¹ So the king and Haman went _⌊to dine_⌋* with Queen Esther. ² And the king again said to Esther, on the second day _⌊while they were drinking_⌋,* "What is your petition, Queen Esther? It will be given to you. What is your request? It will be given to you—even half the kingdom." ³ Then Queen Esther answered, and she said, "If I have found favor in your eyes,* O king, and if it is good to the king, let my life be given to me at my petition and my people at my request; ⁴ I and my people have been sold to be destroyed and killed, to be annihilated. If we had been sold as male and female slaves I would have kept quiet, because this* is not a need sufficient to trouble the king."* ⁵ And King Ahasuerus said to Queen Esther, "Who is he, and where is he, who _⌊gave himself the right to do this_⌋?"* ⁶ And Esther said, "The adversary and enemy is this evil Haman!" And Haman was terrified before the king and queen. ⁷ The king rose in his anger _⌊from the banquet_⌋* and went to the palace garden, and Haman stood to beg for his life from Queen Esther, for _⌊he realized that the king was determined to make an end to his life_⌋.* ⁸ And the king returned from the palace garden to the _⌊banquet hall_⌋,* where Haman was lying prostrate on the couch that Esther was on, and the king said, "Will he also molest the queen with me in the house?" As the words* went from the king's mouth they covered Haman's face. ⁹ And Habrona, one of the eunuchs in the presence of the king, said, "Look, the same gallows that Haman had prepared for Mordecai who spoke good for the sake of the king stands at Haman's house, fifty cubits high." And the king said, "Hang him on it." ¹⁰ And they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai, and the anger of the king was abated.

¹⁵ The couriers went out quickly by order of the king, and the law was issued in the citadel of Susa. The king and Haman sat down to drink; and the city of Susa was bewildered.*

⁸ If I have found favor in the eyes of the king,* and if it is good to the king to grant my petition and fulfill my request, let the king and Haman come to the banquet that I will prepare for them tomorrow, and I will do according to the word of the king.

³ And the king said to her, "What is it, Queen Esther? What is your request? It will be given to you—even half the kingdom."

⁶ And the king said to Esther _⌊while they were drinking wine_⌋,* "What is your petition? It will be given to you. What is your request? Even half the kingdom, it will done.

¹² And the king said to Queen Esther, "In the citadel of Susa the Jews killed and destroyed five hundred men and the ten sons of Haman. What have they done in the rest of the king's provinces? What is your petition? It will be granted to you. And what further is your request? It will be done."

²⁴ Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete.

³¹ Then his servants said to him, "Please now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are kings of mercy. Let us now put sackcloth on around our waists and ropes on our heads. Then let us go out to the king of Israel. Perhaps _⌊he will let you live_⌋."*

¹³ So he _⌊again sent_⌋* a third time a commander of fifty and his fifty, and the commander of the third fifty went up and came and knelt down on his knees before Elijah and entreated him. He said to him, "O man of God, please let my life and the lives of your servants, these fifty, be precious in your eyes.

⁸ And he gave him a copy of the edict of the law that had been issued in Susa for their destruction to show Esther, and to inform her, and to charge her to go to the king and make supplication to him and entreat before him for her people.

⁷ The king rose in his anger _⌊from the banquet_⌋* and went to the palace garden, and Haman stood to beg for his life from Queen Esther, for _⌊he realized that the king was determined to make an end to his life_⌋.*

⁴ Then* Satan* answered him and said, "Skin for skin! All that _⌊that_⌋* man has he will give for his life.

⁶ Pray* for the peace of Jerusalem: "May those who love you be at ease. ⁷ May peace be within your walls, security within your palaces." ⁸ For the sake of my brothers and my friends, I will say, "Peace be within you." ⁹ For the sake of the house* of Yahweh our God, I will seek your good.

²⁶ Then you shall say to them, 'I was presenting my plea _⌊before_⌋* the king, to not cause me to return to the house of Jonathan to die there.'"

²⁶ Then Judah said to his brothers, "What profit is there if we kill our brother and conceal his blood? ²⁷ Come, let us sell him to the Ishmaelites, but our hand shall not be against him, for he is our brother, our own flesh." And his brothers agreed. ²⁸ Then Midianite traders passed by. And they* drew Joseph up and brought him up from the pit, and they sold Joseph to the Ishmaelites for twenty pieces of silver. And they brought Joseph to Egypt.

