¹ Now at the same time some had come to tell him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices. ² And he answered and* said to them, "Do you think that these Galileans were sinners worse than all the Galileans, because they suffered these things? ³ No, I tell you, but unless you repent you will all perish as well! ⁴ Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them—do you think that they were sinners worse than all the people who live in Jerusalem? ⁵ No, I tell you, but unless you repent, you will all perish as well!" ⁶ And he told this parable: "A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came looking for fruit on it and did not find any.* ⁷ So he said to the gardener, 'Behold, _⌊for three years_⌋* I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree and did not find any.* Cut it down!* Why should it even exhaust the soil?' ⁸ But he answered and* said to him, 'Sir, leave it alone this year also, until I dig around it and put manure on it.* ⁹ And if indeed it produces fruit in the coming year, so much the better,* but if not, you can cut it down.'" ¹⁰ Now he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. ¹¹ And behold, a woman was there* who had a spirit _⌊that had disabled her_⌋* for eighteen years, and she was bent over and not able to straighten herself up completely.* ¹² And when he* saw her, Jesus summoned her* and said to her, "Woman, you are freed from your disability!" ¹³ And he placed his* hands on her, and immediately she straightened up and glorified God. ¹⁴ But the ruler of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, answered and* said to the crowd, "There are six days on which it is necessary to work. Therefore come and* be healed on them, and not on the day of the Sabbath!" ¹⁵ But the Lord answered and said to him, "Hypocrites! Does not each one of you untie his ox or his* donkey from the feeding trough on the Sabbath and lead it* away to water it?* ¹⁶ And this woman, who is a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan bound _⌊eighteen_⌋* long years—is it not necessary that she be released from this bond on the day of the Sabbath?" ¹⁷ And when* he said these things, all those who opposed him were humiliated, and the whole crowd was rejoicing at all the splendid things that were being done by him. ¹⁸ Therefore he said, "What is the kingdom of God like, and to what shall I compare it? ¹⁹ It is like a mustard seed that a man took and* sowed in his own garden, and it grew and became a tree, and the birds of the sky nested in its branches." ²⁰ And again he said, "To what shall I compare the kingdom of God? ²¹ It is like yeast that a woman took and* hid in* three measures of wheat flour until the whole batch was leavened." ²² And he was going throughout towns and villages, teaching and making his journey toward Jerusalem. ²³ And someone said to him, "Lord, _⌊are there only_⌋* a few who are saved?" And he said to them, ²⁴ "Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able to, ²⁵ when once the master of the house has gotten up and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock on the door, saying, 'Lord, open the door* for us!' And he will answer and* say to you, 'I do not know where you are from!' ²⁶ Then you will begin to say, 'We ate and drank in your presence, and you taught in our streets!' ²⁷ And he will reply, saying to you, 'I do not know where you are from! Go away from me, all you _⌊evildoers_⌋!'* ²⁸ In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but yourselves thrown outside! ²⁹ And they will come from east and west, and from north and south, and will recline at the table in the kingdom of God. ³⁰ And behold, some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last." ³¹ At that same hour some Pharisees came up and* said to him, "Go out and depart from here, because Herod wants to kill you!" ³² And he said to them, "Go and* tell that fox, 'Behold, I am expelling demons and performing healings today and tomorrow, and on the third day I will complete my work.'* ³³ Nevertheless, it is necessary for me to be on the way today and tomorrow and on the next day, because it is not possible for a prophet to perish outside Jerusalem. ³⁴ "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How many times I wanted to gather your children together _⌊the way_⌋* a hen gathers* her own brood under her* wings, and you were not willing! ³⁵ Behold, your house has been left to you! And I tell you, you will never see me until the time* will come when you say, 'Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!'"*

²⁰ See, Yahweh, and take note! With whom have you dealt thus? Should women eat their young children of tender care? Should priest and prophet be slain in the sanctuary of the Lord?

⁵ And to the others he said in my hearing, "Go through the city behind him and kill! Your eyes shall not take pity, and you shall not have compassion. ⁶ You must kill _⌊totally_⌋* old man, young man and young woman, and little children and women, but _⌊concerning_⌋* every man _⌊with the mark on him_⌋* you must not approach; and from my sanctuary you must begin." And they began with the old men who _⌊were before_⌋* the house.* ⁷ And he said to them, "Defile the house* and fill the courtyards with the dead; go out! And they went out, and they killed in the city.

² And after* tying him up, they led him* away and handed him* over to Pilate the governor.

³⁷ After this man, Judas the Galilean rose up in the days of the census and _⌊caused people to follow him in revolt_⌋.* And that one perished, and all who followed him were scattered.

¹⁷ For it is the time for the judgment to begin out from the household of God. But if it begins out from us first, what will be the outcome for those who are disobedient to the gospel of God? ¹⁸ And if the righteous are saved with difficulty, _⌊what will become of the ungodly and the sinner_⌋*?*

⁵ Is not your wickedness great, and there is no end to your iniquities? ⁶ "Indeed, you have required a pledge from your family for nothing, and you have stripped off the clothes of the naked. ⁷ You have given no water for the weary to drink, and you withheld food from the hungry. ⁸ And the land _⌊belongs to the man of power_⌋,* and _⌊the favored_⌋* lives in it. ⁹ You have sent widows away empty-handed, and the arms of orphans were crushed. ¹⁰ Therefore trapping nets are all around you, and panic suddenly terrifies you, ¹¹ or it is so dark you cannot see, and a flood of water covers you. ¹² "Is not God in the height of the heavens? But* see how lofty are _⌊the highest stars_⌋.* ¹³ And you ask, 'What does God know? Can he judge through deep gloom? ¹⁴ Thick clouds are a covering for him, so that he does not see; and he walks about on the dome of heaven.' ¹⁵ Will you keep to the way of old that the people of mischief have trod, ¹⁶ who were snatched away _⌊before their time_⌋,* whose foundation was washed away by a current?

⁴ Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them—do you think that they were sinners worse than all the people who live in Jerusalem?

² And his disciples asked him, saying, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he should be born blind?"

⁴ And when the local people saw the creature hanging from his hand, they began saying* to one another, "Doubtless this man is a murderer whom, although he* was rescued from the sea, Justice* has not permitted to live!"

² and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near!"

¹⁰ Already now the ax is positioned at the root of the trees; therefore every tree not producing good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. ¹¹ I baptize you with water for repentance, but the one who comes after me is more powerful than I am, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. ¹² His winnowing shovel is in his hand, and he will clean out his threshing floor and will gather his wheat into the storehouse, but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire."

⁴⁵ Then it goes and brings along with itself seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they go in and* live there. And the last state of that person becomes worse than the first. So it will be for this evil generation also!"

⁷ And the king was angry and sent his troops and* destroyed those murderers and burned their city.

³⁵ so that upon you will come all the righteous blood shed on the earth from the blood of righteous Abel up to the blood of Zechariah son of Barachiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Truly I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation! ³⁷ "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How many times I wanted to gather your children together _⌊the way_⌋* a hen gathers her young together under her* wings, and you were not willing! ³⁸ Behold, your house has been left to you desolate!

²¹ For at that time there will be great tribulation, such as has not happened from the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will happen. ²² And unless those days had been shortened, _⌊no human being would be saved_⌋.* But for the sake of the elect, those days will be shortened. ²³ "At that time if anyone should say to you, 'Behold, here is the Christ,' or 'Here he is,' do not believe him!* ²⁴ For false messiahs and false prophets will appear, and will produce great signs and wonders in order to deceive, if possible, even the elect. ²⁵ Behold, I have told you ahead of time! ²⁶ Therefore if they say to you, 'Behold, he is in the wilderness,' do not go out, or* 'Behold, he is in the inner rooms,' do not believe it!* ²⁷ For just as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so the coming of the Son of Man will be. ²⁸ Wherever the corpse is, there the vultures will gather. ²⁹ "And immediately after the tribulation of those days,
'the sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of heaven will be shaken.'*

⁵ No, I tell you, but unless you repent, you will all perish as well!"

⁴² saying, "If you had known on this day—even you—the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. ⁴³ For days will come upon you and your enemies will put up an embankment* against you, and will surround you and press you hard from all directions. ⁴⁴ And they will raze you to the ground, you and your children within you, and will not leave a stone upon a stone within you, _⌊because_⌋* you did not recognize the time of your visitation."

²² because these are days of vengeance, so that all the things that are written can be fulfilled. ²³ Woe to those _⌊who are pregnant_⌋* and to those who are nursing their babies* in those days! For there will be great distress on the earth and wrath against this people, ²⁴ and they will fall by the edge of the sword, and will be led captive into all the nations,* and Jerusalem will be trampled down by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.

²⁸ But turning to them, Jesus said, "Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children! ²⁹ For behold, days are coming in which they will say, 'Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that did not give birth, and the breasts that did not nurse!' ³⁰ Then they will begin to say to the mountains, 'Fall on us!' and to the hills, 'Cover us!'

⁴⁷ and repentance and the forgiveness* of sins would be proclaimed in his name to all the nations,* beginning from Jerusalem.

³⁸ And Peter said* to them, "Repent and be baptized, each one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. ³⁹ For the promise is for you and for your children, and for all those who are far away, as many as the Lord our God calls to himself." ⁴⁰ And with many other words he solemnly urged and exhorted them, saying, "Be saved from this crooked generation!"

¹⁹ Therefore repent and turn back, so that your sins may be blotted out,

²¹ And I have given her time in order to repent, and she did not want to repent from her sexual immorality. ²² Behold, I am throwing her into a sickbed and those who committed adultery with her into great affliction, unless they repent from her deeds.

³⁰ Then those who remained fled to Aphek, to the city, and the wall fell on twenty-seven thousand men who had remained, so Ben-Hadad fled and went to the innermost rooms of the city.

¹⁵ Shallun son of Col-Hozeh, the commander of the district of Mizpah, repaired the Fountain Gate. He rebuilt it and covered it and erected its doors, its bolts, its bars, and he built the wall of the Pool of Shelah of the king's garden, right up to the steps going down from the city of David.

¹⁹ And behold,* a great wind came from across the desert, and it struck the four corners of the house _⌊so that_⌋* it fell upon the young people, and they died. But I escaped, even I alone, to tell you."

¹² and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.

²⁴ And when* he began to settle them,* someone was brought to him who owed ten thousand talents.

⁴¹ "There were two debtors who owed a certain creditor. One owed five hundred denarii and the other fifty. ⁴² When* they were not able to repay him,* he forgave the debts* of both. Now which of them will love him more?"

⁴ And forgive us our sins, for we ourselves also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And do not lead us into temptation."

⁷ And he said to him, "Go, wash in the pool of Siloam" (which is translated "sent"). So he went and washed and came back seeing.

¹¹ He replied, "The man who is called Jesus made clay and smeared it* on my eyes and said to me, 'Go to Siloam and wash!' So I went, and I washed, and* I received sight."

