¹ Then* Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said, ² "Can a man be of use to God? Yes, can the wise be of use to him? ³ Is it a pleasure to Shaddai if you are righteous, or* a gain if you make your ways blameless? ⁴ Does he reprove you because of your reverence or enter into judgment with you? ⁵ Is not your wickedness great, and there is no end to your iniquities? ⁶ "Indeed, you have required a pledge from your family for nothing, and you have stripped off the clothes of the naked. ⁷ You have given no water for the weary to drink, and you withheld food from the hungry. ⁸ And the land _⌊belongs to the man of power_⌋,* and _⌊the favored_⌋* lives in it. ⁹ You have sent widows away empty-handed, and the arms of orphans were crushed. ¹⁰ Therefore trapping nets are all around you, and panic suddenly terrifies you, ¹¹ or it is so dark you cannot see, and a flood of water covers you. ¹² "Is not God in the height of the heavens? But* see how lofty are _⌊the highest stars_⌋.* ¹³ And you ask, 'What does God know? Can he judge through deep gloom? ¹⁴ Thick clouds are a covering for him, so that he does not see; and he walks about on the dome of heaven.' ¹⁵ Will you keep to the way of old that the people of mischief have trod, ¹⁶ who were snatched away _⌊before their time_⌋,* whose foundation was washed away by a current? ¹⁷ Those who said to God, 'Turn away from us,' and 'What can Shaddai do to us?' ¹⁸ Yet* he himself* filled up their houses with good things, but* the schemes of the wicked are repugnant to me. ¹⁹ The righteous see, and they rejoice, but* the innocent one mocks at them. ²⁰ _⌊Surely_⌋* our foe perishes, and fire has consumed their remainder.* ²¹ "Please reconcile yourself with him, and be at peace; _⌊in this way_⌋,* good will come to you. ²² Please receive instruction from his mouth, and place his words in your heart. ²³ If you return to Shaddai, you will be restored; if you remove wickedness from your tent, ²⁴ and if you put gold ore in the dust, and the gold of Ophir in the rock of wadis, ²⁵ then* Shaddai will be your gold ore and _⌊your precious silver_⌋.* ²⁶ Indeed, then you will delight yourself in Shaddai, and _⌊you will expect that God will be good to you_⌋.* ²⁷ You will pray to him, and he will hear you, and you will pay your vows. ²⁸ And you will decide on a matter, and it will be established for you, and light will shine on your ways. ²⁹ When they are humiliated, _⌊you say_⌋,* 'It is pride,' for* he saves _⌊the humble_⌋.* ³⁰ He will deliver the guilty, and he will escape because of the cleanness of your hands."

¹³ to keep the commandments of Yahweh and his statutes that I am commanding you today _⌊for your own good_⌋.*

¹⁵ Who is Shaddai that we should serve him, or* what would we benefit when we plead with him?'

⁶ If you have sinned, what do you accomplish against him? And if your transgressions are multiplied, what do you do to him? ⁷ If you are righteous, what do you give to him, or what does he receive from your hand? ⁸ Your wickedness affects a person like yourself, and your righteousness affects humans.

² Oh my soul you have said* to Yahweh, "You are my Lord. I have no good apart from you."

¹³ Happy is _⌊the one_⌋* who finds wisdom, and one who obtains understanding. ¹⁴ For her* income is better than the income of silver, and her revenue than that of gold. ¹⁵ She is more precious than rubies, and all your desires shall not compare with her. ¹⁶ Length of days is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. ¹⁷ Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. ¹⁸ She is a tree of life for those who seize her; those who take hold of her are considered happy.

⁷ The beginning of wisdom: Get wisdom! With all that is in your possession, gain insight. ⁸ Cherish her and she will exalt you; she will honor you if you embrace her. ⁹ She will give a garland for your head; she shall bestow a crown of glory upon you."

¹² If you are wise, you are wise for yourself, and if you scoff, alone you shall bear it.

¹¹ Wisdom is good with an inheritance; _⌊it benefits the living_⌋.* ¹² _⌊For wisdom offers protection like money offers protection_⌋.* But knowledge has an advantage—wisdom restores life to its possessor.

²⁹ And if your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it from you! For it is better for you that one of your members be destroyed than your whole body be thrown into hell.

¹⁰ Thus you also, when you have done all the _⌊things you were ordered to do_⌋,* say, 'We are unworthy slaves; we have done what we were obligated to do.'"

⁷ Do not be deceived: God is not to be mocked, for whatever a person sows, this he will also reap, ⁸ because the one who sows to his own flesh will reap corruption from the flesh, but the one who sows to the Spirit will reap eternal life from the Spirit.

¹⁷ And I know, my God, that you yourself test the heart and are pleased with uprightness. I, in the uprightness of my heart, have willingly offered all these things, and now I have seen your people who are found here willingly offer to you.

¹⁰ But he knows _⌊the way that I take_⌋;* he tests me—I shall come out like gold. ¹¹ My foot has held on to his steps; I have kept his way, and I have not turned aside. ¹² From the commandment of his lips, indeed* I have not departed; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily food.

I said, "I will guard my ways _⌊that I may not sin_⌋* with my tongue. I will keep a muzzle over my mouth as long as the wicked are before me."

³ They also do no wrong; they walk in his ways. ⁴ You have commanded* your precepts, that we should keep them diligently. ⁵ Oh that my ways were steadfast, to keep your statutes! ⁶ Then I would not be ashamed when I look to all your commands.

⁵⁹ I think about my ways, and turn my feet to your testimonies.

¹⁰ He does not delight in the strength of the horse; he takes no pleasure in the legs of the man. ¹¹ Yahweh takes pleasure in those who fear him, the ones who hope* for his loyal love.

¹ Balances of deceit are an abomination of Yahweh, but _⌊an accurate weight_⌋* delights him.

²⁰ An abomination of Yahweh are the _⌊crooked of heart_⌋,* but his delight are _⌊those with blameless ways_⌋.*

²² An abomination of Yahweh are lips of deceit, but they who act faithfully are his delight.

⁸ The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination of Yahweh, but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

¹⁷ You have wearied Yahweh with your words, but you ask, "With what have we wearied him?" You have done so _⌊when you say_⌋,* "Everyone who does evil is good in the _⌊sight_⌋* of Yahweh, and in them he delights," or "Where is the God of justice?"

¹⁶ _⌊For this reason_⌋* also I myself _⌊always_⌋* do my best to have a clear conscience toward God and people.

¹ Therefore since we* have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of body and spirit, accomplishing holiness in the fear of God.

¹⁸ But I have received everything in full and have an abundance; _⌊I am well supplied_⌋* because* I received from Epaphroditus _⌊what you had sent_⌋*, a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, well-pleasing to God.