⁶⁸ And Yahweh shall bring you back to Egypt in ships by the route that I _⌊promised_⌋* to you that '_⌊You shall not see it again_⌋!'* And you shall sell yourself there to your enemies as slaves and as female slaves, but there will not be a buyer."

²³ Therefore you are cursed; some of you will always be slaves as woodcutters and water carriers for the house of my God."

²³ Stay with me! Do not fear, because he who seeks my life seeks your life. You are in good care with me."

⁵ Now our flesh is like the flesh of our brothers, our sons are like their sons. Look, we are subduing our sons and our daughters to be slaves, and there are some from our daughters being molested. _⌊We are powerless_⌋,* and our fields and vineyards belong to others."

⁹ If it pleases the king, let a decree be issued to destroy them, and I will pay* ten thousand talents* of silver to those who do the job, to bring to the treasury of the king."

¹³ Letters were sent by couriers* to all the provinces of the king to destroy, to kill, and to annihilate all the Jews, _⌊both young and old_⌋,* women and children, on one day, the thirteenth day of the month, that is Adar, and to plunder their goods.

⁷ and Mordecai told him all that had happened to him, and the exact amount of money that Haman has promised to pay to the treasury of the king for the destruction of the Jews. ⁸ And he gave him a copy of the edict of the law that had been issued in Susa for their destruction to show Esther, and to inform her, and to charge her to go to the king and make supplication to him and entreat before him for her people.

⁶ And Esther said, "The adversary and enemy is this evil Haman!" And Haman was terrified before the king and queen.

¹¹ In them the king allowed the Jews who were in every city to assemble and _⌊defend their lives_⌋,* to destroy and kill and annihilate any army of any people or province attacking them, including women and children, and to plunder their spoil,

²² Rather, on account of you we are killed _⌊all day long_⌋;* we are accounted as sheep for slaughter. ²³ Wake up! Why do you sleep, O Lord? Awake! Do not reject forever.

⁶ And the sons of Judah and Jerusalem you sold to the sons of the Greeks, in order to remove them from their border.

⁶ Thus says Yahweh: "For three transgressions of Israel and for four I will not revoke the punishment,* because they sell the righteous for money and the poor for a pair of sandals!

³³ Then Isaac _⌊trembled violently_⌋.* Then he said, "Who then was he that hunted wild game and brought it to me, and I ate it all before you came, and I blessed him? Moreover, he will be blessed!"

²⁴ The earth is given into the hand of the wicked; he covers the face of its judge— if it is not he, then who is it?

³ But Peter said, "Ananias, for what reason has Satan filled your heart, that you lied to the Holy Spirit and kept back for yourself some of the proceeds of the piece of land?

¹³ Just as the ancient proverb says, 'From the wicked, wickedness goes out,' but my hand will not be against you!

¹⁶ When our enemies heard of this, all of the nations surrounding us were afraid and _⌊lost their confidence_⌋.* They knew that this work had been done with the help of our God.

¹⁰ So the king removed his signet ring from his hand and gave it to Haman son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the enemy of the Jews.

²¹ Sounds of terror are in his ears; in prosperity the destroyer will come against him. ²² _⌊He cannot trust that he will return_⌋* from darkness, and he himself* is destined for the sword.

⁵ Furthermore,* the light of the wicked is put out, and the flame of his fire will not shine. ⁶ The light becomes dark in his tent, and his lamp above him is put out. ⁷ "_⌊His strong steps_⌋* are shortened, and his own schemes* throw him down, ⁸ for he is thrust into a net by his feet, and he walks into a pitfall. ⁹ A trap seizes him by the heel; a snare takes hold of him. ¹⁰ His rope is hidden in the ground, and his trap on the path. ¹¹ "Sudden terrors terrify him all around, and they chase him at his heels. ¹² His wealth will become hunger, and disaster is ready for his stumbling.

² When evildoers drew near against me to eat my flesh— my adversaries and my enemies who drew near to me— they themselves stumbled and fell.