¹⁰ For it is blah-blah upon blah-blah, blah-blah upon blah-blah, gah-gah upon gah-gah, gah-gah upon gah-gah,* a little here, a little there. ¹¹ For he will speak with _⌊stammering_⌋* and another tongue to this people, ¹² to whom he has said,
"This is rest; give rest to the weary; and this is repose"; yet* they were not willing to hear. ¹³ And to them the word of Yahweh will be
blah-blah upon blah-blah blah-blah upon blah-blah gah-gah upon gah-gah gah-gah upon gah-gah,* a little here, a little there, so that they may go and stumble backward and be broken and ensnared and captured.

³⁰ "Therefore I will judge you, house of Israel, each one* according to his ways," _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh. "Repent* and turn around from all of your transgression, and it will not be as a stumbling block of iniquity to you.

³ No, I tell you, but unless you repent you will all perish as well!

⁸ You uprooted a vine from Egypt; you drove out the nations and planted it. ⁹ You prepared a place before it, and _⌊it took deep root_⌋* and filled the land. ¹⁰ The mountains were covered with its shade, and the mighty cedars with its boughs. ¹¹ It spread its branches to the sea and its shoots to the river. ¹² Why have you broken down its walls, so that all who pass on the road pluck fruit from it? ¹³ Swine from the forests devour* it and creatures of the field feed on it.

¹ Let me sing for my beloved a song of my love concerning his vineyard: _⌊My beloved had a vineyard_⌋* on _⌊a fertile hill_⌋.* ² And he dug it and cleared it of stones, and he planted it with choice vines,* and he built a watchtower in the middle of it, and he even hewed out a wine vat in it, and he waited for it to yield grapes— but it yielded wild grapes. ³ And now, inhabitants of Jerusalem and men* of Judah, judge between me and my vineyard. ⁴ What more was there to do for my vineyard that I have not done in it? Why did I hope for it to yield grapes, and it yielded wild grapes?

²¹ Yet I planted you as a choice vine, all of it a seed of trustworthiness. How then have you altered before me into something that is degenerate, the foreign vine?

¹⁹ And seeing a single fig tree by the road, he went to it and found nothing on it except leaves only. And he said to it, "May there be no more fruit from you _⌊forever_⌋,* and the fig tree withered at once. ²⁰ And when they* saw it,* the disciples were astonished, saying, "How did the fig tree wither at once?"

³⁴ And when the season of fruit drew near, he sent his slaves to the tenant farmers to collect his fruit. ³⁵ And the tenant farmers seized his slaves, one of whom they beat, and one of whom they killed, and one of whom they stoned. ³⁶ Again, he sent other slaves, more than the first ones, and they did the same thing to them. ³⁷ So finally he sent his son to them, saying, 'They will respect my son.' ³⁸ But when* the tenant farmers saw the son, they said among themselves, 'This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and have his inheritance!' ³⁹ And they seized him and* threw him* out of the vineyard and killed him.* ⁴⁰ Now when the master of the vineyard arrives, what will he do to those tenant farmers?"

¹² And on the next day as* they were departing from Bethany, he was hungry. ¹³ And when he* saw from a distance a fig tree that had leaves, he went to see if perhaps he would find anything on it. And when he* came up to it he found nothing except leaves, because it was not the season for figs. ¹⁴ And he responded and* said to it, "Let no one eat fruit from you any more _⌊forever_⌋!"* And his disciples heard it.*

¹⁰ And at the proper time he sent a slave to the tenant farmers, so that they would give him some of the fruit of the vineyard. But the tenant farmers sent him away empty-handed after* beating him.* ¹¹ And he proceeded to send another slave, but they beat and dishonored that one also, and* sent him* away empty-handed. ¹² And he proceeded to send a third, but they wounded and* threw out this one also. ¹³ So the owner of the vineyard said, 'What should I do? I will send my beloved son; perhaps they will respect him.' ¹⁴ But when* the tenant farmers saw him, they began to reason* with one another, saying, 'This is the heir. Let us kill him so that the inheritance will become ours!'

¹⁶ You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and your fruit should remain, in order that whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you.

²² But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

¹⁷ Not that I seek the gift, but I seek for the profit that increases to your account.

¹⁰ And now leave me alone so that _⌊my anger may blaze_⌋* against them, and let me destroy them, and I will make you into a great nation."

²³ " 'And when you* have come into the land and you* plant any tree for* food, _⌊you* shall regard its fruit as unharvestable_⌋;* for three years it shall be forbidden for you; * it shall not be eaten.

²¹ then* I will command my blessing for you* in the sixth year, so that* it will make* the yield for three years.

¹⁴ He cried _⌊aloud_⌋* and so he said:
"Cut down the tree and chop off its branches; shake off its foliage and scatter its fruit. Let the animals flee from under it, and the birds from its branches.

⁹ And do not think to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as father.' For I say to you that God is able to raise up children for Abraham from these stones! ¹⁰ Already now the ax is positioned at the root of the trees; therefore every tree not producing good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

² Every branch that does not bear fruit in me, he removes it, and every branch that bears fruit, he prunes it in order that it may bear more fruit.

⁶ If anyone does not remain in me, he is thrown out as a branch, and dries up, and they gather them and throw them* into the fire, and they are burned.

⁴ Or do you despise the wealth of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance? ⁵ But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart, you are storing up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and of the revelation of the righteous judgment of God,

¹¹ And Moses _⌊implored Yahweh_⌋* his God, and he said, "Why, Yahweh, should _⌊your anger blaze_⌋* against your people whom you brought up from the land of Egypt with great power and with a strong hand? ¹² Why should the Egyptians _⌊say_⌋*, 'With evil intent he brought them out to kill them in the mountains and wipe them from the face of the earth'?* Turn from _⌊your fierce anger_⌋* and relent concerning the disaster for your people. ¹³ Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, your servants, to whom you swore by yourself, and you told them, 'I will multiply your offspring like the stars of the heavens, and all this land that I promised I will give to your offspring, and they will inherit it forever.'"

³⁰ _⌊And_⌋* the next day Moses said to the people, "You have sinned a great sin. And now I will go up to Yahweh. Perhaps I can make atonement for your sin." ³¹ And Moses returned to Yahweh, and he said, "Alas, this people has sinned a great sin and made for themselves gods of gold. ³² And now if you will forgive their sin—and if not, please blot me from your scroll that you have written."

⁹ And he said, "Please, if I have found favor in your eyes, Lord, let my Lord, please, go among us—indeed it is a stiff-necked people—and forgive our iniquity and our sin and _⌊take us as your possession_⌋."*

¹¹ And Yahweh said to Moses, "How long until this people will despise me, and how long until they will not believe in me, and in all the signs that I have done in their* midst? ¹² I will strike them* with disease, and I will dispossess them;* I will make you into a greater and stronger nation than them."* ¹³ And Moses said to Yahweh, "Then the Egyptians will hear that you brought up this people from their* midst in your power, ¹⁴ and they will _⌊tell it_⌋* to the inhabitants of this land. They heard that you, Yahweh, are in the midst of this people, that you are seen eye to eye, and your cloud is standing over them, and in a column of cloud you go before them by day and in a column of fire at night. ¹⁵ But if you destroy this people _⌊all at once_⌋,* the nations that will have heard your message will say, ¹⁶ 'Yahweh was unable to bring this people in the land that he swore by an oath, and he slaughtered them in the desert.' ¹⁷ But now, please, let the power of my Lord be great, just has you spoke, ¹⁸ 'Yahweh is _⌊slow to anger_⌋* and great of loyal love, _⌊forgiving_⌋* sin and rebellion; but surely he leaves nothing unpunished, visiting the sin of the fathers on the sons to the third and fourth generations.' ¹⁹ Please forgive the sin of this people according to the greatness of your loyal love, just as you _⌊forgave_⌋* this people, from Egypt until now." ²⁰ Yahweh said, "I have forgiven them according to your word;

⁷ And Joshua said, "Ah, my Lord! Why did you bring this people across the Jordan to give us into the hand of the Amorites to destroy us? If only we had been content and stayed beyond the Jordan. ⁸ Please, my Lord! What can I say after _⌊Israel has fled from its enemies_⌋?* ⁹ The Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear of this, and they will surround us and cut off our name from the land. What will you do, for your great name?"

²³ So he said he would exterminate them, had not Moses, his chosen one, stood in the breach before him, to reverse his wrath from destroying them.

⁷ Although our iniquities testify against us, O Yahweh, act for the sake of your name. Yes, our apostasies are many; we have sinned against you. ⁸ You are the hope of Israel, its savior in time of distress. Why should you be like an alien in the land, or like a traveler who spreads out his tent * to spend the night? ⁹ Why should you be like a confused man, like a warrior who is not able to help? Yet you are in our midst, O Yahweh, and your name is called upon us. You must not leave us!

¹³ Then I said, "Ah, Lord Yahweh, look, the prophets are saying to them, 'You will not see the sword, and famine will not be yours, but reliable peace I will give to you in this place.'" ¹⁴ And Yahweh said to me, "The prophets are prophesying lies* in my name. I have not sent them, and I have not commanded them, and I have not spoken to them. They are prophesying to you a lying vision, and a divination, worthless, and the deceitfulness of their _⌊minds_⌋."* ¹⁵ _⌊Therefore_⌋* thus says Yahweh concerning the prophets who prophecy in my name though I have not sent them, yet they are saying, "Sword and famine will not be in this land." "By the sword and by the famine those prophets will perish. ¹⁶ And the people to whom they are prophesying will be cast out into the streets of Jerusalem _⌊because of_⌋* the famine and the sword. And there will be no one who buries them, their wives, or their sons, or their daughters. And I will pour out on them their wickedness. ¹⁷ "And you shall say to them this word,
'Let my eyes melt with tears night and day, and let them not cease, for with a great wound the virgin daughter of my people is broken, with a very incurable wound. ¹⁸ If I go out into the field, then look, those slain by the sword. And if I enter the city, then look, the sickness of the famine. For both prophet and priest wander around through the land, _⌊they do not know what is going on_⌋.'"*

¹ Then Yahweh said to me, "Even if Moses and Samuel stood _⌊before me_⌋,* my heart would not be to this people. Send them away from my _⌊sight_⌋,* and let them go out.

²⁰ Should good be repaid in place of evil? Yet they have dug a pit for me. Remember my standing _⌊before you_⌋* to speak good for them, to avert your wrath from them.

¹⁷ Between the colonnade and the altar, let the priests, the ministers of Yahweh, weep. And let them say, "Take pity, Yahweh, on your people. Do not make your inheritance a reproach, a byword among the nations. Why should they say among the nations, 'Where is their God?'"

¹ Brothers, the desire of my heart and my prayer to God on behalf of them is for their salvation.

¹⁴ if somehow I may provoke my people to jealousy and save some of them.

⁹ The Lord is not delaying the promise, as some consider slowness, but is being patient toward you, because he* does not want any to perish, but all to come to repentance.

