against these Philistines? And Jehovah said to David, Go, and you shall strike the Philistines and save Keilah.

⁴ And David once again inquired of Jehovah. And Jehovah answered him and said, Rise up, go down to Keilah, for I have given the Philistines into your hand.

⁹ But David knew that Saul was devising evil against him. And he said to Abiathar the priest, Bring the ephod near. ¹⁰ And David said, O Jehovah the God of Israel, Your servant has surely heard that Saul seeks to come to Keilah to destroy the city because of me.

⁶ And Saul asked of Jehovah, but Jehovah did not answer him, either by dreams, or by Urim, or by prophets.

⁸ And Saul disguised himself and put on other clothes. And he and two of the men with him went; and they came to the woman by night. And he said, I beg you, divine for me by the familiar spirit, calling up the dead, and bring up to me him whom I say to you.

¹¹ And the woman said, Whom shall I bring up to you? And he said, Bring up Samuel to me.

¹¹ Do not cast me out from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.

¹¹ and you moan when your end comes, when your flesh and muscle are eaten away; ¹² and say, How I have hated instruction, and my heart despised correction; ¹³ and I have not bowed to the voice of my teachers, nor bowed my ears to those instructing me.

¹⁴ The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways, but a good man from himself.

¹⁷ Have you not done this to yourself by your forsaking Jehovah your God when He led you by the way? ¹⁸ And now what is for you toward the way of Egypt, to drink the waters of Sihor? Or what for you toward Assyria, to drink the waters of the River?

¹² Though they nourish their sons, yet I will make them childless, without a man. Yea, woe also to them when I turn away from them!

⁴¹ Then He will also say to those on His left, Go away from Me, cursed ones, into the everlasting fire having been prepared for the Devil and his angels.

²³ And being in torments in Hell, lifting up his eyes, he sees Abraham afar off and Lazarus in his bosoms. ²⁴ And calling he said, Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am suffering in this flame. ²⁵ But Abraham said, Child, remember that you fully received your good things in your lifetime, and Lazarus likewise the bad things. But now he is comforted, and you are suffering. ²⁶ And besides all these things, a great chasm has been fixed between us and you, so that those desiring to pass from here to you are not able, nor can they pass from there to us.

³¹ So all Your enemies shall perish, O Jehovah, and those who love Him shall be as the sun when it goes forth in its might. And the land had rest forty years.

²⁷ And he said, If Jehovah does not save you, from where shall I save you? Out of the threshing floor, or out of the winevat?

God rises up and His enemies are scattered; and those who hate Him flee from His face. ² As smoke is driven away, You drive them away; as wax melts before the fire, the wicked perish in God's presence. ³ But the righteous are glad; they shout for joy before God; yea, they exult with gladness.

⁵ The Lord was like an enemy; He swallowed up Israel; He swallowed up all his palaces and destroyed his strongholds; and He increased mourning and weeping in the daughter of Judah.

²⁰ Rejoice over her, Heaven, and the holy apostles, and the prophets, because God judged your judgment on her.

²⁴ And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all the ones having been slain on the earth.

¹³ And Samuel said to Saul, You have acted foolishly that you have not kept the command of Jehovah your God which He commanded you. For now Jehovah would have established your kingdom over Israel forever. ¹⁴ But now your kingdom shall not stand. Jehovah has sought out for Himself a man according to His own heart, and Jehovah has appointed him as leader over His people. For you have not kept that which Jehovah commanded you.

²⁷ And Samuel turned around to go. And he took hold on the skirt of his robe, and it tore. ²⁸ And Samuel said to him, Jehovah has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today, and has given it to your neighbor who is better than you. ²⁹ And also the Glory of Israel will not lie nor repent, for He is not a man that He should repent.

¹³ And Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. And the Spirit of Jehovah came upon David from that day and onward. And Samuel rose up and went to Ramah.

²⁰ And now, behold, I know that you shall certainly reign, and the kingdom of Israel shall be established in your hand.

⁴ Jehovah has made all for His purpose, yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.

⁹ And Saul said, Bring near to me the burnt offering and the peace offerings. And he offered up the burnt offering.

⁹ And Saul and the people had pity on Agag, and on the best of the flock, and of the herd, and the seconds, and the lambs, and all that was good, and were not willing to exterminate them. But they exterminated everything of no account and feeble.

²⁰ And Saul said to Samuel, I did obey the voice of Jehovah, and I went in the way which Jehovah sent me, and brought Agag the king of Amalek, and I exterminated Amalek.

²³ For the sin of divination is rebellion; insolence is both iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of Jehovah, so He has rejected you from being king. ²⁴ And Saul said to Samuel, I have sinned, for I have transgressed the mouth of Jehovah and your word, because I feared the people, and I listened to their voice. ²⁵ And now please lift up my sin, and return with me that I may worship Jehovah. ²⁶ And Samuel said to Saul, I will not return with you, for you have rejected the word of Jehovah and Jehovah has rejected you from being king over Israel.