¹² Am I the sea, or a sea monster, that you set a guard over me?

¹⁹ If _⌊it is a matter of_⌋* strength, look, he is mighty. But* if _⌊it is a matter of_⌋* justice, who can summon me?*

³² "For* he is not a mortal like me that I can answer him, that _⌊we can come to trial together_⌋.*

³ Even on such a one you fix your eyes, and you bring me into judgment with you.

²¹ and it argues* for a mortal with God, and as _⌊a human_⌋* for his friend.

²⁹ be afraid for yourselves _⌊because of the sword_⌋,* for wrath brings punishment by* the sword, so that you may know that there is judgment."

⁶ Would he contend with me in the greatness of his strength? No, but he himself* would give heed to me. ⁷ There an upright person could reason with him, and I would be acquitted forever by my judge.

²³ Indeed, he has not yet appointed a time for man to go to God in the judgment.

¹¹ When with rebukes you chastise a man for sin, you* _⌊consume_⌋* like a moth his delightful things. Surely everyone is a mere vapor.* Selah

⁶ At your rebuke, O God of Jacob, both rider* and horse slumber.

¹⁶ It is burned with fire, cut down. They perish at the rebuke of your face.

³ If you, O Yah,* should _⌊keep track of_⌋* iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? ⁴ But with you is forgiveness, so that you may be feared."

² And do not enter into judgment with your servant, because no one alive is righteous before you.

¹⁴ For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or evil.

¹⁴ Yahweh enters into judgment with the elders of his people and its princes. "And you! You have devoured the vineyard; the spoil of the poor is in your houses! ¹⁵ _⌊Why_⌋* do you crush my people and grind the face of the poor?"
_⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh of hosts.

¹⁹ As many as I love, I reprove and discipline. Be zealous, therefore, and repent!

⁷ "_⌊Think_⌋* now, who has perished who is innocent? Or* where are the upright destroyed? ⁸ Just as I have seen, plowers of mischief and sowers of trouble will reap it. ⁹ By* the breath of God they perish, and by* the blast of his anger they come to an end. ¹⁰ The roar of the lion and the voice of a lion in its prime, and the teeth of the young lions are broken. ¹¹ The lion is perishing without* prey, and the lion's whelps are scattered.

⁶ and that he would tell you the secrets of wisdom, for _⌊insight has many sides_⌋.* And know that God _⌊on your behalf_⌋* has forgotten _⌊some of_⌋* your guilt.

¹⁴ if iniquity* is in your hand, put it far away, and you must not let wickedness reside in your tents—

⁵ For your iniquity teaches your mouth, and you choose the tongue of the crafty. ⁶ Your mouth condemns you, and not I; and your lips testify against you.

³¹ Let him not trust in emptiness—he will be deceiving himself— for worthlessness will be his recompense. ³² It will be paid in full _⌊before his time_⌋,* and his branch will not flourish. ³³ "He will shake off his unripe fruit like the vine, and he will cast off his blossom like the olive tree; ³⁴ for the company of the godless is barren, and fire consumes the tents of those who accept bribes.

²⁷ "Look, I know your* thoughts and the schemes you devise against me.

³ and _⌊he became angry_⌋* at his three friends because they had not found an answer, and they had declared Job guilty.

¹² Who can perceive his errors? Acquit me from hidden faults.

¹² For evils without number have encompassed me. My iniquities have overtaken me, so that I am not able to see. They are more than the hairs of my head, and my heart fails me.

²⁶ If indeed you require the cloak of your neighbor as a pledge, you will return it to him at sundown,

⁶ "A person* shall not take* a pair of millstones or an upper millstone, for _⌊he is taking necessities of life as a pledge_⌋.*

¹⁰ "When you make a loan to your neighbor, a loan of any kind, you shall not go into his house _⌊to take his pledge_⌋.* ¹¹ You shall wait outside, and the man to whom you are lending, he shall bring the pledge outside to you. ¹² And if he is a needy man, you shall not sleep in his pledge.* ¹³ You shall certainly return the pledge to him _⌊as the sun sets_⌋,* so that he may sleep in his cloak and may bless you, and it shall be considered righteousness _⌊on your behalf_⌋* _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh your God. ¹⁴ "You shall not exploit a hired worker, who is needy and poor, from among your fellow men or from among your aliens* who are in your land and in your _⌊towns_⌋.* ¹⁵ On his day you shall give his wage, and the sun shall not go _⌊down_⌋,* because he is poor and _⌊his life depends on it_⌋;* do this so that he does not cry out against you to Yahweh, _⌊and you incur guilt_⌋.* ¹⁶ "Fathers shall not be put to death because of their children, and children shall not be put to death because of their fathers; each one shall be put to death for his own sin. ¹⁷ You shall not subvert the rights of an alien or an orphan, and you shall not take as pledge the garment of a widow. ¹⁸ And you shall remember that you were a slave in Egypt and that Yahweh your God redeemed you from there; therefore I am commanding you to do this commandment.

³ They drive away the donkey of orphans; they take the widow's ox as a pledge.

⁹ "They* snatch the orphan from the breast, and they take a pledge against the needy.* ¹⁰ They* go about naked, without clothing, and hungry, they carry the sheaves.*

¹⁹ if I have seen the one who perishes because of no clothing or* that there is no covering for the poor, ²⁰ if his loins have not blessed me, or* by means of my sheep's fleece he has warmed himself,

⁷ and he oppresses _⌊no one_⌋* and he returns a pledge for his loan _⌊and he commits no robbery_⌋* and he gives* his bread to the hungry and he covers a naked person with a garment,

¹² He oppresses the needy and the poor, and _⌊he commits robbery_⌋,* and he does not return a pledge for a loan, and he lifts his eyes to the idols so he does a detestable thing.

¹⁶ And he oppresses no one; he requires no pledge for a loan, and _⌊he does not commit robbery_⌋;* he gives his bread to the hungry, and he covers the naked person with a garment.

⁸ They stretch themselves out beside every altar on clothing taken in pledge and they drink wine, bought with fines imposed,* in the house of their God.

⁷ If there is a poor person among you from among one of your brothers in one of your _⌊towns_⌋* that Yahweh your God is giving to you, you shall not harden your heart, and you shall not shut your hand toward _⌊your brother who is poor_⌋.* ⁸ But you shall certainly open your hand for him, and _⌊you shall willingly lend_⌋* to him enough to meet his need, _⌊whatever it is_⌋.* ⁹ _⌊Take care_⌋* so that there* will not be _⌊a thought of wickedness_⌋* in your heart, _⌊saying_⌋,* 'The seventh year, the year of the remission of debt is near,' _⌊and you view your needy neighbor with hostility_⌋,* and so you do not give to him, and he might cry out against you to Yahweh, and _⌊you would incur guilt against yourself_⌋.* ¹⁰ By all means you must give to him, and _⌊you must not be discontented_⌋* at your giving to him, because on account of this very thing, Yahweh your God will bless you in all your work and _⌊in all that you undertake_⌋.* ¹¹ For the poor* will not cease to be _⌊among you_⌋* in the land; therefore I am commanding you, _⌊saying_⌋,* 'You shall willingly open your hand to your brother, to your needy and to your poor that are in your land.'