¹⁴ Shall we again break your commandments and intermarry with the peoples who practice these detestable things? Would you not be angry with us until you destroy us with no remnant or remainder? ¹⁵ Yahweh, God of Israel, you are righteous, for we have been left this day as a remnant. Here we are before you in our guilt, for none can stand before you because of this."

²² Let their table before them be a trap, and their times of peace a snare. ²³ Let their eyes be dark so they cannot see, and make their loins continually tremble. ²⁴ Pour out your indignation on them, and let your burning anger overtake them. ²⁵ Let their camp be desolate. Let none dwell in their tents, ²⁶ because they persecute those whom you, yourself, have struck, and they tell of the pain of those you have wounded. ²⁷ _⌊Add guilt on top of their guilt_⌋,* and do not let them _⌊be acquitted_⌋.* ²⁸ Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, and let them not be recorded with the righteous.

⁵ we have sinned and we have done wrong and we acted wickedly and we rebelled and have been turning aside from your commandments and from your ordinances. ⁶ We have not listened to your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes and our ancestors* and to all the people of the land. ⁷ "_⌊Righteousness belongs to you, O Lord_⌋,* and on us is open shame, just as it is this day to the people of Judah and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and to all Israel, _⌊those who are near and those who are far off_⌋* in all the lands to which you have driven them,* because of their infidelity which they displayed against you. ⁸ Yahweh, on us is open shame, on our kings, on our princes, and on our ancestors,* because we have sinned against you.

¹⁵ who killed both the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and who persecuted us, and who are not pleasing to God and are opposed to all people,

⁸ But if it* produces thorns and thistles, it is worthless and near to a curse, whose end is for burning.

³ And they were singing the song of Moses, the slave of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying:
"Great and marvelous are your works, Lord God All-Powerful; righteous and true are your ways, King of the ages!* ⁴ Who would never fear, Lord, and glorify your name? For only you are holy, because all the nations* will come and worship before you, because your righteous deeds have been revealed."

⁵ And I heard the angel of the waters saying,
"You are righteous, the one who is and the one who was, the Holy One, because you have judged these things, ⁶ because they have poured out the blood of the saints and prophets, and you have given them blood to drink; they are deserving!" ⁷ And I heard the altar saying,
"Yes, Lord God All-Powerful, true and righteous are your judgments."

²³ And he went around through all of Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and every sickness among the people.

¹⁵ And he began to teach* in their synagogues, and* was praised by all. ¹⁶ And he came to Nazareth, where _⌊he had been brought up_⌋,* and according to _⌊his custom_⌋* he entered into the synagogue on the day of the Sabbath and stood up to read.

⁴⁴ And he was preaching in the synagogues of Judea.

⁷ So* Satan* went out from _⌊Yahweh's presence_⌋,* and he inflicted Job with loathsome skin sores from the sole of his foot up to the crown of his head.

² Be gracious to me, O Yahweh, because I am feeble. Heal me, O Yahweh, for my bones are terrified.

⁶ I am bowed down; I am bent over greatly. All the day I go about mourning.

⁵ Why are you _⌊in despair_⌋,* O my soul, and disturbed within me? Hope in God, because I will again praise him, for the salvation of his presence.

¹⁴ Yahweh upholds all who are falling, and raises up all who are bowed down.

⁸ Yahweh opens the eyes of the blind; Yahweh raises up those bowed down; Yahweh loves the righteous;

³² Now as* they were going away, behold, they brought to him a demon-possessed man who was unable to speak. ³³ And after* the demon had been expelled, the one who had been mute spoke, and the crowds were astonished, saying, "_⌊This has never been seen before_⌋* in Israel!"

²¹ And he asked his father how long it was since this had been happening to him. And he said, "From childhood.

² and some women who had been healed of evil spirits and diseases: Mary (who was called Magdalene), from whom seven demons had gone out,

²⁷ And as* he got out on the land, a certain man from the town met him* who had demons and for a considerable time had not worn clothes and did not live in a house, but among the tombs.

⁴³ And a woman who was _⌊suffering from hemorrhages_⌋* for twelve years (who, although she* had spent all her* assets on physicians, was not able to be healed by anyone)

¹⁶ And this woman, who is a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan bound _⌊eighteen_⌋* long years—is it not necessary that she be released from this bond on the day of the Sabbath?"

⁵ And a certain man was there who had been thirty-eight years in his sickness. ⁶ Jesus, when he* saw this one lying there and knew that he had been sick* a long time already, said to him, "Do you want to become well?"

¹⁹ And they asked them, saying, "Is this man your son, whom you say was born blind? Then how does he now see?" ²⁰ So his parents answered and said, "We know that this man is our son, and that he was born blind. ²¹ But how he now sees we do not know, or who opened his eyes we do not know. Ask him! _⌊He is a mature adult_⌋;* he will speak for himself!"

² And a certain man was being carried who was lame _⌊from birth_⌋.* _⌊He_⌋* was placed every day at the gate of the temple called "Beautiful," so that he could ask for charitable gifts from those who were going into the temple courts.*

²² For the man on whom this sign of healing had been performed was more than forty years old.

⁸ And in Lystra a certain man was sitting powerless in his feet, lame from _⌊birth_⌋,* who had never walked. ⁹ This man listened while* Paul was speaking. _⌊Paul_⌋,* looking intently at him and seeing that he had faith to be healed, ¹⁰ said with a loud voice, "Stand upright on your feet!" And he leaped up and began walking.*

²⁰ He sent his word and healed them, and he delivered them from their pits.*

¹ "I let myself be sought by those who did not ask; I let myself be found by those who did not seek me. I said, 'Here I am; here I am!' to a nation that did not call on my name;

¹⁰ Beat your cutting tools of iron into swords and your pruning hooks into spears; let the weakling say, 'I am a mighty warrior!'

¹⁶ Now when it* was evening, they brought to him many who were demon-possessed, and he expelled the spirits with a word. And he healed all _⌊those who were sick_⌋,*

⁸ But he knew their thoughts and said to the man who had the withered hand, "Get up and stand in the middle," and he got up and* stood there. ⁹ And Jesus said to them, "I ask you whether it is permitted on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save a life or to destroy it?"* ¹⁰ And after* looking around at them all, he said to him, "Stretch out your hand," and he did, and his hand was restored.

Bless Yahweh, O my soul, and all within me, bless his holy name. ² Bless Yahweh, O my soul, and do not forget all his benefits: ³ who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, ⁴ who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with loyal love and mercies, ⁵ who satisfies your life with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.

²⁰ He sent his word and healed them, and he delivered them from their pits.* ²¹ Let them give thanks to Yahweh for his loyal love, and his wonderful deeds for the children of humankind, ²² and let them offer sacrifices of thanksgiving, and tell of his works with rejoicing.

¹⁶ Ah, Yahweh, I am indeed your servant; I am your servant, the child of your maidservant. You have loosed my bonds. ¹⁷ I will offer to you a sacrifice of thanksgiving, and proclaim the name of Yahweh.

²³ And he was imploring him many times, saying, "My little daughter _⌊is at the point of death_⌋!* Come, lay your* hands on her, so that she will get well and will live."

⁵ And he was not able to do any miracle in that place except to lay his* hands on a few sick people and* heal them.*

²⁵ Then he placed his* hands on his eyes again, and he opened his eyes and was cured, and could see everything clearly.

¹⁸ they will pick up* snakes.* And if they drink any deadly poison it will never hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick and _⌊they will get_⌋* well."

⁴⁰ Now as* the sun was setting, all who had those who were sick with various diseases brought them to him, and placing his* hands on every one of them, he healed them.

¹⁴ And when he* saw them* he said to them, "Go and* show yourselves to the priests." And it happened that as they were going, they were cleansed. ¹⁵ But one of them, when he* saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice. ¹⁶ And he fell on his face at his feet, giving thanks to him. And he was a Samaritan. ¹⁷ So Jesus answered and* said, "Were not ten cleansed? And where are the nine?

⁴³ And immediately he regained his sight and began to follow* him, glorifying God. And all the people, when they* saw it,* gave praise to God.

¹⁷ So Ananias departed and entered into the house, and placing his* hands on him, he said, "Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road by which you came, has sent me so that you may regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit."

⁹ Six days you will work, and you will do all your work.

¹² " 'Six days you will do your work, but on the seventh day you will stop so that your ox and your donkey will rest and the son of your slave woman and the alien will be refreshed.

³ " 'For six days work is to be done, and on the seventh day shall be _⌊a Sabbath of complete rest_⌋,* a holy assembly; you shall not do any work; it shall be a Sabbath for Yahweh in all your dwellings.

¹² And also my Sabbaths I gave to them to be a sign between me and between them _⌊so they would know_⌋* that I, Yahweh, am the one sanctifying them.

² But when* the Pharisees saw it,* they said to him, "Behold, your disciples are doing what it is not permitted to do on the Sabbath!"

¹⁰ And behold, there was a man who had a withered hand, and they asked him, saying, "Is it permitted to heal on the Sabbath?" in order that they could accuse him. ¹¹ But he said to them, "What man will there be among you who will have one sheep and if this one fell into a pit on the Sabbath, will not take hold of it and lift it* out? ¹² Then to what degree is a man worth more than a sheep? So then, it is permitted to do good on the Sabbath."

² And they were watching him closely to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath, in order that they could accuse him. ³ And he said to the man who had the withered hand, "Come into the middle." ⁴ And he said to them, "Is it permitted on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?" But they were silent. ⁵ And looking around at them with anger, grieved at the hardness of their hearts, he said to the man, "Stretch out your* hand." And he stretched it* out, and his hand was restored. ⁶ And the Pharisees went out immediately with the Herodians _⌊and began to conspire_⌋* against him with regard to how they could destroy him.

²² And one of the rulers of the synagogue came—Jairus by name—and when he* saw him, he fell down at his feet.

⁷ So the scribes and the Pharisees were watching closely* to see if he would heal on the Sabbath, in order that they could find a reason* to accuse him.

¹¹ But they were filled with fury, and began discussing* with one another what they might do to Jesus.

⁴¹ And behold, a man _⌊who was named_⌋* Jairus came, and this man was a ruler of the synagogue. And he fell down at the feet of Jesus and* began imploring* him to come to his house,

³ And Jesus answered and* said to the legal experts and Pharisees, saying, "Is it permitted to heal on the Sabbath, or not?" ⁴ But they remained silent. And he took hold of him* and* healed him, and sent him* away. ⁵ And he said to them, "Who among you, if your* son or your ox falls into a well* on the day of the Sabbath, will not immediately pull him out?" ⁶ And they were not able to make a reply to these things.

¹⁵ The man went and reported to the Jews that Jesus was the one who made him well. ¹⁶ And on account of this the Jews began to persecute* Jesus, because he was doing these things on the Sabbath.

