¹ After these things the word of Yahweh came* to Abram in a vision, saying: "Do not be afraid, Abram; I am your shield, and your reward shall be very great." ² Then* Abram said, "O Yahweh, my Lord, what will you give me? _⌊I continue to be_⌋* childless, and _⌊my heir_⌋* is Eliezer of Damascus." ³ And Abram said, "Look, you have not given me a descendant, and here, _⌊a member of my household_⌋* is _⌊my heir_⌋."* ⁴ And behold, the word of Yahweh came to him saying, "This person will not _⌊be your heir_⌋,* but _⌊your own son will be your heir_⌋."* ⁵ And he brought him outside and said, "Look toward the heavens and count the stars if you are able to count them." And he said to him, "So shall your offspring be." ⁶ And he believed in Yahweh, and he reckoned it to him as righteousness. ⁷ And he said to him, "I am Yahweh, who brought you out from Ur of the Chaldeans to give this land to you, to possess it." ⁸ And he said, "O Yahweh God, how shall I know that I will possess it?" ⁹ And he said to him, "Take for me a three-year-old heifer, and a three-year-old female goat, and a three-year-old ram, and a turtledove and a young pigeon." ¹⁰ And he took for him all these and cut them in pieces down the middle. And he put each piece opposite _⌊the other_⌋,* but the birds he did not cut. ¹¹ And the birds of prey came down on the carcasses, but Abram drove them away. ¹² And it happened, as the sun _⌊went down_⌋,* then a deep sleep fell upon Abram and, behold, a great terrifying darkness fell upon him. ¹³ And he said to Abram, "_⌊You must surely know_⌋* that your descendants shall be as aliens in a land _⌊not their own_⌋.* And they shall serve them* and they* shall oppress them four hundred years. ¹⁴ And also the nation that they* serve I will judge. Then* afterward they shall go out with great possessions. ¹⁵ And as for you, you shall go to your ancestors* in peace; you shall be buried in a good old age. ¹⁶ And the fourth generation shall return here, for the guilt of the Amorites _⌊is not yet complete_⌋."* ¹⁷ And after the sun had gone down and it was dusk, behold, a smoking firepot and a flaming torch passed between those half pieces. ¹⁸ On that day Yahweh _⌊made_⌋* a covenant with Abram saying, "To your offspring I will give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates river, ¹⁹ the land of the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites, ²⁰ the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim, ²¹ the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites."

¹⁴ And also the nation that they* serve I will judge. Then* afterward they shall go out with great possessions. ¹⁵ And as for you, you shall go to your ancestors* in peace; you shall be buried in a good old age. ¹⁶ And the fourth generation shall return here, for the guilt of the Amorites _⌊is not yet complete_⌋."*

¹⁷ And God heard the cry* of the boy and the angel of God called to Hagar from the heavens and said to her, "_⌊What is the matter_⌋* Hagar? Do not be afraid, for God has heard the cry* of the boy _⌊from where he is_⌋.*

²⁴ And Yahweh appeared to him that night and said, "I am the God of your father Abraham. Do not be afraid, for I am with you, and I will bless you and make your descendants numerous for the sake of my servant Abraham."

² And God spoke to Israel in visions of the night and said, "Jacob, Jacob." And he said, "Here I am." ³ Then he said, "I am the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you a great nation there.

¹³ And Moses said to the people, "You must not be afraid. Stand still and see the salvation of Yahweh, which he will accomplish for you today, because the Egyptians whom you see today you will see never again.

⁶ and he said,
"Please hear my words: If there is a prophet among you, I, Yahweh, will make myself known to him in a vision. I will speak to him in a dream.*

⁶ Be strong and be courageous; you should not be afraid, and you _⌊should not be in dread from their presence_⌋,* for Yahweh your God is the one going with you; he will not leave you alone and he will not forsake you."

²⁶ "There is no one like God, O, Jeshurun, who rides through the heavens to your help, and with his majesty through the skies. ²⁷ The God of _⌊ancient time_⌋* is a hiding place, and underneath are the arms of eternity,* and he drove out _⌊from before_⌋* you your enemy, and he said, 'Destroy them!' ²⁸ So Israel dwells alone and carefree, the spring of Jacob in a land of grain and wine; his heavens even drip dew. ²⁹ Blessed are you, O Israel. Who is like you, a people who is saved by Yahweh, the shield of your help, and who is the sword of your triumph, and your enemies, they shall fawn before you,* and you shall tread on their backs."

¹² May Yahweh reward your work and may a full reward be given to you from Yahweh, the God of Israel, under whose wings you came to take refuge."

⁹ (Formerly in Israel, when a man went to inquire of God, he would say: "Come, let us go up to the seer." For the prophet of today was formerly called a seer.)

²⁰ Then David said to Solomon his son, "Be strong and courageous, and do this! Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed, for Yahweh God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you and will not forsake you until all the work of the service of the house of Yahweh is finished.

³ But* you, Yahweh, are a shield around me, my glory and the one who lifts up my head.

¹² For you bless the righteous. O Yahweh, like a* shield you surround him with good favor.

⁵ Yahweh is the portion which is my share and my cup. You hold my lot. ⁶ The measuring lines have fallen for me in pleasant places. Yes, my inheritance is delightful for me.

² Yahweh is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock in whom I have taken refuge, my shield and the horn of my deliverance, my stronghold.

Yahweh is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? Yahweh is the refuge of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

¹¹ And people* will say, "Surely there is a _⌊reward_⌋* for the righteous. Surely there is a God who judges in the land."*

⁹ Look at our shield, O God, and have regard for the face of your anointed one.

¹¹ Because Yahweh God is a sun and a shield; Yahweh gives grace and honor. He does not withhold good from those who walk blamelessly.

⁴ With his feathers he will cover you, and under his wings you can take refuge. His faithfulness will be a shield and a buckler.*

¹¹⁴ You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in your word.

⁵ I cry out to you, O Yahweh. I say, "You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living."

¹⁸ The wicked earns* _⌊deceptive gain_⌋,* but he who sows righteousness, a _⌊true reward_⌋.*

⁵ Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield for him who takes refuge in him.

⁴ Say to those who are hasty of heart,
"Be strong; you must not fear! Look! your God will come with vengeance, with _⌊divine retribution_⌋.* He _⌊is the one who_⌋* will come and save you."

¹⁰ You must not fear, for I am with you; you must not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, indeed I will help you, indeed I will take hold of you with the right hand of my salvation.

¹⁴ You must not fear, O worm of Jacob; people of Israel, I myself, I will help you," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "and your redeemer is the holy one of Israel.

¹ But now thus says Yahweh,
he who created you, Jacob, and he who formed you, Israel: "You must not fear, for I have redeemed you. I have called you by your name; _⌊you are mine_⌋.*

⁵ You must not fear, for I am with you. I will bring your _⌊offspring_⌋* from the east, and I will gather you from the west.

² Thus says Yahweh, who made you, and who formed you in* the womb and will help you: you must not fear, my servant Jacob, and Jeshurun whom I have chosen.

⁸ You must not tremble,* and you must not be paralyzed with fear. Have I not made you hear from of old* and declared it, and you are my witnesses? Is there a god besides me? And there is no rock! I know none!"

¹² "I, I am he who comforts you; who are you that* you are afraid of man? He dies! And of the son of humankind? He is _⌊sacrificed_⌋* as grass!

²⁴ "Yahweh is my portion," says my soul, "Thus I will hope on him."

¹ And it was in the thirtieth year, in the fourth month, on the fifth day of the month, and I was in the midst of* the exiles* by the _⌊Kebar River_⌋.* The heavens were opened, and I saw visions of God.

⁴ And he said to me, "Son of man,* come! Go to the house of Israel, and you must speak to them with my words.

²⁴ And the Spirit lifted me up, and it brought me to Chaldea, to the exiles,* in the vision by the spirit of God; and the vision that I had seen _⌊left me_⌋.*

¹ In the third year of Cyrus the king of the Persians, a word* was revealed to Daniel, who was called by his name Belteshazzar, and the word* was reliable and it concerned a great tribulation,* and he understood the word* and _⌊he received understanding_⌋.* ² In those days, I, Daniel, I myself* was in mourning _⌊for three whole weeks_⌋.* ³ I had not eaten any choice food, and meat and wine did not enter my mouth, and _⌊I did not use any ointment_⌋* _⌊until the end of three whole weeks_⌋.* ⁴ And then on the twenty-fourth day of the first month, I myself* was on the bank of the great river; that is, the Tigris. ⁵ And I lifted up my eyes and I saw,* and there was a man, and he was dressed in linen, and his waist was girded with the gold of Uphaz. ⁶ Now his body was like turquoise,* and his face was like the appearance of lightning, and his eyes were like torches of fire, and his arms and his legs were like the gleam of polished bronze, and the sound of his words was like the sound of a multitude. ⁷ And I saw, I, Daniel _⌊alone_⌋,* the vision; and the people who were with me _⌊did not see_⌋* the vision; nevertheless, a great trembling fell upon them and they fled in order to hide themselves. ⁸ And I myself, Daniel, alone saw this great vision, and as a result _⌊no strength was left in me_⌋* and _⌊my complexion grew deathly pale_⌋,* and I did not retain any strength. ⁹ And I heard the sound of his words, and _⌊when I heard_⌋* the sound of his words I myself began falling into a trance on my face, _⌊with my face to the ground_⌋.* ¹⁰ And look, a hand touched me and it roused me to my knees* and the palms* of my hands. ¹¹ And he said to me, "Daniel, a man beloved, pay attention to the words that I am speaking to you and _⌊stand upright where you are_⌋,* for I have now been sent to you." And _⌊while he was speaking_⌋* with me this word,* I stood up trembling. ¹² And he said to me, "You must not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand and to humble yourself _⌊before_⌋* your God, your words were heard, and I myself* have come because of your words. ¹³ But the prince of the kingdom of Persia stood _⌊before me_⌋* for twenty-one days. And look,* Michael, one of the chief princes, came to assist me, and I left him there beside the king of the Persians. ¹⁴ And I have come* to instruct you about what* will happen to your people _⌊in the future_⌋,* for there is a further vision here _⌊for the future_⌋.* ¹⁵ And while he was speaking with me according to these words, I turned my face toward the ground and I was speechless. ¹⁶ Then look, there was _⌊one in the form of a human_⌋;* he touched my lips and I opened my mouth and I spoke and I said to the one standing _⌊before me_⌋,* "My lord, because of the vision my anxieties fell upon me and I have not retained my strength.