¹⁷ or I have eaten my morsel _⌊alone_⌋,* and the orphan has not eaten from it

³¹ _⌊Have the people of my tent not said_⌋,* '_⌊O that_⌋* someone* had not been satisfied with his meat'?

⁹ _⌊He gives lavishly_⌋* to the needy; his righteousness endures forever. His horn rises high in honor.

²⁴ There is one who gives yet _⌊grows richer_⌋,* but he who withholds _⌊what is right_⌋* only finds need. ²⁵ A person of blessing will be enriched, and he who gives water also will be refreshed.

¹⁷ He who lends to Yahweh is he who is kind to the poor, and his benefits he will repay to him.

⁷ Is it not to break your bread for the hungry? You must bring _⌊home_⌋* the poor, the homeless. When you see the naked, you must cover him, and you must not hide yourself from your _⌊relatives_⌋.*

¹⁰ if* you offer your soul to the hungry, and you satisfy the appetite of the afflicted, then* your light shall rise in the darkness, and your darkness will be like noon.

⁴² For I was hungry and you did not give me anything* to eat, I was thirsty and you did not give me anything* to drink,

²⁰ But "if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by* doing this, you will heap up coals of fire upon his head."*

¹¹ The men of his city and the elders and nobles who were living in his city did according to what Jezebel had sent to them, as was written in the letters which she had sent to them. ¹² They called a fast, and they seated Naboth at the head of the people. ¹³ Then the two men, _⌊scoundrels_⌋,* came, sat opposite him, and the _⌊scoundrels_⌋* witnessed against Naboth before the people, saying, "Naboth cursed God and the king," so they brought him outside of the city and stoned him with stones, and he died. ¹⁴ They sent to Jezebel saying, "Naboth has been stoned, and he is dead." ¹⁵ It happened at the moment Jezebel heard that Naboth had been stoned and died, Jezebel said to Ahab, "Get up, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite which he had refused to give to you for money, for Naboth is not alive, but dead."

⁸ _⌊Will you* show partiality for him_⌋?* Or do you* want to plead God's case?

⁷ "At my going out the gate to the city, I secured my seat in the square. ⁸ Young men saw me and stepped aside, and the aged rose up and stood. ⁹ Officials refrained from talking, and they laid their hand on their mouth. ¹⁰ The voices* of nobles were hushed, and their tongue stuck to their palate. ¹¹ "When the ear heard and commended me, and the eye saw and testified in support of me ¹² because I saved the needy who cried for help, and I saved* the orphan for whom there was no helper. ¹³ The blessing of the wretched came upon me, and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy. ¹⁴ I put on righteousness, and it clothed me; my justice was like a robe and a headband. ¹⁵ "I was eyes to the blind, and I was feet to the lame. ¹⁶ I was a father to the poor, and I investigated _⌊the stranger's_⌋* legal dispute. ¹⁷ And I broke the evil one's jaw bones, and I made his prey drop from his teeth.

³⁴ because I dreaded the great multitude, and the contempt of clans terrified me, so that I kept quiet, I did not go out of the doorway?

⁸ The wicked prowl about when vileness is exalted among the children of humankind.

³ captain of fifty and the honorable men of rank, and counselor and skillful magicians and skillful enchanter.

¹⁵ Elders* and _⌊the respectable_⌋* are the head, and prophets* who teach lies* are the tail.

³ Their hands are upon evil, to do it well; the official and the judge ask for the bribe, and the great man utters the evil desire of his soul; and they weave it together.

²¹ " 'You will not mistreat an alien, and you will not oppress him, because you were aliens in the land of Egypt. ²² " 'You will not afflict any widow or orphan. ²³ If you indeed afflict him, yes, if he cries out at all to me, I will certainly hear his cry of distress. ²⁴ And _⌊I will become angry_⌋,* and I will kill you with the sword, and your wives will be widows and your children orphans.

¹⁹ 'Cursed be the one who deprives the alien, the orphan, and the widow of justice.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.'

²¹ He feeds on the barren, who does not have a child, and does no good to the widow.

¹² because I saved the needy who cried for help, and I saved* the orphan for whom there was no helper. ¹³ The blessing of the wretched came upon me, and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy.

¹⁶ "If I have withheld the desire of the poor from them, or* I have caused the widow's eyes to fail, ¹⁷ or I have eaten my morsel _⌊alone_⌋,* and the orphan has not eaten from it ¹⁸ (for from my childhood he* _⌊grew up with_⌋* me like a father, and from my mother's womb I guided her*),

²¹ if I have raised my hand against an orphan because I saw my supporters at the gate,

¹⁵ Break the arm of the wicked, and as for the evil man— seek out his wickedness until you find none.

¹⁷ For the arms of the wicked shall be broken, but Yahweh supports the righteous.

⁶ They kill widow and stranger, and they murder orphans,

¹⁷ Learn to do good! Seek justice! Rescue the oppressed! Defend the orphan! Plead for the widow!

²³ Your princes are rebels and companions of thieves. Every one loves a bribe and runs after gifts. They do not defend the orphan and the legal dispute of the widow does not come before them.

² to guide the needy away from legal claims,* and to rob the justice from the poor of my people, to make widows their spoil; and they plunder orphans.

⁷ They have treated father and mother with contempt in you; _⌊they violated_⌋* the alien with* extortion; in the midst of you they mistreated the orphan and widow.

²² Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: "Look! I am against Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, and I will break his strong arm and the broken arm, and I will let the sword fall from his hand.

⁵ "Then I will approach you for judgment, and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers and against the adulterers, and against those who swear _⌊falsely_⌋,* and against the oppressors of the hired worker with his wages, the widow and the orphan, and _⌊the abusers of_⌋* the alien,* and yet do not fear me," says Yahweh of hosts.

³ And there was a widow in that town, and she kept coming to him, saying, 'Grant me justice against my adversary!' ⁴ And he was not willing for a time, but after these things he said to himself, 'Even if I do not fear God or respect people, ⁵ yet because this widow is causing trouble for me, I will grant her justice, so that she does not wear me down in the end by her* coming back!'"

⁴ for the arrows of Shaddai are in me; my spirit drinks their poison; the terrors of God are arrayed against me.