¹⁴ (Now the day on which Jesus made the clay and opened his eyes was the Sabbath.) ¹⁵ So the Pharisees also were asking him again how he received sight. And he said to them, "He put clay on my eyes, and I washed, and I see." ¹⁶ So some of the Pharisees were saying, "This man is not from God, because he does not observe the Sabbath!" Others* were saying, "How can a man who is a sinner perform such signs?" And there was a division among them.

¹⁵ So after the reading from the law and the prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent word* to them, saying, "Men and brothers, if there is any message of exhortation by you for the people, say it."*

⁸ And Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed in the Lord together with his whole household. And many of the Corinthians, when they* heard about it,* believed and were baptized.

¹⁷ So they all seized Sosthenes, the ruler of the synagogue, and* began beating* him* in front of the judgment seat. And none of these things was a concern to Gallio.

² For I testify about them that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge.

³⁰ so that godless human beings should not reign, nor those who ensnare the people.

⁹ With a mouth, the godless shall destroy his neighbor, but by knowledge the righteous are delivered.

²⁰ For the tyrant shall be no more, and the scoffer shall come to an end. And all those lying in wait for evil shall be cut off;

⁵ Hypocrite! First remove the beam of wood from your own eye and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye!

⁷ Hypocrites! Isaiah correctly prophesied about you saying,

¹⁴ Let* them! They are blind guides of the blind. And if the blind guide the blind, both will fall into a pit."

¹³ "But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees—hypocrites!—because you shut the kingdom of heaven before people! For you do not enter, nor permit those wanting to go in* to enter.*

²⁸ In the same way, on the outside you also appear righteous to people, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

⁴² How are you able to say to your brother, "Brother, allow me to remove the speck that is in your eye," while* you yourself do not see the beam of wood in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the beam of wood from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck that is in your brother's eye!

¹ During _⌊this time_⌋* when* a crowd of many thousands had gathered together, so that they were trampling one another, he began to say to his disciples first, "Beware for yourselves of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.

⁵ And he said to them, "Who among you, if your* son or your ox falls into a well* on the day of the Sabbath, will not immediately pull him out?"

²¹ Jesus answered and said to them, "I performed one work, and you are all astonished. ²² Because of this Moses has given you circumcision (not that it is from Moses, but from the fathers), and you circumcise a man on the Sabbath. ²³ If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses would not be broken, are you angry with me because I made a whole man well* on the Sabbath? ²⁴ Do not judge according to outward appearance, but judge according to righteous judgment!"

²⁰ But Peter said to him, "May your silver _⌊be destroyed along with you_⌋,* because you thought _⌊you could acquire_⌋* the gift of God by means of money! ²¹ _⌊You have no_⌋* part or share in this matter, because your heart is not right before God. ²² Therefore repent of this wickedness of yours, and ask the Lord if perhaps the intent of your heart may be forgiven you!" ²³ For I see you are in _⌊a state of bitter envy_⌋* and _⌊bound by unrighteousness_⌋."*

⁹ But Saul (also called Paul), filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him ¹⁰ and* said, "O you who are full of all deceit and of all unscrupulousness, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness! Will you not stop making crooked the straight paths of the Lord!

¹⁰ Then Jesus said to him, "Go away, Satan, for it is written, 'You shall worship the Lord your God and serve only him.'"*

²⁷ And he said to them, "The Sabbath was established for people, and not people for the Sabbath.

⁸ Therefore produce fruit worthy of repentance! And do not begin to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as father.' For I say to you that God is able to raise up children for Abraham from these stones!

¹¹ And behold, a woman was there* who had a spirit _⌊that had disabled her_⌋* for eighteen years, and she was bent over and not able to straighten herself up completely.* ¹² And when he* saw her, Jesus summoned her* and said to her, "Woman, you are freed from your disability!"

²⁴ And he called out and* said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus so that he could dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am suffering pain in this flame!'

⁹ And Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house, because he too is a son of Abraham.

⁴⁴ You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father! That one was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand firm in the truth, because truth is not in him. Whenever he speaks the lie, he speaks from his own nature,* because he is a liar and the father _⌊of lies_⌋.*

²⁶ "Men and brothers, sons of the family of Abraham and those among you who fear God—to us the message of this salvation has been sent!

¹² and the father _⌊of those who are circumcised_⌋* to those who are not only from the circumcision, but who also follow in the footsteps of the faith of our father Abraham _⌊which he had while uncircumcised_⌋*. ¹³ For the promise to Abraham or to his descendants, that he would be heir of the world, was not through the law, but through the righteousness by faith. ¹⁴ For if those of the law are heirs, faith is rendered void and the promise is nullified. ¹⁵ For the law produces wrath, but where there is no law, neither is there transgression. ¹⁶ Because of this, it is by faith, in order that it may be according to grace, so that the promise may be secure to all the descendants, not only to those of the law, but also to those of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all

²⁶ and they will come to their senses again and escape from the trap of the devil, being held captive by him to do his will.

¹¹ Who is like you among the gods, Yahweh? Who is like you—glorious in holiness, awesome in praiseworthy actions, doing wonders?*

¹⁴ Let them be shamed and abashed altogether who seek to take away my life.* Let them be repulsed and humiliated who desire my harm.

²⁹ Let my accusers put on disgrace, and let them cover themselves with their shame as with a robe.

³ Full of splendor and majesty is his work, and his righteousness endures forever.

¹⁸ I will clothe his enemies with shame, but on him his crown will flourish."*

² On that day the branch of Yahweh shall become beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the land shall become the pride and glory of the survivors* of Israel.

²⁴ 'Only in Yahweh,' one shall say to me, 'are righteousness and strength.' He shall come to him, and all those who were angry with him shall be ashamed.

⁶ And they were not able to make a reply to these things.

³⁷ Now as* he was drawing near by this time to the descent from the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of the disciples began rejoicing to praise God with a loud voice for all the miracles that they had seen, ³⁸ saying,
"Blessed is the king, the one who comes in the name of the Lord!* Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!" ³⁹ And some of the Pharisees from the crowd said to him, "Teacher, rebuke your disciples!" ⁴⁰ And he answered and* said, "I tell you that* if these keep silent, the stones will cry out!"

⁴⁸ And they did not find anything they could do, because all the people were paying close attention to what they were hearing from him.

⁴⁰ For they no longer dared to ask him anything.

¹⁷ So the crowd who was with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead were continuing to testify. ¹⁸ Because of this also the crowd went to meet him, for they had heard that he had performed this sign.

⁹ And all the people saw him walking and praising God, ¹⁰ And they recognized him, that this one* was the one who used to sit asking for alms at the Beautiful Gate of the temple, and they were filled with awe and astonishment at what had happened to him. ¹¹ And while* he was holding fast to Peter and John, all the people ran together to them in the portico called Solomon's, utterly astonished.

²¹ So after* threatening them* further, they released them, finding no way to punish them on account of the people, because they were all praising God for what had happened.

⁹ But they will not progress to a greater extent, for their folly will be quite evident to everyone, as also the folly of those two was.

¹⁶ But do so with courtesy and respect, having a good conscience, so that in the things in which you are slandered, the ones who malign your good conduct in Christ may be put to shame.

¹³ What can I say for you? What can I compare to you, O daughter of Jerusalem? To what can I liken you so that I can comfort you, O virgin daughter of Zion? For your destruction is as vast as the sea; who can heal you?

²⁴ He put before them another parable, saying, "The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field.

³¹ He put before them another parable, saying, "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that a man took and* sowed in his field. ³² _⌊It_⌋* is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it is grown it is larger than the garden herbs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the sky come and nest in its branches."

²⁶ And he said, "The kingdom of God is like this: like a man scatters seed on the ground.

³⁰ And he said, "With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or by what parable can we present it? ³¹ It is like a mustard seed that when sown on the ground, although it* is the smallest of all the seeds that are on the ground, ³² but when it is sown it grows up and becomes the largest of all the garden herbs, and sends out large branches so that the birds of the sky are able to nest in its shade." ³³ And with many parables such as these he was speaking the word to them, as they were able to hear it.* ³⁴ And he did not speak to them without a parable, but in private he explained everything to his own disciples.

³¹ "To what then shall I compare the people of this generation, and what are they like?

²⁰ And again he said, "To what shall I compare the kingdom of God?

²¹ nor will they say, 'Behold, here it is!' or 'There!' For behold, the kingdom of God is in your midst."

¹⁶ May there be an abundance of grain in the land even on the top of the mountains. May his crop* sway like the trees of Lebanon, and may those from the city blossom like the grass of the earth. ¹⁷ May his name endure forever. May his name increase _⌊as long as the sun shines_⌋,* and let them be blessed in him. Let all nations call him blessed.

¹² A garden locked is my sister bride, a spring enclosed,* a fountain sealed.

¹⁶ Awake, O north wind! Come, O south wind! Blow upon my garden! Let its fragrances* waft forth!* Let my beloved come to his garden, let him eat his choice fruit!

² My beloved has gone down to his garden, to the garden bed of the spice, to pasture his flock and to gather lilies in the garden.

¹³ O you who dwell in the garden, my companions are listening to your voice. Let me hear it!

² And it shall happen in the future of the days the mountain of the house* of Yahweh shall be established; it will be among the highest* of the mountains, and it shall be raised from the hills. All of the nations shall travel to him; ³ many peoples shall come. And they shall say, "Come, let us go up to the mountain of Yahweh, to the house* of the God of Jacob, and may he teach us part of his ways, and let us walk in his paths." For instruction shall go out from Zion, and the word of Yahweh from Jerusalem.

⁷ _⌊His dominion will grow continually, and to peace there will be no end_⌋* on* the throne of David and over* his kingdom, to establish it* and sustain it with justice and righteousness now and forever. The zeal of Yahweh of hosts will do this.

²⁰ Yet the children _⌊born when you were bereaved_⌋* will say in your _⌊hearing_⌋,*
"The place is too cramped for me; _⌊make room_⌋* for me so that I can dwell." ²¹ Then* you will say in your heart,
"Who has borne me these?" And, "I was bereaved and barren, exiled and thrust away; so* who raised these? Look at me! I was left alone; _⌊where have these come from_⌋?"* ²² Thus says the Lord Yahweh:
"Look! I will lift my hand up to the nations, and I will raise my signal to the peoples, and they shall bring your sons in their bosom, and your daughters shall be carried on their shoulders.* ²³ And kings shall be your _⌊guardians_⌋,* and their queens your nurses. They shall bow down, _⌊faces_⌋* to the ground, to you, and they will lick up the dust of your feet. Then* you will know that I am Yahweh; those who await me shall not be ashamed. ²⁴ Can war-booty be taken from the mighty? or can a captive of a righteous* person be rescued? ²⁵ But thus says Yahweh:
"Indeed a captive of the mighty shall be taken, and the war-booty of the tyrant shall be rescued, for* I myself will dispute with your opponent, and I myself will save your children.