²⁶ And he said to them, "Why are you fearful, you of little faith?" Then he got up and* rebuked the winds and the sea and there was a great calm.

²⁸ And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but are not able to kill the soul, but instead be afraid of the one who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. ²⁹ Are not two sparrows sold for a penny?* And one of them will not fall to the ground _⌊without the knowledge and consent_⌋* of your Father. ³⁰ And even the hairs of your head are all numbered! ³¹ Therefore do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

⁵ But the angel answered and* said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.

¹³ But the angel said to him,
"Do not be afraid, Zechariah, because your prayer has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you will call his name John.

³⁰ And the angel said to her,
"Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.

³² "Do not be afraid, little flock, because your Father is well pleased to give you the kingdom.

¹⁰ And he became hungry and wanted to eat. But while* they were preparing the food,* a trance came over him. ¹¹ And he saw heaven opened and an object something like a large sheet coming down, being let down to the earth by its four corners, ¹² in which were all the four-footed animals and reptiles of the earth and birds of the sky. ¹³ And a voice came to him, "Get up, Peter, slaughter and eat!" ¹⁴ But Peter said, "Certainly not, Lord! For I have never eaten anything common and unclean!" ¹⁵ And the voice came again to him for the second time: "The things which God has made clean, you must not consider unclean!" ¹⁶ And this happened three times, and immediately the object was taken up into heaven. ¹⁷ Now while Peter was greatly perplexed within himself as to what the vision that he had seen might be, behold, the men who had been sent by Cornelius, having found the house of Simon by asking around, stood at the gate.

²² And they said, "Cornelius, a centurion, a righteous and God-fearing man—and well spoken of by the whole nation of the Jews—was directed by a holy angel to summon you to his house and to hear words from you."

²² whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or things present or things to come, all things are yours,

¹ Although* God spoke long ago in many parts* and in many ways to the fathers by the prophets,

⁵ Your lifestyle must be free from the love of money, being content with what you have. For he himself has said, "I will never desert you, and I will never abandon you."* ⁶ So then, we can say with confidence,
"The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid.* What will man do to me?"*

¹⁷ And when I saw him, I fell at his feet like a dead person, and he placed his right hand on me, saying, "Do not be afraid! I am the first and the last,

³ And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying,
"Behold, the dwelling of God is with humanity, and he will take up residence with them, and they will be his people and God himself will be with them.* ⁴ And he will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death will not exist any longer, and* mourning or wailing or pain will not exist any longer. The former things* have passed away."

¹ And Yahweh said to Abram, "Go out from your land and from your relatives, and from the house of your father, to the land that I will show you. ² And I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you, and I will make your name great. And you will be a blessing. ³ And I will bless those who bless you, and those who curse you I will curse. And all families of the earth will be blessed in you."

² And Abraham said to his servant, the oldest of his house, who had charge of all he had, "Please put your hand under my thigh

¹⁰ And the servant took ten camels from his master's camels, and he went with all kinds of his master's good things in his hand. And he arose and went to Aram-Naharaim, to the city of Nahor.

²¹ And Isaac prayed to Yahweh on behalf of his wife, for she was barren. And Yahweh responded to his prayer, and Rebekah his wife conceived.

¹ When Rachel saw that she could not bear children to Jacob, Rachel envied her sister. And she said to Jacob, "Give me children—if not, I will die!" ² And Jacob _⌊became angry_⌋* with Rachel. And he said, "Am I in the place of God, who has withheld from you the fruit of the womb?"

⁴ And Joseph found favor in his eyes and he served him. Then he appointed him* over his house and all that he owned he put into his hand. ⁵ And it happened that from the time he appointed him over his house and over all that he had, Yahweh blessed the house of the Egyptian on account of Joseph. And the blessing of Yahweh was upon all that he had in the house and in the field. ⁶ And he left all that he had in the hand of Joseph, and _⌊he did not worry about anything_⌋* except the food that he ate. Now Joseph was _⌊well built and handsome_⌋.*

⁹ He has no greater authority in this house than me, and he has not withheld anything from me except you, since you are his wife. Now how could I do this great wickedness and sin against God?"

¹⁹ So they approached the man who was over Joseph's house and spoke to him at the doorway of the house.

¹ Then he commanded the one who was over his household, saying, "Fill the sacks of the men with food as much as they are able to carry, and put each one's money in the mouth of his sack.

¹¹ She _⌊made a vow_⌋* and said: "O Yahweh of hosts, if you will look with compassion on the misery of your female servant, and will remember me, and not forget your female servant, and will give to your female servant _⌊a male child_⌋* then I will give him to Yahweh all the days of his life, and a razor will never pass over his head."*

³ Look, children* are the heritage* of Yahweh; the fruit of the womb is a reward.

¹² Hope that is deferred makes the heart* sick, but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life.

² A slave who deals wisely will rule over a child who acts shamefully, and in the midst of brothers he will share his inheritance.

⁵ And I will give them a monument and a name in my house and within my walls, better than sons and daughters; I will give him an everlasting name that shall not be cut off.

⁵ And he did not give him an inheritance in it—not even a footstep*—and he promised to give it* to him for his possession, and to his descendants after him, _⌊although he did not have_⌋** a child.

² And I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you, and I will make your name great. And you will be a blessing.

¹⁶ I will make your descendants like the dust of the earth which, if anyone were able to count the dust of the earth, your descendants would be so counted.

¹⁴ When* Abram heard that his _⌊relative_⌋* was taken captive, he summoned his trained men, born in his house, three hundred and eighteen of them, and he went in pursuit up to Dan.

²¹ He who pampers his servant from childhood, _⌊arrogance will be his end_⌋.*

²³ under an unloved woman when she gets married, and a maid when she succeeds her mistress.

⁷ I acquired male slaves and female slaves, as well as children born in my house. I also had livestock, cattle, and flocks more than anyone who was before me in Jerusalem.

¹ You will be in the right, O Yahweh, when I complain to you. Even so, let me speak my claims with you. Why does the way of the wicked succeed? All those who deal treacherously with treachery are at ease.

³⁵ Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has great reward. ³⁶ For you have need of endurance, in order that after you* have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised.

¹⁶ And I will bless her; moreover, I give to you from her a son. And I will bless her, and _⌊she shall give rise to nations_⌋.* Kings of peoples shall come* from her."

¹² Then God said to Abraham, "_⌊Do not be displeased_⌋* on account of the boy and on account of the slave woman. _⌊Listen to everything that Sarah said to you_⌋,* for through Isaac your offspring will be named.

¹² When your days are full and you lie down with your ancestors,* I will raise up your offspring after you who will go out from your body, and I will establish his kingdom.

¹¹ David said to Abishai and to all his servants, "Look, my son who came out of my loins* is seeking my life. Now _⌊as far as_⌋* this Benjaminite, leave him alone and let him curse, for Yahweh has spoken to him.

²¹ Then Yahweh sent an angel, and he destroyed every mighty warrior of strength, commander, and officer in the camp of the king of Assyria. And he returned with shamed face to his land and went into the house of his god. And some of the offspring of his loins fell upon him there with the sword.

²⁸ But you, brothers, are children of the promise, just as Isaac.

¹² whom I have sent back to you himself, that is, my heart,

¹⁰ And the angel of Yahweh said to her, "_⌊I will greatly multiply_⌋* your offspring, so that they cannot be counted for their abundance."

¹⁷ that I will certainly bless you and greatly multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven, and as the sand that is by the shore of the sea. And your offspring will take possession of the gate of his enemies.

⁴ And I will multiply your descendants like the stars of heaven, and I will give to your descendants all these lands. And all nations of the earth will be blessed through your offspring,

¹⁴ Your descendants shall be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west, and to the east, and to the north and to the south. And all the families of the earth will be blessed through you and through your descendants.

¹³ Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, your servants, to whom you swore by yourself, and you told them, 'I will multiply your offspring like the stars of the heavens, and all this land that I promised I will give to your offspring, and they will inherit it forever.'"

¹⁰ Yahweh your God has multiplied you, and look; you are today as the stars of the heaven _⌊in number_⌋.*

²² With only seventy persons your ancestors* went down to Egypt, but now Yahweh your God has made you as the stars of the heaven _⌊with respect to multitude_⌋.*

²³ And David did not _⌊take a census of those twenty years old or under_⌋* because Yahweh promised* to make Israel more numerous than the stars of heaven.

⁴ He counts the number of the stars; he gives names to all of them.

²² As the host of heaven cannot be counted, and the sand of the sea cannot be measured, so I will make numerous the offspring of David my servant and the Levites who minister to me.'"

¹⁸ who against hope believed in hope, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was said, "so will your descendants be."*

⁷ nor are they all children because they are descendants of Abraham, but "In Isaac will your descendants be named."* ⁸ That is, it is not the children _⌊by human descent_⌋* who are children of God, but the children of the promise are counted as descendants.

¹² And therefore these were fathered from one man, and he being as good as dead, as the stars of heaven in number and like the innumerable sand by the shore of the sea.