⁵ They do not have _⌊ordinary trouble_⌋,* and they are not plagued as other people.* ⁶ Therefore pride is their necklace; an outfit of violence covers them. ⁷ Their eye bulges from fat.* Imaginings overflow their heart. ⁸ They mock and speak maliciously of oppression; they speak as though from on high. ⁹ They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue roams the earth.

¹⁷ until I went into the sanctuary of God. Then I understood their fate. ¹⁸ Surely you set them on slippery places. You cause them to fall onto ruin.* ¹⁹ How they become a desolation in a moment! They come to a complete end by terrors. ²⁰ Like a dream upon awakening, when you wake up, O Lord, you will despise their fleeting form.*

¹⁹ If only you would kill the wicked, O God— so get away from me, you _⌊bloodthirsty men_⌋—* ²⁰ who speak against you deceitfully. Your enemies take your name in vain. ²¹ Do I not hate those who hate you, O Yahweh? And do I not loathe those who rise up against you? ²² I hate them with a complete hatred; they have become my enemies.

¹⁴ The wrath of a king is a messenger of death, but one who is wise will appease* it.

²⁴ Whoever says to the guilty, "You are righteous," the people will curse him; the nations will abhor him. ²⁵ But they who rebuke will have delight, and upon them blessings of goodness will come.

⁸ Do not be surprised if you see the poor being oppressed with violence or do not see justice and righteousness in the province. For one official is watched by a higher official, and there are even higher officials over them!

⁴ My _⌊mind_⌋* staggers; fear terrifies me; the twilight _⌊I desired_⌋* _⌊brought_⌋* me fear.

⁵ _⌊Immediately_⌋* _⌊human fingers_⌋* appeared and they wrote _⌊opposite_⌋* the lampstand on the plaster of the wall of the palace of the king, and the king was watching* the palm of the hand that was writing. ⁶ Then his face changed and his thoughts terrified him, and _⌊his hip joints gave way_⌋* and _⌊his knees knocked together_⌋.*

¹³ But those outside God will judge. Remove the evil person _⌊from among yourselves_⌋*.

⁸ and then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will slay with the breath of his mouth, and wipe out by the appearance of his coming,

⁷ If he says 'Good,' it will mean peace for your servant; but if he is very angry, know that _⌊he has decided to do me harm_⌋.*

⁹ Then Jonathan said, "Far be it from you! For if I know for certain that _⌊my father decided evil should come upon you_⌋,* would I not have told it to you?"

¹⁷ And so then, know and _⌊consider_⌋* what you should do, for evil has been decided against our master and against all his household, and he is such _⌊a wicked man_⌋,* _⌊nobody can reason with him_⌋!"*

⁵ And when those days were completed, the king gave for all the people that were present at the citadel of Susa, both great and small, a banquet in the courtyard of the king's palace garden that lasted seven days.

¹² But Queen Vashti refused to come at the word of the king that was _⌊conveyed by_⌋* the eunuchs. And the king became very angry, and his anger burned in him.

¹⁰ The wicked* sees it and is vexed. He gnashes his teeth and _⌊becomes weak_⌋.* The desire of the wicked* perishes.

¹⁹ The evil bow down before the good, and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.

¹² The rage of a king growls like a lion, but his favor is like dew on the grass.

¹⁴ And the children of those who oppressed you shall come to you bending low, and all those who treated you disrespectfully shall bow down at the soles of your feet. And they shall call you the city of Yahweh, Zion of the holy one of Israel.

¹⁹ Then Nebuchadnezzar was filled with anger and the image of his face was changed _⌊toward_⌋* Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, so he _⌊ordered and said_⌋* to heat up the one furnace seven times what was usual to heat it up.

⁹ Behold, I am causing those of the synagogue of Satan, the ones who call themselves Jews and are not, but are lying—behold, I will make them _⌊come_⌋* and kneel down before your feet and acknowledge that I have loved you.

⁶ There were curtains of finely woven linen and blue cloth tied with cords of fine white linen and purple cloth to silver curtain rings and pillars of alabaster, and couches of gold and silver on a paved floor of alabaster, precious stone, mother-of-pearl, and costly stones.*

¹² Then Mordecai returned to the gate of the king, and Haman rushed to his house mournful and with his head covered.