² Look to Abraham your father, and to Sarah; she brought you forth. For I called him _⌊alone_⌋,* but* I blessed him and made him numerous." ³ For Yahweh will comfort Zion; he will comfort all its sites of ruins. And he will _⌊make_⌋* its wilderness like Eden, and its desert like the garden of Yahweh. Joy and gladness will be found in it, thanksgiving and the _⌊sound_⌋* of song.

¹ Who has believed our message, and to whom has the arm of Yahweh been revealed?

¹⁰ Yet* Yahweh was pleased to crush him; he _⌊made him sick_⌋.* If she* places* his life a guilt offering,* he will see offspring. He will prolong days, and the will of Yahweh will succeed in his hand.

¹¹ And Yahweh will lead you continually, and satisfy your soul in a barren land, and he will strengthen your bones, and you shall be like a well-watered garden, and like a spring of water whose water does not fail.

¹⁵ Instead of you being forsaken and hated _⌊with no one passing through,_⌋* I will _⌊make_⌋* you an everlasting _⌊object of pride_⌋,* a joy of _⌊coming generations_⌋.* ¹⁶ And you shall suck the milk of nations, and suck the breast of kings, and you shall know that I am Yahweh your Savior, and your Redeemer, the Strong One of Jacob. ¹⁷ Instead of bronze I will bring gold, and instead of iron I will bring silver, and instead of wood, bronze, and instead of stones, iron. And I will _⌊appoint_⌋* peace as your overseer, and righteousness as _⌊your ruling body_⌋.* ¹⁸ Violence shall no longer be heard in your land; devastation or* destruction on your borders. And you shall call your walls Salvation, and your gates, Praise. ¹⁹ The sun shall no longer be your light by day, and for bright light the moon shall not give you light, but* Yahweh will be your everlasting light, and your God your glory. ²⁰ Your sun shall no longer go down, and your moon shall not _⌊wane_⌋,* for Yahweh himself will be your everlasting light, and your days of mourning shall come to an end. ²¹ And all your people shall be righteous; they shall take possession of the land forever, the shoot of his* planting, the work of my hands, to show my glory. ²² The small one shall become a tribe, and the smallest one a mighty nation.
I am Yahweh; I will hasten it in its time."

¹¹ For as the earth _⌊produces_⌋* its sprout, and as a garden makes its plants sprout, so the Lord Yahweh will make righteousness sprout, and praise before all the nations.

¹² And they will come, and they will sing for joy on the height of Zion, and they will be radiant over the goodness of Yahweh, over the grain, and over the wine, and over the olive oil, and over the young ones of the flock, and over the cattle. And their life will become like a well-watered garden, and they will never languish again."

²² Thus says the Lord Yahweh: 'And I will take, even I, from the treetop of the high cedar, and I will plant it, from the head of its new plant shoot I will pluck a tender one, and I will plant it, even I, on a high and lofty mountain. ²³ On the height of the mountain of Israel I will plant it, and it will carry* branches,* and it will bear fruit, and _⌊it will become a noble cedar_⌋,* and all of the birds of all wings* will dwell under it in the shade of its branches. ²⁴ And all of the trees of the field will know that I, Yahweh, I will bring low a high tree, and I will exalt a low, fresh tree, and I will make a dry tree flourish. I, Yahweh, I have spoken, and I will do it.'"

⁶ In its branches all the birds* of the heaven* made their nest, and under its branches all the animals* of the field gave birth, and in its shadow all the many nations lived.

¹ And he brought me back to the doorway of the temple and, look! There was water coming out from under the threshold of the temple eastward, because the face of the temple was eastwards; and the water was coming down from under the south side of the temple, from south of the altar. ² And he brought me out by the way of the north gate and he led me around by the _⌊way leading to the outside of the outer gate_⌋* by way of the gate facing east, and look, there was water trickling from the south side. ³ As the man went eastward a measuring line was in his hand, and he measured a thousand _⌊cubits_⌋.* And he led me through on into the water; it was _⌊ankle deep_⌋.* ⁴ And he measured a thousand cubits,* and he brought me over into the waters and it was _⌊knee deep_⌋.* And he measured a thousand cubits,* and he brought me over into the waters and it was _⌊waist deep_⌋.* ⁵ And he measured a thousand cubits,* and it became a stream that I was not able to cross, because the water rose, _⌊waters a person could swim in_⌋,* and became a stream that could not be crossed. ⁶ And he asked me, "Son of man,* did you see this?" And he made me go, and he brought me back along the bank of the stream. ⁷ _⌊When I returned_⌋,* then look! On the bank of the river were many trees _⌊on both sides_⌋.* ⁸ And he said to me, "These waters are going out to the eastern region, and they go down to the _⌊Jordan Valley_⌋,* and they come to the sea* and flow into the sea where _⌊they issue out_⌋,* and the waters in the sea will be healed.* ⁹ And then every living creature with which it teems,* _⌊to every place the waters come_⌋* it will live; and very many fish will live because these waters came there, and so the water will be healed* and everything will be alive _⌊everywhere that_⌋* _⌊the stream will come_⌋.* ¹⁰ And then fishers* from En Gedi and on up to En Eglaim will stand beside it, a sea-girt drying yard for nets; their fish for the dragnets will be _⌊of every kind_⌋,* like the fish of the great sea,* and very many. ¹¹ But its marshes and its swamps will not be cured, for they were given for salt. ¹² And along the stream will go up on its banks _⌊from both sides_⌋* every tree _⌊producing food_⌋;* its leaf will not wither and it will not cease producing its fruit. _⌊Every month_⌋* it will bear early fruit, for its waters are going out from the sanctuary, and its fruit will be as food, and its leaf for healing."

³⁴ You were looking on _⌊until_⌋* a stone was chiseled out*—that not by hands—and it struck the statue on its feet of iron and clay, and it broke them in pieces. ³⁵ Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver and the gold _⌊all at once_⌋* broke into pieces* and they became like chaff from the summer threshing floor, and the wind carried them away and any trace of them could not be found. But the stone that struck the statue became a great mountain and it filled the whole earth.

⁴⁴ And _⌊in the day of those kings_⌋,* the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will _⌊never_⌋* be destroyed, and the kingdom will not be left for another nation,* and it will bring an end to all these kingdoms, but it will stand _⌊forever_⌋.* ⁴⁵ _⌊Inasmuch as_⌋* you saw that a stone from the mountain was chiseled out* but not by hands, and that it crushed the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver and the gold, thereby the great God made known to the king what will be _⌊in the future_⌋,* and the dream is certain and its explanation trustworthy."

Let us go up to the mountain of Yahweh, and to the _⌊temple_⌋* of the God of Jacob, that he may teach us his ways, and that we may walk in his paths," for the law will go out from Zion, and the word of Yahweh from Jerusalem.

¹¹ "Many nations will join themselves to Yahweh on that day, and they will be my people, and I will dwell in your midst. And you will know that Yahweh of hosts has sent me to you.

²⁰ Thus says Yahweh of hosts: 'It will happen again that nations and the inhabitants of many cities will come. ²¹ And the inhabitants of one city will go to another city, saying, "Let us go immediately to entreat _⌊the favor of_⌋* Yahweh, to seek Yahweh of hosts—I also will go!" ²² And many peoples and powerful* nations will come to seek Yahweh of hosts in Jerusalem, and to entreat _⌊the favor of_⌋* Yahweh.' ²³ Thus says Yahweh of hosts: 'In those days ten men from _⌊all the nations of every language_⌋* will take hold of the hem of a Judean man,* saying, "Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you!" '"

⁷ There shall be continuous day—it is known to Yahweh—not day and not night; and at evening time there will be light. ⁸ _⌊And then_⌋* on that day, living waters will flow out from Jerusalem, half of them to the eastern sea,* and the other half to the western sea;* it will happen both in the summer and in the winter. ⁹ And Yahweh will be king over all the earth; on that day Yahweh will be one and his name one.

²⁰ And he said to them, "Because of your little faith. For truly I say to you, if you have faith like a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you."*

³¹ It is like a mustard seed that when sown on the ground, although it* is the smallest of all the seeds that are on the ground, ³² but when it is sown it grows up and becomes the largest of all the garden herbs, and sends out large branches so that the birds of the sky are able to nest in its shade."

⁶ So the Lord said, "If you have faith like a mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it would obey you.

⁴¹ So those who accepted his message were baptized, and on that day about three thousand souls were added.

⁴ But many of those who listened to the message believed, and the number of the men was approximately five thousand.

¹⁴ Simeon has described how God first concerned himself to take from among the Gentiles a people for his name. ¹⁵ And with this the words of the prophets agree, just as it is written: ¹⁶ 'After these things I will return and build up again the tent of David that has fallen, and the parts of it that had been torn down I will build up again and will restore it, ¹⁷ so that the rest of humanity may seek the Lord, even all the Gentiles* _⌊who are called by my name_⌋,* says the Lord,* who makes these things ¹⁸ known from of old.'*

²⁰ And when* they heard this,* they began to glorify* God. And they said to him, "You see, brother, how many ten thousands there are among the Jews who have believed, and they are all zealous adherents of the law.

¹⁹ by the power of signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit,* so that from Jerusalem and traveling around as far as Illyricum I have fully proclaimed the gospel of Christ.

¹⁵ And the seventh angel blew the trumpet, and there was a loud voice in heaven saying,
"The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will reign _⌊forever and ever_⌋*."

⁹ But* the righteous holds on to his way, and _⌊he who has clean hands_⌋* increases in strength.

¹³ Planted in the house* of Yahweh, they will flourish in the courts of our God. ¹⁴ They will still prosper in old age. They will be fat and luxuriant,*

¹⁸ But the path of the righteous ones is like the light of dawn, leading and shining until the day _⌊is full_⌋.*

³ Let us know, let us press on to know Yahweh; his rising is sure like the dawn. He will come like the showers to us, like the spring rain that waters the earth.

³³ He told them another parable: "The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and* put into three measures of wheat flour until the whole batch was leavened."

¹⁴ But whoever drinks of this water which I will give to him will never be thirsty for eternity, but the water which I will give to him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life."

⁶ Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole batch of dough?

⁶ convinced of this same thing, that the one who began a good work in you will finish it* until the day of Christ Jesus,

⁹ And this I pray: that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, ¹⁰ so that you may approve what is superior, in order that you may be sincere and blameless in* the day of Christ, ¹¹ having been filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ to the glory and praise of God.

²³ Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your spirit and soul and body be kept complete, blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. ²⁴ The one who calls you is faithful, who also will do this.

²¹ Therefore, putting aside all moral uncleanness and wicked excess, welcome* with humility the implanted message which is able to save your souls.

³⁵ And Jesus was going around all the towns and the villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every* disease and every* sickness.

⁶ And he was astonished because of their unbelief.