³¹ and it was reckoned to him as righteousness _⌊throughout all generations_⌋.*

³ For what does the scripture say? "And Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him for righteousness."* ⁴ Now to the one who works, his pay is not credited according to grace, but according to his due. ⁵ But to the one who does not work, but who believes in the one who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited for righteousness, ⁶ just as David also speaks about the blessing of the person to whom God credits righteousness apart from works:

⁹ Therefore, is this blessing for _⌊those who are circumcised_⌋*, or also for _⌊those who are uncircumcised_⌋*? For we say, "Faith was credited to Abraham for righteousness."*

¹¹ And he received the sign of circumcision as a seal* of the righteousness by faith which he had _⌊while uncircumcised_⌋*, so that he could be the father of all who believe _⌊although they are uncircumcised_⌋*, so that righteousness could be credited to them,*

²⁰ And he did not waver in unbelief at the promise of God, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God ²¹ and being fully convinced that what he had promised, he was also able to do. ²² Therefore* it was credited to him for righteousness. ²³ But it was not written for the sake of him alone that it was credited to him, ²⁴ but also for the sake of us to whom it is going to be credited, to those who believe in the one who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead, ²⁵ who was handed over on account of our trespasses, and was raised up in the interest of our justification.*

¹⁹ namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.

⁶ Just as Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him for righteousness, ⁷ then understand that the ones _⌊who have faith_⌋*, these are sons of Abraham. ⁸ And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, proclaimed the good news in advance to Abraham: "In you all the nations* will be blessed."* ⁹ So then, the ones who have faith are blessed together with Abraham who believed. ¹⁰ For as many as are of the works of the law are under a curse, for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who does not abide by all the things that are written in the book of the law to do them."* ¹¹ Now it is clear that no one is justified in the sight of God by the law, because "the one who is righteous will live by faith."* ¹² But the law is not from faith, but "the one who does these things will live by them."* ¹³ Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by* becoming a curse for us, because it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree,"* ¹⁴ in order that the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, so that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

⁸ By faith Abraham, when he* was called, obeyed to go out to a place that he was going to receive for an inheritance, and he went out, not knowing where he was going.

²³ And the scripture was fulfilled that says, "And Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him for righteousness,"* and he was called God's friend.

²⁸ And Haran died in the presence of Terah his father in the land of his birth, in Ur of the Chaldeans. ²⁹ And Abram and Nahor took wives for themselves. The name of the wife of Abram was Sarai, and the name of the wife of Nahor was Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah and Iscah. ³⁰ And Sarai was barren; she had no child. ³¹ And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot, the son of Haran, _⌊his grandson_⌋,* and Sarai his daughter-in-law, the wife of Abram his son, and went out with them from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to the land of Canaan. And they went to Haran, and they settled there.

¹ And Yahweh said to Abram, "Go out from your land and from your relatives, and from the house of your father, to the land that I will show you.

⁷ And Yahweh appeared to Abram and said, "To your offspring I will give this land." And he built an altar there to Yahweh, who had appeared to him.

¹⁵ for all the land which you see I will give to you, and to your descendants, forever. ¹⁶ I will make your descendants like the dust of the earth which, if anyone were able to count the dust of the earth, your descendants would be so counted. ¹⁷ Arise, go through the length of the land and through its breadth, for I will give it to you."

⁷ You are Yahweh, the God who chose Abram and brought him from Ur of the Chaldeans and named him Abraham. ⁸ You found his heart faithful before you and made a covenant with him to give the land of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Jebusite and the Girgashite—to give it to his seed. And you have kept your word because you are righteous.

¹¹ saying, "To you I will give the land of Canaan as the allotment that is your* inheritance."

⁴² For he remembered his holy _⌊promise_⌋;* he remembered Abraham his servant.

⁴⁴ And he gave to them the lands of the nations, and they inherited the labor of the peoples,

² So he said, "Men—brothers and fathers—listen: The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham while he* was in Mesopotamia, before he settled in Haran, ³ and said to him, 'Go out from your land and from your relatives and come to the land that I will show you.' ⁴ Then he went out from the land of the Chaldeans and* settled in Haran. And from there, after his father died, he caused him to move to this land in which you now live.

¹³ For the promise to Abraham or to his descendants, that he would be heir of the world, was not through the law, but through the righteousness by faith.

² And Abraham said to his servant, the oldest of his house, who had charge of all he had, "Please put your hand under my thigh ³ that I may make you swear by Yahweh, the God of heaven and the God of earth, that you will not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites in whose midst I am dwelling, ⁴ but that you will go to my land and to my family, and take a wife for my son, for Isaac."

¹³ Behold, I am standing by the spring of water, and the daughters of the men of the city are going out to draw water. ¹⁴ And let it be that the girl to whom I shall say, 'Please, offer your jar that I may drink' and who says, 'Drink—and I will also water your camels,' she is the one you have chosen for your servant, for Isaac. By her I will know that you have shown loyal love to my master."

¹⁷ And he* said to him, "Please, if I have found favor in your eyes, _⌊show me a sign_⌋* that you are speaking with me. ¹⁸ Please, do not depart from here until I come back to you and bring out my gift and set it out before you."* And he said, "I will stay until you return." ¹⁹ And Gideon went and prepared _⌊a young goat_⌋* and unleavened cakes from an ephah of flour; he put meat in a basket, and the broth he put in a pot, and he brought them to him under the oak* and presented them. ²⁰ The angel of God said to him, "Take the meat and the unleavened cakes and put them on this rock; pour the broth over it." And he did so. ²¹ Then the angel of Yahweh reached out the tip of the staff that was in his hand, and he touched the meat and the unleavened cakes; and fire went up from the rock and consumed the meat and the unleavened cakes. And the angel of Yahweh went _⌊from his sight_⌋.* ²² And Gideon realized that he was the angel of Yahweh; and Gideon said, "Oh, my lord Yahweh! For now I have seen the angel of Yahweh face to face." ²³ And Yahweh said to him, "Peace be with you. Do not fear; you will not die." ²⁴ And Gideon built there an altar to Yahweh, and he called it "Yahweh is peace." To this day it is still in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.*

³⁶ Then Gideon said to God, "In order to see that you will deliver Israel by my hand, just as you have said, ³⁷ I will place a fleece of wool on the threshing floor. If there is dew on the fleece only, and all of the ground is dry, I will know that you will deliver Israel by my hand, just as you have said." ³⁸ And it was so. He arose early the next day and squeezed the fleece, and he wrung out dew from the fleece, a full drinking bowl of water. ³⁹ And Gideon said to God, "_⌊Do not let your anger burn_⌋* against me; let me speak once more. Please let me test once more with the fleece; let the fleece be dry, and let there be dew on the ground." ⁴⁰ And God did so that night; only the fleece was dry, and dew was on all the ground.

⁹ If they say to us: 'Wait until we reach you,' _⌊then we will stand as we are_⌋* and not go up to them. ¹⁰ But if they say, 'Come up to us,' then we will go up, for Yahweh has given them into our hand, and this will be the sign for us."

⁸ Hezekiah said to Isaiah, "What is the sign that Yahweh will heal me that I shall go up on the third day to the temple of Yahweh?"

¹⁷ Do a sign that benefits me, that those who hate me may see and be put to shame, because you, O Yahweh, have helped me and comforted me.

¹¹ "Ask for a sign for yourself from Yahweh God; make it deep as Sheol or make it high as above."

¹⁸ And Zechariah said to the angel, "By what will I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife is advanced _⌊in years_⌋!"*

³⁴ And Mary said to the angel, "How will this be, since I have not had sexual relations with a man?"

¹³ And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked. And behold, a ram was caught in the thicket by his horns. And Abraham went and took the ram, and offered it as a burnt offering in place of his son.

³ If his offering is a burnt offering from the cattle,* then he must present* an unblemished male; he must present it at the door of the tent of assembly for his acceptance _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh.

¹⁰ " 'But if his offering is from the flock,* from the sheep or from the goats for a burnt offering, he must present* an unblemished* male.

¹⁴ " 'But if his offering for Yahweh is a burnt offering from the birds, then he must present his offering from the turtledoves or from _⌊the young doves_⌋.*

¹ " 'Now if* his offering is a sacrifice of fellowship offering, if he brings it from the cattle,* whether male or female, he must bring it without defect before Yahweh.

⁶ " 'But if his offering for a sacrifice of fellowship offering for Yahweh is from the flock,* he must bring a male or a female without defect.

² and he said to Aaron, "Take for yourself _⌊a bull calf_⌋* as a sin offering and a ram as a burnt offering, without defect,* and present them _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh.

⁴ and an ox and a ram as fellowship offerings to sacrifice _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh, and a grain offering mixed with oil, because today Yahweh will appear to you."*

⁸ And if _⌊she cannot afford_⌋* a sheep,* then* she shall take two turtledoves or two _⌊young doves_⌋*—one as a burnt offering and one as a sin offering—and the priest shall make atonement for her, so that* she shall be clean.'"

²² and two turtledoves or two _⌊young doves_⌋* that _⌊he can afford_⌋,* and one shall be a sin offering and the _⌊other_⌋* a burnt offering.

³⁰ And he shall _⌊sacrifice_⌋* one of the turtledoves or the _⌊young doves_⌋* that _⌊he can afford_⌋,*

⁵ "Gather to me my loyal ones, those who have made a covenant with me by sacrifice."

⁵ My heart cries out for Moab; its fugitives flee up to Zoar, to Eglath-shelishiyah. For at the ascent of Luhith it goes up it with weeping; for on the road of Horonaim they raise up a cry of destruction.

²⁴ and to offer a sacrifice according to what was stated in the law of the Lord, "a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons."*

¹⁷ And after the sun had gone down and it was dusk, behold, a smoking firepot and a flaming torch passed between those half pieces.

¹⁷ Then* he must tear it apart by its wings but must not sever it; then* the priest will turn it into smoke on the altar. It is a burnt offering by fire as an appeasing fragrance for Yahweh.'"