²¹ withdraw your* hand from me, and let not your* dread terrify me.

⁸ for he is thrust into a net by his feet, and he walks into a pitfall. ⁹ A trap seizes him by the heel; a snare takes hold of him. ¹⁰ His rope is hidden in the ground, and his trap on the path.

⁶ know then that God has wronged me and has surrounded me with his net.

⁶ He will rain coals* on the wicked. Burning sulfur and scorching wind will be the portion of their cup.

²⁷ When your panic comes like a storm, and your calamity arrives like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you,

²⁵ Do not be afraid of sudden panic,* or the storm of wickedness that will come. ²⁶ Yahweh will be _⌊your confidence_⌋* and guard your foot from capture.

³ Whenever they say "Peace and security," then sudden destruction will overtake them like the birth pains of _⌊a pregnant woman_⌋*, and they will not possibly escape.

¹⁴ In the daytime they meet with darkness, and they grope at noon* as in the night.

⁶ The light becomes dark in his tent, and his lamp above him is put out.

¹⁸ "They thrust him from light into darkness, and they drive him out from the world.

⁸ He has walled up my way so that* I cannot pass; and he has set darkness upon my paths.

³⁴ Can you lift up your voice to the clouds so that* a flood of water may cover you?

⁷ Deep is calling to deep at* the thunder of your waterfalls. All your breakers and your waves have passed over me.

Save me, O God, because waters have come up to my neck.* ² I sink in the mud of the deep, and there is no foothold. I have come to watery depths, and the torrent floods over me.

⁴ Then the waters would have flooded over us, the torrent would have passed over our soul. ⁵ Then over our soul would have passed the raging waters."

¹⁹ The way of the wicked ones is like deep darkness; they do not know what they stumble over.

²² or look to the earth. But look! Distress and darkness, the gloom of affliction! And it will be thrust into darkness!

² He has driven me along, he brought darkness and not light.

⁵⁴ Water has flown over my head, I said, "I am cut off."

² A day of darkness and gloom, a day of cloud and thick darkness, like the dawn spreads on the mountains, a great and strong army! There has been nothing like it from old, and after it nothing will be again _⌊for generations to come_⌋.* ³ _⌊Before them_⌋* a fire devours, and behind them a flame burns. Like the garden of Eden is the land _⌊before them_⌋,* and after them it is like a desolate desert, and nothing can escape them.

³ And you threw me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the sea currents surrounded me; all your breakers and your surging waves passed over me.

¹² But the sons of the kingdom will be thrown out into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth!"

⁸ _⌊It is higher than the heaven_⌋;* what can you do? It is deeper than Sheol; what can you know?

³ When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars which you set in place— ⁴ what is a human being that you think of him? and a child of humankind that you care for him?

³ But our God is in the heavens; all that he desires, he does.

¹⁶ The heavens are Yahweh's heavens, but the earth he has given to the children of humankind.

² Do not be rash with your mouth, and do not let your heart be quick to utter a word before God. For God is in heaven, and you are on earth; therefore, let your words be few.

¹⁵ For thus says the high and lofty one who resides forever, and whose name is holy:
"I reside in a high and holy place, and with the _⌊contrite_⌋* and humble of spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the _⌊contrite_⌋.*

¹ Thus says Yahweh:
"Heaven is my throne, and the earth is the footstool for my feet. Where is this house that you would build for me? And where is this resting place for me?

¹¹ He says in his heart, "God has forgotten. He has hidden his face. He never sees."

⁷ Look, they pour out talk with their mouth. Swords are on their lips, for they say, "Who hears?"

⁵ They encourage themselves in the evil matter. They talk of secretly laying snares. They say, "Who will see them?"

¹¹ And they say, "How does God know?" and, "Does the Most High have knowledge?"

⁷ while* they say, "Yah* does not see," and "The God of Jacob does not pay attention." ⁸ You pay attention, O brutes among the people. And you fools, when you will show insight? ⁹ Will the one who planted the ear not hear? Will the one who formed the eye not see?

¹⁵ Ah! Those who make a plan deep, to hide it from Yahweh, and their deeds are* in a dark place. And they say, "Who sees us? And who knows us?"

¹² And he said to me, "Have you seen, son of man,* what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the dark, each in the inner rooms of his idol, for they are saying, 'Yahweh is not seeing us; Yahweh has abandoned the land.'"

⁹ And he said to me, "The guilt of the house of Israel and Judah is _⌊exceedingly_⌋* great, and the land is filled with bloodguilt, and the city is full of injustice. For they say Yahweh abandoned the land, and _⌊Yahweh does not see_⌋.*

¹² And it shall be that at that time I will search Jerusalem with lamps, and I will punish the men _⌊whose senses are dulled from drinking_⌋,* who say in their hearts, 'Yahweh will not do good, nor will he do evil.'

⁹ He covers the face of the full moon;* he spreads his cloud over it.

²² There is no darkness, and there is no deep shadow where instigators of mischief might hide themselves.

¹⁴ From his dwelling place* he gazes on all the inhabitants of the earth,

² Cloud and thick darkness are surrounding him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.

O Yahweh, you have searched me, and you know me. ² You know my sitting down and my rising up. You understand my thought from afar.

¹¹ And if I should say, "Surely darkness will cover me, and the light around me will be as night," ¹² even the darkness is not too dark for you,* and the night shines as the day— the darkness and the light are alike for you.

²⁴ Or can a person hide himself in secret places and I cannot see him?" _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh. "Do I not fill up the heaven and the earth?" _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh.

² But nothing is concealed that will not be revealed, and secret that will not be made known. ³ Therefore everything that you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what _⌊you have whispered_⌋* in the inner rooms will be proclaimed on the housetops.

⁵ And Yahweh saw that the evil of humankind was great upon the earth, and every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was always* only evil.

¹¹ And the earth was corrupted before God, and the earth was filled with violence. ¹² And God saw the earth, and behold, it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted its way upon the earth. ¹³ And God said to Noah, "The end of all flesh has come before me, for the earth was filled with violence because of them. Now, look, I am going to destroy them along with the earth.

²⁶ And just as it was in the days of Noah, so also it will be in the days of the Son of Man— ²⁷ they were eating, they were drinking, they were marrying, they were being given in marriage, until the day Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.

¹¹ In the six hundredth year of the life of Noah, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month—on that day all the springs of the great deep were split open, and the windows of heaven were opened.