³² Now they were on the road going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was going on ahead of them. And they were astounded, but those who were following him* were afraid. And taking aside the twelve again, he began to tell them the things that were about to happen to him: ³³ "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles. ³⁴ And they will mock him and spit on him and flog him and kill him,* and after three days he will rise."

⁴³ But he said to them, "It is necessary for me to proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns also, because I was sent for this purpose. ⁴⁴ And he was preaching in the synagogues of Judea.

⁵¹ Now it happened that when the days were approaching _⌊for him to be taken up_⌋,* he set his* face to go to Jerusalem.

³⁸ Jesus of Nazareth—how God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, because God was with him.

²⁵ So when* the disciples heard this,* they were extremely amazed, saying, "Then who can be saved?"

³ And as* he was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came up to him privately, saying, "Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?" ⁴ And Jesus answered and* said to them, "Watch out that no one deceives you! ⁵ For many will come in my name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and they will deceive many.

⁴ "Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign when all these things are about to be accomplished?" ⁵ So Jesus began to say to them, "Watch out that no one deceives you!

¹³ Now someone from the crowd said to him, "Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me!" ¹⁴ But he said to him, "Man, who made me a judge or an arbitrator over you?" ¹⁵ And he said to them, "Watch out and guard yourselves from all greediness, because not even when someone has an abundance _⌊does_⌋* his life consist of his possessions."

⁷ And they asked him, saying, "Teacher, when therefore will these things happen, and what will be the sign when these things are about to take place?" ⁸ And he said, Watch out that you are not deceived! For many will come in my name, saying, 'I am he,' and 'The time is near!' Do not go after them!

²¹ So when he* saw this one, Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, but what about this one?" ²² Jesus said to him, "If I want him to remain until I come, what is that* to you? You follow me!"

⁷ But he said to them, "It is not for you to know the times or seasons that the Father has set by his own authority. ⁸ But you will receive power when* the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the farthest part of the earth."

²⁵ And when he* saw that he could not prevail against him, he struck his hip socket, so that Jacob's hip socket was sprained as he wrestled with him. ²⁶ Then he* said, "Let me go, for dawn is breaking." But he answered, "I will not let you go unless you bless me."

²⁴ Because I called out and you refused me, I stretched out my hand, yet there is none who heeds. ²⁵ You have ignored all my counsel, and my reproof you are not willing to accept. ²⁶ I will also laugh at your calamity;* I will mock when panic* comes upon you. ²⁷ When your panic comes like a storm, and your calamity arrives like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you, ²⁸ then they will call* me, but I will not answer; they will seek me diligently but not find me.

⁶ A scoffer seeks wisdom, but there is none, but knowledge _⌊comes easily to him who understands_⌋.*

²⁵ The craving of a lazy person will kill him, for his hands refuse to work.*

¹⁵ The fool is so worn out by a hard day's work _⌊he cannot even find his way home at night_⌋.*

¹⁵ And when you stretch out your hands, I will hide my eyes from you; even though you make many prayers,* I will not be listening. Your hands are full of blood.

² Yet* they seek me day by day, and they desire the knowledge of my ways like a nation that _⌊practiced_⌋* righteousness, and had not forsaken the judgment of its God; they ask me for _⌊righteous judgments_⌋,* they desire the closeness of God. ³ 'Why do we fast, and you do not see it? We humiliate our soul, and you do not notice it?' Look! You find delight on the day of your fast, and you oppress all your workers! ⁴ Look! You fast to quarrel and strife, and to strike with a _⌊wicked fist_⌋.* You shall not fast as you do _⌊today_⌋,* to _⌊make your voice heard_⌋* on the height.

³¹ And they come to you _⌊as people do_⌋,* and they sit _⌊before you_⌋,* and my people hear your words, and they do not do them, for they are showing* passion in their mouth, but their heart is going after ill-gotten gain.

¹³ "Enter through the narrow gate, because broad is the gate and spacious is the road that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it, ¹⁴ because narrow* is the gate and constricted is the road that leads to life, and there are few who find it!

¹² But from the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven is treated violently, and the violent claim* it.

¹⁸ For John had been saying to Herod, "It is not permitted for you to have your brother's wife." ¹⁹ So Herodias held a grudge against him and was wanting to kill him, and was not able to do so. ²⁰ For Herod was afraid of John, because he* knew him to be a righteous and holy man and protected him. And when he* listened to him, he was greatly perplexed, and yet he listened to him gladly.

³⁶ But be alert at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to happen, and to stand before the Son of Man."

²⁷ Do not work for the food that perishes, but the food that remains to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For God the Father has set his seal on this one."

³⁴ You will seek me and will not find me,** and where I am, you cannot come."

²¹ So he said to them again, "I am going away, and you will seek me and will die in your sin. Where I am going you cannot come!"

³³ Children, yet a little time I am with you. You will seek me and just as I said to the Jews, "Where I am going you cannot come," now I say also to you.

³¹ But Israel, pursuing the law of righteousness, did not attain to the law. ³² Why that? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as if by works. They stumbled over the _⌊stone that causes people to stumble_⌋*, ³³ just as it is written,
"Behold, I am laying in Zion _⌊a stone that causes people to stumble_⌋*, and _⌊a rock that causes them to fall_⌋*, and the one who believes in him will not be put to shame."*

³ For ignoring the righteousness of God, and seeking to establish their own,* they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God.

²⁴ Do you not know that those who run in the stadium all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win. ²⁵ And everyone who competes exercises self-control in all things. Thus those do so in order that they may receive a perishable crown, but we an imperishable one. ²⁶ Therefore I run in this way, not as running aimlessly; I box in this way, not as beating the air. ²⁷ But I discipline my body and subjugate it, lest somehow after* preaching to others, I myself should become disqualified.

¹² Therefore my dear friends, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. ¹³ For the one at work in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure, is God.

²⁹ for which purpose also I labor, striving according to his working which is at work powerfully in me.

¹¹ Therefore, let us make every effort to enter into that rest, in order that no one may fall in the same pattern of disobedience.

¹⁰ Therefore, brothers, be zealous even more to make your calling and election secure, because if you* do these things, you will never ever stumble.

¹⁶ And those that came, male and female, of every living thing, came as God had commanded him. And Yahweh shut the door behind him.

⁶ Therefore let all the faithful pray to you at the time for finding you. Surely at the flood of many waters they will not reach him.

⁶ Seek Yahweh _⌊while he lets himself be found_⌋;* call him _⌊while he is_⌋* near.

²¹ "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter into the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. ²² On that day many will say to me, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and expel demons in your name, and perform many miracles in your name?' ²³ And then _⌊I will say to them plainly_⌋,* 'I never knew you. Depart from me, you who practice lawlessness!'

¹⁰ But while* they had gone away to buy it* the bridegroom arrived, and those who were ready went inside with him to the wedding celebration, and the door was shut. ¹¹ And later the other virgins came also, saying, 'Lord, lord, open the door* for us!' ¹² But he answered and* said, 'Truly I say to you, I do not know you!'

⁴¹ Then he will also say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you accursed ones, into the eternal fire that has been prepared for the devil and his angels!

⁴⁶ "And why do you call me 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I tell you?*

²⁷ And he will reply, saying to you, 'I do not know where you are from! Go away from me, all you _⌊evildoers_⌋!'*

"At the acceptable time I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you."*
Behold, now is the acceptable time; behold, now is the day of salvation!

⁷ Therefore, just as the Holy Spirit says,
"Today, if you hear his voice, ⁸ do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, in the day of testing in the wilderness,

¹⁷ For you know that also afterwards, when he* wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, because he did not find an occasion for repentance, although he sought it with tears.

² Yet* they seek me day by day, and they desire the knowledge of my ways like a nation that _⌊practiced_⌋* righteousness, and had not forsaken the judgment of its God; they ask me for _⌊righteous judgments_⌋,* they desire the closeness of God.

⁵ maintaining a form of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid these people.

¹⁶ They profess to know God, but by their deeds they deny him, because they* are detestable and disobedient, and unfit for every good deed.

⁶ for Yahweh knows the way of the righteous,* but the way of the wicked will perish.

⁶ You destroy speakers of lies.* _⌊A man of bloodshed_⌋* and deceit Yahweh abhors.

⁸ Depart from me, all workers of evil, for Yahweh has heard the sound of my weeping.

³ Do not drag me away with the wicked or with the workers of evil, who speak of peace with their neighbors, while evil is in their heart.

⁸ _⌊Each morning_⌋,* I will destroy all the wicked of the land, cutting off from the city of Yahweh all evildoers.

¹¹⁵ Turn aside from me, you evildoers, for I will keep the commands of my God.

⁵ But regarding those who turn aside to their crooked ways, Yahweh will lead them away with the evildoers. Peace be upon Israel.

¹² Even though they bring up their children, I will bereave them before maturity.* Woe to them indeed, when I depart from them!

¹² But he answered and* said, 'Truly I say to you, I do not know you!'

²⁵ when once the master of the house has gotten up and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock on the door, saying, 'Lord, open the door* for us!' And he will answer and* say to you, 'I do not know where you are from!'

³ But if anyone loves God, this one is known by him.

⁹ But now, because you have come to know God, or rather have come to be known by God, how can you turn back again to the weak and miserable elemental spirits? Do you want to be enslaved to them* all over again?

¹⁹ However, the solid foundation of God stands firm, having this seal: "The Lord knows those who are his,"* and "Everyone who names the name of the Lord must abstain from unrighteousness."

¹⁰ The wicked* sees it and is vexed. He gnashes his teeth and _⌊becomes weak_⌋.* The desire of the wicked* perishes.

¹¹ But I say to you that many will come from east and west and _⌊be seated at the banquet_⌋* with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. ¹² But the sons of the kingdom will be thrown out into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth!"

¹³ Then the king said to the servants, 'Tie him up _⌊hand and foot_⌋* and* throw him into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth!'

³⁰ And throw the worthless slave into the outer darkness—in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth!'

¹⁵ And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? No! You will be brought down to Hades!

¹⁵ Now when* one of those reclining at the table with him heard these things, he said to him, "Blessed is _⌊everyone who_⌋* will eat bread in the kingdom of God!"

²³ And in Hades he lifted up his eyes as he* was in torment and* saw Abraham from a distance, and Lazarus _⌊at his side_⌋.*

⁴² And he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom!" ⁴³ And he said to him, "Truly I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise."

⁵ a proof of the righteous judgment of God, so that you may be considered worthy of the kingdom of God, on behalf of which also you are suffering,

¹¹ For in this way entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be richly supplied for you.

⁸ But as for the cowards and unbelievers and detestable persons and murderers and sexually immoral people and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their share is in the lake that burns with fire and sulphur, which is the second death.

¹⁵ Outside are the dogs and the sorcerers and the sexually immoral people and the murderers and the idolaters and everyone who loves and who practices falsehood.

¹⁴ Your descendants shall be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west, and to the east, and to the north and to the south. And all the families of the earth will be blessed through you and through your descendants.