¹⁸ And I will make the men who transgressed my covenant, who have not kept the words of the covenant that they _⌊made_⌋* _⌊before me_⌋,* like the calf which they cut in two and they passed between its parts— ¹⁹ the officials of Judah, and the officials of Jerusalem, the eunuchs, and the priests, and all the people of the land who passed between the parts of the calf—

¹⁵ Make every effort to present yourself approved to God, a worker having no need to be ashamed, guiding the word of truth along a straight path.

¹³ With my lips I have told of all the ordinances of your mouth.

³ and you must say, 'Thus says the Lord Yahweh: "_⌊The great eagle with great wings and long feathers_⌋* and _⌊full of variegated plumage_⌋* came to Lebanon and he took the treetop of the cedar.

⁷ " '"And there was another great eagle, great of wings and with abundant plumage, and look! This vine stretched out its roots toward him and extended its branches to him to water it from the garden bed _⌊where it was planted_⌋.*

⁴ and while he was sowing, _⌊some seed_⌋* fell on the side of the path, and the birds came and* devoured it.

²¹ And Yahweh God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man.* While* he slept, he took one of his ribs, and closed up _⌊the flesh where it had been_⌋.*

¹² So David took the spear and the jar of water from near Saul's head, and they went away. _⌊No one saw, no one knew, and no one awakened_⌋,* for all of them were sleeping because a deep sleep of Yahweh had fallen upon them.

¹³ Amid troubling thoughts from night visions, at the falling of deep sleep on men, ¹⁴ dread met me, and trembling, and it made many of my bones shake.

¹⁵ "In a dream, a vision of the night, when a deep sleep falls on men slumbering on their bed,

³ But know that Yahweh has set apart* for himself the faithful one.* Yahweh hears when I call to him. ⁴ Be disturbed but do not sin. Commune in your heart* on your bed and be silent. Selah ⁵ Offer correct sacrifices,* and _⌊trust in_⌋* Yahweh.

⁸ And I myself, Daniel, alone saw this great vision, and as a result _⌊no strength was left in me_⌋* and _⌊my complexion grew deathly pale_⌋,* and I did not retain any strength. ⁹ And I heard the sound of his words, and _⌊when I heard_⌋* the sound of his words I myself began falling into a trance on my face, _⌊with my face to the ground_⌋.*

⁸ So Saul got up from the ground, but although* his eyes were open he could see nothing. And leading him by the hand, they brought him into Damascus. ⁹ And he was _⌊unable to see_⌋* for three days, and he did not eat or drink.

⁹ And a certain young man _⌊named_⌋* Eutychus who was sitting in the window was sinking into a deep sleep while* Paul was conversing at length. Being overcome by sleep, he fell down from the third story and was picked up dead.

⁸ And I will give to you and to your offspring after you _⌊the land in which you are living as an alien_⌋,* all the land of Canaan, as an everlasting property. And I will be to them as God."

¹ And these are the names of the sons of Israel who came to Egypt; with Jacob, they each came with his _⌊family_⌋:* ² Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah;

¹¹ And they appointed commanders of forced labor over them in order to oppress them with their _⌊forced labor_⌋,* and they built storage cities for Pharaoh—Pithom and Rameses.

¹ And afterward, Moses and Aaron went, and they said to Pharaoh, "Thus says Yahweh the God of Israel, 'Release my people so that they may hold a festival for me in the desert.'" ² And Pharaoh said, "Who is Yahweh that I should listen to his voice to release Israel? I do not know Yahweh, and also I will not release Israel." ³ And they said, "The God of the Hebrews has met with us. Please let us go on a three-day journey into the desert, and let us sacrifice to Yahweh our God, lest he strike us with plague or with sword." ⁴ And the king of Egypt said, "Why, Moses and Aaron, do you take* the people from their work? Go to your _⌊forced labor_⌋!"* ⁵ And Pharaoh said, "Look, the people of the land are now many, and you want to stop them from their _⌊forced labor_⌋."* ⁶ And on that day Pharaoh commanded the slave drivers over the people and his foremen, saying, ⁷ "You must no longer give straw to the people to make the bricks like _⌊before_⌋.* Let them go and gather straw for themselves. ⁸ But the quota of the bricks that they were making _⌊before_⌋* _⌊you must require of them_⌋.* You must not reduce from it, because they are lazy. Therefore they are crying out, saying, 'Let us go and sacrifice to our God.' ⁹ Let the work be heavier on the men so that they will do it and not pay attention to words of deception." ¹⁰ And the slave drivers of the people and their foremen went out, and they spoke to the people, saying, "Thus says Pharaoh, 'I am not giving you straw. ¹¹ You go, get straw for yourselves from whatever you find because not a thing is being reduced from your work.'" ¹² And the people spread out in all the land of Egypt to gather stubble for the straw. ¹³ And the slave drivers were insisting, saying, "Finish your work _⌊for each day_⌋* on its day, as _⌊when there was straw_⌋."* ¹⁴ And the foremen of the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* whom Pharaoh's slave drivers had appointed over them, were beaten by men who were saying, "Why have you not completed your portion of brickmaking _⌊as before, both yesterday and today_⌋?"* ¹⁵ And the foremen of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* came and cried out to Pharaoh, saying, "Why do you treat your servants like this? ¹⁶ Straw is not being given to your servants, but they are saying to us, 'Make bricks!' and, look, your servants are being beaten, but it is the fault of* your people." ¹⁷ And he said, "You are lazy, lazy! Therefore you are saying, 'Let us go; let us sacrifice to Yahweh.' ¹⁸ And now go, work, but straw will not be given to you, and you must give the full quota of bricks." ¹⁹ And the foremen of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* saw they were in trouble _⌊with the saying_⌋,* "You will not reduce from your bricks _⌊for each day_⌋* on its day." ²⁰ And they met Moses and Aaron, who were waiting to meet them when they were going out from Pharaoh. ²¹ And they said to them, "May Yahweh look upon you and judge because you have caused our fragrance to stink in the eyes of Pharaoh and in the eyes of his servants so as to put a sword into their hand to kill us." ²² And Moses returned to Yahweh and said, "Lord, why have you brought trouble to this people? Why ever did you send me? ²³ And from the time I came to Pharaoh to speak in your name, he has brought trouble to this people, and you have certainly not delivered your people."

⁴⁰ And the period of dwelling of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* that they dwelled in Egypt was four hundred and thirty years. ⁴¹ And at the end of four hundred and thirty years, on this exact day, all of Yahweh's divisions went out from the land of Egypt.

²¹ " 'You will not mistreat an alien, and you will not oppress him, because you were aliens in the land of Egypt.

⁹ And you will not oppress an alien; you yourselves know the feelings* of the alien, because you were aliens in the land of Egypt.

³⁴ The alien who is dwelling with you* shall be like a native among you,* and you* shall love him like yourself, * because you* were aliens in the land of Egypt; I am Yahweh your* God.

¹⁹ And you shall love the alien, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt.

¹¹ saying, "To you I will give the land of Canaan as the allotment that is your* inheritance." ¹² When they were _⌊few in number_⌋*— a trifle—and were sojourners in it,

²³ Then Israel came to Egypt, and Jacob was a sojourner in the land of Ham. ²⁴ And he* made his people very fruitful. He also made them* stronger than their* enemies. ²⁵ He turned their heart to hate his people, to deal deceitfully against his servants.

⁶ But God spoke like this: 'His descendants will be foreigners in a foreign land, and they will enslave them and mistreat them* four hundred years, ⁷ and the nation _⌊that_⌋* they will serve as slaves, I will judge,' God said, 'and after these things they will come out* and will worship me in this place.'*

¹⁷ "But as the time of the promise that God had made to Abraham was drawing near, the people increased and multiplied in Egypt

¹⁷ Now I am saying this: the law, that came after four hundred and thirty years, does not revoke a covenant previously ratified by God, in order to nullify the promise.

⁸ By faith Abraham, when he* was called, obeyed to go out to a place that he was going to receive for an inheritance, and he went out, not knowing where he was going. ⁹ By faith he lived in the land of promise as a stranger, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the fellow heirs of the same promise. ¹⁰ For he was expecting the city that has foundations, whose architect and builder is God. ¹¹ By faith also, _⌊with Sarah_⌋*,* he received _⌊the ability to procreate_⌋* even _⌊past the normal age_⌋*, because he regarded the one who had promised to be faithful. ¹² And therefore these were fathered from one man, and he being as good as dead, as the stars of heaven in number and like the innumerable sand by the shore of the sea. ¹³ These all died in faith without receiving the promises, but seeing them from a distance and welcoming them, and admitting that they were strangers and temporary residents on the earth.

