⁷ And the sons of Jacob came in from the field when they heard it. And the men were distressed and very angry because he had done a disgraceful thing in Israel by having sexual relations with the daughter of Jacob—_⌊something that_⌋* should not be done.

⁹ And Abimelech called for Abraham and said to him, "What have you done to us? And how have I sinned against you that you brought upon me and upon my kingdom a great sin? You have done things to me that should not be done."

⁷ his sons and his sons' sons with him, his daughters and his daughters' daughters with him, into Egypt.

⁵ And now if you will carefully listen to my voice and keep my covenant, you will be a treasured possession for me out of all the peoples, _⌊for all the earth is mine_⌋,* ⁶ but you, you will belong to me as a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.' These are the words that you will speak to the _⌊Israelites_⌋."*

² "Speak to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* saying, 'If a person* sins by an unintentional wrong from any of Yahweh's commands that should not be _⌊violated_⌋,* and he _⌊violates_⌋* _⌊any of them_⌋*—

¹³ " 'If* Israel's whole assembly did wrong unintentionally and the matter* was concealed from the assembly's eyes, and they acted* against _⌊any of_⌋* Yahweh's commands that should not be _⌊violated_⌋,* so that* they incur guilt,

²⁷ " 'If* _⌊anyone_⌋* of the people of the land sins by an unintentional wrong by _⌊violating_⌋* one of Yahweh's commands that should not be _⌊violated_⌋,* so that* he incurs guilt,

²¹ and then they shall bring out the young woman to the doorway of the house of her father, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones, and she shall die, because she did a disgraceful thing in Israel _⌊by playing the harlot_⌋* in the house of her father, and so you shall purge the evil from your midst.

¹⁷ "No woman _⌊of Israel_⌋* shall be a temple prostitute, and no man _⌊of Israel_⌋* shall be a male shrine prostitute.

¹⁵ The one caught with the devoted things* will be burned with fire, he and all that belongs to him, because _⌊he transgressed the covenant_⌋* of Yahweh, and because he did a disgraceful thing in Israel." '"

²² While _⌊they were enjoying themselves_⌋,* behold, the men of the city, _⌊the perverse lot_⌋,* surrounded the house, pounding on the door. And they said to the old man, the owner of the house, "Bring out the man who came to your house so that _⌊we may have sex with him_⌋."* ²³ So the man, the owner of the house, went out to them and said to them, "No, my brothers, do not act wickedly; since this man has come into my house, do not do this disgraceful thing. ²⁴ Here is my virgin daughter and his concubine. Please, let me bring them out; do violence to them,* and do to them _⌊whatever you please_⌋.* Do not do this disgraceful thing to this man." ²⁵ But the men were not willing to listen to him, and the man seized his concubine and brought her out to them; and they had intercourse with her, and they abused her all night until the morning; they let her go at the approach of dawn.

⁶ Then I grabbed my concubine and cut her into pieces, and I sent her throughout all the territory of Israel's inheritance; for they committed a shameful and disgraceful thing in Israel.

¹² Then Tamar said to him, "No, my brother! Do not force me, for such a thing has not been done in Israel. Do not do this disgraceful thing! ¹³ As for me, where should I take my disgrace? You will be as one of the fools in Israel. So please, speak to the king, for he will not withhold me from you."

²¹ Now King David heard all these things, and _⌊he became very angry_⌋.*

⁵ Your testimonies are fully reliable. Holiness is fitting for your house,* O Yahweh, _⌊forever_⌋.*

⁷ And I saw among the simple, I observed among the youth, a young man lacking _⌊sense_⌋,*

¹⁸ Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a person commits is outside his body, but the one who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.

⁸ nor commit sexual immorality, as some of them committed sexual immorality, and twenty-three thousand fell in one day,

³ But sexual immorality, and all uncleanness, or greediness, must not even be named among you (as is fitting for saints),

⁵ Therefore put to death _⌊what is earthly in you_⌋*: sexual immorality, uncleanness, lustful passion, evil desire, and greediness, which is idolatry,

¹³ And at the same time also, going around from house to house, they learn to be idle, and not only idle, but also gossipy and busybodies, saying the things that are not necessary.

⁴ Marriage must be held in honor by all, and the marriage bed be undefiled, because God will judge sexually immoral people and adulterers.

¹⁰ From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so!

⁹ But you are a chosen race,* a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's possession, so that you may proclaim the virtues of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light,
