¹⁸ And he said, Wherefore doth my lord thus pursue after his servant? for what have I done? or what evil is in mine hand?

²⁹ And David said, What have I now done? Is there not a cause?

⁹ And David said to Saul, Wherefore hearest thou men's words, saying, Behold, David seeketh thy hurt?

¹¹ Moreover, my father, see, yea, see the skirt of thy robe in my hand: for in that I cut off the skirt of thy robe, and killed thee not, know thou and see that there is neither evil nor transgression in mine hand, and I have not sinned against thee; yet thou huntest my soul to take it. ¹² The LORD judge between me and thee, and the LORD avenge me of thee: but mine hand shall not be upon thee. ¹³ As saith the proverb of the ancients, Wickedness proceedeth from the wicked: but mine hand shall not be upon thee. ¹⁴ After whom is the king of Israel come out? after whom dost thou pursue? after a dead dog, after a flea.

³ O LORD my God, If I have done this; if there be iniquity in my hands; ⁴ If I have rewarded evil unto him that was at peace with me; (yea, I have delivered him that without cause is mine enemy:) ⁵ Let the enemy persecute my soul, and take it; yea, let him tread down my life upon the earth, and lay mine honour in the dust. Selah.

⁷ For without cause have they hid for me their net in a pit, which without cause they have digged for my soul.

⁴ They that hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of mine head: they that would destroy me, being mine enemies wrongfully, are mighty: then I restored that which I took not away.

⁴⁶ Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?

³² Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me?

²³ Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil: but if well, why smitest thou me?