¹ So Israel journeyed with all that he had, and he came to Beersheba and offered sacrifices to the God of his father, Isaac. ² And God spoke to Israel in visions of the night and said, "Jacob, Jacob." And he said, "Here I am." ³ Then he said, "I am the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you a great nation there. ⁴ I myself will go down with you to Egypt, and I myself will also bring you up. And Joseph will place his hand over your eyes." ⁵ So Jacob arose from Beersheba. And the sons of Israel carried their father Jacob, and their little ones and their wives in the wagons Pharaoh had sent to transport him. ⁶ And they took their livestock and their possessions that they had acquired in the land of Canaan. And they came to Egypt, Jacob and all his offspring with him, ⁷ his sons and his sons' sons with him, his daughters and his daughters' daughters with him, into Egypt. ⁸ Now these are the names of the sons of Israel, who came into Egypt, Jacob and his sons. Reuben, the firstborn of Jacob ⁹ and the sons of Reuben: Enoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi. ¹⁰ The sons of Simeon: Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jakin, Zohar, and Shaul, the son of a Canaanite woman. ¹¹ The sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. ¹² The sons of Judah: Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez, and Zerah (but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan). And the sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul. ¹³ The sons of Issachar: Tolah, Puvah, Iob, and Shimron. ¹⁴ The sons of Zebulun: Sered, Elon, and Jahleel. ¹⁵ These are the sons of Leah that she bore to Jacob in Paddan-Aram, and Dinah his daughter. His sons and daughters were thirty-three persons in all. ¹⁶ The sons of Gad: Ziphion, Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arodi, and Areli. ¹⁷ The sons of Asher: Imnah, Ishvah, Ishvi, and Beriah, and their sister Serah. And the sons of Beriah: Heber and Malkiel. ¹⁸ There are the sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to Leah his daughter, and she bore these to Jacob—sixteen persons. ¹⁹ The sons of Rachel, Jacob's wife: Joseph and Benjamin. ²⁰ And Ephraim and Manasseh, whom Asenath, daughter of Potiphera, priest of On bore to him, were born to Joseph in the land of Egypt. ²¹ The sons of Benjamin: Bela, Beker, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim, and Ard. ²² These are the sons of Rachel who were born to Jacob—fourteen persons in all. ²³ The sons of Dan: Hushim. ²⁴ The sons of Naphtali: Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and Shillem. ²⁵ These are the sons of Bilhah whom Laban gave to Rachel his daughter, and she bore these to Jacob—seven persons in all. ²⁶ All the persons belonging to Jacob who came to Egypt _⌊who were his descendants_⌋,* not including the wives of the sons of Jacob were sixty-six persons in all. ²⁷ And the sons of Joseph who were born to him in Egypt were two persons. All the persons of the house of Jacob who came to Egypt were seventy. ²⁸ He* had sent Judah ahead of him to Joseph to appear before him* in Goshen. And they came to the land of Goshen. ²⁹ Then Joseph harnessed his chariot and went up to meet Israel his father in Goshen. He presented himself to him and fell upon his neck and wept upon his neck a long time. ³⁰ Then Israel said to Joseph, "Now let me die since I have seen your face, for you are still alive." ³¹ Then Joseph said to his brothers and to his father's household, "I will go up and report to Pharaoh, and I will say to him, 'My brothers and my father's household who were in the land of Canaan have come to me. ³² And the men are shepherds, for they are men of livestock, and they have brought their flocks and their cattle and all that they have.' ³³ And it shall be that when Pharaoh calls you he will say, 'What is your occupation?' ³⁴ Then you must say, 'You servants are men of livestock from our childhood until now, both we and also our ancestors,'* so that you may dwell in the land of Goshen, for every shepherd is a detestable thing to Egyptians."

²¹ And I will give this people favor in the eyes of the Egyptians, _⌊and then_⌋* when you go, you will not go empty-handed. ²² And a woman will ask from her neighbor and from the woman dwelling as an alien in her house for objects of silver and objects of gold and garments, and you will put them on your sons and on your daughters; and you will plunder Egypt."

⁵ but also I myself heard the groaning of the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* whom the Egyptians are making to work, and I remembered my covenant. ⁶ Therefore say to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* 'I am Yahweh, and I will bring you out from under the _⌊forced labor_⌋* of Egypt, and I will deliver you from their slavery, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great punishments.

¹ And Yahweh said to Moses, "See, I have made you as a god to Pharaoh, and Aaron your brother will be your prophet. ² You will speak all that I will command you, and Aaron your brother will speak to Pharaoh, and he will release the _⌊Israelites_⌋* from his land. ³ And I myself will harden the heart of Pharaoh, and I will make my signs and my wonders numerous in the land of Egypt. ⁴ And Pharaoh will not listen to you, and I will put my hand into Egypt and bring out my divisions, my people, the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* from the land of Egypt with great punishments. ⁵ And the Egyptians will know that I am Yahweh when I stretch out my hand over Egypt and bring the _⌊Israelites_⌋* out from their midst." ⁶ And Moses and Aaron did it; as Yahweh commanded them, so they did. ⁷ (And Moses was _⌊eighty years old_⌋,* and Aaron was _⌊eighty-three years old_⌋* when they spoke to Pharaoh.) ⁸ And Yahweh said to Moses and to Aaron, saying, ⁹ "When Pharaoh speaks to you, saying, 'Do a wonder for yourselves,' you will say to Aaron, 'Take your staff and throw it before Pharaoh, and it will become a snake.'" ¹⁰ And Moses and Aaron came to Pharaoh, and they did so, as Yahweh had commanded. And Aaron threw his staff before Pharaoh and before his servants, and it became a snake. ¹¹ And Pharaoh also called the wise men and the sorcerers, and they also, the magicians of Egypt, did likewise with their secret arts. ¹² Each threw down his staff, and they became snakes, and Aaron's staff swallowed up their staffs. ¹³ And Pharaoh's heart was hard, and he did not listen to them, as Yahweh had said. ¹⁴ And Yahweh said to Moses, "Pharaoh's heart is _⌊insensitive_⌋;* he refuses to release the people.

³² Take both your sheep and goats as well as your cattle, and go, and bless also me." ³³ And the Egyptians urged the people in order to hurry their release* from the land, because they said, "All of us will die!"* ³⁴ And the people lifted up their dough before it had yeast; their kneading troughs were wrapped up in their cloaks on their shoulder. ³⁵ And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* did according to the word of Moses, and they asked from the Egyptians for objects of silver and objects of gold and for clothing. ³⁶ And Yahweh gave the people favor in the eyes of the Egyptians, and they granted their requests, and they plundered the Egyptians. ³⁷ And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* set out from Rameses to Succoth; the men were about six hundred thousand on foot,* besides dependents. ³⁸ And also a _⌊mixed multitude_⌋* went up with them and sheep and goats and cattle, very numerous livestock.

²⁰ But Yahweh has taken you and brought you out from the furnace of iron, from Egypt, to be a people of inheritance to* him, _⌊as it is this day_⌋.*

²² And Yahweh gave great and awesome signs and wonders in Egypt against Pharaoh and against his entire household _⌊in our presence_⌋.*

¹⁸ then remember you must not be afraid of them; you must well remember what Yahweh your God did to Pharaoh and to all of Egypt: ¹⁹ the great trials that your eyes saw and the signs and the wonders and the workings of the strong hand and the outstretched arm by which Yahweh your God brought you out; so Yahweh your God will do to all of the peoples _⌊because of whom_⌋* you are in fear _⌊before them_⌋.*

² And you shall realize _⌊today_⌋* that it is not with your children who have not known and who have not seen the discipline of Yahweh your God—his greatness, his strong hand, and his outstretched arm, ³ and his signs and his deeds that he did in the midst of Egypt to Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, and to all of his land, ⁴ and what he did to the army of Egypt and to their horses and to their chariots, and how he made the water of the _⌊Red Sea_⌋* flow over them, _⌊when they pursued after them_⌋,* and so Yahweh has destroyed them, _⌊as is the case today_⌋,*

⁴ and to Isaac I gave Jacob and Esau. To Esau I gave the hill country of Seir to possess, but Jacob and his children went down to Egypt. ⁵ And I sent Moses and Aaron, and I plagued Egypt with what I did in its midst; and afterward I brought you out. ⁶ When I brought out your ancestors* from Egypt, you came to the sea, and the Egyptians pursued after your ancestors* with chariots* and horsemen to the _⌊Red Sea_⌋.* ⁷ They cried out to Yahweh, and he put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and he brought the sea over them* and covered them; your own eyes saw what I did in Egypt. Then you lived in the wilderness for many days.

¹⁷ for Yahweh our God brought us and our ancestors* from the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery, and did these great signs before our eyes. He protected us along the entire way that we went, and among all the peoples through whose midst we passed.

⁸ "When Jacob came to Egypt, your ancestors* cried out to Yahweh, so he sent Moses and Aaron, and they brought your ancestors* out from Egypt and settled them in this place.

⁹ "You saw the misery of our ancestors* in Egypt, and you heard their shout at the Red Sea. ¹⁰ You gave signs and wonders against Pharaoh, all of his servants, and all of the people of his land because you knew that they acted arrogantly against them. You made a name for yourself, as it is this day. ¹¹ And you divided the sea before them, and they passed through the sea on dry ground, but their pursuers you threw into the depths like a stone into mighty waters.

⁴ Against you, only you, I have sinned and have done this evil* in your eyes, so that you are correct when you speak, you are blameless when you judge.

⁴³ how he performed* his signs in Egypt and his wonders in the region of Zoan, ⁴⁴ when he turned their rivers* to blood so they could not drink from their streams. ⁴⁵ He sent among them flies that devoured them and frogs that destroyed them. ⁴⁶ And he gave their crop to the locusts and their labor to the locust.* ⁴⁷ He destroyed their vines with hail and their sycamore trees with sleet.* ⁴⁸ He also handed their cattle over to the hail and their livestock to the lightning bolts. ⁴⁹ He sent against them his fierce anger, rage and indignation and trouble, a band of _⌊destroying_⌋* angels. ⁵⁰ He cleared a path for his anger. He did not spare them* from death but handed their life over to the plague. ⁵¹ And he struck down all the firstborn in Egypt, the first of their virility in the tents of Ham.

²⁷ They set before them the words concerning his signs and portents in the land of Ham. ²⁸ He sent darkness and made it dark, and they did not rebel against his words. ²⁹ He turned their waters into blood and it killed their fish. ³⁰ Their land swarmed with frogs, even in the chambers of their kings. ³¹ He spoke, and there came flies and gnats throughout all their territory.* ³² He gave hail for their rains and the fire of lightning in their land. ³³ And he struck their vines and fig trees, and shattered the trees of their territory. ³⁴ He spoke and there came locusts and young locusts without number. ³⁵ And they ate up all the vegetation in their land, and they ate up the fruit of their ground. ³⁶ And he struck down all the firstborn in their land, the first of all their virility. ³⁷ Then he brought them out with silver and gold, and there was none among his tribes who stumbled.

