¹⁴ but the seventh day is a Sabbath unto Yahweh your God; you shall not do any work, or your son, or your daughter, or your slave, or your slave woman, or your ox, or your donkey, or any of your domestic animals, or your resident alien who is in your _⌊towns_⌋,* so that your slave and your slave woman may rest as you rest.

² And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done.

²⁹ See, because Yahweh has given to you the Sabbath, therefore he is giving to you on the sixth day bread for two days. Stay, _⌊each in his location_⌋;* let no one go from his place on the seventh day." ³⁰ And the people rested on the seventh day.

¹² " 'Six days you will do your work, but on the seventh day you will stop so that your ox and your donkey will rest and the son of your slave woman and the alien will be refreshed.

⁴⁴ " 'As for* your* slave and your* slave woman who are* yours,* from the nations that are all around you,* from them you* may buy a slave or* a slave woman. ⁴⁵ And you* may buy also from the children* of the temporary residents who are dwelling with you as aliens and from their clan who are with you, who have children in your land; indeed,* they may be as property for you. ⁴⁶ And you* may pass them on as an inheritance to your* sons* after you* to take possession of as property _⌊for all time_⌋*—you* may let them work. But* as for your* countrymen,* the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* you* shall not rule with ruthlessness over _⌊one another_⌋.*

⁵ Now our flesh is like the flesh of our brothers, our sons are like their sons. Look, we are subduing our sons and our daughters to be slaves, and there are some from our daughters being molested. _⌊We are powerless_⌋,* and our fields and vineyards belong to others."

¹⁵ In those days I saw in Judah people treading the wine press on the Sabbath, bringing in heaps of grain and loading them on donkeys along with wine, grapes and figs, and every kind of burden and bringing it all to Jerusalem on the day of the Sabbath. And I warned them at that time against selling food.

²¹ But I warned them and said to them, "Why are you spending the night opposite the wall? If you do it again, I will lay hands against you." From that time on they did not come on the Sabbath.

⁴ For he has spoken somewhere about the seventh day in this way: "And God rested on the seventh day from all his works,"*