¹⁷ Look! Yahweh is about to _⌊really hurl_⌋* you, man! And he is about to grasp you firmly;

²³ And kings shall be your _⌊guardians_⌋,* and their queens your nurses. They shall bow down, _⌊faces_⌋* to the ground, to you, and they will lick up the dust of your feet. Then* you will know that I am Yahweh; those who await me shall not be ashamed.

⁵¹ Then David ran and stood over the Philistine and took his sword and drew it from its sheath and killed him and cut off his head with it. When the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled.

³² When he lifted up his face to the window, he asked, "Who is with me?" Two or three eunuchs looked down to him.

¹⁰ On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was merry with wine, he said to Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, Abagtha, Zethar, and Carcas, seven of the eunuchs attending King Ahasuerus,

²¹ In those days Mordecai was sitting at the gate of the king. Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king's eunuchs from the keepers of the threshold, became angry and they conspired _⌊to assassinate_⌋* King Ahasuerus. ²² And the matter became known to Mordecai and he told it to Queen Esther, and Esther told it to the king in the name of Mordecai. ²³ And the matter was investigated and found to be so; and the two of them were hanged on the gallows, and it was written in the scroll of the events of the days before the presence of the king.

¹⁴ And Zeresh his wife and all of his friends said to him, "Let them make a gallows fifty cubits* high, and in the morning tell the king, "Let them hang Mordecai on it; then go with the king to the banquet happily." The advice pleased Haman, so he had the gallows made.

² And it was found written how Mordecai had reported concerning Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king's eunuchs from the keepers of the threshold who had conspired _⌊to assassinate_⌋* King Ahasuerus.

¹⁴ As they were still speaking with him the king's eunuchs arrived and hurried to bring Haman to the banquet that Esther had prepared.

²⁵ But when it came* _⌊to the attention of_⌋* the king, he _⌊gave orders in writing_⌋* that his evil plot that he had devised against the Jews should return on his head, and they hung him and his sons on the gallows.

²⁰ Terrors overtake him like the water; a storm wind carries him off in the night. ²¹ The east wind lifts him up, and he is gone, and it sweeps him away from his place. ²² And it hurls at him, and it has no compassion; he will quickly flee from its power. ²³ It claps its hands over him, and it hisses at him from its place.

¹⁵ He makes a pit and digs it out, then falls in the trap he has made. ¹⁶ His trouble comes back on his head, and his violence comes down on his skull.

¹⁵ The nations have fallen in the pit that they made; their foot is caught in the net that they hid. ¹⁶ Yahweh has made himself known; he has executed judgment. The wicked is snared by the work of his hands. Higgaion* Selah

⁸ Let _⌊unforeseen ruin_⌋* come on him, and his net that he hid, let it catch him. Let him fall into it in ruin.

³⁵ I have seen the wicked acting violently and spreading himself out like a luxuriant native tree. ³⁶ Then he passed on* and behold, he was not. And I sought him, but he could not be found.

¹⁹ How they become a desolation in a moment! They come to a complete end by terrors.

¹⁰ Let the wicked fall into their* nets, while I escape altogether.

⁵ The righteousness of the blameless will keep his ways straight, but the wicked will fall by his wickedness. ⁶ The righteousness of the upright will save them, but by a scheme the treacherous will be taken captive.

⁷ All of the administrators of the kingdom, and the prefects, the satraps, the counselors and the governors took counsel and have agreed to establish an edict of the king and to enforce a decree that _⌊whoever_⌋* will seek a prayer from any god or human except from you for up to thirty days will be thrown into _⌊the lion pit_⌋.*

²⁴ The king then commanded, and these men were brought _⌊who had accused Daniel_⌋,* and they threw them and their children and their wives into _⌊the lion pit_⌋,* and they had not reached the floor of the pit _⌊before_⌋* the lions had overpowered them and they had crushed all of their bones.

⁷ Samson said to them, "If you want to behave like this, I swear I will not rest unless I have taken revenge on you."

¹ After these things, when the anger of King Ahasuerus subsided, he remembered Vashti and what she had done and what had been decreed against her.

¹⁶ His trouble comes back on his head, and his violence comes down on his skull.

¹³ And my anger will come to an end, and I will place my rage on them, and I will relent, and they will know that I, Yahweh, have spoken in my passion _⌊when I fully vent my rage against them_⌋.*

⁸ And he cried out to me and said to me, "See those going out to the north country have set my spirit at rest in the north country."