⁹ He sent signs and wonders into your midst, O Egypt, against Pharaoh and all his servants.

¹⁴ for Yahweh will plead the cause of his people and will have compassion on his servants.

⁴ "I am a stranger and an alien among you; give to me _⌊my own burial site_⌋* among you so that I may bury my dead from before me."

¹⁹ And thus afterward Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah near Mamre; that is Hebron, in the land of Canaan.

⁷ Now these are the days of the years of _⌊the life of Abraham_⌋:* one hundred and seventy-five years. ⁸ And Abraham passed away and died in a good old age, old and full of years. And he was gathered to his people. ⁹ And Isaac and Ishmael his sons buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron, son of Zohar the Hittite, that was east of Mamre,

²⁹ And Isaac passed away and died, and was gathered to his people, old and full of days. And his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.

²⁹ Then he instructed them and said to them, "I am about to be gathered to my people. Bury me among my ancestors* in the cave that is in the field of Ephron the Hittite,

³¹ There they buried Abraham and Sarah his wife. There they buried Isaac and Rebekah his wife. And there I buried Leah—

¹³ And his sons carried him to the land of Canaan and buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, which field Abraham had bought as a burial site from Ephron the Hittite before* Mamre.

²⁴ "Let Aaron be gathered to his people; he will not come into the land that I have given to the _⌊Israelites_⌋* because you rebelled against _⌊my word_⌋* at the waters of Meribah.

¹³ When you see it, you will be gathered to your people, just as Aaron your brother was gathered,

¹⁰ Moreover, that entire generation was gathered to their* ancestors,* and another generation grew up after them who did not know Yahweh or the work he had done for Israel.*

¹ Now David was old and full of days. And he made Solomon his son king over Israel.

²⁸ And he died in a good old age, full of days, wealth, and honor. And Solomon his son reigned in his place.

²⁸ 'Behold, I will gather you to your ancestors,* and you will be gathered to your grave in peace. Your eyes will not see any of the disaster that I am bringing upon this place.'" '"

²⁶ You shall come in maturity to the grave, as the raising up of a stack of sheaves in its season.

¹⁷ Then* Job died old and full of days.

³⁷ Observe the blameless and look at the upright, for there is a future for a man of peace.

³ Even if a man fathers a hundred children and lives many years so that the days of his years are many, if his heart* is not satisfied with _⌊his prosperity_⌋* and _⌊he does not receive a proper burial_⌋,* I deem the stillborn better than him.

⁷ And the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the breath returns to God who gave it.

¹ The righteous one perishes, and there is no one who takes* it to heart. And men of faithfulness are gathered, while there is no one who understands, for the righteous is gathered from the presence of wickedness. ² he enters into peace; they will rest on their beds, walking straight ahead of him.

¹ "At that time," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "they shall bring out the bones of the kings of Judah, and the bones of its officials, and the bones of the priests, and the bones of the prophets, and the bones of the inhabitants of Judah from their graves. ² And they shall spread them out before the sun, and before the moon, and before all the host of heaven, which they have loved, and which they have served, and which they have gone after, and which they have inquired about, and to which they have bowed in worship. They shall not be gathered, and they shall not be buried; they will be like dung on the surface of the ground.

¹³ But you, go on to the end and rest, and you will arise for your allotted inheritance at the end of the days."

³² "I am the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob"?* He is not the God of the dead, but of the living!"

³⁶ For David, after* serving the purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep and _⌊was buried with_⌋* his fathers, and experienced decay.

¹³ For when* God made a promise to Abraham, since he had no one greater to swear by, he swore by himself, ¹⁴ saying,
"Surely _⌊I will greatly bless_⌋* you, and _⌊I will greatly multiply_⌋* you." ¹⁵ And so, by* persevering, he obtained the promise. ¹⁶ For people swear by what is greater than themselves, and the oath for confirmation is the end of all dispute for them. ¹⁷ In the same way God, because he* wanted to show even more to the heirs of the promise the unchangeableness of his resolve, guaranteed it with an oath, ¹⁸ in order that through two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have taken refuge may have powerful encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us, ¹⁹ which we have like an anchor of the soul, both firm and steadfast, and entering into the inside of the curtain,

¹³ These all died in faith without receiving the promises, but seeing them from a distance and welcoming them, and admitting that they were strangers and temporary residents on the earth. ¹⁴ For those who say such things make clear that they are seeking a homeland. ¹⁵ And if they remember* that land from which they went out, they would have had opportunity to return. ¹⁶ But now they aspire to a better land, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city.

⁴⁰ And the period of dwelling of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* that they dwelled in Egypt was four hundred and thirty years.

²⁶ Also, he acted very abominably by going after idols like all the Amorites had done whom Yahweh had driven out from before the _⌊Israelites_⌋."*

²³ And at the end of their kingdom, when the transgressions are completed, a king will arise, fierce in countenance and skilled in riddles.

⁵ And the angel who was speaking to me went out, and he said to me, "_⌊Please look up_⌋!* See what this is going out." ⁶ And I asked, "What is it?" And he said, "This is a basket* going out. And he said, "This is their iniquity* throughout all the earth. ⁷ And look, the lead cover was lifted and a woman was sitting inside the basket.* ⁸ And he said, "This is Wickedness!" And he thrust her back down into the basket,* and threw the lead cover on top of it.* ⁹ And I _⌊looked up_⌋* and saw, and look!—two women coming forward, and the wind was in their wings, and they had wings like those of a stork, and they lifted up the basket* between the earth and the sky.* ¹⁰ And I asked the angel who was talking to me, "Where are they taking the basket?"* ¹¹ And he said to me, "To build for it a house* in the land of Shinar,* and when it is put in place, it will be placed there on its site."

³² And you—fill up the measure of your fathers! ³³ Serpents! Offspring of vipers! How will you escape from the condemnation to hell? ³⁴ For this reason, behold, I am sending to you prophets and wise men and scribes. Some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will flog in your synagogues and will pursue from town to town, ³⁵ so that upon you will come all the righteous blood shed on the earth from the blood of righteous Abel up to the blood of Zechariah son of Barachiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.

¹⁶ hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles in order that they may be saved, so that they always fill up their sins. But wrath has come upon them to the end.*

⁸ Now, dear friends, do not let this one thing escape your notice, that one day with the Lord is like a thousand years, and a thousand years is like one day. ⁹ The Lord is not delaying the promise, as some consider slowness, but is being patient toward you, because he* does not want any to perish, but all to come to repentance.

² And the angel of Yahweh appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush, and he looked, and there was the bush burning with fire, but the bush was not being consumed. ³ And Moses said, "Let me turn aside and see this great sight. Why does the bush not burn up?"

²¹ Then the angel of Yahweh reached out the tip of the staff that was in his hand, and he touched the meat and the unleavened cakes; and fire went up from the rock and consumed the meat and the unleavened cakes. And the angel of Yahweh went _⌊from his sight_⌋.*

²⁰ And when the flame went up toward the heaven from the altar, the angel of Yahweh went up in the flame of the altar to heaven while Manoah and his wife were watching. And they fell on their faces to the ground.

⁹ Smoke went up from his nostrils and fire from his mouth. Burning coals devoured, they burned from him.

²⁶ Then David built an altar there to Yahweh, and he offered burnt offerings and peace offerings, and he called to Yahweh. And he answered him with fire from heaven upon the altar of burnt offering.

¹ For the sake of Zion I will not be silent, and for the sake of Jerusalem I will not maintain a quiet attitude, until her righteousness goes out like the bright light, and her salvation burns like a torch.

⁴ which I commanded your ancestors* in the day of my bringing them from the land of Egypt, from the furnace of iron, _⌊saying_⌋,* 'Listen to my voice and do according to all that I command you, _⌊so will you be my people, and I will be your God_⌋.'*

¹⁴ And the name of the third is Tigris. It flows east of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.

⁸ And God said to Noah and to his sons with him, ⁹ "As for me, behold, I am establishing my covenant with you and with your seed after you, ¹⁰ and with every living creature that is with you—the birds, the animals, and every animal of the earth with you, from all that came out of the ark to all the animals of the earth. ¹¹ I am establishing my covenant with you, that never again will all flesh be cut off by the waters of a flood, nor will there ever be a flood that destroys the earth." ¹² And God said, "This is the sign of the covenant that I am making between me and you, and between every living creature that is with you for future generations. ¹³ My bow I have set in the clouds, and it shall be for a sign of the covenant between me and between the earth. ¹⁴ And when I make clouds appear over the earth the bow shall be seen in the clouds. ¹⁵ Then* I will remember my covenant that is between me and you, and between every living creature, with all flesh. And the waters of a flood will never again _⌊cause the destruction_⌋* of all flesh. ¹⁶ The bow shall be in the clouds, and I will see it, so as to remember the everlasting covenant between God and between every living creature, with all flesh that is upon the earth." ¹⁷ And God said to Noah, "This is the sign of the covenant which I am establishing between me and all flesh that is upon the earth.

¹⁵ for all the land which you see I will give to you, and to your descendants, forever.