⁶ I will say to the north, 'Give!' and to the south, 'You must not withhold!' Bring my sons from far away, and my daughters from the end of the earth—

⁶ And he says, "It is trivial _⌊for you to be_⌋* a servant for me,
to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to bring back the preserved of Israel. I will give you as a light to the nations, to be my salvation to the end of the earth."

² "Enlarge the site of your tent, and let them stretch out the tent curtains of your dwelling place. You must not spare; make your tent cords long and strengthen your pegs, ³ for you will spread out to the right and to the left. And your descendants* will be heir to the nations, and they will inhabit desolate towns.

¹⁸ "And I—their works and thoughts!—am about to come to gather all nations and tongues, and they shall come and see my glory. ¹⁹ And I will set a sign among them, and I will send survivors from them to the nations: Tarshish, Pul, and Lud, who draw the bow; Tubal and Javan, the faraway coastlands that have not heard of my fame, and have not seen my glory.
And they shall declare my glory among the nations, ²⁰ and bring all your countrymen* from all the nations as an offering to Yahweh on horses and chariots* and in litters and on mules and camels, to* _⌊my holy mountain_⌋,* Jerusalem," says Yahweh, "just as the sons of Israel bring an offering in a clean vessel to the house of Yahweh.

¹¹ From the rising of the sun to its setting, my name is great among the nations, and in every place incense is being presented to my name, and a pure offering. For my name is great among the nations," says Yahweh of hosts.

¹¹ But I say to you that many will come from east and west and _⌊be seated at the banquet_⌋* with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.

²⁷ And then he will send out the angels, and will gather the* elect together from the four winds, from the end of the earth to the end of heaven.

²⁸ Therefore let it be known to you that this salvation of God has been sent to the Gentiles. They also will listen!"*

⁶ that the Gentiles are fellow heirs, and fellow members of the body, and fellow sharers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel, ⁷ of which I became a servant, according to the gift of God's grace given to me, according to the working of his power. ⁸ To me, the least of all the saints, was given this grace: to proclaim the good news of the fathomless riches of Christ to the Gentiles,

⁶ that has come to you, just as also in all the world it is bearing fruit and increasing, just as also among you from the day you heard about and understood the grace of God in truth,

²³ if indeed you remain in the faith, established and steadfast and not shifted away from the hope of the gospel that you heard, which was proclaimed in all creation under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister.

⁹ After these things I looked, and behold, a great crowd that no one was able to number, from every nation and tribe and people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, dressed in white robes and with palm branches in their hands. ¹⁰ And they were crying out with a loud voice, saying,
"Salvation to our God who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb!"

³⁰ But many who are first will be last, and the last first.

²⁸ "Now what do you think? A man had two sons. He approached* the first and* said, 'Son, go work in the vineyard today.' ²⁹ And he answered and* said, 'I do not want to!' But later he changed his mind and* went. ³⁰ And he approached the second* and* said the same thing. Jesus said to them, "Truly I say to you that the tax collectors and the prostitutes are going ahead of you into the kingdom of God!

³¹ But many who are first will be last, and the last first."

⁹ for all of them sought to frighten us, saying, "their hands will not do the work." And now, God, strengthen my hands. ¹⁰ Now I went into the house of Shemaiah son of Delaiah, son of Mehetabel, who was confined at home, and he said, "Let us meet in the house of God, inside the temple, and let us close the doors of the temple; for they are coming to kill you—during the night they are coming to kill you." ¹¹ But I said, "Should a man like me run away? And would a man like me go into the temple so that he can save his life? I will not go in!"

In Yahweh I have taken refuge; how can you say to my soul, "Flee to your mountain like a bird"? ² For look: The wicked _⌊string the bow_⌋.* They have fitted their arrow to the string, to shoot from the darkness at the upright of heart.

¹ At that time Herod the tetrarch heard the report about Jesus

¹ Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar,* when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, and Herod was tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip was tetrarch of the region of Iturea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias was tetrarch of Abilene,

⁴ Your prophets have been like foxes* among ruins.

¹ And I said, "Listen, O heads of Jacob and leaders of the house of Israel! Is it not for you to know justice? ² Those of you who are haters of good and lovers of evil, who tear their skin from them and their flesh from their bones, ³ and who eat the flesh of my people, and strip their skin from them, and break their bones, and chop them like meat in the pot, and like flesh in the midst of a cooking pot."

³ Her officials in her midst are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves; they leave nothing until the morning.

¹⁴ And King Herod heard it,* because his name had become known. And they were saying, "John, the one who baptizes, has been raised from the dead, and because of this these miraculous powers are at work in him."

²⁶ And although he* was deeply grieved, the king, because of his* oaths and _⌊dinner guests_⌋,* did not want to refuse her. ²⁷ And immediately the king sent an executioner and* ordered him* to bring his head. And he went and* beheaded him in the prison. ²⁸ And he brought his head on a platter and gave it to the girl, and the girl gave it to her mother.

¹⁹ But Herod the tetrarch, who had been reproved by him concerning Herodias, his brother's wife, and concerning all the evil deeds that Herod had done, ²⁰ added this also to them all: he also locked up John in prison.

⁷ Now Herod the tetrarch heard about all that was happening, and he was greatly perplexed, because it was said by some that John has been raised from the dead, ⁸ and by some that Elijah had appeared, and others that some prophet of ancient times had risen. ⁹ And Herod said, "John I beheaded, but who is this about whom I hear such things?" And he was wanting to see him.

⁸ And when* Herod saw Jesus, he was very glad, for he had been wanting to see him for a long time, because he had heard about him and was hoping to see some miracle performed by him. ⁹ So he questioned him _⌊at considerable length_⌋,* but he answered nothing to him. ¹⁰ And the chief priests and the scribes were standing there vehemently accusing him. ¹¹ And Herod with his soldiers also treated him with contempt, and after* mocking him* and* dressing him* in glistening clothing, he sent him back to Pilate.

³² Jesus answered them, "I have shown you many good deeds from the Father. For which one of them are you going to stone me?"

⁸ The disciples said to him, "Rabbi, the Jews were seeking just now to stone you, and are you going there again?" ⁹ Jesus replied, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks around in the daylight, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world. ¹⁰ But if anyone walks around in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.

⁴ I have glorified you on earth by* completing the work that you have given me _⌊to do_⌋.* ⁵ And now, Father, you glorify me _⌊at your side_⌋* with the glory that I had _⌊at your side_⌋* before the world existed.

³⁰ Then when he had received the sour wine, Jesus said, "It is completed,"* and bowing his* head, he gave up his* spirit.

¹⁰ For it was fitting for him for whom are all things and through whom are all things in bringing many sons to glory to perfect the originator of their salvation through sufferings.

⁹ and being perfected, he became the source of eternal salvation to all those who obey him,

²⁸ For the law appoints men as high priests who have weakness, but the statement of the oath, after the law, appoints a Son, who is made perfect _⌊forever_⌋*.

¹⁸ "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death,

¹¹ And the crowds were saying, "This is the prophet Jesus from Nazareth of Galilee!"

⁵³ And they did not welcome him because _⌊he was determined to go_⌋* to Jerusalem.

³⁴ Jesus said to them, "My food is that I do the will of the one who sent me and complete his work.

⁴ It is necessary for us to do the deeds of the one who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work!

⁹ Jesus replied, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks around in the daylight, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world.

⁵⁴ So Jesus was no longer walking openly among the Jews, but went away from there to the region near the wilderness, to a city called Ephraim, and there he stayed with the disciples.

³⁵ So Jesus said to them, "Yet a little time the light is with you! Walk while you have the light, so that the darkness does not overtake you! And the one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going.

²⁷ For those who live in Jerusalem and their rulers, because they* did not recognize this one, and the voices of the prophets that are read on every Sabbath, fulfilled them* by* condemning him.*

²⁹ _⌊If only_⌋* _⌊they had such a mind_⌋';* that is, to fear me and to keep all my commandments _⌊at all times_⌋,* so that _⌊it will go well_⌋* for them and for their children _⌊forever_⌋.*

²⁹ If only they were wise, they would understand this; they would discern _⌊for themselves their end_⌋.*

¹² May Yahweh reward your work and may a full reward be given to you from Yahweh, the God of Israel, under whose wings you came to take refuge."

²¹ Then they conspired against him and stoned him with stones at the command of the king in the courtyard of the house of Yahweh. ²² So King Joash did not remember the loyal love that Jehoiada had shown to him, and he killed his son. And as he was dying he said, "May Yahweh see and avenge!"

¹⁵ And Yahweh, the God of their ancestors,* had repeatedly and persistently sent to them by the hand of his messengers, because he had compassion on his people and on his dwelling place. ¹⁶ But they were mocking the messengers of God and despising his words and scoffing at his prophets until the wrath of Yahweh rose against his people until there was no remedy.

²⁶ "But they rebelled and were rebellious against you and cast your law* behind their back and killed your prophets, who had warned them to turn back to you, and they did great blasphemies.

³⁰ You were patient toward them for many years, and you have warned them by your spirit through the hand of your prophets, but they did not listen. So you gave them into the hand of the nations of the lands.

⁸ Keep me as _⌊the apple of your eye_⌋.* Hide me in the shadow of your wings

⁷ How precious is your loyal love, O God, and the children of humankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings.

Be gracious to me, O God, be gracious to me, because in you my soul takes refuge. In the shadow of your wings I will take refuge until destruction passes by.

¹⁰ I am Yahweh your God, who brought you up from the land of Egypt. Open wide your mouth and I will fill it. ¹¹ But my people did not listen to my voice, and Israel did not yield to me.

¹³ Oh that my people would listen to me; that Israel would walk in my ways.

⁴ With his feathers he will cover you, and under his wings you can take refuge. His faithfulness will be a shield and a buckler.*

² Let Israel be glad in its maker; let the children of Zion rejoice in their king.

²⁴ Because I called out and you refused me, I stretched out my hand, yet there is none who heeds. ²⁵ You have ignored all my counsel, and my reproof you are not willing to accept. ²⁶ I will also laugh at your calamity;* I will mock when panic* comes upon you. ²⁷ When your panic comes like a storm, and your calamity arrives like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you, ²⁸ then they will call* me, but I will not answer; they will seek me diligently but not find me. ²⁹ Since they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of Yahweh, ³⁰ they were not willing to accept my counsel, they despised all my reproof.

¹⁵ For the Lord Yahweh, the holy one of Israel, said this:
"In returning and rest you shall be saved; your strength shall be in quietness and in trust."
But* you were not willing,

¹⁷ Thus says Yahweh, your redeemer, the holy one of Israel:
"I am Yahweh your God, _⌊who teaches_⌋* you to profit, leads you in the way you should go. ¹⁸ O that you had listened attentively to my commandments!
Then* your prosperity would have been like a river, and your righteousness like the waves of the sea. ¹⁹ And your offspring would have been like the sand, and the descendants of your _⌊body_⌋* like its grains.* It would not be cut off, and its name would not be destroyed from my presence."