¹⁷ And the flood came forty days and forty nights upon the earth. And the waters increased, and lifted the ark, and it rose up from the earth. ¹⁸ And the waters prevailed and increased greatly upon the earth. And the ark went upon the surface* of the waters. ¹⁹ And the waters prevailed _⌊overwhelmingly_⌋* upon the earth, and they covered all the high mountains which were under the entire heaven.* ²⁰ _⌊The waters swelled fifteen cubits above the mountains, covering them_⌋.* ²¹ And every living thing that moved on the earth perished—the birds, and the domesticated animals, and the wild animals, and everything that swarmed on the earth, and all humankind. ²² Everything in whose nostrils was _⌊the breath of life_⌋,* among all that was on dry land, died. ²³ And he* blotted out every living thing upon the surface of the ground, from humankind, to animals, to creeping things, and to the birds of heaven;* they were blotted out from the earth. Only Noah and those who were with him in the ark remained. ²⁴ And the waters prevailed over the earth one hundred and fifty days.

¹⁹ Water wears away stones; its torrents wash away the soil of the earth; so* you destroy the hope of human beings.

³² It will be paid in full _⌊before his time_⌋,* and his branch will not flourish.

²³ But you, O God, you will bring them down to the pit of corruption. The men of bloodshed and deceit will not live half their days, but I will trust you.

²⁴ I say, "My God, do not carry me off from my life in the middle of my days." Your years continue throughout all generations.

¹⁷ Do not act excessively wicked, and do not be a fool, lest you die before your time.

²⁶ And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. ²⁷ And the rain came down and the rivers came and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it collapsed, and its fall was great."

³⁷ For just as the days of Noah were, so the coming of the Son of Man will be. ³⁸ For as in the days* before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah entered into the ark. ³⁹ And they did not know anything* until the deluge came and swept them* all away. So also the coming of the Son of Man will be.

¹⁹ in which also he went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison, ²⁰ who were formerly disobedient, when the patience of God waited in the days of Noah, while* an ark was being constructed, in which a few—that is, eight souls—were rescued through water.

⁵ and did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a proclaimer of righteousness, _⌊and seven others_⌋* when he* brought a flood on the world of the ungodly,

¹⁰ His bull breeds and does not fail; his cow calves and does not miscarry.

¹⁴ And they say to God, 'Turn away from us, for* we do not desire to know your ways. ¹⁵ Who is Shaddai that we should serve him, or* what would we benefit when we plead with him?'

⁶ Many are saying, "Who will show us something good?" Lift up over* us the light of your face, O Yahweh.

¹¹ turn aside from the way, turn aside from the path, put an end to the holy one of Israel from our face."

¹⁴ You have said, 'It is useless* to serve God! What is the gain if we keep* his requirements, and if we walk as mourners _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh of hosts?

²⁹ And behold, they cried out, saying, "_⌊What do you have to do with us_⌋,* Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?"*

³⁴ And behold, the whole town came out to meet Jesus, and when they* saw him, they implored him* that he would depart from their region.

²⁸ And just as they did not see fit _⌊to recognize God_⌋*, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do the things that are not proper,

⁷ Yahweh makes poor and makes rich; he brings low and also exalts.

⁶ The tents of the destroyers are at peace, and there is security for those who provoke God, for those whom God brings into his hand.*

¹⁶ Look, their prosperity is not in their hands; the schemes of the wicked are repugnant* to me.

¹ Blessed is the man who does not walk in the advice of the wicked; nor does he stand in the way of sinners; nor does he sit in the assembly of mockers.

¹⁴ from men by your hand, O Yahweh, from men of this world. Their share is in _⌊this life_⌋,* and you fill their stomach with your treasure. They are satisfied with children. They bequeath their excess to their children.

² Not only do you plant them, they take root. They grow, but also they produce fruit. You are near in their mouths, but far from their _⌊inmost beings_⌋.*

¹⁷ And yet he did not leave himself without witness by* doing good, giving you rain from heaven and fruitful seasons, satisfying you* with food and your hearts with gladness."

¹⁶ 'After these things I will return and build up again the tent of David that has fallen, and the parts of it that had been torn down I will build up again and will restore it,

²³ When the whip* kills suddenly, he mocks at the despair of the innocent.

¹¹ Let _⌊Mount Zion_⌋* rejoice; let the daughters of Judah rejoice because of your judgments.

⁶ And the righteous will see and fear, and will laugh at him, saying,

¹⁰ The righteous will rejoice when he sees the vengeance; he will wash his feet in the blood of the wicked.

⁸ Zion hears and is glad, and the daughters of Judah rejoice because of your judgments, O Yahweh.

⁴² The upright see it and are glad, and all wickedness shuts its mouth.

¹⁰ When good is with the righteous, the city rejoices, and with the perishing of the wicked, jubilation.

²⁰ Rejoice over her, heaven and the saints and the apostles and the prophets, because God has pronounced your judgment on her!"

¹ After these things I heard something like the loud sound of a great crowd in heaven saying,
"Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God, ² because his judgments are true and righteous, because he has passed judgment on the great prostitute who corrupted the earth with her sexual immorality, and has avenged the blood of his slaves _⌊shed by_⌋* her hand!" ³ And a second time they said,
"Hallelujah!"
And her smoke goes up _⌊forever and ever_⌋*.

²⁴ Yahweh rained down from heaven upon Sodom and Gomorrah brimstone and fire from Yahweh.

¹⁶ While this one was still speaking, _⌊another_⌋* came and said, "The fire of God fell from the heavens, and it blazed up against the sheep and goats and against the servants, and it consumed them. But I escaped, even I alone, to tell you."

⁷ "_⌊Think_⌋* now, who has perished who is innocent? Or* where are the upright destroyed?

³ Does God pervert justice, _⌊or_⌋* Shaddai pervert righteousness? ⁴ If your children sinned against him, then* he sent them into the _⌊power_⌋* of their transgression.

³⁰ "He will not escape from darkness; a flame will dry up his new shoot, and by the wind of his mouth he shall be removed.

¹⁸ Returning the products of his toil, he will not swallow;* according to the profit of his trade, _⌊he will not enjoy_⌋,* ¹⁹ for he has oppressed; he has abandoned the poor; he has seized a house but* did not build it.

²⁶ _⌊Total darkness_⌋* is hidden for his treasures;* _⌊an unfanned fire_⌋* will devour him; the remnant* _⌊will be consumed_⌋* in his tent.

²⁷ "Look, I know your* thoughts and the schemes you devise against me. ²⁸ For you say, 'Where is the nobleman's house, and where are _⌊the tents in which the wicked dwell_⌋?'*

¹ Now at the same time some had come to tell him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices. ² And he answered and* said to them, "Do you think that these Galileans were sinners worse than all the Galileans, because they suffered these things? ³ No, I tell you, but unless you repent you will all perish as well! ⁴ Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them—do you think that they were sinners worse than all the people who live in Jerusalem? ⁵ No, I tell you, but unless you repent, you will all perish as well!"