¹ When* Abram was ninety-nine years old Yahweh appeared to Abram. And he said to him, "I am El-Shaddai;* walk before me and be blameless ² so that* I may make my covenant between me and you, and may multiply you _⌊exceedingly_⌋."* ³ Then Abram fell upon his face and God spoke with him, saying, ⁴ "As for me, behold, my covenant shall be with you, and you shall be the father of a multitude of nations. ⁵ Your name shall no longer be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham, for I will make you the father of a multitude of nations. ⁶ And I will make you _⌊exceedingly_⌋* fruitful. I will make you a nation, and kings shall go out from you. ⁷ And I will establish my covenant between me and you, and between your offspring after you, throughout their generations as an everlasting covenant to be as God for you and to your offspring after you. ⁸ And I will give to you and to your offspring after you _⌊the land in which you are living as an alien_⌋,* all the land of Canaan, as an everlasting property. And I will be to them as God." ⁹ And God said to Abraham, "Now as for you, you must keep my covenant, you and your offspring after you, throughout their generations. ¹⁰ This is my covenant which you shall keep, between me and you, and also with* your offspring after you: Every male among you shall be circumcised. ¹¹ And you shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and you. ¹² And _⌊at eight days of age_⌋* you shall yourselves circumcise every male belonging to your generations and _⌊the servant born in your house and the one bought from any foreigner_⌋* who is not from your offspring. ¹³ _⌊You must certainly circumcise_⌋* _⌊the servant born in your house and the one bought from any foreigner_⌋.* And my covenant shall be with your flesh as an everlasting covenant. ¹⁴ And as for any uncircumcised male who has not circumcised the flesh of his foreskin, that person shall be cut off from his* people. He has broken my covenant. ¹⁵ And God said to Abraham, "as for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, for Sarah shall be her name. ¹⁶ And I will bless her; moreover, I give to you from her a son. And I will bless her, and _⌊she shall give rise to nations_⌋.* Kings of peoples shall come* from her." ¹⁷ And Abraham fell upon his face and laughed. And he said in his heart, "_⌊Can a child be born to a man a hundred years old_⌋,* or _⌊can Sarah bear a child at ninety_⌋?"* ¹⁸ And Abraham said to God, "Oh that Ishmael might live before you!" ¹⁹ And God said, "No, but Sarah your wife shall bear a son for you, and you shall call his name Isaac. And I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant to his offspring after him. ²⁰ And as for Ishmael, I have heard you. Behold, I will bless him and I will make him fruitful, and I will multiply him _⌊exceedingly_⌋.* He shall father twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation. ²¹ But my covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah shall bear to you at this appointed time next year." ²² When* he finished speaking with him, God went up from Abraham. ²³ And Abraham took Ishmael his son and all who were born of his house, and all those acquired by his money, every male among the men of Abraham's house, and he circumcised the flesh of their foreskin on the same day that God spoke with him. ²⁴ Abraham was ninety-nine years old when he circumcised the flesh of his foreskin. ²⁵ And Ishmael his son was thirteen years old when he circumcised the flesh of his foreskin. ²⁶ Abraham and his son Ishmael were circumcised on the same day. ²⁷ And all the men of his house, _⌊those born in the house, and those acquired by money from a foreigner_⌋,* were circumcised with him.

⁷ Yahweh, the God of heaven who took me from the house of my father and from the land of my family, and who spoke to me and swore to me, saying, 'to your offspring I will give this land,' he will send his angel before you, and you shall take a wife for my son from there.

⁴ And may he give you the blessing of Abraham, to you and to your descendants with you, that you may take possession of the land of your sojourning, which God gave to Abraham."

¹³ And behold, Yahweh was standing beside him,* and he said, "I am Yahweh, the God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac. The ground on which you were sleeping I will give to you and to your descendants. ¹⁴ Your descendants shall be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west, and to the east, and to the north and to the south. And all the families of the earth will be blessed through you and through your descendants.

¹² And as for the land that I gave to Abraham and to Isaac, I will give it to you. And to your descendants after you I will give the land.

²⁴ And Joseph said to his brothers, "I am about to die, but God will certainly visit you and bring you up from this land to the land that he swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob."

⁸ And I have come down to deliver them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up from this land to a good and wide land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites* and the Hittites* and the Amorites* and the Perizzites* and the Hivites* and the Jebusites.*

⁴ And I not only established my covenant with them to give to them the land of Canaan, the land of their sojournings, in which they dwelt as aliens,

²³ When my angel goes before you and brings you to the Amorites* and the Hittites* and the Perizzites* and the Canaanites* and the Hivites* and the Jebusites,* I will wipe them out.

²⁷ " 'I will release my terror before you, and I will throw into confusion all the people against whom you come, and I will _⌊make all your enemies turn their back to you_⌋.* ²⁸ And I will send the hornet before you, and it will drive out the Hivites,* the Canaanites,* and the Hittites* from before you. ²⁹ I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become a desolation and _⌊the wild animals_⌋* multiply against you. ³⁰ Little by little I will drive them out from before you until you are fruitful and take possession of the land. ³¹ " 'And I will set your boundary from the _⌊Red Sea_⌋* and up to the sea of the Philistines and from the desert up to the river,* because I will give the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you will drive them out from before you.

¹¹ "Keep for yourself what I myself have commanded you today. Look, I am about to drive from before you the Amorites and the Canaanites* and the Hittites* and the Perizzites* and the Hivites* and the Jebusites.*

² "Command the _⌊Israelites_⌋* and say to them, 'When you come into the land of Canaan, this is the land that was allotted to you as an inheritance, the land of Canaan according to its boundaries. ³ Your southern edge will be from the desert of Zin toward the side of Edom, and your southern border will be from the end of the Salt Sea* to the east;

⁵ The boundary will turn from Azmon to the valley of Egypt, and its limits will be to the sea.

⁷ Turn now and _⌊move on_⌋,* and go into the hill of the Amorites* and to all of the neighboring regions* in the Jordan _⌊Valley_⌋* in the hill country and in the Negev and in the coastal area along the sea, into the land of the Canaanites* and into the Lebanon, as far as the great river Euphrates. ⁸ Look, I have set the land _⌊before you_⌋;* go and take possession of the land that Yahweh swore to your ancestors,* to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give it to them and to their offspring after them.'

¹ "When Yahweh your God brings you into the land that you are about to enter _⌊into it_⌋* to take possession of it, and he drives* out many nations _⌊before you_⌋,* the Hittites* and the Girgashites* and the Amorites* and the Canaanites* and the Hivites* and the Jebusites,* seven nations mightier and more numerous than you,

²⁴ Every place on which the sole of your foot treads, it shall be yours; your boundary shall be from the desert and Lebanon from the river, the river Euphrates, on up to the western sea.*

⁴ And Yahweh said to him, "This is the land that I swore to Abraham to Isaac and to Jacob, _⌊saying_⌋,* 'To your offspring I will give it.' I have let you see it with your eyes, but you shall not cross _⌊into it_⌋."*

³ Every place that the soles of your feet will tread, I have given it to you, as I promised* to Moses. ⁴ From the wilderness _⌊and the Lebanon_⌋,* up to the great river, the river Euphrates, all of the land of the Hittites, and up to _⌊the great sea in the west_⌋,* will be your territory.

¹ These are the kings of the land whom the _⌊Israelites_⌋* defeated, and of whose land they took possession beyond the Jordon _⌊to the east_⌋,* from the wadi* of Arnon up to Mount Hermon, and all the Arabah* to the east: ² Sihon king of the Amorites, who lived in Heshbon, and ruled from Aroer, which is on the edge of the wadi* of Arnon, from the middle of the valley and half of Gilead, up to the _⌊Jabbok River_⌋,* which marks the border of the _⌊Ammonites_⌋;* ³ and the Arabah* up to the Kinnereth Sea* to the east, and as far as the sea of Arabah, the Salt Sea* to the east, _⌊in the direction of_⌋* Beth Jeshimoth, and to the area southward, _⌊at the foot of_⌋* the slopes of Pisgah;* ⁴ the territory of Og king of Bashan, one of the last of the Rephaites, who lived at Ashtaroth and Edrei ⁵ and ruled over Mount Hermon and Salecah and over all Bashan up to the border of the Geshurites* and the Maacathites,* and half of Gilead, as far as the border of Sihon king of Heshbon. ⁶ Moses Yahweh's servant and the _⌊Israelites_⌋* defeated them; and Moses Yahweh's servant gave it as a possession to the Reubenites,* the Gadites,* and the half-tribe of Manasseh. ⁷ These are the kings of the land whom Joshua and the _⌊Israelites_⌋* defeated beyond to the Jordan to the west, from Baal Gad in the valley of Lebanon,* and up to Mount Halak, which rises to Seir. And Joshua gave it as a possession to the tribes of Israel according to their allotments, ⁸ in the hill country, the Shephelah,* the Arabah,* on the slopes, in the wilderness, and in the Negev;* the Hittites,* the Amorites,* the Canaanites,* the Perizzites,* the Hivites,* and the Jebusites:* ⁹ the king of Jericho, one; the king of Ai, which is beside Bethel, one; ¹⁰ the king of Jerusalem, one; the king of Hebron, one; ¹¹ the king of Jarmuth, one; the king of Lachish, one; ¹² the king of Eglon, one; the king of Gezer, one; ¹³ the king of Debir, one; the king of Geder, one; ¹⁴ the king of Hormah, one; the king of Arad, one; ¹⁵ the king of Libnah, one; the king of Adullam, one; ¹⁶ the king of Makkedah, one; the king of Bethel, one; ¹⁷ the king of Tappuah, one; the king of Hepher, one; ¹⁸ the king of Aphek, one; the king of Lasharon, one; ¹⁹ the king of Madon, one; the king of Hazor, one; ²⁰ the king of Shimron-meron, one; the king of Acshaph, one;

⁴ _⌊it passes on_⌋* to Azmon, continues* by the wadi of Egypt, and _⌊it ends_⌋* at the sea. This will be your southern border.