² Why was there no man when I came, no one who answered when I called? _⌊Do I lack the strength to save_⌋?* Or is there no power in me to deliver? Look! by my rebuke I dry up the sea; I _⌊make_⌋* the rivers a desert; their fish stink because there is no water, and they* die because of thirst.

³⁰ "For _⌊in vain_⌋* I have struck your children. They accepted no discipline. Your sword devoured your prophets, like a ravening* lion.

¹⁶ Thus says Yahweh: "Stand at the roads and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the way of the good is, and walk in it, and find rest for your inner selves.* But they said, 'We will not walk in it.'*

²³ But I only commanded them this word, _⌊saying_⌋,* 'Obey my voice, and I will be to you God, and you will be to me people, and you must walk in all of the way that I command you, so that it goes well with you.' ²⁴ Yet they did not obey, and they did not incline their ear, but they walked in their own plans, in the stubbornness of their evil heart, and _⌊they became worse instead of better_⌋.*

²³ And they brought out Uriah from Egypt and they brought him to King Jehoiakim, and he struck him down with the sword, and he threw his dead body into the burial sites of the sons of the people.

¹⁴ "The words of Jonadab, the son of Rechab, that he commanded his descendants* to not drink, have been carried out, and they have not drunk until this day, for they have obeyed the command of their ancestor.* But _⌊I have spoken to you over and over again_⌋,* and you have not listened to me.

⁴ And I sent to you all my servants the prophets, _⌊sending over and over again_⌋,* _⌊saying_⌋,* "Please, you must not do this detestable thing that I hate." ⁵ But they did not listen and they did not incline their ears* to turn back from their wickedness, to not make smoke offerings to other gods. ⁶ So my wrath and my anger were poured out* and burned* in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, and they became as a site of ruins, as a desolation, as they are this day.'

¹⁶ For these things, I am weeping, _⌊my eyes flow with tears_⌋;* because a comforter is far from me, one to restore my life. My sons are desolate because the enemy has prevailed.

¹³ Because of the sins of her prophets, the guilt of her priests, who shed blood in her midst, of righteous people.

² When I called* them, they went from my face.* They sacrificed to the Baals, and they sacrificed to idols.

⁷ My people are bent on backsliding from me. To the Most High they call, he does not raise them at all.

²³ Be glad, O children of Zion, be glad and rejoice in Yahweh your God, because he has given for you the autumn rains for your righteousness,* and he has _⌊poured down_⌋* for you rainwater, the autumn and spring rains, as before.

⁴ "Do not be like your ancestors,* to whom the former prophets proclaimed, saying, 'Thus says Yahweh of hosts: "Return from your evil ways and your evil deeds!" ' But they did not hear* and they did not pay attention* to me," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh.

³⁵ And the tenant farmers seized his slaves, one of whom they beat, and one of whom they killed, and one of whom they stoned. ³⁶ Again, he sent other slaves, more than the first ones, and they did the same thing to them.

³ And he sent his slaves to summon those who had been invited to the wedding celebration, and they did not want to come.

⁶ And the others, seizing his slaves, mistreated them* and killed them.*

³⁷ "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How many times I wanted to gather your children together _⌊the way_⌋* a hen gathers her young together under her* wings, and you were not willing! ³⁸ Behold, your house has been left to you desolate! ³⁹ For I tell you, you will never see me from now on until you say,
'Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!'"*

²⁸ But he became angry and did not want to go in. So his father came out and* began to implore* him.

⁴¹ And when he approached and* saw the city, he wept over it, ⁴² saying, "If you had known on this day—even you—the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes.

⁴⁴ And they will raze you to the ground, you and your children within you, and will not leave a stone upon a stone within you, _⌊because_⌋* you did not recognize the time of your visitation."

²⁸ But turning to them, Jesus said, "Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children!

¹⁴ But you denied the Holy and Righteous One and demanded that a man—a murderer—be granted to you. ¹⁵ And you killed the originator of life, whom God raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses!

⁵² Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who announced beforehand about the coming of the Righteous One, whose betrayers and murderers you have now become,

⁵⁹ And they kept on stoning Stephen as he* was calling out and saying, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!"

¹ And Saul was agreeing with his murder. Now there happened on that day a great persecution against the church in Jerusalem, and they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles.

²⁵ Now Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is a slave with her children. ²⁶ But the Jerusalem above is free, which is our mother.

⁸ And their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city which is called symbolically Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified.

³¹ And I will lay your cities in ruins, and I will lay waste your sanctuaries; and I shall not smell your sacrifices'* appeasing fragrance. ³² And I myself* will lay waste the land, and your enemies who are living in it shall be appalled over it.

²⁵ Let their camp be desolate. Let none dwell in their tents,

²⁶ Blessed is he who comes in the name of Yahweh. We bless you* from the house* of Yahweh.

⁷ Your country is desolate, your cities are burned with fire; As for your land, aliens are devouring it in your presence, and it is desolate, like devastation by foreigners. ⁸ And the daughter of Zion is left like a booth in a vineyard, like a shelter in a cucumber field, like a city that is besieged.*

⁵ And now let me tell you what I myself am about to do to my vineyard.
I will remove its hedge, and it shall become a devastation. I will break down its wall, and it shall become a trampling. ⁶ And I will make it a wasteland; it shall not be pruned and hoed, and it shall be overgrown with briers* and thornbushes.* And concerning the clouds, I will command _⌊them not to send_⌋* rain down upon it.

⁹ _⌊Get yourself_⌋* up to a high mountain, Zion, bringer of good news! Lift up your voice with strength, Jerusalem, bringer of good news! Lift it up; you must not fear! Say to the cities of Judah, "Here is your God!" ¹⁰ Look! The Lord Yahweh comes with _⌊strength_⌋,* and his arm rules for him. Look! His reward is with him, and his recompense _⌊in his presence_⌋.* ¹¹ He will feed his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arm, and he will carry them in his bosom; he will lead those who nurse.

⁷ How delightful on the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who announces peace, who brings good news, who announces salvation, who says to Zion, "Your God reigns as a king."

¹⁰ _⌊Your holy cities_⌋* have become a wilderness; Zion has become a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation. ¹¹ _⌊Our holy and beautiful temple_⌋,* where our ancestors* praised you has _⌊been burned_⌋* by fire, and all our precious objects have become ruins.*

⁵ But if you do not obey these words, I swear by myself," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "that this house will become a site of ruins." '"

²⁶ "And after the sixty and two weeks an anointed one* shall be cut off, and _⌊he shall have nothing_⌋,* and the people of the coming leader will destroy the city and the sanctuary,* and its end will be with the flood and on to the end there shall be war; these desolations are determined. ²⁷ And he will make a strong covenant with the many for one week, but in half of the week he will let cease sacrifice and offering _⌊and in its place_⌋* a desolating abomination comes even until _⌊the determined complete destruction_⌋* is poured out on the desolator."

⁴ The children of Israel will remain for many days without a king and prince, without sacrifice and stone pillar, ephod and teraphim. ⁵ Afterward the children of Israel will return and seek Yahweh their God and David their king. They will come in fear to Yahweh and to his goodness at the end of days.

¹² Therefore on account of you Zion will be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem will be a heap of rubble, and _⌊the temple mount_⌋* as a high place in a forest.

¹ Open your doors, O Lebanon,
so that fire will devour your cedars! ² Wail, O juniper,* for the cedar has fallen, for the magnificent trees are ruined! Wail, oaks of Bashan, for the impenetrable forest has come down!

¹⁰ " 'I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants* of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication, and they will look to me whom they pierced, and they shall mourn over him, as one wails over an only child, and they will grieve bitterly over him as one grieves bitterly over a firstborn.

² I will gather all the nations against Jerusalem to battle, and the city will be captured, and they will loot the houses, and the women will be raped; half of the city will go into exile, but the remainder of the people will not be cut off from the city.

⁹ And the crowds who went ahead of him and the ones who followed were shouting, saying,
"Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!* Hosanna in the highest heaven!"*

⁹ And those who went ahead and those who were following were shouting,
"Hosanna! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!* ¹⁰ Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David! Hosanna in the highest heaven!"*

⁵ And while* some were speaking about the temple, that it was adorned with precious stones and votive offerings, he said, ⁶ "As for these things that you see—days will come in which not one stone will be left on another stone that will not be thrown down!"

²⁴ and they will fall by the edge of the sword, and will be led captive into all the nations,* and Jerusalem will be trampled down by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.

³⁴ You will seek me and will not find me,** and where I am, you cannot come." ³⁵ So the Jews said to one another, "Where is this one going to go, that we will not find him? He is not going to go to the Dispersion among the Greeks and teach the Greeks, is he?* ³⁶ What is this saying that he said, 'You will seek me and will not find me,** and where I am, you cannot come'?"

²² Then the Jews began to say,* "Perhaps he will kill himself, because he is saying, 'Where I am going you cannot come.'" ²³ And he said to them, "You are from below; I am from above. You are from this world; I am not from this world. ²⁴ Thus I said to you that you will die in your sins. For if you do not believe that I am he, you will die in your sins."

¹³ took the branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, and began crying out,
"Hosanna! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord,* even the king of Israel!"

³⁵ So Jesus said to them, "Yet a little time the light is with you! Walk while you have the light, so that the darkness does not overtake you! And the one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going. ³⁶ While you have the light, believe in the light, in order that you may become sons of light." Jesus said these things, and then he went away and* was hidden from them.

¹⁹ Yet a little time and the world will see me no longer, but you will see me; because I live, you also will live. ²⁰ On that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. ²¹ The one who has my commandments and keeps them—that one is the one who loves me. And the one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and will reveal myself to him." ²² Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, "Lord, why* is it that you are going to reveal yourself to us and not to the world?" ²³ Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves me he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and _⌊will take up residence with him_⌋.*

¹³ And they put forward false witnesses who said, "This man does not stop speaking words against the holy place* and the law! ¹⁴ For we have heard him saying that this Nazarene Jesus will destroy this place and will change the customs that Moses handed down to us."

⁹ that* if you confess with your mouth "Jesus is Lord" and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. ¹⁰ For with the heart one believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth one confesses, resulting in salvation. ¹¹ For the scripture says, "Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame."* ¹² For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord is Lord of all, who is rich to all who call upon him. ¹³ For "everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved."* ¹⁴ How then will they call upon him in whom they have not believed? And how will they believe in him about whom they have not heard? And how will they hear about him without one who preaches to them? ¹⁵ And how will they preach, unless they are sent? Just as it is written, "How timely are the feet of those who bring good news of good things."*

¹⁵ But until today, whenever Moses is read aloud, a veil lies upon their heart, ¹⁶ but whenever one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. ¹⁷ Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. ¹⁸ And we all, with unveiled face, reflecting* the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory into glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.