²⁹ But on the day that Lot went out from Sodom, it rained fire and sulphur from heaven and destroyed them all. ³⁰ It will be _⌊just the same_⌋* on the day that the Son of Man is revealed.

⁶ and condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to destruction, reducing them to ashes, having appointed them as an example for those who are going to be ungodly, ⁷ and rescued righteous Lot, worn down by the way of life of lawless persons in licentiousness

⁹ "And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve him with a whole heart and a willing mind, for Yahweh searches all hearts and understands every plan and all thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you abandon him, he will reject you forever.

¹⁰ The young lions are in want and suffer hunger, but those who seek Yahweh will not lack for any good thing.

⁵ Or let it grasp at my protection; let it make peace with me; peace let it make with me."

¹⁹ creating fruit of lips. Peace, peace to the far and near," says Yahweh, "and I will heal him. ²⁰ But* the wicked are like the churning sea, that is not able to keep quiet, and its waters toss up mire and mud. ²¹ There is no peace," says my God, "for the wicked."

²⁵ _⌊Settle the case quickly with your accuser_⌋* while you are with him on the way, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the officer, and you be thrown into prison.

³ Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

³⁶ As for* the message that he sent to the sons of Israel, proclaiming the good news of peace through Jesus Christ—this one is Lord of all—

⁶ For God who said, "Light will shine out of darkness,"* is the one who has shined in our hearts for the enlightenment of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.*

²⁰ Therefore we are ambassadors on behalf of Christ, as if* God were imploring you through us. We beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

¹⁴ For he himself is our peace, who made both one and broke down the dividing wall of the partition, the enmity, in his flesh, ¹⁵ invalidating the law of commandments in ordinances, in order that he might create the two in himself into one new man, thus* making peace, ¹⁶ and might reconcile both in one body to God through the cross, killing the enmity in himself.* ¹⁷ And coming, he proclaimed the good news of peace to you who were far away and peace to the ones who were near,

⁷ And the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds* in Christ Jesus.

¹ "Now, Israel, listen to the rules and to the regulations that I am teaching you to do, in order that you may live and you may go in and you may take possession of the land that Yahweh, the God of your ancestors,* is giving to you. ² You must not add to the word that I am commanding you, and you shall not take away from it in order to keep* the commands of Yahweh your God that I am commanding you to observe.

⁶ And these words that I am commanding you _⌊today_⌋* shall be on* your heart.* ⁷ And you shall recite them to your children, and you shall talk about them at the time of your living in your house and at the time of your going on the road and at the time of your lying down and at the time of your rising up. ⁸ And you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as an emblem between your eyes. ⁹ And you shall write them on the doorframe of your house and on your gates.

¹² From the commandment of his lips, indeed* I have not departed; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily food.

¹¹ In my heart I have hidden your word,* so that I may not sin against you.

¹ My child, if you will receive* my sayings, and hide my commands with you, ² in order to incline your ear toward wisdom, then you shall apply your heart to understanding. ³ For if you cry out for understanding,* if you lift* your voice for insight, ⁴ if you seek her like silver and search her out _⌊like treasure_⌋,* ⁵ then you will understand the fear of Yahweh, and the knowledge of God you will find. ⁶ For Yahweh will give wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. ⁷ For the upright, he stores* sound judgment, a shield for those who walk uprightly, ⁸ in order to guard paths of justice and keep* the way of his faithful ones. ⁹ Then you will understand righteousness and justice and uprightness—every good course—

⁴ he taught me and said to me, "May your heart hold fast to my words; guard my commandments and live.

²¹ May they not escape from your _⌊sight_⌋;* keep them in the midst of your heart.

¹⁶ Your words were found and I ate them, and your words became to me as jubilation, even as the joy of my heart, for your name is called on me, O Yahweh God of hosts.

³⁵ The good person from his* good treasury brings out good things, and the evil person from his* evil treasury brings out evil things.

⁵² And he said to them, "For this reason every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like the master of the house who brings out of his storeroom new things and old things."

¹⁹ But Mary treasured up all these words, pondering them* in her heart.

⁵¹ And he went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was submitting to them. And his mother treasured all these things in her heart.

¹ Finally therefore, brothers, we ask you and appeal to you in the Lord Jesus that, just as you have received from us how it is necessary for you to live and to please God, just as indeed you are living, that you progress even more. ² For you know what commands we gave to you through the Lord Jesus.

¹³ Get up, sanctify the people, and say, 'Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow. Thus says Yahweh the God of Israel: "There are devoted things* in your midst, O Israel. You will be unable to stand before you enemies until you remove the devoted things* from your midst." ¹⁴ In the morning you will come forward, _⌊tribe by tribe_⌋,* and the tribe that Yahweh will select by lot will come forward by clans, and the clan that Yahweh selects by lot will come forward by families, and the family that Yahweh selects by lot will come forward one by one. ¹⁵ The one caught with the devoted things* will be burned with fire, he and all that belongs to him, because _⌊he transgressed the covenant_⌋* of Yahweh, and because he did a disgraceful thing in Israel." '" ¹⁶ So* Joshua rose early in the morning and brought forward Israel, _⌊tribe by tribe_⌋,* and the tribe of Judah was selected by lot.

⁵ If you yourself* would seek God, then* you would plead to Shaddai for grace. ⁶ If you are pure and upright, indeed,* now he will rouse himself for you, and he will restore your righteous abode.

¹³ "If you yourself* direct your heart and stretch out your hands to him— ¹⁴ if iniquity* is in your hand, put it far away, and you must not let wickedness reside in your tents—

¹⁴ If he tears down, then* it will not be rebuilt; if he shuts a man in, then* he cannot be freed.

¹⁵ "_⌊Nothing_⌋* remains for him in his tent; sulfur is scattered upon his dwelling place.

²² And Yahweh will strike Egypt, striking and healing; and they will return to Yahweh, and he will respond to their prayer, and he will heal them.

⁶ Turn back to the one against whom the sons of Israel have made deep rebellion.

¹⁵ He who walks in righteousness and speaks uprightness, who rejects the gain of extortion, who _⌊refuses_⌋* a bribe, who stops up his ears* from hearing _⌊bloodshed_⌋* and shuts his eyes from seeing evil.

⁶ Seek Yahweh _⌊while he lets himself be found_⌋;* call him _⌊while he is_⌋* near. ⁷ Let the wicked forsake his way, and the man of sin his thoughts. And let him return to Yahweh, that* he may take pity on him, and to our God, for he will _⌊forgive manifold_⌋.*

⁴ I will again build you, and you will be built, O virgin Israel. You will again adorn yourself with your tambourines, and you will go forth in the dancing in a ring of the merrymakers.

¹ Return to Yahweh your God, O Israel, for you have stumbled because of your sin. ² Take words with you, and return to Yahweh. Say to him, "Take away all guilt; accept good, and we will offer the fruit* of our lips.