¹ The second allotment _⌊fell_⌋* for Simeon, for the tribe of the descendants* of Simeon, according to their families. And their inheritance was in the midst of the inheritance of the descendants* of Judah. ² And they had as their inheritance Beersheba, Sheba, Moladah, ³ Hazar Shual, Balah, Ezem, ⁴ Eltolad, Bethul, Hormah, ⁵ Ziklag, Beth Marcaboth, Hazar Susah, ⁶ Beth Lebaoth, and Sharuhen; thirteen cities and their villages. ⁷ Ain, Rimmon, Ether, and Ashan; four cities and their villages, ⁸ and all the villages that were around these towns up to Baalat-Beor, Ramath of the Negev.* This was the inheritance of the tribe of the descendants* of Simeon according to their families. ⁹ Part of the portion allotted to the descendants* of Judah became the inheritance of the descendants* of Simeon because the portion for the descendants* of Judah was _⌊too large for them_⌋,* so the descendants* of Simeon inherited from their inheritance. ¹⁰ The third allotment came up for the descendants* of Zebulun according to their families. The border of their inheritance went up to Sarid. ¹¹ Their border goes up to the west, to Maralah; it touches* Dabbesheth, then the wadi* that is opposite Jokneam. ¹² It turns from Sarid to the east to the sunrise, to the border of Kislot-Tabor; it continues to Daberath and goes up to Japhia. ¹³ From there it passes along to the east toward the sunrise, to Gath Hepher and to Eth Kazin, and continuing to Rimmon, it turns to Neah; ¹⁴ it changes direction from the north of Hannathon, and _⌊it ends_⌋* at the valley of Yiptah-El; ¹⁵ Kattath, Nahalal, Shimron, Idalah, and Bethlehem; twelve cities and their villages. ¹⁶ This is the inheritance of the descendants* of Zebulun according to their families, these cities and their villages. ¹⁷ The fourth allotment _⌊fell_⌋* for Issachar, for the descendants* of Issachar, according to their families. ¹⁸ Their border went to Jezreel, Chesulloth, Shunem, ¹⁹ Hapharaim, Shion, Anaharath, ²⁰ Rabbith, Kishion, Ebez, ²¹ Remeth, En Gannim, En Haddah, and Beth Pazzez; ²² and the border touches Tabor, Shahazumah, and Beth Shemesh. _⌊Its border ends_⌋* at the Jordan; sixteen cities and their villages. ²³ This is the inheritance of the tribe of the descendants* of Issachar according to their families, the cities and their villages. ²⁴ The fifth allotment _⌊fell_⌋* for the tribe of the descendants* of Asher according to their families. ²⁵ Their border was Helkath, Hali, Beten, Acshaph, ²⁶ Allamelech, Amad, and Mishal; it touches Carmel to the west, and Shihor-Libnat. ²⁷ Then it turns _⌊eastward_⌋* to Beth-dagon and touches Zebulun and the valley of Yiptah-El to the north* to Beth Emeck and Neiel; it continues to Cabul from the north, ²⁸ and Ebron, Rehob, Hammon, and Kanah up to Great Sidon; ²⁹ then the border turns to Ramah, and up to the fortified city of Tyre, where the border turns to Hosah; _⌊it ends_⌋* at the sea, from Hebel to Aczib. ³⁰ Included were Ummah, Aphek, and Rehob; twenty-two cities and their villages. ³¹ This is the inheritance of the tribe of the descendants* of Asher according to their families, these cities and their villages. ³² The sixth allotment _⌊fell_⌋* for the children of Naphtali, for the children of Naphtali according to their families. ³³ Their border was from Heleph, from the oak in Zaanannim, Adami Nekeb, Jabneel, up to Lakkum; _⌊it ends_⌋* at the Jordan; ³⁴ then the border turns to the west, to Aznoth Tabor, and continues from there to Hukok, and it touches* Zebulun on the south, Asher on the west, and Judah on _⌊the east_⌋* at the Jordan. ³⁵ _⌊The fortified cities_⌋* are Ziddim, Zer, Hammath, Rakkath, Kinnereth, ³⁶ Adamah, Ramah, Hazor, ³⁷ Kedesh, Edrei, En Hazor, ³⁸ Yiron, Migdal El, Horem, Beth-anath, Beth Shemesh; nineteen cities and their villages.

³ Then David struck down Hadadezer the son of Rehob, king of Zobah, when he went to restore his monument* at the Euphrates River.

⁵ Yet not so is my house with God, for he made an everlasting covenant for me, arranging everything. He has secured all my deliverance, and all my desire he will cause to happen.

²¹ * Now Solomon was ruling over all the kingdoms from the River* to the land of the Philistines, and up to the border of Egypt, who were bringing tribute and were serving Solomon all the days of his life.

⁹ He also lived to the east up to the entrance of the desert _⌊this side of_⌋* the River Euphrates, for their livestock had multiplied in the land of Gilead.

²⁶ And he ruled over all the kings from the River* to the land of the Philistines, to the boundary of Egypt.

⁸ You found his heart faithful before you and made a covenant with him to give the land of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Jebusite and the Girgashite—to give it to his seed. And you have kept your word because you are righteous.

¹² And this shall happen:
on that day, Yahweh will thresh from the floodwaters of the Euphrates to the wadi* of Egypt, and as for you, you will be gathered one by one, sons of Israel.

³ Extend your ear, and come to me! Listen so that* your soul may live, and I will _⌊make_⌋* an everlasting covenant with* you, the enduring proofs of _⌊the mercies shown to_⌋* David.

³¹ Look, the days are coming," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "and I will _⌊make_⌋* a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, ³² not like the covenant that I _⌊made_⌋* with their ancestors* on the day of my grasping them* by their hand, bringing them out from the land of Egypt, my covenant that they themselves broke, though I myself was a master over them," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh. ³³ "But this is the covenant that I will _⌊make_⌋* with the house of Israel after those days," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh: "I will put my law in their inward parts and on their hearts* I will write it, and I will be to them God, and they themselves will be to me people. ³⁴ And they will no longer teach each one his neighbor, or each one his brother, _⌊saying_⌋,* 'Know Yahweh,' for all of them will know me, from their _⌊smallest_⌋* and up to their _⌊greatest_⌋,"* _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "for I will forgive their iniquity and their sin I will no longer remember."

⁴⁰ And I will _⌊make_⌋* with them _⌊an everlasting covenant_⌋* that I will not turn away from them, my doing good to them, and my reverence I will put in their hearts* so that they will not turn aside from me.

²⁰ "Thus says Yahweh: 'If you could break my covenant with the day, and my covenant with the night, so that day and night would not come at their time, ²¹ then my covenant could be broken with David my servant, from _⌊having_⌋* a son who could rule on his throne, and with the Levites, the priests, my ministers. ²² As the host of heaven cannot be counted, and the sand of the sea cannot be measured, so I will make numerous the offspring of David my servant and the Levites who minister to me.'" ²³ And the word of Yahweh came to Jeremiah, _⌊saying_⌋,* ²⁴ "Have you not seen how these people speak, _⌊saying_⌋,* 'The two clans* whom Yahweh chose, he has also rejected them'? Thus they spurn my people from being a nation _⌊before them_⌋* any longer. ²⁵ Thus says Yahweh: 'If my covenant with day and with night, the regulations of heaven and earth, I had not established, ²⁶ then the offspring of Jacob and David my servant I would reject, from choosing rulers from his offspring over the offspring of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; for I will restore their fortunes* and I will have compassion on them.'"

¹⁵ Brothers, I am speaking according to a human perspective. Nevertheless, when* the covenant of a man has been ratified, no one declares it invalid or adds additional provisions to it. ¹⁶ Now to Abraham and to his descendant the promises were spoken. It does not say, "and to descendants," as concerning many, but as concerning one, "and to your descendant,"* who is Christ. ¹⁷ Now I am saying this: the law, that came after four hundred and thirty years, does not revoke a covenant previously ratified by God, in order to nullify the promise.

²⁰ Now may the God of peace, who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant,

²¹ And he looked at the Kenites,* _⌊uttered_⌋* his oracle, and said,
"Steady is your dwelling place; in the rock is your nest. ²² Nevertheless, the Kenite will be burned; how long will Asshur keep* you captive?"

⁵ In the fourteenth year Kedorlaomer and the kings who were with him came and defeated the Rephaim in Ashteroth-Karnaim, and the Zuzim in Ham, and the Emim in Shaveh-Kiriathaim,

⁵ And it shall be as _⌊when a reaper gathers_⌋* standing grain and he reaps grain with his arm, and it shall be like one who gathers ears of grain in the valley of Rephaim.

¹⁵ Canaan fathered Sidon, his firstborn, and Heth, ¹⁶ and the Jebusites, the Amorites, the Girgashites, ¹⁷ the Hivites, the Arkites, the Sinites, ¹⁸ the Arvadites, the Zemarites, and the Hamathites. Afterward the families of the Canaanites were spread abroad. ¹⁹ And the territory of the Canaanites was from Sidon _⌊in the direction of_⌋* Gerar as far as Gaza, and _⌊in the direction of_⌋* Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha.

²³ When my angel goes before you and brings you to the Amorites* and the Hittites* and the Perizzites* and the Canaanites* and the Hivites* and the Jebusites,* I will wipe them out. ²⁴ " 'You will not bow to their gods, and you will not serve them, and you will not act according to their actions, because you will utterly demolish them, and you will utterly break their stone pillars. ²⁵ And you will serve Yahweh your God, and he will bless your bread and your water, and I will remove sickness from among you. ²⁶ There will be no one suffering miscarriage or infertile in your land. I will make full the number of your days.* ²⁷ " 'I will release my terror before you, and I will throw into confusion all the people against whom you come, and I will _⌊make all your enemies turn their back to you_⌋.* ²⁸ And I will send the hornet before you, and it will drive out the Hivites,* the Canaanites,* and the Hittites* from before you.

² And I will send an angel before you, and I will drive out the Canaanites,* the Amorites,* and the Hittites* and the Perizzites,* the Hivites,* and the Jebusites,*

²⁸ And when* he came to the other side,* to the region of the Gadarenes,* two demon-possessed men coming from among the tombs met him, very violent, so that no one was able to pass by along that road.