⁴² And he said to him, So says Jehovah, Because you have sent away the man I had devoted from your hand, therefore your life shall go for his life, and your people for his people.

²¹ You have done these things, and I have kept silence; you thought that surely I would be like you; but I will rebuke you and set in order before your eyes. ²² Now think of this, you who forget God, lest I tear, and not any to deliver:

¹⁰ Cursed is he who does the work of Jehovah deceitfully, and cursed is he who keeps back his sword from blood.

¹⁸ Behold! I will rain very grievous hail about this time tomorrow, such as has never been in Egypt from the day of its foundation until now.

²⁵ But if you still do evilly, both you and your king will be swept away.

¹ And the Philistines were fighting against Israel. And the men of Israel fled from the face of the Philistines, and they fell down wounded in Mount Gilboa. ² And the Philistines followed Saul and his sons. And the Philistines struck Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, Saul's sons. ³ And the battle went hard against Saul. And the archers, men with the bow, found him and he was sorely wounded by the archers. ⁴ And Saul said to his armorbearer, Draw your sword and thrust it through me, lest come these uncircumcised ones and thrust it through me and abuse me. But his armorbearer would not, for he was greatly afraid. So Saul took the sword and fell on it. ⁵ And his armorbearer saw that Saul was dead, and he also fell on his sword and died with him. ⁶ And Saul and three of his sons, and his armor-bearer, and all his men died together on that day.

²⁰ And Jehovah said, Who shall entice Ahab, and he shall go up and fall in Ramoth-gilead? And this one said this, and this one said that.

²⁸ And Micaiah said, If you at all return in peace, Jehovah has not spoken by me. And he said, Hear, O people, all of them.

¹⁶ So Jehovah says this, Behold, I send you away from the face of the earth. You shall die this year, because you have spoken apostasy against Jehovah. ¹⁷ And Hananiah died the same year in the seventh month.

²⁵ And this is the writing that was written: A MINA, A MINA, A SHEKEL, AND HALF MINAS. ²⁶ This is the meaning of the thing: A MINA: God has numbered your kingdom and finished it. ²⁷ A SHEKEL: You are weighed in the balances and found lacking. ²⁸ HALF MINAS: Your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians.

²⁴ Indeed, the Son of man goes, as it has been written about Him. But woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed. It were good for him if that man was never born.

⁵ And hearing these words, Ananias fell down and expired. And great fear came on all those hearing these things.

⁹ And Peter said to her, Why was it that it was agreed with you to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of those burying your husband at the door! Yea, they will carry you out. ¹⁰ And she immediately fell at his feet and expired. And entering, the younger ones found her dead, and carrying her out, they buried her beside her husband.

³⁷ And it happened in the morning, when the wine had gone out of Nabal, his wife told him these things. And his heart died within him, and he became like a stone.

⁵ And Saul saw the camp of the Philistines, and his heart trembled and he greatly feared.

²⁰ All the days of the wicked he is laboring in pain; a number of years are stored up for the ruthless. ²¹ A dreadful sound of things is in his ears; the destroyer shall come on him in peace. ²² He does not believe in a return from darkness, but he is awaited by the sword. ²³ He is wandering, for he seeks for bread. Where is it ? He knows that the day of darkness is at his hand. ²⁴ Distress and pain terrify him; they shall overpower him, as a king ready for the attack;

² How have you helped the powerless, or saved the arm with no strength?

³ And seeing that you did not save us, I put my life in my hand and passed over against the Ammonites, and Jehovah delivered them into my hand. And why have you come up to me today to fight with me?

⁵ Yea, he has put his life in his hand and killed the Philistine And Jehovah worked a great deliverance for all Israel. You saw it and rejoiced. And why do you sin against innocent blood, to put David to death for no reason?

¹⁴ Why do I take my flesh in my teeth and put my life in my hand?

⁴ And Ahab came into his house sullen and angry over the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken. For he had said, I will not give the inheritance of my fathers to you. And he lay on his bed and turned away his face, and would not eat food.

¹³ And his servants came near and spoke to him, and said, My father, if the prophet had spoken a great thing to you would you not do it ? How much rather then when he says to you, Wash, and be clean?

²⁰ As he who takes away a garment in cold weather, and as vinegar on soda, so is he who sings songs on an evil heart.

²³ And the lord said to the slave, Go out into the highways and hedges and compel them to come in, so that my house may be filled.

²⁹ And they constrained Him, saying, Stay with us, for it is toward evening, and the day has declined. And He went in to stay with them.

¹⁵ And as she and her household were baptized, she entreated Paul, saying, If you have judged me to be believing in the Lord, entering into my house, remain. And she strongly urged us.

¹⁴ For the love of Christ constrains us, having judged this, that if One died for all, then the all died;

⁷ And Abraham ran to the herd and brought a son of the herd, tender and good, and gave it to a youth. And he hurried to prepare it . ⁸ And he took curds and milk and the son of the herd which he had prepared, and he set before them. And he stood by them under the tree. And they ate.

²³ And bring the fattened calf, slaughter and let us eat and be merry;