³ You must say to them: 'Thus says Yahweh of hosts: "Return to me," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh of hosts, "and I will return to you," says Yahweh of hosts.

³ And he said to me, "This is the curse going out over the surface of the whole earth. For everyone who steals has gone unpunished* according to it, and likewise everyone who swears falsely has gone unpunished according to it. ⁴ 'I have sent it out,' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh of hosts, 'and it will go into the house of the thief and into the house of the one swearing _⌊falsely by my name_⌋,* and it will spend the night in that* house and will destroy it, with its timber and its stone.'"

²⁰ but to those in Damascus first, and in Jerusalem and all the region of Judea and to the Gentiles, I proclaimed that they should repent and turn to God, doing deeds worthy of repentance.

⁷ firmly rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding with thankfulness.

¹⁹ However, the solid foundation of God stands firm, having this seal: "The Lord knows those who are his,"* and "Everyone who names the name of the Lord must abstain from unrighteousness."

²⁰ But you, dear friends, by* building yourselves up in your most holy faith, by* praying in the Holy Spirit,

²⁹ Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were the sons of Joktan.

²⁸ They went to Ophir and imported from there four hundred and twenty talents of gold, and they brought it to King Solomon.

²¹ All of the drinking vessels of King Solomon were gold, and all the vessels for the House of the Forest of Lebanon were pure gold. There was no silver; it was not considered as something valuable in the days of Solomon.

⁴⁸ Jehoshaphat built* ships of the Tarshish type to go to Ophir for the gold; but he did not go because the ships were destroyed at Ezion-Geber.

⁵ And the bronze altar that Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, had made was there before the tabernacle of Yahweh. And Solomon and the assembly sought it out.

¹⁰ Moreover the servants of Hiram and the servants of Solomon who brought gold from Ophir brought algum wood and precious stones.

²⁷ And the king made silver in Jerusalem as stones, and he made cedar as the sycamore trees that are in the Shephelah for abundance.

²⁵ if I have rejoiced because my wealth was great or* because my hand found a fortune,

⁹ Kings' daughters are among your noble ladies. The queen stands at your right hand in gold of Ophir.

¹² I will make humanity more rare than gold and humankind more than the gold of Ophir.

¹ After these things the word of Yahweh came* to Abram in a vision, saying: "Do not be afraid, Abram; I am your shield, and your reward shall be very great."

⁵ Yahweh is the portion which is my share and my cup. You hold my lot. ⁶ The measuring lines have fallen for me in pleasant places. Yes, my inheritance is delightful for me.

² Yahweh is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock in whom I have taken refuge, my shield and the horn of my deliverance, my stronghold.

¹¹ Because Yahweh God is a sun and a shield; Yahweh gives grace and honor. He does not withhold good from those who walk blamelessly.

⁶ and he will be the security of your times, an abundance of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge.
The fear of Yahweh is his treasure.

¹⁰ You must not fear, for I am with you; you must not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, indeed I will help you, indeed I will take hold of you with the right hand of my salvation.

³¹ What then shall we say about these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

¹⁰ as grieving, but always rejoicing, as poor, but making many rich, as having nothing, and possessing everything.

⁵ Listen, my dear brothers! Did not God choose the poor of the world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom that he has promised to those who love him?

¹⁵ surely then you will lift up your face without* blemish, and you will be firmly established and will not fear.*

¹⁰ Or, in Shaddai will he find delight? Will he call upon God at all times?

⁹ Indeed, he says, 'A man does not profit when he takes delight in God.'

To you, O Yahweh, I lift up my soul.

⁴ Take pleasure in Yahweh as well, and he will give to you the requests of your heart.

⁴ Make glad the soul of your servant, because _⌊I desire you_⌋,* O Lord.

⁸ Cause me to hear your loyal love in the morning, for I trust you. Cause me to know the way that I should go, for I lift up my soul to you.

³ As an apple tree among the trees of the forest, so is my beloved among the young men. In his shade _⌊I sat down with delight_⌋,* and his fruit was sweet to my palate.

¹⁴ then you shall take your pleasure in* Yahweh, and I will make you ride upon the heights of the earth, and I will feed you the heritage of Jacob your ancestor,*
for the mouth of Yahweh has spoken."

²² For I joyfully agree with the law of God in my inner person,

²⁰ that* if our heart condemns us, that God is greater than our heart and knows all things. ²¹ Dear friends, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God,

²⁶ He prays to God, then he accepts him, and he sees his face with a shout of joy, and he repays to the human being his righteousness.

²⁸ so that they cause the cry of distress from the helpless to come to him, and he hears the cry of distress from the needy,

¹⁴ Offer to God a thank offering and pay your vows to the Most High. ¹⁵ And call me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will glorify me."

¹² My vows to you, O God, are binding upon me. I will pay thank offerings to you,

¹³ I will come into your house* with burnt offerings. I will pay to you my vows ¹⁴ that my lips uttered, and my mouth spoke in my distress.

¹⁷ I called to him with my mouth, and he was extolled with my tongue.* ¹⁸ If I had considered evil in my heart, the Lord would not have listened. ¹⁹ However, God has listened; he has attended to the sound of my prayer. ²⁰ Blessed be God, who has not turned aside my prayer, or his loyal love from me.

¹⁵ He will call upon me and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue and honor him.

¹ I love him, because Yahweh has heard _⌊the voice of my supplications_⌋.*

¹⁴ I will pay my vows made to Yahweh in the presence of all his people.

⁴ When you make a vow to God, do not delay in fulfilling it, for _⌊he takes no pleasure_⌋* in fools. Fulfill what you vow!

⁹ Then you shall call, and Yahweh himself will answer. You shall cry for help, and he will say, 'Here I am!' If you remove from among you the yoke, the _⌊finger-pointing_⌋* and _⌊evil speech_⌋,*

⁹ But I, with a voice of thanksgiving, will sacrifice to you; I will fulfill what I have vowed. Deliverance* belongs to Yahweh!"

¹⁴ And this is the confidence that we have before him: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. ¹⁵ And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked from him.

³ when his shining lamp was over my head— by his light I walked through darkness—

⁴ May he give to you _⌊your heart's desire_⌋,* and your every plan may he fulfill. Selah

¹⁷ And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish for us the work of our hands, yes, the work of our hands, establish it.

¹¹ Light is sown for the righteous, and joy for the upright in heart.

⁴ His light rises in the darkness for the upright; he is gracious and compassionate and righteous.

¹⁸ But the path of the righteous ones is like the light of dawn, leading and shining until the day _⌊is full_⌋.*

²¹ And your ears shall hear a word from behind you, saying, "this is the way; walk in it," when you go to your right and when you go to your left.

³⁷ _⌊Who can speak_⌋* and it will happen if the Lord has not commanded it?

² But for you who revere* my name, the sun of righteousness will rise, with healing in its wings, and you will go out and leap like _⌊fattened calves_⌋.*

²² And whatever you ask in prayer, if you* believe, you will receive."

¹² Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the light of the world! The one who follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

¹⁵ Instead you should say, "If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that."

¹⁹ _⌊From_⌋* six troubles he will deliver you, and in seven evil shall not touch you. ²⁰ In famine he will redeem you from death, and in war from the _⌊power of_⌋* the sword. ²¹ From the scourge of the tongue you shall be hidden, and you shall not be afraid of* destruction when it comes. ²² At destruction and famine* you shall laugh, and you shall not fear the wild animals of the earth. ²³ For your covenant will be with the stones of the field, and the wild animals* of the field will be at peace with you. ²⁴ And you shall know that your tent is safe, and you will inspect your fold, and you shall not be missing anything. ²⁵ And you shall know that your offspring are many, and your descendants like the vegetation of the earth. ²⁶ You shall come in maturity to the grave, as the raising up of a stack of sheaves in its season. ²⁷ "Look, we have searched this out—it is true; hear it and know it _⌊yourself_⌋."*

² I will be glad and rejoice in you. I will sing the praise of your name, O Most High. ³ When my enemies turn back, they will stumble and perish because of your presence.

¹⁴ Because he loves me, therefore I will deliver him; I will protect* him because he knows my name. ¹⁵ He will call upon me and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue and honor him. ¹⁶ With _⌊long life_⌋* I will satisfy him, and show him my salvation.

⁹ For behold, your enemies, O Yahweh, for behold, your enemies will perish. All the workers of evil will be scattered. ¹⁰ But you have exalted my horn like that of a wild ox; you have anointed me* with fresh oil. ¹¹ And so my eye looks on my enemies.* My ears hear those evildoers who rise up against me.

⁶ Though Yahweh is high, yet he sees the lowly, but the proud he perceives* at a distance.

²³ The pride of a person will bring him humiliation, and the lowly of spirit will obtain honor.

² And my hand has made all these things, and all these _⌊came to be_⌋,"*
_⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "but* I look to this one:
to the humble and the contrite of spirit and the one frightened at my word.

²⁶ thus says the Lord Yahweh: 'Remove the turban and lift off the crown; things are no longer the same. Exalt the low and bring low the high. ²⁷ A ruin, a ruin, a ruin I will make it! Also* this has not ever happened;* it will remain until the coming of the one to whom the judgment belongs and I have given it to him.'

¹² And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

⁵² He has brought down rulers from their thrones, and has exalted the lowly.

¹¹ For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and the one who humbles himself will be exalted."

⁹ And he also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and looked down on _⌊everyone else_⌋:* ¹⁰ "Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. ¹¹ The Pharisee stood and* prayed these things with reference to himself: 'God, I give thanks to you that I am not like other people—swindlers, unrighteous people, adulterers, or even like this tax collector! ¹² I fast twice a week; I give a tenth of all that I get.' ¹³ But the tax collector, standing far away, did not want even to raise his eyes to heaven, but was beating his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me, a sinner!' ¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than that one! For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted."

⁶ But he gives greater grace. Therefore it says,
"God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble."*

⁵ In the same way, younger men, be subject to the elders, and all of you clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.

²⁶ And Yahweh said, "If I find fifty righteous in Sodom, in the midst of the city, then I will forgive the whole place for their sake." ²⁷ Then Abraham answered and said, "Look, please, I was bold to speak to my Lord, but I am dust and ashes. ²⁸ Perhaps the fifty righteous are lacking five—will you destroy the whole city on account of the five?" And he answered, "I will not destroy it if I find forty-five there." ²⁹ And _⌊once again he spoke_⌋* to him and said, "What if* forty are found there?" And he answered, "I will not do it on account of the forty." ³⁰ And he said, "Please, let not my Lord be angry, and I will speak. What if* thirty be found there?" And he answered, "I will not do it if I find thirty there." ³¹ And he said, "Please, now, I was bold to speak to my Lord. What if* twenty be found there?" And he answered, "I will not destroy it for the sake of the twenty." ³² And he said, "Please, let not my Lord be angry, and I will speak only once more. What if* ten are found there?" And he answered, "I will not destroy it for the sake of the ten."

⁷ _⌊And then_⌋* after Yahweh spoke these words to Job, Yahweh said to Eliphaz the Temanite, "_⌊My wrath has been kindled_⌋* against you* and against the two of your friends, for you* have not spoken to me what is right as my servant Job has. ⁸ _⌊So then_⌋,* take for yourselves seven bulls and seven rams, and go to my servant Job and offer a burnt offering for yourselves. And my servant Job will pray for you,* for _⌊I will certainly accept his prayer_⌋,* so that it will not be done with you* according to your folly, for you* have not spoken to me what is right as my servant Job has."

²⁰ Yahweh has rewarded me according to my righteousness; According to the cleanness of my hands he has repaid me.

⁴ He who is innocent of hands and pure of heart, who does not lift up his soul to falseness, and does not swear deceitfully.

¹⁵ And when you stretch out your hands, I will hide my eyes from you; even though you make many prayers,* I will not be listening. Your hands are full of blood.

¹² And they shall rebuild ancient ruins from you; you shall erect the foundations of _⌊many generations,_⌋* and _⌊you shall be called_⌋* the bricklayer of the breach, the restorer of paths to live in.

¹ "Roam about through the streets of Jerusalem, and look please, and take note, and search at its public squares, if you can find a person who does justice, who seeks honesty, so that I may forgive it.

⁹ So then, _⌊implore the favor of God_⌋* so that he will be gracious to us. "_⌊This is what you have done_⌋.* _⌊Will he show favor to any of you_⌋?"* says Yahweh of hosts.

¹⁹ Then the disciples approached Jesus privately and* said, _⌊Why_⌋* were we not able to expel it?" ²⁰ And he said to them, "Because of your little faith. For truly I say to you, if you have faith like a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you."*

¹⁵ But the evil spirit answered and* said to them, "Jesus I know, and Paul I am acquainted with, but who are you?" ¹⁶ And the man _⌊who had the evil spirit_⌋* leaped on them, subdued all of them, and* prevailed against them, so that they ran away from that house naked and wounded.

²⁴ saying, 'Do not be afraid, Paul! It is necessary for you to stand before Caesar, and behold, God has graciously granted you all who are sailing with you.'

⁸ Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger and dispute.

¹⁵ And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins _⌊he will be forgiven_⌋*. ¹⁶ Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous person accomplishes much.
